Disk - 100 %

Hi experts,
I am writing because I have a problem with an efficiency of disk from date of purchase. The computer was restored to initial state and nothing has changed.
I don't like a saving and reading of the disk. There are "kickbacks"  in characteristics during launching some program. Disk can work at 100 percent  when installing or uninstalling whatever (for example Microsoft Office 2010-  alert Source Engine. It caused "dead-halt" for a few seconds.
The temperature of the disk got up to 47 Celsius degrees maximally.
Tests:
I also examined disk with the aid of diagnostic program in UEFI.
I started up particular test which lasted for 3 hours. Everything seems to be fine.
There are alerts pertain to efficiency of the disk (TOSHIBA MQ01ABD075). It was detected by Norton Internet Security and from my observations (screens below). It is not normal.
Sometimes LOCAL NETWORK SERVICE and SYSTEM (itself/ alone) cause the usage of the disk at 100% ( after starting operating system ).
Could you give me a piece of advice? Is that malfunction serious ?

I talked to specialist from Microsoft.
This is his diagnosis:
The minidump files showed a KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE (139) stop error referencing the USBXHCI.SYS:
BUCKET_ID:  0x139_3_USBXHCI!TransferRing_TransferResourcesFree
The USBXHCI.SYS, which is dated Jul 25, 2012, is a USB driver and there may be a conflict between the USBXHCI.SYS and another driver possibly from the Nokia software.
I bought  machine on 7 December 2012 so it could not be driver from the Nokia software.
I tried to update my mobile phone (Nokia 500) by Nokia Suite 3.5.34 on about 25 December 2012, not 25 Jul.
So what do you think ? What reason can be in your opinion? Maybe  the wrong software of Controller Disk, video driver?
or Windows 8 heh
I am going to make a complaint tomorrow.  I am not able to repair it myself , even with your help.

has to reboot and some data has been collected for performance analysis.
PS: I did check the paging, its fine; Disabled caching on the disk; none of them have hepled.
    Thanks in Advance

In order to diagnose your problem you will need to download and install the below
Install the WPT (Windows Performance Toolkit)
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30652
Help with installation (if needed) is here
When you have, open an elevated command prompt and type the following
WPRUI.exe (which is the windows performance recorder) and check off the boxes for the following:
First level triage (if available), CPU usage, Disk IO.
If your problem is not CPU or HD then check off the relevant box/s as well (for example networking or registry)  Please configure yours as per the below snip
    Click Start
Let it run for 60 secs or more and save the file (it will show you where it is being saved and what the file is called)
Zip the file and upload to us on Onedrive (or any file sharing service) and give us a link to it in your next post.

  • Disk 100% busy

    Hi
We have two node Sun Cluster and recently we found that one of the disk is always 100% busy.
See a snapshot of iostat below
    r/s w/s kr/s kw/s wait actv wsvc_t asvc_t %w %b device
    0.7 10.3 5.3 82.5 0.0 2.0 0.0 185.0 0 100 8/md1631
    1.7 8.7 13.3 77.3 0.0 2.0 0.0 196.3 0 100 8/md1631
So disk (8/md1631) which is steadily 100% busy, while there is not really heavy activity on that disk.
In this output we see, that the disk is 100% busy and the average service time is > 100ms.
Additional we see only very low activity on that disk:
0.7 reads per second with 5.3K per second
10.3 writes per second with 82.5K per second.
The disk is used for Oracle DB as raw device.
After the reboot, the problem gets solved and but afte rsome time,it re-appears.
Please see attached iostat and lockstat output.
Can you help to find out if there is known solaris bug or how to solve this?

