Discoverer Viewer vs Plus

Hi,
What is the difference between Discoverer Viewer and Plus?
I'm using Oracle Discoverer Plus 9.0.2.
Thanks,

Viewer is for viewing and analyzing reports only. You cannot add or remove fields.
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/discoverer/files/viewlets/10121_viewer.html
Plus is for creating reports (you can view and analyze too, but the main purpose is for creating reports). http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/discoverer/files/viewlets/1012_plus_relational_create_workbook.html
The viewlets I listed above are for 10.1.2, but they definitely show the difference between plus and viewer.
Hi,
What is the difference between Discoverer Viewer and
Plus?
I'm using Oracle Discoverer Plus 9.0.2.
Thanks,

  • Discoverer Viewer/Plus 10g after a migration from Discoverer 4i

    Hi, I upgrated Discoverer4i to Discoverer 10g with Ebusiness Suite 11i ( 11.5.9) without installin AS 10g
    I followed the note: http://oracle-magic.blogspot.com/2006/11/upgrading-discoverer-4i-to-10g-on-apps.html
If I use Discoverer Administrator and Desktop it works perfectly (I connect as an Oracle Application User)
Now, I want to see my reports with Discoverer Viewer/Plus but I don't understand how to do it (always connecting with an Oracle Application user).
My previous URL (with Discoverer4i) was: http://gnvdev.ote.gr:8025/discoverer4i/viewer
Now, after the Discoverer 10g installation I can connect to the "Welcome to Oracle Business Intelligence 10g (10.1.2)" page with the following URL:http://gnvdev.ote.gr:7779/
I didn't understand how Ebusiness Suite 11i ( 11.5.9) can communicate with Discoverer 10g in order to see reports from the web
Can anyone help to understand where and how I should modify anything in order to see my reports with Discoverer Viewer or Plus
    Thank you
    Alex

If you have followed all the steps in "Note: 313418.1 - Using Discoverer 10.1.2 with Oracle E-Business Suite 11i" then you should be able to access Discoverer Plus/Viewer through the following links:
    Discoverer Plus:
    http://gnvdev.ote.gr:7779//discoverer/plus
    Discoverer Viewer:
    http://gnvdev.ote.gr:7779//discoverer/viewer
The above links will prompt for some input, all what you need to provide is:
    - Applications Username
    - Applications Password
    - Database (SID)

  • Online response time in discoverer viewer?

    Dear sir,
    Can anyone help me,
In discoverer view and plus, how to maximise the response time for the viewer, while n-number of visitors requesting the same report.
How to analyse that? what settings are there?
Plz help me , its urgent for my project?
    Regards
    chandrakumar

In case this helps anyone else - this is the reply I got when I asked SAP this question:
the total user response time is response time + frontend network time.
GUI time is already included in the response time (it is the roll in andwait time from the application server's point of view).
The 'FE (Frontend) net time' is the time consumed in the network for thefirst transfer of data from the frontend to the application server andthe last transfer of data from the application server to the frontend
    (during one dialog step).

  • Ora 03001 unimplemented feature in Discoverer viewer

    Hi ,
I created a report in Desktop and all reports are run using discoverer viewer.
User are able to run detail worksheets but not summary sheets for these details reports in discoverer viewer or plus.
If I login as same user I can run in desktop.
    Any help is highly appricated.

    Hi All,
I opened SR and oracle suggested these steps and it worked.
    1.) Backup the pref.txt file in the $ORACLE_HOME/discoverer/util/ directory ;
2.) Stop the Discoverer and Oc4j instance (you can use "opmnctl stopall" command)
3.) Edit the parameters in the pref.txt to be :
    EnhancedAggregationStrategy= 0
    UseNoRewriteHint=0
    UseOptimizerHints = 1
    then save the file.
4.) Once the file is successfully edited, run the applypreferences.sh file in the same directory to get the new preferences into ef
    fect.
5.) Start Discoverer and Oc4j instance (you can use "opmnctl startall" command).
    It works.

  • Discoverer Viewer/Plus does not work with Custom EUL owned by APPS user

I am facing a unique issue with one of my customers. They have a custom EUL named XX_EUL_US and this does not allow connecting through discoverer viewer or discoverer plus.
I have worked with custom EULS before at other customers and this was never the case. I am being told that this issue is happening as the EUL owner is APPS instead of some other user. Is this the case? Can discoverer viewer not be used with EULs owned by apps user?
Please not that the Default EUL in ICX profiles is set to this EUL and no other EUL profiles are set.
    Appreciate any thoughts on this.

