Have you by any chance set it up to use DHCP? If so then you might want to change that to a static entry.

  • Jumpstart of Solaris 10 halts when "Discovering additional network..."

Installing Solaris 10 using jumpstart from Solaris 9 server, using JASS 4.2 (Solaris Security Toolkit 4.2.0)
However, the install just hangs after the following printout:
    Discovering additional network configuration...
I tried snoop on the install server, but that does not catch any packets after the stalling.
The machines are connected via a router, but broadcast should be transmitted and installing Solaris 9 was OK.
Client is added in ethers, using NIS.

The IP subnets are not technically the same (10.1/16 and 10.2/16), but they are handled by the same router.
Normal operation and Solaris9 jumpstart is fine. I got the same problem when I tried jumpstart in the same subnet as the jumpstart server.
The Solaris10 installer is doing something unexpected when detecting setting. Something like checking that address with DHCP is the same as the one gotten initially ( I do not believe this is the problem, this is just in the area where I believe that there is problems).
    Any specific hints?

  • Discovering additional network configurations

Can someone help me. While trying to install solaris 10 in my ultra 80. I keep getting a hangup while discovering additional network configurations. How can I disable this so it doesnt happen anymore.

boot cdrom -vs is supposed to take you to a functional environment,
into single-user mode, and do so in a verbose fashion.
That is exactly what the command does. Thus it's functioning properly.
To start your OS installation, just boot to the cdrom.
    OK boot cdrom <enter>
If you want it to do so in a verbose fashion, use the -v command switch.
... just do not use the letter "s" in the command and it will start the install.
During this entire discussion, you never mentioned whether you even tried
to probe the SCSI bus to see whether the drives were recognized by OBP.
If OBP doesn't see them, then your system will fail back to trying to discover
a boot device on the network ( along any network pathway that could possibly exist ).

  • Why does 10.8 take so long to discover Wifi networks?

I've noticed recently that it takes a very long time for my MacBook Pro 6,2 OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2 to discover WiFi networks.
I open the laptop up, or wake it up from sleep, and the wifi takes 30 secs to more than 1 minutes to find any WiFi networks. It doesn't maintain the connection to the network it was connected to before the last time it went to sleep.
The WiFi icon in the upper left has no bars, all greyed out, nothing moving. When I click on it, the context menu that drops down just says "no network selected".
Interestingly, if I turn WiFi off, wait a few seconds, then turn it on again, it works fine, connects very quickly.
Is anyone else having these problems? I would very much like to get this resolved. I primarily use my computer for webbrowsing, so when I open it and have to sit there for a minute before any networks are found, then I have to go in and select my network, it becomes very frustrating.
    Thanks

  • Can i stop airport from searching for additional networks after connecting to a network

Airport keeps searching for additional networks after connecting to my wireless router.  Can I stop this?  does this effect system performance?

No, it doesn't affect performance. And, it only occurs prior to connection to the desired network or when you click on the menubar icon for Airport.

  • Wifi was working, and now does not discover any networks

I had wifi working, and now it does recognize any of the 6 networks that everything else discovers, any sugestions?
I read all related posts, did the software update to latest version, restarted several times, and did wifi reset. Actually my statmenet above is not entirely true. It does discover the network and connects when I place the device on top of a router, but moving to 50cm away from it and the connection disconnects and there are no networks discovered. I have tried it with 2 different routers, both of them are working well with my blackberry and laptop - and this was also working with the ipad before.

Try a reset. Press & hold the Power and Home buttons together for 10+ seconds, ignoring the red power-off slider, until you see the Apple logo.
If this does not work, then restore the iPad to its factory settings and start again.

  • Time machine as additional network

    hi there
i already have a wireless network at home and would like to use the time machine for the back-ups, but also as additional internet connection.
can i connect the time machine via wireless to my existing network or does the time machine need the cable ethernet connection to the internet?
    thanks a lot
    best regards

But I'd like to do wireless backups. Is there a way to be on the internet through wifi, and have TC automatically backup our macs?
Is it possible for a TC to join the wifi network and re-broadcast it out somehow?
You can configure your TC to "join" the wireless network and backups will occur over wireless. The TC cannot re-broadcast a signal, it only receives a signal when it is configured to "join" a wireless network.
Here's the downside. When a computer backs up, the wireless signal has to go back to the main wireless router and then travel back again to the Time Capsule...two hops, so things are going to be on the slow side for backups. But, it can be done.
Another option would be to have the TC "create" a wireless network and backups would occur over your "private" wireless network. This would give you faster backups, but the downside is that you would have to log off your "normal" wireless connection and log on to your "private" wireless whenever you wanted to do a backup.