There is a good document on support.oracle.com which explains what 100% means. It does not mean the disk is under heavy load or saturated.
In short either ignore it or write some d to determine what process is causing it. As has been said previously finding out the metadevices configuration would help then running iostat again with all the metadevices and underlying disks as an argument.
    metaset -s <set> -p
    iostat -xntd <md device 1> <md device2> <md device n> .... <cXtXdX 1> <cXtXdX 2> <cXtXdX n> ... 1 20

  • Running db2 on zfs make disk 100% utilization

    Hello,
I am using db2 on solaris 10 with zfs filesystem. Since change from ufs to zfs it show 100% percent utilization of disk that keep db2 data file almost all the time.
Is this normal behavior or it has something wrong about zfs or db2 configuration?
I use T6140 with raid 1+0 to present to ldom host and using zfs, this is result from iostat
    # iostat -xne 5|grep c0d3

    Regards,

If your filesystem is populated with more than 80%, then the performance can be drastically decrease. Please try to increase filesystem size to become less that 80%. Several options are available with zfs command to force ZFS filesystem size or to have an minimal size.

I can attach Full events if want. Is this problem comes due to an hardware or OS error? Pls help.
    Thanks.

I own two of the dv4-1275mx laptops.  Both machines were purchased around June of 2009 from Best Buy, and both machines are doing the same thing as what has been described here.  It appears that this model has a flaw, or certain production runs have this flaw.  I have done an exhaustive amount of research about this problem and know quite a bit about it.
But, good luck getting HP's Customer No-Service department to actually fix the problem.  If you try to get them to fix it, you are about to be taken for quite a ride.  They have been absolutely no help in diagnosing the problem, and I am still trying to get them to acknowledge and fix the problem with these laptops.
The problem is with the hard disk controller.  It happens both with the built-in hard disk drive and with an external disk drive.  It occurs whenever you place a significant load on the disk controller.  When the problem occurs, the machine will lock up for 60 seconds at a time.  Eventually, the driver times out, resets the disk, and drive activity continues until it happens again.
Normally, the problem is very intermittent because normal usage of the machine doesn't always trigger this problem.  However, I have been able to replicate the problem consistently using a backup program called Macrium Reflect (free edition).  If I use Macrium Reflect to back up or restore the hard disk image using an external disk drive plugged into the eSATA port, then the ATAPI errors in the log appear immediately after it begins copying data.  Eventually, the backup will fail.
The worst part about this is the data corruption.  If the lock-up condition occurs when a disk write is happening, then the data being written will get corrupted and you will lose data.  I have had disks that have gradually gotten so corrupted that they won't boot anymore.  I have spent a countless number of hours backing up, restoring, and attempting to use the machine despite these problems.
After doing further research and testing, it appears that this type of problem is not uncommon to the AMD M780G / ATI Radeon 3200 chipset that these laptops use.  If you search the Internet for this type of error, you will find a number of HP and Non-HP customers complaining about this same issue with this chipset on different machines.  This leads me to believe that the problem might be with the chipset itself.
I have attempted to find a software remedy to the problem with no success.  This included trying all of the following:
    - Trying Windows Vista 64 with various configurations of service packs and updates.
    - Using the Microsoft AHCI driver and the ATI-supplied AHCI driver for the Radeon 3200 series
    - Using different BIOS revisions
    - Trying to find a magic combination of AHCI driver and BIOS revision that would work
    - Trying various settings for disk write caching
    - Turning of DMA on the controller
    - Uninstalling every piece of HP-supplied software that I could think of that might have even the slightest possibility of interfering with the hard disk controller
None of this worked.  Eventually, I concluded that this is a hardware problem that isn't going to get fixed through software.
Sadly, after doing all of this research, HP has not been helpful with getting this problem fixed.  In the past, I have owned laptops from Dell and Toshiba, and while I know that no manufacturer is perfect, I have not had many issues getting prompt and reliable service from either of those two companies when I needed it.  This is the first time I have purchased an HP laptop.  And after the customer no-service experiences I have had, it is likely to be the last time I purchase an HP laptop.
HP's technical support seems to think that re-imaging the drive to reset the machine to factory defaults cures all problems.  Over the phone, they have made me do this a couple of times, insisting that the problem is a result of a virus or something I installed on my machine.
Recently, I sent both of my laptops to them for service.  To assist them, I included the details of all of the research that I had done.  I gave them copies of this information both electronically, and included inside the box with the laptop.  The information had details on the steps that I tried, and links to websites documenting problems with the M780G chipset.  It also had details on how to replicate the problem with Macrium Reflect.  I even re-imaged the machine back to the factory image, and installed Macrium Reflect for their convenience.  And what did HP's service department do?  They re-imaged the hard drive again and sent it back to me without even bothering to run my test!  This is just absolutely moronic.  Either the service technician can't read, or the service technician just doesn't care about fixing customer problems!
My complaints about HP's service are as follows:
There is no sense of urgency about fixing problems.  I have been enduring this issue for 9 months now.  But no one seems to care.
It takes forever for them to turn around machines in their service department.  With Dell, I used to have a working laptop in my hands in 5 days, tops.  What's worse is that they ship the packages via FedEx Ground with signature confirmation.  (If you work a normal day job, good luck trying to get your package from FedEx Ground, which is only open when I am at work.)
The telephone and online support personnel often don't listen to you, and the details of problems don't ever seem to be recorded anywhere.  I have had to explain this problem over and over for various people who seemed almost completely ignorant about the problems I have been experiencing.
The technicians are not competent, even when you tell them what needs to be fixed.
As far as I am concerned, HP has not been honoring the warranty on my machines.  This is has been frustrating beyond words.  I am at the point where I just want two new laptops without this chipset, but I seriously doubt I will ever get that.  To all of you who are experiencing the same issue as I am, I wish you the best of luck in getting HP to resolve this problem--you are going to need it!

