Discussion - About the Nokia firmware changlogs.

Hi everyone.
Recently i posted a "forbidden" changlog that i found on the web of a certain Nokia smarthphone.
That changelog was removed and i was notified by one of the
moderators here that it was forbidden to post changelogs
and that they are for internal use only.
OK. i respect that.
But here is what i don't understand..
To Nokia:
Why can't your loyal customers know what's changed in the new fimrwares being released?
Nokia is not the only company who issues bug fixes and release changelogs to their products (see SE, Plextor, Asus..)
It's not such a big industrial secret.
So you have flaws, everybody has flaws, so what?
Why is it such a secret?
Why can't a customer know the benefits/downfalls of updating a firmware?
(See case of Nokia N80 V.4.0707.07 with so many complaints
from this smartphone's users all over the web)
Please comment on that.

Nokia N95

v.31.0.017

Maybe they dont bother about change logs because:
a) Change logs don't add value to shareholders' wealth.
b) Change logs won't improve profits.
c) Change logs won't improve market share.
d) Probably more than 90% of Nokia users don't know what firmware is and therefore don't care about it.
Excuse the cynisism.
I do want change logs and to me they are a natural part of the software lifecycle and something most users of software have come to expect as the norm.

  • Info about the linux-firmware package and rt2780-usb-fw

    Hello,
I have a have question about the linux-firmware package in the repo.
Recently there was an update for this package and when I checked its contents I saw that it also updates rt2870usb-fw.
Maybe I am a bit confused about the all kernel modules / firmware, but since I need to compile the latest kernel (linux-mainline from AUR) to get my buffalo wireless usb work(my rt2870 is supported from rc4), would it be possible to update only this package and use the kernel in the arch repo?
I can't test it myself because I am out of town for while.
    Thank you

  • Two questions about the Nokia 920 to Nokia experts...

    Hi,
I am considering the Nokia 920 for replacing my Apple 4. However I have two questions that nobody in a phoneshop can answer. Furthermore I can test it myself as about all Nokia 920 in shops seems to be a dummy for showroom purposes.
Therefore I would appreciate it if somebody can answer these two questions:
    1. Which versions of MS-Office can be read on the Nokia 920?
    2. I have heard there are some difficulties with the Nokia 920 to watch Youtube movies. Is this true? If so, what is  the solution of Nokia. If have heard to load a Metro app that solves these Youtube problems.
I have seen many videos by now about the Nokia 920 but none does cover really these questions. Thanks for taking the time to write me an answer.
    Regards,
    Jan
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Works with Office 2010 at least.
There is at least the latest MS Youtube app to stream video without problems.

  • Speculation about the next firmware (PR1.2) and it...

Can someone from nokia tell me when the next update is coming? At least an approximate release date? I have been uising the nokia n900 for almost 4 months now and yet nothing has been done about the ussd codes functinality. Its quite disappoiting, considering how expensive the phone is and yet nokia doesn't really care.

according to some rumours, pr1.2 is supposed to be released at the launch of the hong kong release of the device, which is sometime over the next two or three weeks.

also, this blog is not going to give you the same feedback that you are tyrying to get.  you may want to to to www dot maemo dot org  to get better feedback.
all the nokia people that i talk to, know about this discussions site, but non of them read it.

  • Discussion about the 'changelog' option from PKGBUILD

    Hi people,
I am curious about the changelog option of PKGBUILD[1]. I don't remember seeing many packages (if any!) using that option.
I stumbled upon this when I viewed the feh[2] PKGBUILD[3], which has just been updated. This PKGBUILD doesn't use such option, but feh ships with a changelog file:
    thiago@arch ~ $ head /usr/share/doc/feh/ChangeLog
    Sun, 27 Apr 2014 20:28:02 +0200 Daniel Friesel <[email protected]>
    * Release v2.11
    * Patch by Michael Vorburger: Fix erroneous free() in case of failed
    scandir (closes #140, #147)
    * Patch by rangerer: --randomize: re-randomize after list is through
    (closes #154)
    * When setting a wallpaper from a URL, do not try to store it as
absolute path in .fehbg (closes #153)
    * Add --scroll-step <px> option to change scroll_{up,left,down,right}
Well, the specific question about feh is: should I file a bug report about this?
Now, about changelogs in general: should we care about this feature?
From the packages I currently have installed, I found that only 7 of them use the changelog option. You can quickly count yours with:
thiago@arch ~ $ pacman -Qc > output; grep -v 'no changelog' output | grep 'Changelog for'
    Changelog for gdal:
    Changelog for geos:
    Changelog for kchmviewer:
    Changelog for libgeotiff:
    Changelog for powertop:
    Changelog for proj:
    Changelog for spotify:
(a couple of error messages also appears, from packages without changelogs in their PKGBUILDs).

