Discrepancies in Online Status in Mail

I’m having problems sending emails, similar to those reported here and elsewhere in these discussions. I have some slightly different observations that might shed some light.
1. I have no trouble receiving emails.
2. I do have trouble sending emails, but only with 2 of my five email accounts. All five accounts are with the same web host; bluehost, and all five are with the same domain name.
3. It seems that over the past month I have had consistent trouble with ONLY two of the accounts and as of yesterday, one of those two is now working, trouble free, but I don't know what I might have changed. So, I’m down to one problem account. (Lucky me!)
4. In my efforts to diagnose and correct this, I did notice one curious thing that I haven’t seen stated on this thread. Here’s a description:
If (while I’m in the Mail program) I go to the Mailbox Menu and check the Online Status of all 5 accounts, it appears that they are all “online.” It doesn’t actually SAY that my accounts are online but, rather, the only available option is to take each account “Offline.”
So, Mailbox menu > Online Status >
The choices shown are:
Take “Account 1” Offline
Take “Account 2” Offline
Take “Account 3” Offline
Take “Account 4” Offline
Take “Account 5” Offline
That seems to be a backward way of say that these accounts are all online.
Now, however, if I go to the “Preferences . . .” in Mail and select “Accounts” > “Account Information” > Outgoing Mail Sever (SMTP) there is a drop-down menu that show all 5 of my accounts BUT after one of the accounts I see “Offline” in parentheses:
So, the third one of my 5 accounts show as . . .
Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): box555.bluehost.com:[email protected] (Offline)
Of course, I’m using bogus place holders here for the Box###, AccountName and DomainName to hide the actual account information, but I hope this is clear enough.
Bottom line: in Mail’s Mailbox menu it indicates that this account is Online; in preferences in indicates it is Offline.
Can anyone see what might be wrong here? I’ve been really, REALLY careful in setting up my accounts and rechecking everything, and I can’t find any obvious errors that I’ve made.
I suspect this is a bug in the Apple Mail program, but I have not had this problem prior to OS X 10.6.2.
Oh, by the way . . . the problem, then, is that I can’t send mail from that one account. The mail program appears to TRY to send the message when I hit Send with the pinwheel spinning. But eventually I get a Mail dialog box saying:
“Cannot send message using the server box555.bluehost.com:[email protected]
“Connection on the default ports failed." And it offers me the full SMPT Server List so that I can choose a different server of edit the server list.
Sorry for such a tedious description, but this problem is driving me crazy and it appears that I’m not the only one with this problem.

Good suggestion and I will contact Bluehost tomorrow. However, I been with them for over a year with not problems. The problem started (for me) with OS 4.6. and and/or Mail v4.2.
Will report back if I learn anything useful.

    Unfortunately I do not have a Messenger System in front of me or I might be able to answer the question without hasseling this forum.
    How can a user hide their online status? The problem is that the customer takes user privacy very seriously and before they even think about implementing Messenger they want to be sure that a user can hide their online status if they want to. Is this possible? If so, how?

    Hi Mike,
    Just some more information... in the Web Console... Click Current Users to display a list of current Messenger users and their IP addresses. Click the User ID, then click Disconnect User to disconnect the user.
    So on the backend you can see who is connected... just not from the client.

    it seems that lately some of my sent mails are lost in cyberspace.
    i don't get a faillure notice from the mailsverver, and still some of my mails (even without attachment) never arrive at adresses that i very often use... can i get a delivery status with 'mail'?

    Eventually you should get an error report, othwise
    you must assume it is delivered.
    Unfortunately, that's not the case. Spam has utterly degraded the e-mail experience. I assure you that it's entirely possible, and quite common actually, for a message to never arrive at the destination without the sender receiving any error notification at all. It has happened to me multiple times, on both sides, and with different ISPs.

