Discovering nodes using OEM

Hi.
Am using oracle 9i R2 enteprise manager on windows and would like to adminster other databases in my network. When connected to the OEM standard alone console, there is no pb. when when connected to the management server, when I want to discover a node, it fails with this error. "Discovert Failed:VNI-4044: Cannot contact agent. Node may be down or the network may be down or slow."
When discovering the node, I use the machine name or ip (oracle 9i R2 is installed and its running under solaris) and on the remote site, the agent is running!! Is there anything to be done so that the node can be discovered automaticaly as when discovered manaually, can't scheduled for jobs, backups and all the rest.
Any help will be appreacited.
Mirdassou

Have you looked the vni-4044 error up on metalink? There is a step by step trouble shoot guide for this error. The standalone connections are totally different to the node discovery process so you cannot compare them.
Have a look on metalink get that document, make sure your agent is ok, and if you can't tnsping the ports (1848 & 1854 from oms server to agent server, 7772 from agent server to oms server) then look at what firewalls you have.

Between the space of 2 days, OEM has chosen to not

    Hi
I am not aware whether you can force manual discovery without
going through Discover Nodes process. You can, however, stop the
agent and do discovery. This might (I hope) expedite the
discovery process and lead you to manual discovery quickly.
BTW with a manual discovery you lose major functionality of OEM

As part of the Service Monitoring for our OFM-OUCM environment, we have implemented OEM 11g R1. Our Dev/Test/UAT/Prod environment is comprised of SOA 10.1.3.5, WCI 10.3, UCM 10.1.3.5, multiple DB instances 10.2.0.3/10.2.0.4, IDM 10.1.4.0.1. We are able to monitor SOA 10.1.3.5, IDM 10.1.4.0.1 & the databases. But the 11g Agent wasnt able to discover the targets for WCI 10.3.0 & UCM 10.1.3.5. Is there a way to monitor UCM 10gR3 & WCI 10.3 using OEM 11g R1 or do we need to downgrade the OEM version.
We are able to see the WCI Products in the Hosts -> Configuration tab in OEM. But we are not able to monitor these as targets.

  • VTO-4400 No database has been discovered. please use the enterprise managem

    Hi,
I am new to Oracle Enterprise Manager. I just installed Oracle8i on Windows 2000 Server. I am connecting to OEM as sysman. When i try to open database applications (e.g. Tools - Database Applications - DBA Studio) from Oracle Enterprise Manager, it gives error:
VTO-4400 No database has been discovered. please use the enterprise management console to discover atleast one database before starting the application.
Can anybody tell me how to connect to the database?
    Thanks,

Having said all that, a colleague has suggested we just limit the amount of RAM available for the EX2010 DB cache
Then it won't have to start releasing RAM when the backup runs, and won't throw SCOM alerts

  • Cancelling job using OEM

1)If a OWB process is run as a job using OEM and if it is interrupted or aborted due to database shutdown or I try to remove job using OEM, I run into a problem.
When the database was disconnected, the job that was running (and associated with a OWB process package) leaves something like a lock on the package. I am not able to recompile that package.
    2) When I removed a job using OEM, it shows the status as deleting, but that never completes.
How do I identify and remove the locks if any and clean it up?
    Thanks,
    Tapas

    Tapas,
Your questions are really about OEM/Intelligent Agent rather than OWB. The OEM forum is here Enterprise Manager
Regarding #1, from OEM doc: "If the Agent goes down for any period of time while the job is running, the Agent will return a job status message "Agent was down." This does not affect job operation, but merely indicates that the repeating job did not run as scheduled during the period the Agent/node was down." Could this be your case?
Regarding #2, I found this thread "Pending Deletion (job)" on OEM Forum, please see if it helps you Pending Deletion (job)

  • Rediscover using OEM in Oracle 10.2.0.4

    Hi,
Can somebody post detailed steps as to how to rediscover using OEM. (I have performed at the session level)
My system is Oracle 10.2.0.4 RAC on RHEL.
Example: Steps to rediscover an instance (or) agent (or) listener using OEM.
To put it in simple terms...mys listener is showing DOWN status in OEM, but is actually UP when I go in and check at the session level.
I do not want to restart the agent at the sesion level which I have already done. Kindly help.
Edited by: Redstorm on Feb 24, 2009 7:09 PM

