Disk Error When Verifying with Disk Utility
I have a macbook pro intel with osx 10.4.8. I'm having trouble putting stuff into and emptying the trash so i tried the mac os disk utility. when i verified it i got the following error message
Verifying volume “Macintosh HD”
Checking HFS Plus volume.
Checking Extents Overflow file.
Checking Catalog file.
Invalid sibling link
The volume Macintosh HD needs to be repaired.
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit
1 HFS volume checked
Volume needs repair
The disk repair button remained grayed out so i couldn't perform the repair. any ideas?
You're in troubles. :-/
You can try another disk utility, but basically, the best to do, first, is a low-level formatting (format with the "zero data" option checked).
If it finish that, then reinstall a system and go ahead (keep backups up to date tho)
If it does not, you will have to get the hard disk changed.
Why reward points ?

External hard drives UNMOUNT when verifying with disk utility
I have two external Lacie hard drives attached to my iMac. One is just for general backup purposes. The other is for Time Machine.
Today when I got home, for some reason the Time Machine drive was not appearing on my desktop. I rebooted the computer, the Time Machine drive reappeared, I ran a back up, everything seemed to be working fine.
To make sure the disk was ok - I ran disk utility. When I selected "verify drive" from disk utility - the disk suddenly UNMOUNTED itself, at the point of cataloging the hard drive, and the verification process stalled. What was originally a 1 minute verification suddenly changed to a 17 minute, then a 33 minute, etc.
I tried booting up in recovery mode (Command -R at startup) and the same thing happened. Are the drives going bad?Actually - I think when disk utility verifies the disk - disk utility itself actually "unmounts" the disk during the verification process. Probably so the disk cannot be accessed by anything else but disk utility.
I feel sort of silly, because what I thought was "stalling" was really just the disk utility going through its proper verification of the catalog file, multi-linked file, directories, etc. -
Invalid node structure error when verifying hard disk, please help
My 27" Mid 2011 iMac is having hard disk issues. I attempted to repair the disk but received an error that said the disk cannot be repaired and needs to be re-formatted. I have all my files backed up to an external hard drive so I erased and formatted the disk. After reformatting, I ran the verify disk function and got the message saying the HD appears to working properly. I reload OSX Lion and within a day, my computer freezes up and acts as if something is wrong. When I run the verify disk, I get the Invalid Node Structure error multiple times and then the message saying the disk cannot be repaired and I need to reformat the drive. I have completed this process several times and have had no luck. I have looked at a few forums with people who have had somewhat similar problems but am still unsure. I have seen people recommend programs like Disk Warrior to repair issues the hard disk utility cannot but I don't want to spend $100 dollars on this program if my hard disk is damaged and needs to be replaced. Any suggestions? Thank you

No Disk error when syncing with iTunes
Whenever I sync my iPod Classic with iTunes, I get an error message saying "there is no disk in drive, please insert disk into drive E: (my dvd drive)". The sync succeeds, but I need to dismiss the message a few times. Has anyone seen this and know how to stop it?

Slow Disk error when using Finale Cut
I get a slow disk error when trying to play something in finale cut but when i try to verify disk and repair disk i get Error: Could not unmount disk. What is going on and how do i fix it?
You have to boot from a DVD or external OS to fix the Disk. You can't unmount a disk that is currently hosting your operating system.

