Discs come out dirty

Hello,
After recently burning multiple DVD's, I have begun to notice that there are smudge marks in the same form on every disc I burned. The last one I burned, I checked the disc before putting in to be burned, and it was spotless. But when it was ejected after burning, there was about a 1/2 inch smudge mark on the edge of the DVD. I have not seen what effect this has on CD's or commercially bought discs, but I do know that if I re-instert these burned DVD's into my drive, they come out with the same smudge marks in different places. I suspect that this has to do with the small flaps of fabric that are supposed to keep dirt from coming into the drive becoming dirty themselves. Does anyone know how I can clean or replace these? Are they attached to the drive or the computer case? This is starting to become a major problem because the last disc I burned wont even play the last bits of video that were burned to the disc correctly (the data on the outer edge of the disc). Thanks,
Trevor

There are many different kinds of cleaning kits. You will need to go to the store to check them out for yourself to find the one for your specific needs.
If you cannot find what you need, then you will need to contact Apple and/or your local AASP. Hopefully, your computer is still under warranty and/or you have AppleCare.

  • How Far Does The Ejected Disc Come Out?

When you eject a disc out of your iMac, how far does it come out? Mine stops right before the middle circle. On my iBook it used to come out to about half way through the circle.
    Thanks,
    Scott

    HI Scott,
Mine ejects to the middle of the disk. My iBook does that same as yours. Nothing to worry about.
The idea here is to grab the disk from the inside circle and the outside circumference of the disk as to not leave fingerprints on the disk itself.

  • My buddy tried to help me install windows 8 on my new mac book and all he did was put the disc in and now it will not come out and my mac book will not turn off

I cannot get the windows 8 disc out of my mac book pro

    Force eject a stuck cd/dvd
First try the normal methods to remove the disc. Drag its icon to the Trash can in the Dock or select 'Eject' from the File menu.
If you are running a virtual machine, e.g. VMFusion, ensure that the CD is disconnected from the virtual machine. This will sometimes allow the CD to now show up in Mac OS X.
Shut down the computer and start up whilst holding down the mouse button. This may take some time, but keep your finger on the mouse button right up until the disc comes out or the log-in screen has appeared.
If you have Toast Titanium installed on your computer, choose EJECT DISC from the menubar.
Sometimes you can successfully use the eject disc button in iTunes even if the disc is not visible to the Finder
Open Disc utility and choose the disc you wish to eject in the left-hand pane, then click on the Eject button.
Some Macintoshes have a paperclip hole that you can insert a straightened paperclip into, manually triggering the eject mechanism.
Open Terminal and type "drutil tray eject" to eject the disc/tray, and "drutil tray close" to close the tray.
If your computer has an eject button on the keyboard, restart the computer holding down the Option key. When the startup disk selection screen appears, let go of the option key and press the keyboard's eject button.

  • How to install once NEW update comes out with NFS disc?

I really want to go the UPDATE way and helped someone do this the other day and they did lose ADMIN privileges however, the fix for 10.5 DID work (where you use the install disc and chose repair password), but I do not want to lose my many email accounts as well as any functionality AND of course, Pro Tools/Logic.
So, let's say this new 10.5.01b DOES come out soon, how would one use the LEOPARD disc then the new UPDATE?
    Thanks

You will have to be running Leopard to get any Leopard updates.

  • I'm trying to get the image to print correct size.  i've tried center image, fit to media image,  and they all come out the same size...smaller than the size in "image size".  is this an Epson problem or Photoshop problem.  Thanks!

I just got a new printer...Epson R3000...but have had this problem before.  It's probably a simple fix, but I can't figure it out.  I'm asking for printing on 8.5 x 11 and the image comes out 6.5 x 9.5 every time.  Help please!  And thanks!