Do you have a lot of jobs scheduled via OEM ? (you can save the definitions in the job library and re-submit them later if not. You may also have to reset the backup preferences etc.)
This seems strange. Is there an error message with the listener status (click on the Down targets from the homepage.)
Also can you provide the output from the agent status.
    cheers,

  • Trying to register 10.2.0.3 db in Rec Catalog using OEM, getting errors

    Hi all,
I didn't know whether to post this here in the RMAN forum or in the OEM Grid Control forum, but the issue is more related to RMAN, so I'll post it here, and hope someone can help me out!
I have a new 10.2.0.3 database that I am getting configured to manage using OEM Grid Control. Through the OEM interface, I am trying to register this database with my recovery catalog - the recovery catalog is version 10.02.00.02. When I try to register this new db with the recovery catalog, I am getting this lengthy collection of errors:
Recovery Manager: Release 10.2.0.3.0 - Production on Wed Jan 30 14:58:36 2008 Copyright (c) 1982, 2005, Oracle. All rights reserved. It sounds like it has something to do with the fact that my recovery catalog database is not at a current version?? In the OEM tool, I went to the page that lists the Recovery Catalog, and tried hitting the Update button, and it succeeded, but the Recovery Catalog version did not change, it is still at 10.02.00.02.
Can anyone give me some assistance on this one?
    Thanks!

In my installation , it is usually AQZZ"usergroup"========QUERYNAME======
You could see if you have a user group 'MM' or '10MM' in SQ03 and set the user group if available.. then in SQ01, see if you have a query called Z6
Also try out this function module RSAQ_DECODE_REPORT_NAME to see if it would give you the user group and query name...

Any other ideas what might be causing this problem?
    Thanks and take care,
    Shayne

From what I've read in this forum and in others is
that the problem is often related to the owner/group
permissions associated with the bin/nmo and bin/nmb
files. However I've tried the posted solutions by
changing the owner/permissions as suggested, but this
does not help. I get the same error regardless if the
files are owned by oracle or by root.
I am not sure which "posted solutions" you had, but this is related to not running root.sh which must be run against the Agent Home.
    1. Stop the Agent (emctl stop agent) while connected to the OS as Oracle user (normally oracle) that installed Grid Control
    2. Connect to the OS as root and run root.sh from Agent ORACLE_HOME (if you do not have root access, your System Admin can do it)
    3. Start the Agent (emctl start agent) while connected to the OS as Oracle user

  • How to use OEM grid control to find any database not in archivelog mode?

    Hello,
currently we have 130 databases, say, if I want to pick out any database currently NOT in archivelog mode, is there a quick way to find out ?
    by using OEM grid control
    or
    some trick similar,
but really don't need to check each database manually.
    thank you very much!

This query works in 12c - please run as SYSMAN.
It is based on undocumented assumptions though +( AND key_value = 'NOARCHIVELOG')+.
      SELECT *
      FROM SYSMAN.MGMT$GROUP_DERIVED_MEMBERSHIPS O ,
        SYSMAN.MGMT$TARGET T ,
        sysman.MGMT$AVAILABILITY_CURRENT st
      WHERE
      o.member_target_type     IN ('oracle_database', 'rac_database')
      AND ( t.target_type           ='rac_database'
      OR (t.target_type             ='oracle_database'
      AND t.type_qualifier3        != 'RACINST'))
      AND o. member_target_guid     = t.target_guid
      AND t.target_guid             = st.target_guid
      AND st.availability_status    = 'Target Up'
      AND ( EXISTS
        (SELECT *
        FROM sysman.mgmt$metric_current i
        WHERE I.TARGET_GUID = O.MEMBER_TARGET_GUID
        AND metric_name     = 'archFull'
        AND Metric_Column   = 'archTotal'
        AND metric_label    = 'Archive Area'
AND column_label    = 'Total Archive Area (KB)'
        AND key_value       = 'NOARCHIVELOG'
));Another way to achieve the goal is to push extended metrics (SELECT LOG_MODE FROM V$DATABASE) on each DB, and monitor the values they return to the repository.