Weird Error When Verifying External HDDs
Hello
I'm getting a weird error when verifying my 2 external HDDs. Both give me an "invalid leaf record count" error. But only when I check them with the OSX install cd. If I check them in my user account, they come up OK. Both drives also gave me a "reserved fields in the catalog record have incorrect data" error. Disk Utility was able to fix that error, but not the invalid leaf error. I have tried multiple repairs, but DU says the volume cannot be repaired. The other weird thing is when I ran the first repair, it said 1 HFS Volume Repaired and 1 Volume could not be repaired. I have also tried using Disk Warrior, but it gives a "this volume appears to be formatted with a newer version of the OS" error.
Both these drives I had plugged into my mom's iMac (running 10.5--my eMac is running 10.3.9) because I had firewire problems back in June. Did 10.5 modify something that has 10.3 mixed up?
Is there something I can do to fix this or do I need to do another re-install?
Music Luver
"+I hear her playing music+..." ~ Barry ManilowOS X 10.5 does add additional attributes bits to the file descriptors, so using the drive under 10.5 would be expected to add those additional bits to at least the disk directory plus any modified files.
When you then check the drives using utilities created prior to OS X 10.5, those older utilities don't understand the additional bits and report then as errors (DU), of the utilities check first and refuse to run if the disk is tagged as from a latter OS version (DW).
There's a generic warning about mixing older utilities with newer OS versions in Only use Mac OS X 10.4-compatible disk utilities with Mac OS X 10.4 volumes.
I'd be ready to shrug the error reports off as spurious; however, that DU "corrected" the reserved bits suggests the drive directories will be rewritten again should you again move the drives to a 10.5 computer. Are you seeing any actual problems wiuth reading or writing to the external drives? If not, write it off to 10.5 settings bits that earlier versions ignore; it shouldn't affect your data. -

Pragma error when compiling with SDK X
Hi,
I am trying to compile my plugin application (which compiled fine with the previous sdk) using the SDK X, but receive errors in CAVAlert.h on the exception handler construct DURING, HANDLER, END_HANDLER.
The errors are listed here:
Headers/API/CAVAlert.h:156:3: error: 'suppress' was not declared in this scope
Headers/API/CAVAlert.h:156:3: error: 'warning' was not declared in this scope
Headers/API/CAVAlert.h:156:3: error: '__pragma' was not declared in this scope
Headers/API/CAVAlert.h:156:3: error: expected ';' before 'jmp_buf'
Headers/API/CAVAlert.h:156:3: error: 'ASException' was not declared in this scope
Headers/API/CAVAlert.h:156:3: error: expected ')' before ':' token
Headers/API/CAVAlert.h:156:3: error: expected ';' before 'struct'
Headers/API/CAVAlert.h:162:3: error: request for member 'E_RETURNOutsideDURINGBlock' in 'gBadReturnCatcher', which is of non-class type 'int'
Headers/API/CAVAlert.h:162:3: error: expected ')' before ':' token
Headers/API/CAVAlert.h:162:3: error: expected ';' before 'int'
Headers/API/CAVAlert.h:165:3: error: 'ENDHANDLEROutsideHANDLER' was not declared in this scope
To compile against to SDK X all I did was:
1) Used PIMain.c from the SDK X API directory.
2) Changed ACRO_SDK_LEVEL=0x00090000 => ACRO_SDK_LEVEL=0x000A0000
3) Changed the include directories to point to the new SDK X directories
Is there another directive I must add to get the plugin to compile with SDK X?
My preprocessor list is as follows:
ACRO_SDK_LEVEL=0x000A0000
HAVE_W32API_H
PDMETADATA_HFT=1
PLUGIN=1

IDoc_02_Error passing data to port-Communication error when sending with HTTP
Hello All,
We are receiving the error "02_Error passing data to port-Communication error when sending with HTTP", when sending the idoc to PI from ECC system.
Observation:
1. Some idocs are failing and immediately after sometime the same type of idocs with different idoc numbers are getting successful.
Eg: Orders. One purchase order is failing at one point of time. later another purchase order is getting successful after some time to the same partner.
2. If i perform the reset of idoc, then it is getting delivered during next scheduled job run.
please help me in resolving the issue.
Regards,
Ch. Venkat.status 02 is Error passing data to port ...it simply means your port setting has some problem. do configure your port setting and also in partner profile

