Discussion Thread

I am looking to implement some discussion thread and collaborative functionality in our Oracle portal. Can anyone recommend some free portlets to accomplish this functionality?

Hi,
A few collaborative portlets are available free for download from "Integration Solutions" page. You can get portlets on SMTP, IMAP, Lotus Notes, MS Exchange & SMS from http://portalstudio.oracle.com/servlet/page?_pageid=3189&_dad=ops&_schema=OPSTUDIO Click on "Download Integration portlets" to download these portlets, you will be asked to authenticate yourself using the OTN username/password.
A discussion forum portlet has been developed by Peter Moskovits that can be accessed from this discussion forum thread Re: Discussion forum implementation problem
btw, what sort of collaborative functionality are you looking forward to?
Regards,
Abhinav

    Nope. You can always reverse that if you choose.

  • Is there a separate discussion thread for educators using ibook?

    Many of us in higher education are trying to use ibooks as text or as lab manuals.  Are there discussion threads for the particular ibook issues teachers/instructors/professors might come across?  Thank you.

    No, unless you are into the production of ebooks, then there are forums at

  • Discussion Thread Publish / Approval Process

    Hi,
    Is it possible to apply the KM publishing approval process to discussion posts? Can a reply to an initial post be sent to an approver before begin displayed to users?
    Is it also possible to set expiration dates to discussion threads similar to KM document time based publishing?
    Are there any auditing reports for posts that detail user, topic, date/time?
    Thanks

    Hi Nat,
       It's not possible to do that. You can not apply approval process to a discussion only is used by documents, idem to lifetime cycle. Also exist this kind of report.
    Patricio.

  • Why doesn't the HTC One (M8) Windows Phone have it's own Device Discussion Thread?

    I was looking to see what issues people have had with the HTC One (M8) but there is no discussion thread on this device; one of the two WP Verizon still sells. Who has one & do you like it?

    To add to poster above, this issue is really with MS not pushing their product and not working with devs to get more and better apps.  Also, you know VZW isn't pushing a WP because it isn't a Droid.  I sincerely hope WP gives Android and Apple a run one day, but right now the closest we will see a major MS push is later this year when their new phones start arriving.

  • How to easily make reference to a discussion thread ?

    There are several good discussion threads in the different forums offered that solve Users problems with Oracle. So, if I were to refer someone to a discussion thread I need to state forum name, author name, topic description and a date of the last update so that the person can read the information.
    Is there a discussion thread number or some easier way to refer people to a specific discussion thread ?
    Thank you.

  • Open Discussion Thread in Modal Dialog

    Hi again,
    I am wondering if it possible to have SharePoint open a discussion thread in a modal dialog. To be clear, this happens when someone adds a new discussion thread (ie. creates a new one). However, when clicking on an existing one to provide a comment, this
    opens in a new page rather than in a modal dialog. I would prefer the modal approach as the user then doesn't leave the page when submitting a reply to a thread.
    Is this possible?
    thanks!

    I have a solution, but
    This will require the use of SharePoint Designer.
    It has not been heavily tested, and only tested in SP 2010.
    The reply counts will not be automatically updated in the base discussion page.
    The page will be "unghosted" (customized) and might not upgrade correctly to the next version of SharePoint.
    Use at your own risk, batteries not included.
    Steps:
    Launch SharePoint Designer and open the site with the discussion board.
    In Navigation pane click All Files. (If this is not displayed your administrators may have partially locked down Designer.)
    Click Lists
    Click your discussion list
    Click Allitems.aspx
    In the Ribbon click Advanced Mode
    find the following lines:
    </ZoneTemplate></WebPartPages:WebPartZone>
    </asp:Content>
    In between these two lines insert a blank line and paste the JavaScript below.
    Save your changes, return to the discussion list and test.
    <script>
    function ttnGoToDiscussion(url)
    var options = SP.UI.$create_DialogOptions();
    options.url = url;
    options.width = 800;
    options.height = 500;
    SP.UI.ModalDialog.showModalDialog(options);
    function ChangeHowDiscussionsOpen()
    GoToDiscussion = ttnGoToDiscussion;
    ChangeHowDiscussionsOpen()
    </script>

  • Discussion thread removed, Why?