    Hi,
I am not sure what you mean when you say you have a "custom EUL named XX_EUL_US". The EUL table should be created in a schema named XX_EUL_US. This will then be the EUL owner. You will then need to connect to Discoverer Administrator as the EUL owner and grant privileges to Apps users and/or responsibilities.
The user should then be able to connect to Discoverer Plus/View using their apps username, responsibility and password.
To be able to connect directly from an apps menu you need to have the ICX parameters set correctly. The ICX: Discoverer Default End User Layer Schema Prefix should be set to XX_EUL (without the _US). The ICX: Discoverer End User Layer Language Override should be set to US or not set at all.

  • Workbook works fine in discoverer plus but shows error in discoverer viewer

    Hi,
I have some issues with the parameter of a report.
    one of the parameters is
    mgr_id (eg: 1,2,3) -- from database table.
manager names are not available in the database but they are known to users like
    1 - david
    2 - alan chris
    3 - peter
    so the requirement is
    (i) the input parameter wud be entered as 1 or 2 or 3 or null ( or in multiple combination or all).
But the report shud have parameters in the header of the report.
for eg: if the input parameter is mgr_id = '1' then the report shud have manager name: 'david' in the header.
if the input is mgr_id = '1',' 2', '3' then on the report header, it shud display as manager name: 'david','alan chris','peter'
(ii) the default value of mgr_id shud be 'ALL'. if the user enters mgr_id as 'ALL' then it shud take all the values of mgr_id and pull all the values of mgr_id (like 1,2,3)
and the report header shud display as department name: 'ALL'
i have developed a custom query where i used,
    select dept_id, decode(mgr.mgr_id,'1','david','2','alan chris','3','peter') as mgr_name, ..... etc.
    in discoverer admin,
I have created LOVs (item classes) for mgr_name.
after that going to properties of mgr_name, i have selected mgr_id as indexed item.
and in the report i have created parameter dept based on mgr_name and selected the option -- allow to select both indexes and values.
and in the default value i mentioned 'ALL'.
after that i changed the condition as
    ((mgr_name = :manager name) OR (mgr_name LIKE DECODE(:manager name,'ALL','%')))
and in the header, i used &department name --- then it displays correctly.
    but the problem is ---
the report works fine in plus. the problem is only when parameter value is 'ALL'
when i run the report from discoverer viewer for the very first time (after logging in), the report works fine with correct data.
but when i run the same report second time with parameter value 'ALL', it gives an error ---
Invalid value "''" for parameter "department name"
i dont understand, why it works for first time and doesn't afterwards. If i logout and login again, it works fine in viewer.
am i doing anything wrong in conditions or declaring the parameters?
I came to know that, the very first time, when we enter 'ALL' it is taking '%' but when we run for the second time, it is taking NULL. since NULL isn't there in mgr_id or mgr_name, it is throwing that error.
How do i fix this error?
    Thanks

    Hi Puppethead,
I have tried with your suggestions.
the following condition -- did not work
    ( (mgr_name = :manager name)
OR (mgr_name LIKE DECODE(:manager name, 'ALL', '%', NULL)))
but for the other condition ---
    ( (mgr_name = :manager name)
OR (mgr_name LIKE DECODE(nvl(:manager name, 'ALL'), 'ALL', '%', NULL)))
is wrong because, :manager name cud be null, when it is null, it takes 'ALL' i.e. '%' which shud not be the case.
if the user enters null, it has to display records with null only but with the above condition it takes '%'
The main issue which i dont understand is, the report works fine for the first time. for the second time, the report takes null values . why is it taking null values for the second time.
    Thanks

  • Tweaking defaults of Discoverer 10g (Viewer and Plus) login page

Using information gleaned from the Metalink notes referenced below, we've had our admins successfully configure our default Discoverer 10g login pages (for Viewer and Plus) with the following tweaks:
    1) Remove the "typo-prone" entry box for RESPONSIBILITY (on an Apps-Mode EUL) in favor of the subsequent drop-down LOV option to select available responsibilities
    2) Re-order CONNECT TO options to make the more frequently used APPS-MODE option first in the drop-down list, followed by the STANDARD (relational) and finally, OLAP (to be hopefully implemented at some future date)
    3) Re-label CONNECT TO options with terminology more understandable to our end-users in order to better understand choices
We would like, if possible, to further enhance the relative efficiency of the user login experience by making the APPS-MODE option the default selection upon initial entry to the page (the above-indicated re-ordering of the entries didn't appear to affect Oracle's continued default selection of the STANDARD option).
If anyone has any suggestions / tips to accomplish this, we would greatly appreciate your feedback. I should also say, that we don't possess a lot of Java Development skills and therefore would appreciate any directions provided in a "cookbook/recipe" manner similar to those provided in the Metalink documents we were able to utilize for the changes made thus far.
    Thanks in advance.