Disk Utility error when verifying DIY fusion drive
Hi,
It has been a while since I had to post a problem, but I need others advice on this if you can help. When 10.8.3 came out I installed an M4 512gb ssd in my main drive bay of 2008 unibody aluminium macbook and put a 1tb spinner in the optibay. Created a fusion drive, migrated data and all has been great. Decided to run disk utility today to check for any errors as I had a sleep issue with the 10.8.4 update which I ended up solving by changing the sleep settings in terminal - the issue had caused a few forced shutdowns. I have Disk Utitliy Version 13 (450). The Fusion drive is shown as the logical volume group followed by the volume disk. When I run a verify disk on the volume itself it is all ok:

Error: Incorrect size for logical volume.
I got the same when I did a safe boot and when rebooted from the recovery partition.y question is, do I repair or could it damage my setup? eg is Disk Utility being accurate and it can repair the error, or is it a phantom issue that should be ignored bearing in mind it's a DIY fusion drive and it could end up getting mashed?
Thanks!Hi,
The computer's running fine since I sorted the sleep issue. No issues as far as I can tell, which is why I was surprised to see the error. What does the error actually mean - is it saying that the volume is a different size than the computer thinks it should be and therefore it'll just change a few values? In which case I suppose a repair is harmless? I just don't want to repair and then reboot to find the volume corrupted. -
I got this error message when verifying the disk
The electricity in my apartment was abruptly shut down while I was using my imac. After I'd got all the electricity back on, I turn on my mac and found that when I verified the disk in disk utility I got this error message.

Can anyone help?? please.
NavinI'd stay away from disk warrior etc. Try disk utility.
DiskWarrior is not a disk repair program in the conventional sense. Instead of patching the original directory, it uses a patent-pending technology to quickly build a new replacement directory using data recovered from the original directory, thereby recovering files and folders that you thought were lost and that no other program could recover.
I've never had trouble with Journaled HFS+ volumes but if I did I try disk utility to repair. Then run fsck from single-user-mode. Then, if that failed I'd pull my data off and erase.
I've never had any persistent luck with norton type utilities, the problems always come back until I erase. -

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ***?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! there is no way of repairing the disk, and when I search for possible solutons it says I need to run it from the original osx installer disk, and even when it does not necessarily repir this error. besides the fact that the original cd is in atlanta and I am currently in barcelona, some say that I would need to reformat my drive and either way this might not solve the problem. I HAVE WAY TOO MUCH IMPORTANT INFORMATION on my macbook pro to reformat, and i do not have the money to buy an external hardrive, I A VERY UPSET, A BRAND NEW COMPUTER, LESS THAN TWO MONTHS OLD, AND ALREADY I HAVE THESE KIND OF PROBLEMS WITH IT, WHERE IS MY SUPPORT?! please tell me, what do i do? I expect a decent, viable slution to the problem. I need my computer ad the information in it, I work from it and also use it to produce music. why would I have this kind of problem, when I search for answers, everything relates to external hardrives, ..... this is my internal hard drive that I am talking about--- WHAT DO I DO?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!The available Apple centers in Spain are:

Perhaps, since you are under warranty, they may have a boot disk to attempt to run disk utility and see if the problem can be repaired before resorting to reformatting. Disk error may occur because of a number of issues (installed software, crashes, shutdowns, physical movement of the drive while disks spinning, etc.)
In addition you may want to boot in the single user mode to access the FSCK command as follows: The following is from the Apple support site
Mac OS X: How to Start up in Single-User or Verbose Mode
You may use a key combination when starting up the computer to enter single-user mode or verbose mode, either of which can be used for troubleshooting and in software development. This document applies to Mac OS X and Mac OS X Server versions 10.0 and later.
Steps to Enter Single-User or Verbose Mode
1. Shut down the computer if it is on.
2. Press the power button to start the computer.
3. Immediately press and hold the Command (Apple) key and one of the following:
the "s" key for single-user mode.
the "v" key for verbose mode.
4. To exit single-user mode type: reboot
5. Press Return.
You have successfully entered single-user or verbose mode when you see white text appear on the screen.
Then you may try to repair as follows using the FSCK
fsck is a command-line utility that may be able to verify and repair a disk. If you can successfully start up in Safe Mode or use Disk Utility while started up from a disc, you don't need to use fsck. However, here are some situations in which fsck may be necessary.
Your Mac OS X disc isn't available.
Your optical drive isn't available.
You can't start with a Safe Boot.
Tip: If you use a Mac OS X Extended (Journaled) formatted volume, such as with Mac OS X 10.3 or later, you probably won't need to use fsck. If you do use it for any reason, please be aware that benign error messages can appear.
If you're not sure how your volume is formatted and you can't start up from your Mac OS X volume to find out, type the following command in a command-line interface and then press Return: diskutil info /
If you see "File System: Journaled HFS+" returned, you have a Journaled volume.
To use fsck, you must run it from the command line. Unlike using your mouse to open an application to do something, you'll need to type a text command at the prompt (#) to tell fsck what to do. The Terminal application (/Applications/Utilities) and single-user mode are two examples of command-line interfaces in which you can type such commands. To use fsck:
Start up your computer in single-user mode to reach the command line.
Note: If necessary, perform a forced restart as described in the Emergency Troubleshooting Handbook that came with your computer. On desktop computers, you can do this by pressing the reset/interrupt button (if there is one) or holding down the power button for several seconds. On portable computers, simultaneously press the Command-Control-power keys. If your portable computer doesn't restart with this method, you may need to reset the Power Manager.
At the command-line prompt, type /sbin/fsck -fy
Press Return. fsck will go through five "phases" and then return information about your disk's use and fragmentation. Once it finishes, it'll display this message if no issue is found:
** The volume (nameofvolume) appears to be OK
If fsck found issues and has altered, repaired, or fixed anything, it will display this message:
*** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED ***
Important: If this message appears, repeat the fsck command you typed in step 2 until fsck tells you that your volume appears to be OK (first-pass repairs may uncover additional issues, so this is a normal thing to do).
When fsck reports that your volume is OK, type reboot at the prompt and then press Return.
Your computer should start up normally and allow you to log in.
About live verification in Mac OS X 10.4.3 or later
In Mac OS X 10.4.3 or later, you can verify your Mac OS X volume while started from it. This is known as live verification, and can be used in three different ways.
Option 1: Verify your disk using Disk Utility while started from the startup disk. To find out how to do this, see this article. Please note that live verification does not involve any disk repair, so if verification finds something that should be repaired, start up from your Mac OS X Install disc and use Disk Utility as described above in "Try Disk Utility."
Option 2 (advanced): Use the command line and the command-line utility, diskutil.
Start up your computer and log in as an administrator.
Open Terminal (/Applications/Utilities).
At the prompt, type the following command and then press Return:
diskutil verify /
Note: Don't use this method to check non-startup volumes.
You should see messages such as the following during the disk check:
Could not unmount disk for verification, attempting live verify
Started verify/repair on volume disk0s3 Macintosh HD
Checking HFS Plus volume.
Checking Extents Overflow file.
Checking Catalog file.
Checking multi-linked files.
Checking Catalog hierarchy.
Checking Extended Attributes file.
Checking volume bitmap.
Checking volume information.
The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK.
Mounting Disk
Verify/repair finished on volume disk0s3 Macintosh HD
Option 3 (advanced): Use the command line and the fsck_hfs -l command.
Start up your computer and log in as an administrator.
Open Terminal (/Applications/Utilities).
At the prompt, type the following command and then press Return to determine your filesytem ID:
df -hl
Look for some lines of text that look like this:
Filesystem Size Used Avail Capacity Mounted on
/dev/disk0s3 37G 20G 17G 55% /
/dev/disk0s5 37G 37G 641M 98% /Volumes/Storage
Make a note of the first "disk" name that appears after /dev/, such as "disk0s3." This is your filesystem ID for your startup volume.
At the prompt, type the following command and then press Return:
df -hl
Then type the following command, where "disk0s3" is your filesystem ID you noted in step 4, then press Return:
sudo fsck_hfs -l /dev/disk0s3
When prompted, enter your admin password, then press Return to begin the verification.
You should see messages like these during the disk check:
** /dev/rdisk0s3 (NO WRITE)
** Root file system
** Checking HFS Plus volume.
** Checking Extents Overflow file.
** Checking Catalog file.
** Checking multi-linked files.
** Checking Catalog hierarchy.
** Checking Extended Attributes file.
** Checking volume bitmap.
** Checking volume information.
** The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK.
Additional Information
If you're interested in UNIX-style command-line syntax, here's a look at how a couple of flags used in our instruction can influence fsck:
The -y flag: Tells fsck that you want to answer "yes" to all questions about fixing, repairing, or salvaging information. This is the optimal approach, as answering "no" to any question causes fsck to stop. You cannot determine that all necessary repairs have been made until fsck completes and gives its final report.
The -f flag: Forces fsck to check "clean" filesystems when preening.