    Hi
    Yesterday I created a discussion thread, regarding the new advertising standards authority legislation, to which a number of people did present there opinions and thoughts.
    Today all traces of this thread have been removed, it does not appear in any history or my list of discussions created, this points to the thread having been removed. I am therefore left wondering why?
    The tread was not meant to offend, (and did not do so as far as I can ascertain) but generate thoughts and opinions on such legislation, more legislations are to come and simply ignoring them is I think not a valid argument, but definitely something worthy of at least a discussion on the forum, as they will in some way affect almost everyone. If anyone, (possibly a moderator) can please explain why this discussion was removed I would be grateful.
    Paula Z

    Hi
    First, thank you David for clearing this up for me, as I can now post a reply to a few of the points that where raised in the original thread for those interested.
    After some research/questions into what the legislation means for those of us involved in designing/developing web sites, I have received the following information -
    It is not the intention of the ASA, (Advertising Standards Authority) to interfere with legitimate web sites offering legitimate services or products, but to stop those sites advertising services or products that are not regarded as 'genuinely deliverable', (e.g. SEO sites claiming that you will be on the first page of Google, or that having a web site will increase your sales) pirated items, (software, video, etc) or counterfeit goods, (offering products that are not genuine or as advertised).
    Stop the abuse of email marketing campaigns that the targeted person has not signed up to, or has no way of stopping. (similar to that of mail-shots or telephone cold-calling).
    Ensure that all concerned with any form of advertising or offer of services on the internet, act in a considerate and responsible manner to all users of the internet.
    Now to the other points, and these are the result of the 'lack of action' within the web design/development community as a whole to implement changes themselves, notification of possible legislation was indicated by the European community commission 4years ago regarding this, (note: I remember this notification, and I did write about it in a reply to a thread 2 years ago) -
    What constitutes a professional web designer/developer - No official training or qualifications are to be required, nor are any to be expected. But it is to be expected that anyone offering these services should at least have a good understanding and be able to implement to a satisfactory standard, the lessons of the 'Web Standards Curriculum' as appropriate to the services offered. This are now offered, (free of charge) by both Opera at - http://www.opera.com/company/education/curriculum/, and Firefox at - http://www.drumbeat.org/p2pu-webcraft. An Open university course in modern web design/development that includes html5/css3, PHP/MySQL is also now available, a degree in 'media studies' alone is NOT regarded as a qualification or experience in web design/development.
    Professional bodies - Membership to any professional organization is not seen as a qualification, though it is hoped that the community will adopt and enforce via 'peer pressure/user groups' or similar, a professional 'Code of Practice' that can be seen as a standard to which the community as a whole will aspire to uphold.
    Other government departments are also to receive powers to protect the consumer over the coming years. One such is the OFT, (office of fair trading, which does now have the powers required) which is to ensure that action is taken to uphold current legislation regarding the availability of services as defined in the disability's discrimination act and other legislation, they have the powers to remove a web site completely, and enforce a court order that stops the site owner(s) trading under another name, (action will also be taken against anyone who knowingly assisted such infringements of the law).
    O/K, that's the main points I think, any questions, and please Osgood_ no abusive language as I can already hear it from here .

  • [ Bug ? ] Mail archive - discussion thread not visible if archive 'too early'

    Hello,
    I feel like something is wrong concerning mail archive and thread/discussions. I explain :
    - Septembre : I receive a mail and I archive it, via Gmail,  in the XX category
    - Octobre and Novembre : this mail become a thread, people answer, I answer etc...  The discussion ends and I archived it, via Gmail, so that it's not in my Incoming box anymore. (so :  it's the second time I archive it )
    - Today : I want to read again what we talked about in this thread, so I go to my XX category via iOS Mail app.
    > Here is the problem: I only see the the first mail of the thead, I have to 'unarchive' it and 're-archive it' so that all the mails in this discussion ( so the thread ) are totally visible when I go to my XX category via the Mail app. (of course, no problem with gmail interface)
    Someone may confirm ?
    Did I miss something ?
    cya

    No one got that problem ?

  • How do i change my discussions threads to private?

    I have posted a new thread on the discussion forum. And now I would like to change it to private.
    Does anyone know how I can do the previous?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    If you are talking about this then i find it to be pretty generic. And as mathan as suggested this is a public forum and the message can either be moved to any thread or deleted completely...

  • Repeated failures with posts to and displays of Discussions threads??

    I know this has come up before, but I was wondering if there are fixes yet for this frustrating problem. I'm sure that you all know what I mean.
    You enter a search term and then Return and nothing happens, save for the blue line filling up only some of the addrerss bar, and you end up having to refresh the screen.
    Or you type out, laboriously, a post, only to have it not be sent when you press Post Message-- and then you can do nothing save try refresh and get an error page. You ended up having to copy all text first before posting--just in case.
    Or you click on a thread or post to read and Safari's blue line goes only so far and nothing happens--the post is NOT displayed. And you end up having to click refresh, perhaps several times, and if you're lucky, it eventually displays the thread.
    Ironically, it is ONLY Apple's own Discussions forums where this happens.
    What is going on with this? And is there some Safari setting or add-on to fix it? Does it happen with other browsers, say Firefox, on this site? Hmm... maybe I'll have to switch browsers every time I want to go to Apple's own site! How weird is that!

