It uses system RAM it doesn't have it own system RAM if it does it most likely is to small to see. Discrete memory is only for Video GPU in laptop not for audio.

  • How to tell if my laptop integrated graphics uses UMA or discrete memory?

    Hello,
I'm looking to buy a replacement heatsink/fan assembly for my DV6-6117DX laptop as the ball bearing on my fan is dieing. Using the service manual I've narrowed it down to two parts:
650848-001 (For use only with computer models equipped with an AMD A8, A6, or A4 processor and a graphics subsystem with discrete memory)
650847-001 (For use only with computer models equipped with an AMD A8, A6, or A4 processor and a graphics subsystem with UMA memory)
I'm just not sure whether my laptop's integrated graphics uses discrete memory or UMA memory. The processor is an AMD Quad-Core A8-3500M with integrated AMD Radeon HD 6620G Discrete-Class Graphics. This is copied from the HP specs page. Does the "discrete-class graphics" imply that it uses discrete memory?
    Thanks for any help!

Put this way if you have AMD video that is the discrete video and you most likely can't upgrade that video if that what your thinking of doing. It should have 1-2gigs of Video RAM that what it usualy comes with but that doesn't qualify it for a Gaming laptop if that is what your looking do to. Gaming laptops cost upwards to 2000US for decent game play and those Video are the higher end video chipset. And if you want to know if you have shared memory with the video look at your UEFI or Bios and look for shared video memory and you will have more insight into the video itself.

  • Does my Laptop have Discrete or UMA Memory?

    Hello there...
After about 14 months the laptop my mother purchased for me for my 2nd year of Grad School has experienced its first major issue as the cooling fan is malfunctioning. At start up before the OS boots it tells me the fan is malfunctioning and therefore it wont boot unless I tell it too.
So I want to purchase a replacement fan so I can take it to the local repair shop and get it fixed.  I believe that I've found the two potential options for fans as well. However, according to the manual the part is dependent upon whether the" computer model is equipped with an Intel processor and a graphics subsystem with UMA memory or discrete memory". Unfortunately I have no idea what this means at all...
    This is the laptop...

  • Fan replacement - do I have discrete or UMA memory?

    Hi,
I have an HP Pavilion dv7-6c80us laptop that I need to replace the cooling fan on.
    Intel HD Graphics 3000
    Intel HM65
    Intel core i7 2670QM
To order a replacement fan, I need to know whether I have:
    a graphics subsystem with
    2048-MB of discrete memory
    (Part #666391-001)
    a graphics subsystem with
    1024-MB of discrete memory
    (Part #666390-001)
    a graphics subsystem with
    UMA memory
    (Part #666392-001)
How do I find this information?
    Thanks.

If it only has the Intel HD 3000 Graphics, that is UMA.
The specs confirm that is the case:

  • DV6-6060sa Do I have discrete graphics memory or UMA graphics memory? + Where is 'System Fan 'B''

    Hi There,
I am going to attempt replacing a fan on my Pavilion DV6-6060sa Laptop, I have been looking around on the net and have just now read through the service manual to better understand which component needs replacing.
I am going to be changing system fan 'B', as the error message states at start-up. (I have tried compressed air spray through the air vents but this has not worked.)
In order for me to purchase the correct part number I need to know whether I have Discrete memory or UMA memory.
As stated above I have a Pavilion DV6-6060sa unit, the below snippet is from the service manual.
    (12) Fan/heat sink assembly (includes replacement thermal material):
For use only with computer models equipped with ATI Mobility Radeon HD4650
    graphics subsystems
    518435-001
For use only with computer models equipped with graphics subsystems with discrete
    graphics memory
    512837-001
For use only with computer models equipped with graphics subsystems with UMA
    graphics memory
    512830-001
Could you let me know which part number I require, and also send me a link for an original HP replacement part please?
The fan I will be replacing is the fan closes to the power button, looking down at the laptop from a birds eye view it is located on the upper left corner. The two vents (one on the left and one on the top) usud to have air forced out from the fan, which is now not working. I take it this is system fan 'B' and is the heat sink?
Please can you confirm the above information?
Specifically Including a description of which fan system fan 'B' is? (thank you)
    I appreciate your help, Simon.

    Hi,
90B is the error code, not the location of the fan.

    Hi,
Your notebook has a discrete ( ATI ) graphics chip - uma refers to dv5's that came with an Integrated gpu.

    Hi,
This lappy should have a discrete/dedicated graphics subsystem. The specs say Radeon HD 6490M so it means a dedicated graphics card with its own memory. There should be also an Intel HD 3000 but this graphics chip is a part of the CPU. You need a fan for the discrete graphics memory.

  • Do I have a discrete or UMA graphics memory subsystem?

Hi, as I have problems with the heat I need to replace the heat sink and fan.
I have Probook 4720s, do I have UMA or discrete graphics system? I dont know which graphic card I have, because in device manager it says Radeon HD 5000 series (windows 8.1) and in other pages with tests of this laptop it says Radeon HD 4350.

  • What heatsink do I need? DV7t-6100 quad

    Hi all,
I've spent hours on the phone with HP techsupport and parts departments trying to find out the partnumber for my heatsink. The fan is having problems and it's not software or dust buildup related so I figure the heatsink is a good place to start. Unfortunately there are a ton of options for my laptop. Even more unfortunate, it seems that no one in HP support can answer a simple question about what part is compatible with my system. The only answer I received is that all the heatsinks are the same and there's no difference or issue with compatibility. I know that's a bunch of bull as a simple google search shows that they all look vastly different so I'm hoping someone here can help.
    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02842278.pdf
The service manual link above details the three possibilities.
    1. "For use only with computer models equipped with an Intel processor and a graphics subsystem with 2.0-GB of discrete memory."
    2. "For use only with computer models equipped with an Intel processor and a graphics subsystem with UMA memory."
    3. "For use only with computer models equipped with an Intel processor."
    Specs:
    Dv7t-6100 - Win 7 Ultimate
    Quadcore sandybridge intel processor
    Radeon 6770M graphics
    Product: LM418AV
If you need more information I'll try to provide it. I'm not entirely sure what those three options entail though I would assume it's a combination of my processor and graphics.
    Thanks for any help.

    Hi:
The specs you posted for your model indicate it has an Intel processor with a discrete video adapter (6770M).
Does your graphics spec in the control panel indicate the gpu has 2 GB of memory?
IMO, the heatsink you would get would be the one you listed first.
UMA memory is for PC's with just the onboard Intel HD graphics, and Lord knows what the 3rd one means!

    Hi
I think the replacement comes as Fan/heat sink assembly (includes replacement thermal material).
Regarding Spare Part numbers: I think your is with Switchable graphics so you have to order the first one --
For use only with computer models equipped with an Intel processor and a graphics subsystem with 2.0-GB of discrete memory
    653627-001
For use only with computer models equipped with an Intel processor and a graphics subsystem with UMA memory

  • NX7600GS Fan Replacement?

I have a NX7600GS-T2D256E and recently upgraded my motherboard and processor and after putting everything together and turning it on I noticed than my fan wasn't working I've had the video card over 2 years now and still works great but where can I get a replacement fan for it? Thanks

    Hi:
Based on the info you provided, you have a 45W processor with the Intel UMA and AMD Discrete switchable graphics adapters.
Accordingly, you would need this one...
For use only with computer models equipped with a graphics subsystem with 1024-MB Discrete memory -- HP Part # 641477-001
See chapter 3, page 30 of the Maintenance and Service Guide.
The manual I am looking at is different than the one you are looking at because I don't see any reference to the processor wattage.
You have to order the fan and heat sink assembly as one unit.