  • Satellite M30-604 - Hard disk mechanical failure

My satellite M30-604 is within warranty (bought 10 months ago) and my Hitachi travelstar hdd crashed out of the blue. The crash is probably mechanical so I can not use data recovery software (it makes things worse). The only way to get my data is to give the HD to some specialist who will open it in a "clean room" for something like 300 - 600 Euros (!) and try to recover as much as possible. Now:
-> Toshiba says that if I do that the warranty is void and I will also have to pay for a new disk (+ 100 euros)
-> If I want to replace the disk (warranty) then toshiba gets the old disk and I lose my data forever!!!
    WAIT A MINUTE GUYS!!!
    a) this is my data, my work and you CAN NOT blackmail me with this "warranty void" stuff. I want my old crashed disk back! I want to try to recover as much as I can! my 10-hours-a-day work is IN there!
    b) Moreover even if the heads of the disk crashed, my PERSONAL, PRIVATE data are still in the disk and CAN be read with special techniques. How can toshiba (or any other company for that matter) ask me to hand it over to them?
    What should I do?
    What would you do?

    Hi there,
I sympathise with your problem and can only suggest the following thoughts :
    1. Recovery of your data would seem the most important factor here. I would suggest removing the HDD yourself so that it can be sent to a specialist to recover what data is possible.
    2. Since removal of the HDD does not usually involve extensive dismantling of the notepad it should not invalidate the remaining warranty (other than on the HDD itself).
    3. A replacement HDD can usually be obtained quite cheaply from one of the internet sellers (check using GOOGLE for a suitable replacement). you can then re-install your operating system from the recovery CDs.
    4. I would suggest investing in a suitable backup software package (such as Norton Ghost) to avoid this problem in the future. (I have had four replacement HDDs on my Satellite A30 in the last 12 months).
    HTH

  • Scratch Disk Questions

Only pagefile, scratch/renders, and program files on this drive? Any reason not to do some file storage on this drive, too? Or what about other programs that never run simultaneously with editing apps?
Is it acceptable to have my main media storage drives in a RAID array, but use a single unraided SATA drive for scratch?  Or should one move the scratch disk from a single drive to RAID in these circumstances?

Keep in mind that the Velociraptor has only 16 MB cache, whereas a 1 TB disk has 32 MB cache. Also keep in mind that on a 150 GB disk 100 GB of data amounts to a fill rate of around 70%, while on a 1 TB disk that would only amount to 10% fill rate. Comparing both disks when empty, yes, the Velociraptor is faster, but when filled up to 70% is may well be slower than a 1 TB disk filled to 10%.
    Look at these charts:
The spikes are caused by the cache being depleted. With 100 GB data on the disk, the sequential read speed is around 100 MB/s
Now look at the graph from a 1 TB disk:
With the same 100 GB data on this disk the sequential read speed is around 115 MB/s
Now look at the graph for a 2 disk raid0 array with 2 x 1 TB disks:
With up to 900 GB of data the sequential read speed stays at around 200 GB/s.
And the last one, a 12 x 1 TB disk raid30 array shows these figures:
Across the board this delivers a sequential read speed of over 800 MB/s (average 853 MB/s) and no deterioration with increasing fill rates.
Although these graphs only indicate sequential read speeds, the same pattern applies to write speeds.

