Disengaging the keyboard latch for 12" G4 Powerbook
Hello again;
Does anyone know how to disengage the keyboard latch for a G4 Powerbook 12" ?
I am trying to reset the PMU. I have the keyboard screws off (under the F1/F2 and F11/F12 keys. I also have the F5/F6 keys off. I have removed the screws but the latch(?) seems to be black and is not a normal screw.
Help please.
Cheers
(This is also posted in the 'power-battery' section (sorry but I'm desperate to fix this machine).
First, there is no reason to remove the keyboad in order to do a PMU reset on any of the 12" powerbooks. For instructions on PMU resets for all 'modern' macs, see this kbase document: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449
Second, there is no latch on the keyboard for those machines. To remove the keyboard you just remove those F1, F2, F11, F12 keys, remove the tiny screws under them. Then turn the computer over, remove the 4 screws holding the ram cover on, remove the single black screw found under that panel. Now the keyboard will flip up. I have a PowerBook G4 (867 MHz). Believe me, I cased the thing all over and there is no reset buttton anywhere on the outside. (I know what they look like as I am a long time Apple user, and this is my fourth machine).
This is just final effort before taking to the shop tomorrow, but I don't live anywhere near London so it will be a third party, certified Apple repair shop. I just thought I would try this first, rather than paying some guy to push a button that I almost have access to.

Can i change the keyboard command for entering Full Screen? I don't see the option in the keyboard preferences pane.
My midi set up is fairly extensive, and what I've done is keep an up to date diagram of all my midi interfaces and device connections. I use this as the desktop background on my studio mac, and just hit F11 when I need to reference something. Simple but effective.

Where are the keyboard latches on Titanium PB 15" 1 GHz??
I'm trying to reset my PMU but I can't find the keyboard latches that are suppose to be between the ESC + F1 and F11 + F12 keys as stated in the article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449#faq9.
I looked at the 15" 1 GHz manual and it does show a space between these Esc + F1 and F11 + F12.
My Esc + F1 keys butt up to one another as do all the keys.
Am I missing something? (...yes I have a 1 GHz 15" Titanium)
G4 Mac OS X (10.4.6)Titanium: see the image below:
The middle latch (F5-F6) has a screw which also lights as the num lock lamp. You'll need a screw driver to undo that one. The other two latches have a small ridge to get your nail behind.
If the keys are right next togther then you must have a 1GHz Aluminium PB... as shown below:

I need to find the keyboard command for "PrintScreen"
I'm using a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X Version 10.7.5.
Processor 2.4 GHz intel core 2 Duo.
I'm just looking for the keyboard command for the "PrintScreen" function.
Any help?Thanks, Niel,
The only way that I could print all the columns on the page was to use the printscreen function. Regular printing cut off a crucial portion of the information.
If you know of any way to bring the print screen to full size - mine would only print in a compressed version - I'd love to know that as well.
Your answer, however, was very helpful.
Thanks,
Michael -
How do I change the keyboard shortcut for Cycle through open documents in PS CC for Mac?
Sorry to bug the community with such a seemingly inconsequential task, but I am seriously tired of using the awkward default keyboard shortcut for cycling through open docs in PS. I'd like to change it to what I am used in in Chrome, which is Cmd+Option+[left] or {right} arrow keys. I noticed this is not a command listed in the in keyboard shortcuts, for whatever reason. Where on Earth can I change this?
If it is not possible to do it by default, is there a plug-in or a change to the code that will allow this basic functionality?
Thanks again guys and gals!As far as I know, you can't. It's "hard wired" in. Not even Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts is allowed to change it.
However I did find this tip:
Anyway i never found tabs in Adobe application useful, instead i prefer the old school method: simply switch off tabs feature via illustrator/ preferences/ user interface/ open documents as tabs. Then in Mac preferences panel, under keyboard, just search for the “focus on next application window” field (under menu, keyboard and text) and assign a shortcut if the default option doesn't fit you. And there is now you can easily switch between open documents!.
The best part of this is that it can be used in all mac applications, not only Adobe ones. And remember, if you want this working on Indesign, Photoshop, etc be aware of first switch off the tab features so that the system could “see” multiple documents opened not only one single tabbed document.