The Epson site stated that the R3000 printer can print borderless however the quality will suffer in the expanded print area. Borderless is not supported on some heavy paper.  To me the means your better off limiting you images size to the standard print area. There will be magins about 1/8" on the four  sides so the print area on 8.5"x11" paper is 8.26" x 10.76"....
Take note of the print size set by the epson driver it may change depending on the paper type set. Note my first epson 4800 setup where I set 8.5" x 11" sheet paper from tray into the printer setting the driver set a smaller size for the paper which was reflected into the Photoshop Print preview. It shows paper is 8.499" x 10.999 with a small unprintable area across the top....
    Paper
    Use paper under normal conditions:
    Temperature: 59 to 77 °F (15 to 25 °C)

    Note:
Since the quality of any particular brand or type of paper may be changed by the manufacturer at any time, Epson cannot guarantee the quality of any non-Epson brand or type of paper. Always test a sample of paper stock before purchasing large quantities or printing large jobs.

  • DVDs/CDs  come out jerky

I have a 4 day old black Macbook. Is it normal for CDs and DVDs to eject with a little stutter? They go in fine, but I get worried a bit when they come out less than smooth. Is this normal with new Macbooks and will it get smoother as I use it more?

My ibook had the same kind of hype. It was slow for cd's and dvd's to come out. I ended up eventually having to replace the optical drive because the discs ended up not coming out at all. I do find that even with the new drive, while the disc is in the machine it really isnt too quiet. Optical drive never seemed to be perfect.

  • Burned CDs come out with static, and stop/skip.  Why?

The CDs I've tried to burn come out with fuzzy static and pause momentarily at times. I have tried altering the writing speed (I've tried 1X, 4X, and "maximum possible") and playing the discs in the car, cd player, and computer (all produce the same result). I can hear the music, but with the fuzz and momentary pauses it's annoying to listen to. Also, the burned CDs play at a much softer volume level than, say, the radio in my car--so much so that I deafen myself whenever I change out the CDs and the radio kicks in.
What's going wrong? Is this an iTunes problem I can fix? The burner is new from Dell a year ago and never been used, so I don't think it's that. I would appreciate any help. Thanks.
    Dell Latitude C840 (PP01X)   Windows 2000

Try going to dell.com and download all updates for your system on there site, especailly firmware updates for the CD ROM and BIOs updates and chipset updates for the PC system.
If that doesn't fix it, goto edit>preferences>advanced tab>burn sub tab and UNCHECK "Sound Check" so they play louder
If needed we can check and see if the drive is in PIO mode instead of DMA. Does the PC lock up or get really slow when burning CDs?

  • Burn CD's come out shuffled??!!!

Whenever I try to burn a CD the CD comes out and all the songs are in a different order than in the playlist chosen.  I cannot find any settings that would control this and it is getting very old!

I just realized that I have the same problem (been a while since I put in any sort of CD, so don't know when it started or what might have triggered it). My Mac Pro's Superdrive recognizes DVDs, blank or not, but no CDs, blank or not, commercial software or burned discs.
Resetting PRAM didn't help. Would like to know if this is a software/settings problem or hardware problem before I take any drastic measures.

  • IMac 21.5 inch mid 2010 the beach ball comes out and won't let me do anything

As soon as I login to my iMac, the beachball comes out and won't let me do anything. I can't even force quit or shut down computer.

Insert your original install disc and start up while holding the C key. Choose your language and at the next screen instead of starting the installer go to the menu bar on top and click the Utilities menu, select Disk Utility. See if you can repair your hard drive. Also while you're in DU look towards the bottom of the window and check the SMART status of your hard drive, it needs to say verified.

  • Photos burned on a disk come out printed blurry

HI I need help, i dont use my printer to print photos i send a disc to a local Kodaks, the thing is is that i choose the photos then i click BURN, once thats finished and i go to print them they come out blurry ,( Not to mention the faces that increase my pictures 3 times ) not as clear this is driving me crazy , now when i read on I photo help it said i should export to a file outside of i photo before i burn, is this necessary? If so why is the burn option on my I photo toolbar if it were not to be used? PLease help since I love to have my photos printed professionally and its getting frustrating. Thank you very much, waiting for your reply.

Do not use the iPhoto burn command - that makes a mini iPhoto library suitable only for use by iPhoto - select the photos you want to print and export them (file menu ==> export) to a desktop folder and burn that folder to a disk - then delete the desktop folder
now when i read on I photo help it said i should export to a file outside of i photo before i burn, is this necessary?
Humm - you already had the answer - of course doing it the right way is necessary.