I've been getting this since I upgraded systemd last week. I tried fixing some of these by removing partitions with the same label that I wasn't using, which worked. The reason I have so many partitions with the same label is due to btrfs. Each partition that makes up a volume in btrfs has the same label. Apparently systemd doesn't like this.
Everything on my system seems to be working fine, however I would like to stop these errors since they are annoying/scary, but without having to reduce all my volumes to single.

I'm running with a wired-only set up. I'll have to wait for the weekend to look into the wireless angle, however I doubt that is the cause for me.
Following dront78's example below is the output of "# hwinfo --partitions"

i don't have time to look at this in detail this morning, but I will this afternoon.
Thank you for all the replies. Have any of you found this to actually be damaging?
[edit] In an effort to not be completely lazy, and because I was curious, I did check a bit into netctl. Running "$ netctl list" returned exactly nothing. I have no profiles.
    [edit2]
I just ran "$ dmesg -l err" on my laptop and I'm not getting any errors.

  • How to open an four year old upright 160 GB USB (backup) disk, alu housing

Bought unit 4 years ago, for backup purposes.
Unit carries no model- and/or serial number.
Assume that USB part of unit is out of order, unit not -anymore- seen by XP system; after weekly use.
Tried other USB cables and ports.
Would like to open unit, to get access to disk.
    Any advise welcome. T.I.A.
Greetings, Nap - Gent - Belgium

    Hi Daschiba and others,
Unit appeared to be Toshiba PX1219E-1G16 160GB .
After the "Deafening Silence" of Support Toshiba Europe, decided to open unit as described by Daschiba.
Before that: Checked Power Supply, was O.K.; so my idea that USB interface was defect, was vindicating.
Not that simple, had to use "brute force", but (luckily) disk 100 percent O.K., no lost files; so "back-up still available.

  • Index usage in depending on where clause changes.

    Hello Friends,
I need your help for one issue.
I have one query , which is using two table Say T1 and T2, where C1 is common column using which both are joined.
C1 is primary key in T1, but no index available in T2 for C1. T1C2 is the column which we want to select.
(Note that Either of table can be a Master table)
    Now see the query:
    Select T1C2
    From T1, T2
    where T2.C1 = T1.C1
Here where clause may have other conditions and From clause may have others tables as per requirements.
I want to know that, if, I change the query like following to let my query use the available index of T1.C1.
    Select T1C2
    from T1, T2
    where T1.C1 = T2.C1
Then, Will the query use the available index of T1. and Will i get better performance. Even a little improvement in performance may help me a lot as this kind of query is being used within a where loop (so it is going to be executed multiple times).
    Please advise on this..

  • BO Cluster Performance is Very slow

    Hi All,
We have installed BO servers in cluster with the following hardware configuration and the peformance of the application login and accessing the content is very very slow.
Please share your tips to improve performance of application login and accessing reports.
This is new server hence no users at the movement. I'm login CMC/BI as a Administrator and tis taking lot of time to show homepage, server list, users list.
    Two servers details:
Each one has Win2012 OS R2
    Each one has RAM 40GB
    Each one 6 core processors
Each one has local disk 100 GB
Both has cluster storage 100gb for frs
Back end database SYBASE ASE- 100 GB,11GB RAM
    Network bandwidth 10GB