I am using Windows 7 ultimate and Firefox 4. I tried Alt + enter which does not work.
There is no shortcut key for such context menu items.<br />
You can use the context menu key on the keyboard to open the right-click context menu on a link and press 'k' for the "Save Link As" item.<br />
You need to press the tab key until you arrive at that link.
You can set the pref <b>browser.display.focus_ring_width</b> to a higher value (I use 3) to make it easier to see which link has focus.
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />

What is the keyboard shortcut for extract page?
There used to be a series of keyboard shortcuts for page manipulation (and other) - using acrobat 9 till recently. Now new to Acrobat XI Pro (Windows 8.1). I can see the shortcuts for insert & delete page but not for extract page (and other). Am I missing something? The keyboard shortcuts are a must for speed and a healthy right wrist.
Thank-you for your time. There isn't a direct way of doing it, but you can "hack" it using a script. Create a folder-level script with this code:
app.addMenuItem({cName: "MyExtractPages", cUser: "E&xtract Pages", cParent: "Edit",
cExec: "app.execMenuItem(\"ExtractPages\");", cEnable: "event.rc = (event.target!=null)"});
This will add a new menu item to the Edit menu which you could access using the following keyboard shortcut: Alt+E, X -
What is the keyboard shortcut for changing dictation language in Yosemite?
I can't find the keyboard shortcuts to change the dictation language in Mac OS X?
I would really appreciate if someone help me with this problem. I work with two languages and I really can't find any way to do that.
Thanks for your help guysUntil the developer can release dictationswitcher compatible with Yosemite, here is an AppleScript that will toggle between two languages. After it switches, it will speak which language has been set. Currently, the spoken text is in English (United States). This script will work on Yosemite and Mavericks. Tested.
What you need to do to get this to work.
Add your alternative language to the Dictation Language pop-up.Set your languages in the AppleScript property strings exactly as they appear in the Dictation Language Menu.
Copy/Paste the following AppleScript into your Script Editor (/Applications/Utilities).
Click the hammer (compile) button
Save once as File format text (dictation.applescript) - don't hide the extension, or check any of the checkboxes.
Option+Save As… File format Application to your Desktop. Hide the extension, and check no other checkboxes.
The first time that you run this application, you will receive a dialog box just like the one below (I changed the name back to dictation):
Click Open System Preferences. Click on the gold lock button in the lower left corner. The Accessibility category will be selected, but the dictation application in the list of apps will be unchecked. Check it, and then click the gold lock again. Quit out of the dictation application on your Desktop, and run it again. If you happen to get another dialog indicating that it still does not have permission, revisit the System Preferences > Security & Privacy panel, and under the Privacy tab > Accessibility, uncheck the dictation application, and then recheck it again. Quit System Preferences. This happened to me, and following this second action allowed it to work properly.
Future releases of OS X may impact this application if Apple changes the order of the UI elements.
I modified this AppleScript from an Apple StackExchange post by qegal in 2012.
Copy/Paste the following AppleScript into your Yosemite Script Editor per the above instructions.
property defaultLang : "English (United States)"
property altLang : "German (Germany)"
-- property altLang : "French (France)"
tell application "System Events" to set p to (path to frontmost application) as string
tell application "System Preferences"

reveal anchor "Dictation" of pane "com.apple.preference.speech"
end tell
tell application "System Events"

say "Dictation set to " & altLang
else if (get value of attribute "AXValue") contains altLang then
click menu item defaultLang of menu 1
say "Dictation set to " & defaultLang
end if
on error errmsg number errnbr
tell process "System Preferences" to if it is running then quit

Trying to navigate the screen without my mousepad. I have carpal tunnel and early stage arthritis and cannot repeatedly make the appropriate motions to scroll with two fingers. Is there a keyboard shortcut for scrolling up and down line by line or page by page?
Thank you.Yeah. sorry. those are not correct. ctrl N + P are for home and end line shortcuts. Ctrl V does go down one line. But CTRL arrow up or down do not work in Safari. But thank you very much for the attention and the time...
Note from my first post above -- I did not say to use CTRL arrow in Safari:
For Safari:
Scroll down a line: down arrow
Scroll down a screen: option down arrow
Note from my second post above and from the first link I gave that Control N, P, and V worked for me in Pages as described in the link and in my post:
The link to shortcuts that I gave abaove includes Control N, P, and V for move down a line, up a line and down a page and those seem to work in Pages. -
Why is the keyboard shortcut for 'Select next input source' disabled when using Safari?
I'm using Safari 6.0.5 and am running 10.8.4 on a MacBook Pro 13" from last year.
I've been using Chrome and Firefox heavily recently, but switched to Safari to give it a chance. It's really nice and lightweight, which suits me.
However, for some reason unbeknownst to me, the keyboard shortcut 'Select next input source' is disabled in Safari, in all windows/input methods.
Since I constantly switch input methods, this is incredibly frustrating.
It persists after quit + restart.
Any ideas?Yes, just Safari. In Chrome, Firefox and all other applications it works as expected.