342255.1-How To Remove the "End User Layer" option Customize Discoverer 10g (10.1.2) Connection Page

    Hi
I would have to suspect that the answer to the question of restricting responsibilities might well be yes.
    Here's one idea:
Because responsibilities come from FND_RESPONSBILITIES, can you write a piece of SQL that positively identifies the responsibilities that are used inside Discoverer? If you can do that, I'm wondering whether a Discoverer logon trigger might be able to set a VPD policy to only allow those responsibilities.
I don't have any time to try it otherwise I would. Is there anyone who can pick this up and run with it to see what can be made to happen?
    Best wishes

  • Discoverer Viewer (& Plus) not opening ...?

    Hi,
Not sure if I should post here, or with application server team...?
After I had changed the Infra & MidTier to use new ports, Discoverer Viewer is no longer avaialable? The Virtual host for the server is still available, but the Viewer, or Plus cannot open anymore.
To recover, I had to reload a backup...
Does anyone have any thoughts as to why this could happen..?
    Regards
    Steven

    Hi Micheal,
I changed the ports as some Goverment department does not allow SSL Port 4443. They require the use of secondary SSL port 563...? I'm not sure about this though, but I have to conform. (Do you have any comments on this?)
I changed the ports by first changing the port in INFRA. (By the way, we're running Infra & MidTier on the same physical machine...)
    1. Changes to http.conf
    <...
    Port 563
    Listen 7777
    ServerName <virtualName.acme.com>
    ....>
    2. SSL.conf

    4. C:\Oracle\InfraAS\sso\bin\ssocfg.bat https <virtualName.acme.com> 563
    ....> Vitual host works,
For the MitTier I did the same...
    1. C:\Oracle\MidTier\jdk\bin\java -jar C:\Oracle\MidTier\sso\lib\ossoreg.jar -oracle_home_path C:\Oracle\MidTier -site_name <virtualName.acme.com>:443 -config_mod_osso TRUE -mod_osso_url https://<virtualName.acme.com> -u system

    3. C:\Oracle\MidTier\portal\conf\ptlconfig.bat -dad portal -sso -host <virtualName.acme.com> -port 443 -ssl
And now the virtual host works...Portal works, Forms works, but Disco does not ...?
I really appreciate your assistance ...

  • Discoverer viewer or discoverer plus?

I built an EUL with discoverer desktop and administrator and now I want to post some result in a web page,is discoverer viewer or
discoverer plus more helpful in this case?
    thank you

    Hi
Discoverer Plus is a report writer tool, whereas Discoverer Viewer is just what it says - it allows a user to run and view results.
Discoverer Plus is very much akin to Discoverer Desktop except it is much more powerful with a lot more features. A few years ago I presented a paper at ODTUG explaining all of the features of Discoverer 10g. That paper won best paper in the show and is available as a download free from my website here: http://ascbi.com/downloads/downloads.htm
If you scroll down to the section called Armstrong-Smith Presentations, the one you want is the 7th one down called DRAKEFIRSTLOOK. If are unsure as to the benefits of using Discoverer Plus versue Viewer that paper will help.
As an FYI, Discoverer Plus requires a local of Java and runs as a thick applet, whereas Viewer is pure HTML thin client and does not need Java. Plus is intended for report writers and power users, whereas Viewer is intended for users who only need to run an existing report.
May I also point you in the direction of my Oracle Discoverer 10g Handbook? You can find that on amazon and has more than 1000 pages of information.
    I hope this helps
    Best wishes

  • Error trying to open Discoverer Viewer/Plus

    HI,
The following error occurred: "OracleBI Discoverer has not been started or has been stopped. Discoverer was stopped by your Administrator."
Has anyone had the same problem? We are currently on version 10.1.2.54.25 of Discoverer and 10.1.2.2 of AS (Win2000 server). I did find a document (Bug.4457706) on MetaLink for an earlier version and I verified that start = true in the configuration.xml file. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I also noticed that a java.exe process was consuming 100% of the CPU on the server during the same time. Tho, it may be totally unrelated to the Discoverer problem. I have examined most of the log files and can not find anything of relevance yet.
I checked opmnctl status at the time of the problem and everything was up.
    Thanks

  • Discoverer viewer -- export to pdf doesn't retain page settings.

    Hi,
The report output in discoverer viewer is much different from that of plus. I am concerned abt the report headers. In discoverer plus, the headers are left, center and right aligned.
But in viewer, every thing is aligned center. How can I get the report o/p (same as that of plus) in viewer??
    Thanks

    Hi there
did you fix it in Viewer?
I am also getting the same issue, I have made my page setting in Discoverer Plus , when I go use Discoverer Viewer use the Printable page to get the PDF file, the layout does not shows the same page settings what I did in Discoverer Plus.
    Thanks