    My contact's online status indicators seem to have disappeared from the phone book view and from my contact short-cut icons on the desktop.  I had the phone on and they were available when I switched it on, but at some point, they just disappeared.  Please can someone explain what causes this and if there is anything I can do to solve it / prevent it, other than turning the phone off and on again.  Many thanks

    HI,
    Messages Beta can do the same indications for the older style iChat Buddy List the same as iChat does/did.
    The iMessage Login (the "Account" in the Messages Menu > Preferences > Accounts that deals with sending iMessages to iPhones and iPads) does not have the same indicators.
    What it does do is indicate the options in the "To" spot for the Name that is currently shown there.
    To explain that a bit further.
    When you click New Message the Blue Plus icon appears
    You can select Contacts from this list and navigate to a Contact in the Address Book
    Once you select a Contact their Name is in the "To" spot
    If you now click this it becomes a Drop down and the iMessage details they have are marked with a blue Speech bubble.
    IF you select an iMessage Contact this way and they are Off Line the name will go red.

    I am developing a search page where displaying users from office 365. I have retrieved all the users using the command  Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.UserCollection userCollection = client_Context.Web.SiteUsers;. To retrieve all the property values

  • Always "online" status

    I want to get rid of my "online" status. I tried to sign out but still my friends see me "online". I even tried to uninstall Skype from my mobile device but again - it shows me "online". Can anybody help me? Thanks!

    Was plagued by this issue, and moved to Facebook Messenger in the interim.  Now getting friends, slowly but surely, to move to Hangouts.
    Checked a few days ago and there are still people who haven't used Skype in like 6 montsh listed as Online in all the clients.  I'm done with it.
    This isn't just about logging yourself out.  You cannot log other people out with that command because you don't have access to your account.  It's griefing all sorts of people.
    So I ditched Skype, and it's a revelation to see how much your quality of life can increase when you have communications tools that work properly.

    1. In my ICQ account:
    I cant add some of the buddys in my address book. But i can add them in .mac account. Saw some posts incl. http://www.aptr36.dsl.pipex.com/page13.html but the problem remains. Im trying to find iChat prefs file to erase it, but cant find it.
    2. In my both personal ICQ and .mac accounts:
    I cant see /Windows/ ICQ user icons /theirs/.
    3. In my personal .mac account:
    I cant see /Windows/ ICQ users online status and theirs own icons.

    Hi ipitar,
    The Buddy list is kept on the AIM servers.
    Those that you add Address card info to ("Real Names") get added to the Address Book as well.
    Feedbag error 14 should be solved with the Feedbag 10 solution of Adding a group to your Buddy list called "Buddies"
    And/Or setting up a different Address Card info for them, so that there is no conflict with their existing Address Book entry.
    The error list page on page 13 also points to making sure the Buddy is allowing you to Add their name. (Authorisation)
    @mac names are obviously held on the Mac servers but there is a Link to the AIM servers to allow them to appear on your Budy List.
    As I said earlier iChat requires that port 5190 needs to be open to both UDP protocols.
    This applies not only to the Mac Firewall but in the modem and any router.
    IF, however, you have a device that Port Forwards AND wants the protocol info then you may have a conflict there.
    The solution is to change the Login port in iChat to 443 (iChat > Preferences > Accounts > Server Settings tab) and disable any TCP setting for 5190 in the modem.

    My buddies are no longer ordered by online status (aka available, then idle, then offline). They appear to be in random orders...i can't find a pattern, like alphabetical or even group.
    any suggestions on how to change this back?!

    You can do the ordering twice.
    Using First (or last) name then Availablity they will appear orered by name and Availablity.

    can anyone say me how to check the status of mail sent automatic from SBO Mailer service? Like we have a alert to send the alert to External mail id. As directed to only MD, we dont know whether he s getting the mail during alert. cant add any other user to receive the mail for in 2007 version its displaying all the added user names to the 'To' field of the address.
    So in case if there exists any queries or reports to check the status of the mail it would be easy for us to check whether the mail been delivered or not.

    Try to do a telnet connection to the port 25 of youre-mail server.
    Sometimes it refuses connection due to security configuration. Also it is important the users have at least write privileges to the attachment folder (defined in the SAP Business).
