Hi There,
I am going to attempt replacing a fan on my Pavilion DV6-6060sa Laptop, I have been looking around on the net and have just now read through the service manual to better understand which component needs replacing.
I am going to be changing system fan 'B', as the error message states at start-up. (I have tried compressed air spray through the air vents but this has not worked.)
In order for me to purchase the correct part number I need to know whether I have Discrete memory or UMA memory.
As stated above I have a Pavilion DV6-6060sa unit, the below snippet is from the service manual.

The fan I will be replacing is the fan closes to the power button, looking down at the laptop from a birds eye view it is located on the upper left corner. The two vents (one on the left and one on the top) usud to have air forced out from the fan, which is now not working. I take it this is system fan 'B' and is the heat sink?
Please can you confirm the above information?
Specifically Including a description of which fan system fan 'B' is? (thank you)

What fan to get? don't know how to find if I have discrete or UMA graphics subsystems (dv7t-7000)

fan needs replaced, don't know if I have discrete or UMA graphics, options are as follows from the maintenance manual:
For use only with computer models equipped with graphics subsystems with UMA memory 603690-001
For use only with only with computer models equipped with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 graphics subsystems with discrete memory 604787-001
For use only with computer models equipped with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 graphics subsystems with discrete memory 603691-001
I am unsure of which one of these three options I have and don't know how to find out. Device manager lists Intel HD Graphics 4000, and NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M

You don't you can't and it would not help if you could. However, offered on the m7-k200 series was a GeForce 850M with 4 gigs of video memory. The graphics chips are soldered right on the motherboard so theoretically you could get the 850M motherboard and swap it for yours.
Here is the Service Manual:

The motherboards in this product line also include a processor soldered on so your best motherboard would be this:
Intel Core i7-4720HQ Discrete 850M 4 GB (2.6 GHz, SC turbo up to 3.6 GHz), 1600 MHz/6 MB L3, quad core 47 W for use with Windows Standard Operating System 782621-501
HP is out of stock on the motherboard but you might be able to find it online. I would expect it to cost over $400, perhaps quite a bit more.

Video Memory Check : FAILED

Hello ,colleagues! I have strange issue. When I started check of whole system Using HP Pc Hardware Diagnostics UEFI, (F2 on start, system diagnostics from USB drive with UEFI tool installed) I receive Error on Video RAM test: Video Memory Check : FAILEDFAILURE ID:QFVU0F-7M07MH-XD6WXA-Q2D603 There is no any troubles found by other software - I see no any errors in Windows logs, no application crashes, etc. Should I perform some actions to be sure that this issue will not affect my system and data? This is a systemboard video solution issue. Does your notebook have a discrete video adapter or only the onboard video solution ( via the CPU or APU, as appropriate to the CPU\chipset type)? I highly recommend contacting HP to arrange for warranty service. hi i was checking methods on how to make my graphics card work a little harder and people kept telling me to dedicate some memory to my video.
these are my settings right now:
total graphics memory: 358 mb
*dedicated video memory: 0 mb*
system video memory: 128
shared system memory: 230

Mobile Intel GMA X3100. Up to 358MB of shared video memory
Unfortunately the Intel Graphics solutions are not designed to have great 3D performance.
You need an ATI(AMD) or nVidia graphics chip for decent performance.
If you want to play the latest games, you will need to lower the resolution and use low graphics settings.
Note that many games need special DirectX/OpenGL features to run, which the Intel chip may not have.
I imagine older games like FarCry1 will run ok

Why does my Macbook Air only have 64MB of dedicated video memory

Hello, I created a windows partition on my Macbook Air and after going into my Display settings I see that it only has 64MB of dedicated video memory out of 1696MB. Please tell me how I can fix this problem as I should have much more Dedicated memory from my Macbook air.
Additional INFO: MacBook Air Early 2014 edition, and has Intel 5000.

Hey thanks a lot for the quick reply Loner, however, I'm not really sure what you mean (sorry I'm a bit slow when it comes to computers). I checked out your link, and when I do the same steps as in the link by going into screen resolution> advanced> adapter: it shows Total Available Graphics Memory- 1696MB, and Dedicated Video Memory 64MB, but it only uses 64MB, it doesn't use more when it needs to.
I tried playing GTA 4 on my laptop via bootcamp, and in-game it tells me my laptop is only using 64MB of video memory and the game requires at least 260 or so, and my laptop won't use more (at least I'm pretty sure it is not using more or the game wouldn't give me that mssg).
Again, thanks for your response, and looking forward to what you have to say, or any other that want to chime in Thanks a lot as always.

Video Memory Used

Is there an app or utility that would tell me how much RAM the video card is using?
Does it show up under Activity Monitor?
I am trying to trouble shoot a problem just a few of us are having using a projector via the video out showing a quicktime video using Keynote. For my self, at higher projector resolutions, the image begins to flicker, then becomes distorted (tall and skinny in my case), I am just wondering if I am coming up against a video memory limitation since trying the options listed on the keynote forum have not helped.

Once you open System Profiler there should be a line called "memory" which is the RAM (vs. hard drive size which is not what is called memory), e.g., Memory: 1.5 GB
For video click on the line Graphics/Displays and look at the chipset line, e.g., Chipset Model: GeForce2 TwinView
Kappy's instructions are handy for checking the original configuration of your computer, but that may have been changed at some time, especially if you bought it secondhand.

I am confused about my dedicated video memory. I was told by the salesman that I got 1 GB dedicated video memory to play high end graphic games. What I could find is only 32 MB dedicated video memory in the system and 1024 MB in Geforce. So please help me. Will I get performance of 1 GB dedicated video memory performance?
Also got a query regarding the LSC's error message regarding Device Manager alert. I could not find any error in the device manager.

Hi ismailpm.
The 32mb of video ram is whats built into the dedicated GPU on the morherboards CPU.
The ram you have installed will also be used by the processor to keep your system running smoothly.
The Geforce however is a discreet Graphics card connected via PCE-E on the motherboard, Your Geforce has 1GB which equals 1024 mb of dedicated ram used for graphics intensive programes.
The idea is that if you are playing a game that requires more power your Geforce should overide the onboard graphics to provide the extra power needed.
As for LSC, Make sure you have the latest version 2.3.002, Once installed re-run hardware scan, That should fix any Driver missing issues.

I just bought this laptop because I needed something that wasnt expensive and needed it quickly (for college). I have replaced the original 2GB's of RAM with 8GB's. Is there a way to dedicate some of this extra RAM to my video memory? I have already checked the BIOs but I didn't see the setting. Any help on this would be great.

Increasing video memory from the A40-211

Hello all,
I've got the Satellite A40-211. The Intel chipset also takes care for all the graphic stuff, so it needs a little bit RAM memory as video memory. This is possible up to a maximum of 64MB. The problem is that the chipset now uses a maximum of 16mb as video memory, but I want to increase this to 64MB.
Where can I find the settings for this in Windows Xp Home?

Let me say that your Notebook has an dynamic Memory Management
Your Computer System reserved only so much Graphic Memory as he needs, to accomplish all tasks running on your A40.
...this Dynamic Video Sharing is not bad, as I think !