    Hi S K,
    Try below
    1 ) Tomcat Parameter Changes
         --> Start > programs > Tomcat  > tomcat config > Java > Java Options > Change parameter                      value from -XX:MaxPermSize=384M to 512M
         --> Start > programs > Tomcat  > tomcat config > Java > maximum memory allocation 2048
    2) Make sure java version is compatible with BO , try java 7 Update 21 or 45 to get max support.
    3) Enable "Keep Temp files on your computer"  in java --> General --> Settings ->
    4) Reduce Security from High to Medium in Java --> Security
    5) For content go with Webi Processing Server clone with below values
Unv Cache Max SIze : 50
         Max Connections : 25
         Enable Memory Analysis
         Lower Threshold : 10000
         Upper : 12000
         Max : 16000
O/P Cache Dir : Provide path by naming it as Webicahchedir
Images Directory: Provide path by naming it as Webicahchedir
Max Doc cache Size (KB) : 2000000
    6) Cross check Java heap size for all custom (Split) Adaptive Processing Servers to make sure it has enough memory to get expected performance.
    7) If your Java Web server (Tomcat) is running on dedicated cluster (Node) try to restart server and observe Tomcat Process performance in Task Mgr.
    Thanks,
    Raju

  • Mac only boots into Windows, then blue screen, then shuts down

I just got a new MacBook Pro in January (and this is my first Mac) and purchased Windows 7 to run on it. I've successfully run it since then, but just last week my computer froze and now when I try to restart it, it goes to the black "starting windows" screen and then immediately flashes to a blue screen for only a few seconds that says:
    CACHE_MANAGER
If this is the first time you'v eseen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps.
Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manfuacturer for any windows updates you might need.
If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to selected Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.
    Technical Information:

    Initializing disk for crash dump...
    Beginning dump of physical memory...
Dumping physical memory to disk: 100
I tried booting my computer up in safe mode, but it doesn't work - goes to the same blue screen and crashes. I also tried the "startup repair" tool, which did not find anything to repair, and the option to restore the computer to a previous time when it operated, but that didn't work either. I tried the memory diagnostic and it did not find any problems.
When I boot it up, I try holding down the option key, I only get the option to start up in the Windows partition of my drive. There is no option to start my computer using the Mac OSX drive. I think this is an issue with Windows, but I'm not sure if it could be an issue with my Mac operating system or hardware.
I appreciate any help someone can provide!

I'm suffering from the same bug, and I think it's related to Apple_HFS driver.

  • HP 2000 notebook Recovery fails after complete install

I purchased the recovery disks for 64 bit Win 8 From HP and after loading the three recovery disks (100%) it asks for the forth disk then says recovery has failed. I have teh .CAB file saved but dont know how to submit this to HP support. The error log saves to the window file structure. The details:Detect some error during PININST_BBV.Check c:\system.sav\logs\burnbootwarn.logor, check c:\system.sav\logs\burnbootmerge.log  How can I get HP support to help me resolve this?

I spent 2.5 hours on the phone with HP tech support last .  Starting with changing the Bios date to 6/1/2006 and then started the recovery (3rd) time.  All look great unitl midnight when i went to bed .  It had loaded and ejected all 4 disks.  THE software installation was running.  This mornig I had a Recovery failed message.  Waiting fo rTech support to call me back (They are late). I can't do a refresh of windows 8 because the recovery has formatted the hard drive and you cannot get to an options screen. We havent reloaded any BIOS settings yet.  I am still waiting for tech support to call Case # 3017584806

  • Can not install any updates on macbook

    This is what I have...
    Hardware Overview:
    Model Name: MacBook
    Model Identifier: MacBook3,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.2 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 4 MB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 800 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: MB31.008E.B02

    available: 17.8 GB
    Used: 93.67 GB on disk
    (100,580,335,616 bytes)
I also have a copy of iLife 09 that has been installed on my iMac. I would like it to go on the MacBook as well so everything is compatible. It says I need to update the software for OS X but I haven't been able to do that for awhile. This is the message it gives me.
+The update "Mac OS X Update Combined: can't be installed.+
+The following install step failed: run preinstall script for MacOSXUpdCombo 10.5.8. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.+
It gives me a simular message no matter what software I try to update, printer, itunes...
I have tried making sure I have 15% available memory and I tried making a new user account.
    Any help would be appreciated!

    First, to the following:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
If this doesn't help then download the updater at support.apple.com/downloads/ and try again.