My external Lacie Quadra hard drive accidentally switched off in the middle of "erase free space", and when I switched it back on Disk Utility was hanging. So I Force Quit Disk Utility and restarted it. Now when I try to erase I get
"Secure Disk Erase failed with the error: Couldn’t unmount disk."
But "erase free space" seems to work...
What can I do? I'm erasing as I'm giving the drive to someone else and I wanted to wipe it clean.
Also should I use "erase" or "erase free space" if I want to wipe the drive clean?
Please help!Sorry I don't really understand.... there are no partitions on the drive. How do I repartition it?
And should I use "erasing free space" or "erase" for wiping clean my drive of everything? Erase seems to be faster last tiem I tried.
Thanks! -
I recently tried to upgrade my macbook pro OSX to mountain lion via the app store. When it tried to install it gives me a disk error. I have run disk utilities and repaired, verified etc. but it makes no difference. I am running bootcamp as well and have tried to modifiy the partition sizes in disk utilities, but it says for both that they cannot be modified. I can switch my startup disk and reboot in windows, no problem, so getting my files off isnt the issue. I have also tried to recover the hard disk using time machine which i was lucky enough to backup the day before it all went wrong. However, time machine runs fine until it asks me which disk to recover and it gives me an option of the time machine disk or bootcamp, but no option for my mac partition. So, I have tried everything that makes snese, but getting errors with disks lock, cant repartition, disk error needs repair (which i know is not true, its only because of the Mountain Lion OSX that its messed up). Any ideas?
You have some other problem with your boot drive that has corrupted data backed up to the TimeMacine drive.
My advice is to boot into each operating system and manually backup just your Users files each to separate regular external drives (no Timemachine or backup software) and disconnect.
Make a note of any serial numbers, emails, address book contacts, export bookmarks etc. that isn't typically in your users folders data.
You might be able to Winclone 3 the Windows as a whole thing as it's appearing not to have issues but it's your MacintoshHD partition that is so that will have to be rebuilt from scratch.
Most commonly used backup methods
If your OS X parititon doesn't boot, you can use this to recover files.
Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive
Without any further detail about your machine I can't advise specifically what to do, but it involves using Disk Utility to Zero Erase (move slider one spot to the right or in 10.6 using Security Option) the ENTIRE boot drive and reformatting, then installing OSX fresh and then setting up BootCamp again.
If you wish to switch your boot drive for something better, this is a good time to do this.
Install/upgrade RAM or storage drive in Mac's
If your machine is capable of Internet Recovery, then use that, then upgrade.
If your machine came with 10.6 or earlier, then use the 10.6 install disks and work up from there.
Erase, formatting, OS X installs on Mac's

Charging Status Stuck On MacBook Pro
So I had my MacBook Pro charging, and it said it was on 59%. For some reason, it had been stuck at 59% for a while. I highlighted the power readout in the menu bar, and it said 20:00 until full. I unplugged the charging cable and plugged it back in,
