Disk drive does not read mac game disk

Hi everyone,
Been having this problem for over a year now - but it's becoming an absolute nuisance and can't find the solution anywhere!
My disk drive works fine for music CDs and burnt CDs, but now for some reason it doesn't want to mount/load a mac game of Roller Coaster Tycoon (bought from the apple store too!). It just spins and doesn't show up in finder or loads and then literally a few minutes of spinning later (in which time pressing eject does nothing) a message comes up saying "you just inserted a blank CD"
Is there a solution to this? Please!
I'm using 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Due MBP bought in 2008.
Thanks!

Try making any change in System Preferences +CDs & DVDs+ pane. For example, if you have a music CD handy, change +When you insert a music CD+ to something else, such as Ignore. Insert the music CD and see if it is accepted and mounted.
If that works, change it back to the way it was set before, and see if that works now. Then see if other types of discs now work.
If it's a hardware problem, doing the above will not help. But it sometimes does work if the problems is with software or corrupted preferences.

  • Tecra M5: DVD drive does not read these mini DVDs

I have canon dvd handycam, and mini dvd works on it. One month back i recorded movie and pictures on mini dvd using handycam and ran mini dvd on my tecra M5 dvd drive, it worked very fine.
Now after 1 month i have 5 mini dvds with movies and pictures which i took on 1 month vacation in diffierent countries, i tried my best but tecra dvd drive does not read these mini dvd, cd drive label appears instead dvd drive when i put mini dvd in it.
All other standard size dvds, cds working fine on it.Its complicated and as well as irritating.
    Any suggestions?
    Why its messedup?

Seems the lens cannot read this miniDVDs. Possibly the drive lens cannot calibrate and therefore the miniDVDs are nonreadable.
Try the solution from sascha. Maybe youre a lucky man and it works.
If not, try to remove the drive physically from the notebook. Reboot the notebook without the drive. The Windows and BIOS shouldnt recognize the drive.
Then shuts down again, put the drive into the notebook and boot up the unit.
The notebook should recognize the drive and should indicate the firmware again.
Im not sure if this will help you but its attemptable

  • Dvd drive does not read dvd but reads cd only.

my hp compaq 420 core2 duo dvd drive does not read the dvds but only reads the cds. How can i solve this problem, please help me with the correct answer.

It will likely require replacement of the drive. There is more than one laser in there: one for each function. One can go bad without the other going bad.

Above is the part number for the DVD burner drive. I could not find one on eBay.  Here is one online:
    http://www.mydvddrives.com/replacement-for-hp-compaq-608141-001-sata-cd-dvdrw-dvd-ram-drive-burner-l...
Replacement is easy. Remove a single screw on the bottom and slide the old drive out and replace with the new drive.

  • SD-L622A CD/DVD drive does not read some CD's - Satellite L300-144

    Drive TOSHIBA SD-L622A.
The drive does not see boot CD with Windows XP Service Pack 3, some of boot CDs with diagnostic utilities (IMHO 2CD format).
Also these CD does not seen by drive even under Windows XP, Vista.
To My wife has bought Toshiba L300, but another modification. There there is drive Matsu****a (Panasonic).
Problems with the same disks has not arisen.
PS Sorry for a terrible English. My native language is Russian :)

In the first topic I wrote
..+The drive does not see boot CD with Windows XP Service Pack 3+..
I have taken other disk from my friend - the situation has not changed.
Installation Windows XP SP3 has a success only after copying the distribution kit on removable HDD and manual install Windows from command prompt
    But I think its abnormal.
I think, the theme can be closed because this question should be addressed to Toshiba's fimware developers
+If you cannot use “some CDs with diagnostic utilities” maybe are the problem those CDs. For me it is not so dramatic issue. if you can use all “commercial” medias everything must be OK.+
May be.....but I have bought two notebooks Toshiba in a day for Me & My wife.
On my wives notebook all the above-stated disks playing normally, but it has another drive by Panasonic (Matsu****a)

  • CD/DVD drive does not read all DVD formats and regions

    Hi
My Teac-dw-224e-a does not read all DVDs formats and regions.
It does read CDs but no DVDs at all.
Not DVD-R and not even regular DVDs. I have checked the region of the DVD.
I have reinstalled the driver and also tried with different software.
    What can I do?
    Please help!

    Hi
It is possible that your DVD drive has wrong region settings.
In this case it is not able to watch all possible DVD movies from different regions.
Of course you can change the settings 4 times. But after this changing the settings are fixed and its not possible to change it anymore.

  • The lightscribe DVD drives does not read media. Attempted software upgrade to no avail. Error.

The drive would not read media regardless of type or format of CD/DVD.  Downloaded and attemted lightscribe DVD software upgrade; however, during installation system generated error stating "InProc Error".  Something in programming of upgrade (get file...).

You could also try using System Restore to restore a previous restore point from before this became an issue.
If that doesn't work, you could try a recovery. Recovering your laptop to its original, out-of-the-box state is a great way to eliminate software as a possible cause of the problem. Note that doing a system recovery will return the laptop to its default conditions, completely wiping your data. Information on how to perform a system recovery can be found in your user's guide. On most models you can hold '0' (zero) with the computer turned off. Then press the power button while continuing to hold '0' until the recovery utlity starts.

  • Equium P200 - DVD drive does not read all discs

My DVD Drive has just started reading some discs and not others, also some of the discs are not read all the time, you can put a disc in click on the dvd drive and it'll open the drive and say insert a disk, device manager says device working properly and driver upto date.
Does anyone know what the problem is?