There is also an old discussion here[4].
    [4]: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=70557
From Allan's response on #13, I had an idea: what if pacman -Qc (or similar), instead of showing the changelog pointed out in the PKGBUILD, showed us the last commit(s) from our official SVN repo? Would be relevant to open a new feature request on the bugtracker with this idea?

There are many causes for each of the errors mention.  It would be best to put one issue to the forum at a time.  For example, some of these issues occur then tasks are deleted from projects but a timesheet has been submitted.   Depending
on the scenario, some of these issues have been fixed with the latest service pack.
Other issues are due to bad scheduling habits with the project managers and so first determining what they have done can help resolve some the issues.
_error Loading, is because something is NULL in the data and the jave is choking when it build the form. Again, these may be because of delete tasks, resources, projects  or someone doing copying and pasting of rows.
    cheers!
PS.  Train your PM to not COPY and PASTE rows in project schedules.  It can be done, but it can create problems.  There are over 500 fields and some have unique data and the copy paste creates havic.

  • Question about the new firmware for Zen Mi

Does the recent update for the Micro allow the user to use Zen Micro Media Explorer unlike the update from December?

You have to upgrade the Explorer version to the one that is enabled for "MTP" firmware, which can be downloaded for free from the creative download section. I'm using the beta firmware, and it works pretty well for me, and I like the autosync feature with WMP0.

  • A few questions about the Nokia Lumia 810 for T-Mo...

I recently upgraded from the Nokia E73 Mode to the Nokia Lumia 810, my first ever "smart phone" and I'm already having problems which I hope can be clarified in this forum/thread.
    1. Supposedly this phone supports USB "drag & drop", but it doesn't seem to fully work for me. An example, with my previous phone I connected via USB cable and dragged computer files (Audio, Video, and Images) from my computer to the memory card of my phone. I can do this with this phone, but only somewhat. Once it's been "copied" to the SD card, I can't really edit the file from there. If I try renaming a music file for example, the window freezes saying "Program Not Responding". If I try to delete the file, it doesn't delete it either. Another big issue is once it's in my Nokia Lumia's SD card and I right-click it from my PC to edit an image with Photoshop, I can't do it. There's no "Open With..." feature. The same with audio files, I can't open with anything other than Windows Media Player, which I don't use. So does this phone really support "drag & drop" or is this just false advertising?
    2. How does one change the message tone? If a so-called "inferior" phone like the Nokia E73 Mode could do it, easily, why can't the superior Windows 8 smart phone do it? The same with an actual ringtone. How does one change it?
I actually do love this phone, but the whole lack of file manager and it's inability to "drag & drop" files for me disappoints.

    Welcome to the forum.
the drag m drop is working according to your post. Drag n drop doesn't include altering or editing files directly on the device.
coming from Symbian, I understand your dilemmas here.
best to take the file off the device by drag n drop from the device to the PC and then alter it and then drag b drop it back to your device.
as for the memory card, I have always found it faster to write directly to a card from the PC with an adapter rather then going through the device hardware.
with wp8, you can only use custom ring tones with what you drag into the ringtones folder when connected.
I would recommend changing the file genre to ringtone too
as for the messaging and email sounds currently you are limited to the sounds that available in the device. Not even the custom tones will show.
    hope that helps

  • Confusion about the Lumia firmware versions

I just got an update to my Lumia 900. It's version 7.10.8862.144, which Windows Phone Update History tells me is WP7.8.
I thought I had WP7.8 already. I've had the live tiles, multiple highlight colours and everything for a few months already. What's up with this?

    Hi Roope70,
7.10.8862.144 would be the OS version if I'm not mistaken. You can go to Settings > About > More Info to verify this.
If your phone has the Windows Phone 7.8 under Software version, you have the update already.
For the Firmware Revision number, depending on the country and variant of the phone, you can check yours here: http://www.nokia.com/global/support/software-update/lumia-software-update/availability-in-africa/
    Cheers.

  • About the [Nokia N6270]

Now,I am developing a file access program on Nokia n6270,but if I use file write function,it can not be supported. only can read and list the file directory.
Does anyone know this issue? I search about it and the result on Nokia website is it has JSR 75 ability,so read and write file should be support.
But why the actual program can not implements.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Points and discussion about the concepts behind making a 2D game