  • How to set up Time Capsule as an additional network

I have the 1 TB Time Capsule and I set it up as "creating a wireless network". It is connected via Ethernet to my linksys router. How do I set it up so that I have two wi-fi networks running? Options are a) join a wireless network b) connect to a network using Ethernet to extend the network or create a second network.

When you say faster speed, are you taking about using the 802.11n 5GHz protocols?
If that is the case, then you arrange for the TimeCapsule to join the existing network, and configure it to "Bridge" the ethernet to WiFi.
My assumption is that the other WiFi is 802.11g, so leave that one alone.
Back on the TimeCapsule, you configure it so it using 5GHz frequences ONLY.
You configure TC so it has its own SSID (network name).
Now Macs (or other systems) that are 802.11n WiFi capable can connect to the TC network name (SSID), and your older 802.11g devices can use the other WiFi base station.
If the TimeCapsule is a dual radio system, then you can configure the 2.4GHz radio so that it uses the same SSID and password as your existing WiFi base station, only have it use a different channel (you do not what the original and the TC 802.11g radio fighting over the same channel. Channels 1, 6, and 11 are best, but if you have conflicts with neighbors, try for something that doesn't conflict and is 5 or more channels away from your other 802.11g base station.

  • Hello, since I put mountain lion on my macbook pro computer my wi fi has to be "reprogrammed" almost every time I use safari. That is, I have to go to system preferences and reselect the location, etc. now I see an additional network on my list, "wifi"

can someone please advise me how to correct this recurring problem and also how to remove this second network from my list of available networks. thank you

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work.

If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode.  Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the grey Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal.

  • Has anyone discovered a network error when trying to post or contribute to discussion?

I have created many courses. The latest one however, I find that I can no longer take part in discussions in any way. I am the owner of the course and other teachers contributing have been able to work normally. I get a network error. I can still add posts as normal.

I assume since you are posting in the iTunes U for iOS forum that you are having issues with the IOS version of the app. What is the exact error message?
Can you participate in a course's discussion from iTunes U's Course Manager (https://itunesu.itunes.apple.com/coursemanager/)?

  • XPS 8700 - need additional network card for VMware Workstation

    Hello -
I'm wanting to add either a dual or quad network card to my XPS 8700 so I can provide physical interfaces for some VMware Workstaion.  Is there a specific band or model that is compatible..?
I've tried installing a spare Intel E1G42ET (dual port) card I had laying around, but the OS never saw it even with the drivers from Intel's website loaded up.
    Any suggestions..?  Thanks,

No - but it's just another card to the BIOS. Also, there's already a Wireless NIC and an Ethernet NIC in there.  I appreciate the suggestion - I can test it,. but suspect the issue will remain the same.
    Thanks,

  • Open additional network ports while running FileVault

I'm trying to run web based applications using non-standard network ports on my MacPro and having issues accessing the services locally from the laptop it's self.
I've enabled the builtin FileVault to encrypt the SSD to protect the laptop along with enabling the firewall, after which I've experienced the problem. Disabling the firewall doesn't allow access to the services however disabling the FileVault allows services on network ports to be accessible again.
This leads me to believe FileVault isn't just 'Disk Encryption' as I initially thought, but includes elements of firewall-ing non Apple approved applications/ports. There seems to be very little information about this anywhere on the web, unless I'm looking in the wrong place.
If this is the case, are there any commands that will allow me to 'register' an application or port with Mavericks as being allowed?

Thanks Linc that's what I needed confirmation of, I'll keep digging and comment back once I've solved.

  • 4S iPhone will not discover WiFi network

My phone will not discover a WiFi network

Wow, same problem here after I upgraded to iOS6. My bluetooth and wifi both stopped working completely.  I called tech support who told me i wasn't covered and acted like they had never heard of this happening and tried to sell me a $100 dollar warranty to get it fixed.  I found these discussion forums and saw how many people were having the same problem and called tech support back to tell them I didn't appreciate the guy acting like he had never heard of this.
Turns out, I am completely covered under Apple care and she set me up with an appointment to get a new phone tomorrow, no charge.  Now I see all these people who got replacements and are still having the same problem.  Just when I thought I had everything fixed.  Guess I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed.