Yes, terentino is right. Would be helpful if you could tell us which discs exactly work and which not. Maybe that would give the answer.
Did you installed more than one burning application? Sometimes several installed burning applications could interfere with the other one since every application installs some kind of libraries with their own burning/driver engine to control the functions of your drive.
    bye

  • Mat****a UJ841S CD/DVD drive does not read movies from blockbuster

My dvd mat****a drive UJ841S will read /write everything ok.
BUT it does not recognize Movies from Blockbuster. I cannot play a movie.
    Can anyone help?
    David

    Hi
Seems this certain kind of DVD is not fully compatible with this CD/DVD drive
Sorry but such issues are not uncommon you will always meet some disks which are not fully compatible and that the drives laser lens cannot handle such disk
But just one question; are these movies created for the European region?
I mean there are different DVD regions
As far as I know the movies for European needs region 2
The United States need region 1 settings and South & Middle America need region 4
So if you would like to watch DVD designed for USA then you will have to change the region settings to 1.
But note; you can change the region settings only 4 times then this settings would be locked and it would be not possible to change it again

  • IBook G4 Combo Drive Does Not Read CD's - But Reads DVD's

Since about a week ago, my combo drive has not been able to read any audio or data CD's. However, it remains able to read and play DVD's. When I insert a CD into the drive, it would either automatically eject itself, or remain in the drive without being recognized by the system. After inserting a CD, I can hear the drive making noises indicating that it's trying to read the disk.
If anyone has encountered this problem, how can it be resolved?
    Thanks.

I had 8 CD-RW disks backing up iTunes and wanted to update them so I erased them to start over. Afterwards when I tried to use them each and every one was useless-my iBook was telling me they were unreadable. I Googled this problem for quite some time without finding a solution. People were actually replacing their optical drives. Anyway I found my own solution, figuring that the combo-drive was ok since it was reading all my DVDs and other CD-RWs. I opened BurnX, popped in the unreadable CD, but before the warning box came up I clicked on erase to erase the already erased CD. This prevented the warning box from coming up and the CD ejecting. Next I burned a small file onto the CD-just any old file-actually a short TextEdit document, then I erased that. Also I made sure that the CD was not apendable. It worked! I then did the same with all the other CDs that were unreadable after having erased the iTunes backup from them and was ready. I began the backup procedure and was afraid that it was going to tell me what I had forgotten to mention earlier, that the disk was not blank when I knew it was, but it didn't and they all worked fine. The backup was a success and I had found the answer to a problem that apparently many people have had over the years. Hope this helps.

  • DVD drive does not read media

Hi. This is regarding my Satellite L750 laptop (1 year old), for the past two days the DVD drive refuses to read any media - CDs/DVDs. I've done extensive and exhaustive searches to find a solution to this problem but to no avail. One of the most common problems I have come across is a software conflict with iTunes (installed on my machine) and a solution which states deleting "LowerFilters" and "UpperFilters" from the registry. I have tried this out but have not been succcessful in solving the problem. Also, the drive is listed in the Device Manager.
Just for the record, I have not updated/added/deleted any CD recording software or any other software. I have not even updated iTunes for the past two months.
    I'm using Win 7 64-bit OEM.
Can someone shed some light on this issue? Will appreciate.

  • My ENVY 17 3D's Bluray drive does not read any disc.

    I got a refurbished ENVY 17 3D (i7 740Q) and having a bluray drive issue.
When I insert a disc in to the drive it keeps spitting the disc out after a few seconds. And I can't hear any motor spinning sound. It's weird, I mean at least it should be reading the disc then spit it out, on the other hand it do exist in my SYSTEM. I didn't have a single burning CD software installed but I did install an iTunes. Should I return it to HP?

Anyone has solution to this, before I decided to send it to HP for repair?
I tried the Optical Drive Diagnostic using HP support assistant, but since the drive keep ejecting the media (CD/DVD/BR) for testing, I can't complete the diagnostic. I uninstalled and reinstalled with the latest drive update, still the same problem, even with the latest BIOS update.
I even went with a complete system recovery reboot and still can't solve the problem. The BR drive worked fine since it's recognized by the system, and Windows does not show any error. So why does it keep ejecting the CD/DVD/BR?
This happened out of the blue btw, so I have no clue what caused the problem. It was working fine like moments ago.

  • CD/DVD-drive does not read/write properly

I can not write any dvds or cds because every time a message pops up with an error.
I tried different burning programs with different cd manufacturers and it still does not seem to be a problem on other computers having the same program and using same cds or dvds.
Another thing is that it can not read dvds all the time; same dvd can work once but not again and whenever i try to open a normal cd-r it says blank disc even when they work perfectly on other computers?
    can anyone plz help

hey ..ok im on a toshiba laptop SA50-543 usind windows XP home edition..the dvd/cd thing is built in and is a DVD rewritabl CD rewritable multiple recorder.
as for the programs i used for burning..i tried nero, sonic record now and the one im on now is roxio easy media creator
as for the error msg it says:
there was a problem writing to the disc.you can try again by clicking the retry button.you will need another blank disc ready.
    further info:
    Recording error
Recording errors can occur when a disc contains dirt, fingerprints, or scratches.
If you are getting recording errors:
    Try using a new disc.
Try using a different manufacturer??s disc.
Ensure the disc is clean before recording:
Remove all fingerprints, dirt, and dust from the shiny side of your disc using a nonabrasive cloth with a mild, nonabrasive soap solution.
Wipe the disc from the center to the edge.
    Dry the disc completely.
tried doing all of that and still not recording..and anyway if it was aproblem with the cds why would they work fine on other laptops?
i dont know which other info you need so let me know if theres anything else
Oh yeah, theres an advanced explanation for the recording error but its all in numbers do you need to know that?
    thx