    Starman, thanks for chiming in. The problem I'm having isn't a slow down... it's that the pages on THIS forum/board often refuse to load! And require multiple refresh tries-- and often that doesn't even work. And it's ONLY Apple's web site, so it's not a general ISP issue. (For example, it took me THREE times trying to be able to post this-- and required my going back to the login screen and re-entering the thread and pasting in the text before it would take!)
    Say, given your handle, are you an astronomer, amateur astronomer, or sci-fi fan by any chance? I'm an a.a. and sf fan on the East coast.
    Best wishes for clear skies and good universe sailing, regardless!

  • The kde-unstable 4.4 issues/discussion thread

    i am opening this thread in order to discuss problems and general stuff refering to kde 4.4 from kde-unstable repository.
    I start with the first problem i encountered this morning when i upgraded my system :
    I have a problem with nepomuk daemon not starting. I tried to enable it in systemsettings through "Desktop search" menu, and i realized that "Desktop search" is missing. Do i need to install anything extra in order to have these settings back?

    I'm stupid. How to use kde-unstable repository?
    I have added this to my /etc/pacman.conf:
    [kde-unstable]
    Include = /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist
    After that I did this:
    yaourt -Syu
    :: Synchronizing package databases...
    core is up to date
    extra is up to date
    community is up to date
    archlinuxfr is up to date
    kde-unstable is up to date
    Now what? Like I said, I'm stupid

  • Do moderators remove whole discussion threads?

    yesterday I read/replied to a post (in a forum I don't remember, alas) but it was regarding someone switching from windows and that he got banned for cussing or freaking out or something, but was back and gonna play nice, etc. - anyhow, that aside, some folks were trying to help 1) decipher his question(s) and 2) help him out.
    I posted a response, but can't find it (my response or the thread)
    reason I'd like to is one of the other responders posted a list of links to items that may help folks new to Macs.
    Anyhow, I had to leave and was gonna pick up on those links again today, but can't find my post (it was there, others had followed mine as well) - the whole thread/discussion seems to be gone.
    I'm just trying to track down that list of links to the resources one of the responders listed related to switching/using macs (I don't remember the names of the posters)
    Anyhow, am I missing something or is it possible the moderator(s) just removed the whole thread for some reason or another?

    Yes, when we feel it is necessary an entire topic will be removed. This is typically done when the topic is spam, a non-constructive rant, or nothing but wild rumor and speculation. We do not like to remove topics that may contain valuable information and prefer to edit or even lock, but it does happen.
    I checked and the topic you were looking for was removed by the staff.

    Is George Best the old Ryan Giggs? But Giggsy-wiggsy. Precocious talent, isn't he? Mmm? Ooh, got it all, you know? Speed, acceleration, sweet left foot, all the tricks - the dummy, the drop of the shoulder, the shimmy, nutmeg, jiggery-pokery, hocus pocus, abracadabra, I wanna reach out and grab ya. Steve Miller Band? Spin Doctors? Ooh, very similar.
    Diamond formation? Does anyone really know what that is? I mean, at least you knew where you were with Alf Ramsey's wingless wonders. You know? 4-4-2, 4-2-4, 4-3-3... 0898 654000, freephone double glazing?
    Oh, those Brazilians, you know? Circa 1970? Broke the mould. Theory out the window. Free expression of football. Uncategorisable. Is that a word? It is now! You know? Far cry from small boys in the park, jumpers for goalposts. Rush goalie. Two at the back, three in the middle, four up front, one's gone home for his tea. Beans on toast? Possibly, don't quote me on that. Marvellous.

    Apparently Alex Song is pretty much on his way out. What is happening to my team At this rate Arsenal will have an entirely new spine to their team as it used to be Szczesny, Vermaelen, Song, RVP. Now it's looking like Szczesny, Vermaelen, M'Villa (?) and Podolski. I'm not sure how I feel about it. Definitely more worried about losing Song than RVP though  Maybe it'll do us good, we'll win the title (or any cup for that matter ) RVP will feel like a total mug and United won't win anything this season, again.  If that happened my level of joy would be on par with the invincibles season This is the first season in a long time I've felt confident about a cup. But that was before the Song rumour. Also another rumour that's interesting is the Spanish international Llorente. Although that one is a little less likely I think. And even less likely is the silly Hernandez to Arsenal rumour. While it'd probably be better for him, I can't see Fergie letting him go like that.