Hi all. I'm currently trying my hand at a 2D RPG style game. I have a few questions open for discussion, however, regarding the general points of implementation behind it.
    1. Tiles vs static background argument aside, am I right in the thinking the best way of implementing movement across a big background map is actually to move the background and other sprites in relation to the player, giving the illusion of player movement although he in fact never moves from the center of the screen? Is there a way of actually creating a large map, populating it with sprites, and then moving the player across it and panning the screen after him?
    2. Collision detection. If we go with the idea of moving everything in relation to the player rather than the player himself, woudln't this mean a large amount of calculations when collision detection occurs. Example, u want the player to stop moving when he hits a brick wall so you have to tell every entity sprite to stop moving in response to key presses (because remember, pressing up moves everything else up, not the player character).
    3. Isometric. Is the easiest way of implementing an isometric style game just to develop isometric graphics and sprites?
    4. Tiles. I've been doing a lot of reading into tiles but I'm not sure what's a better implementation: a tile system which consists of the entire background and things like houses split into tiles or a simple big background which can be scrolled around and is populated by house sprites which are all moved in relation to the player and their collision detections done individually. Tiles certainly seem like a nice innovation but I feel like the graphics suffer as a consequence and u end up with a 8bit NES looking game!
I'm just getting to grips with the concepts behind a lot of game design and all of this are some interesting points which I thought would be insightful to discuss. Opinions please!
    Cheers.

Everything I'm about to say is based off of a tile-based Maze game I made.
    1. Using a big background map is a bit lazy if you ask me, but graphically it would be easier to create a nice-looking game. You also have to think about memory. Let's say you manage to get an 800x600 background image at the size of 200kb with JPEG compression. That 200kb jpg image you use as a background is not 200kb when loaded into memory. I dont remember exactly how much bigger it gets in memory, so this next statement is probably wrong. But I heard that: 4bytes per pixel for the ARGB data, and there are 800x600 (480,000) pixels. That's 480000*4 (1920000) bytes if that statement is right. But it's probably wrong, so hopefully Abuse or someone will correct it :)
    2. Move EVERYTHING up? I think you're a little mixed up. When the background (and all objects with it) is scrolled, their actual X,Y data is not changed. It is simply drawn according to the scroll offset. The only thing that is being calclulated for movement is the character/scroll offset. Think of it as a camera. The entire world is not moving, just the location of where you're viewing it. Quick example:
You have a Tree who's location is (10,10). If the scroll offset is (0,0), then that Tree will be drawn at (10,10). But let's say your character moves up 5 pixels. You say you want him centered, so the scroll offset also moves up 5 pixels, making the offset (0,-5). When it's time to draw again, that Tree can't be at the same place it was, because the character moved. If the character moved up, the Tree would appear as if it moved DOWN. So you'd draw it like:
g.drawImage(tree.getImage(),tree.x-scrollOffsetX,tree.y-scrollOffsetY,null);With that math, the Tree is actually drawn at (10,15), which is lower than before the character moved. You don't actually loop through all of your objects and change each and every X and Y value, you just change the global scroll offset
Speaking of collision detection, this is where TileMaps have a large advantage. In a TileMap, you don't have to check through each and every object in the world for collision. You can just grab the 4 surrounding tiles (north, west, east, south) from the Tile array. This means there are only 4 collision detections no matter where the character is in any situation on the map.
If you used an image for background instead of tiles, you'd have to check each object in the world for collision because it's harder to tell how close it is to the character. One thing you could do is just grab all of the object currently visible on screen and check their collision, but, depending on where you are on the map, this could easily cause an inconsistent frame rate (you could be in a field of grass that has no collision or a forest of 50 trees each screen- LOTS of collision!).
    3. I dont got much to say about isometric :P
    4. an 8bit NES game, eh? That is the common misconception that you have to use images that are the same size of the tiles. Have you seen the game "The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords"? That's a tile-based game, but on several occasions you see trees that are 10 times bigger than the 20x20 tiles. They mixed it up, they used a TileMap for the basic ground, and put good looking large images on top. The large images (such as a large tree) uses 4 or 5 "base" tiles that are used for collision. That way the character will only collide with the bottom-half of the tree, giving the appearance of going "behind" the tree when the Y value is above the middle line of the tree. This is far away from looking like an 8bit NES game :)
I hope that was more helpful than it was confusing, but I tend to babble, so.. anyway. Hope it helps :o

  • Please give me an information about the Nokia Mobi...

    HI

Well N90 was but it's a bit old model.
N93 and N93i are still out there but there hasn't been new firmware for them and although they are good I think N95 is better overall than N93i.
N92 has a very poor camera (2 MP and no flash?). The thing with N92 is the good big screen and DVB-h but N95 8GB has better screen and camera.
EDIT: Actually I don't remember if the N92 as flash.

  • Discussion about the ThunderBolt or Charge

I have had the phone for over a year now. I absolutely love it. It has lived up to my expectations so far. The only thing that I hate about it is when you have an incoming call. To hang up, you have to end the call on all callers but your phone will ring a few seconds later for you to answer the phone. Its reminder that the other person is still on the line. Great phone to have.

yes...it's a glitch with conference calls. i haven't tried in ages, but i recall it being an issue, where you couldn't just end one line. all you could do was "end" and it would hang up on both lines on your end, but keep on on the line on the other end (but i don't remember if it kept the first call or the second person on the line?)
