Disk failed to burn because of "media write error"

I've been trying to burn CDs on itunes and three times I have gotten an error message saying that the process filed because of a media write error. I've tried slowing down the writing to 16, but that didn't help.

i am having the same problem.. did you try making sure you're not burning from the main library???

  • IPhoto 8 fails to burn photos, claims medium write error

What is going on? I have tried 3 types of DVD's, my dvd player plays movies (assuming this means its o.k.) and yet I am unable to copy my photos to a DVD. Will not burn and ejects dvd and says "medium write error" whatever that is. Help.

my dvd player plays movies (assuming this means its o.k.)
Not necessarily. It indicates that it can read but can't write, at least not from iPhoto. Can you burn anything from the Finder? If not then you might consider using a drive cleaning disk.
If you can burn from the Finder log into another account, as see if iPhoto can successfully burn from there. Report back with the results.
Have you rebooted lately? Have you repaired permissions with Disk Utility? If you haven't run the maintenance scripts recently you might try the following: run OnyX and run the Auto mode to clean out the various caches and run the maintenance scripts as shown in this screenshot:

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: iPhoto 8's new option in the library rebuild pane, "Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" may make this tip obsolete. We'll know when users have occasion to use it and see if that's the case.

  • Disk cant be burned because my laptop failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media

Tries to burn some files onto a CD-RW and I got this error message. The disk cant be burned because my device failed to calibrate the laser power level for the media

    Hi David,
Mac SuperDrives are notoriously picky about the discs they'll play nicely with. Looks like your's is one of those. FWIW, I've had many more problems with RW discs than regular ones. I'd try another brand of regular disc.

  • I got a message while burning a CD.  "The Attempt to Burn the disc failed because of medium write error"..what does this mean?

i got this message while buring a CD on itunes.   "The Attemp to burn the disc failed because of medium write error"..what do you make of this?
i think the CD was bad.   i took the machine to the Apple store and they said the Optical Drive was OK.   so it must be the CD's i'm using... i use Verbatim type.   let me know.

'Mediium write error' means it failed to write to the disc - some makes work better than others and you may just have hit a single bad disc or maybe your burner doesn't like the make of disc. I've always had good results with TDK.

  • I am unable to burn mp3 audio files to cd.I have tried different speeds but every time it ays failed due to media write error. Can anyone help what to do?

I am unable to burn mp3 audio files to cd.Every time it says failed due to media write error.I have tried different speeds. Can anyone help pls?

There are several different incompatible media sold as writeable CDs. You MUST match the media to the abilities of your drive.
I was flummoxed by buying 8x media when my drive was a 2x drive. I needed the other type, and there was nothing helpful in the diagnostics or the packaging that helped me understand that.
EDIT: There is an interesting helpful feature buried in System Profiler ... (read the last two lines of the report):

  • Media write error for dual layer DVD burn

I am having a problem burning a dmg to a dual layer DVD using the internal DVD writer. I have tried both Disk Utility and SimplyBurns.
Both program s go through the preparation for the file, and when it attempts to burn the disk I get a 'media write error'. I am using Memorex DVD +R DL disks. I have successfully burned both CDs and regular DVDs with the drive.
Does anyone have a suggestion on how I can fix this?
    Thanks

I am using Memorex DVD +R DL disks.
    Try Verbatim DVD+R DL discs.

  • Media write error since upgrade to mountain lion

9 out of 10 burns result in "failed due to a media write error" since upgrading to Mountail lion.  Have also used a wet system cleaning disc that usually does the trick for my CD players.  Have tried much slower write speeds - no help there.

    Hello there Chamie7,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities
I would recommend this troubleshooting from the article OS X Mountain Lion: If an error message appears while you’re burning a CD or DVD found here http://support.apple.com/kb/PH10868
Use blank discs that are rated for the burn speed of your drive, or consider using a different brand of disc.
Specify a burn speed that is lower than the maximum speed rating for your optical drive.
Quit all open apps you’re not using.
Restart your computer and try burning the disc again.
If your startup disk is nearly full, try to free up space on it. The amount of free space on the startup disk needs to be greater than the amount of data you’re burning. Erase unnecessary files. Back up files you don’t use often, and then remove them.
Repair your startup disk with Disk Utility. For more information, see this topic in Disk Utility Help:Repair a disk
If needed you may also want to reset the SMC on the computer as well.

  • "Quicktime Streaming failed to load because of an unknown error"

iTunes and Quicktime will not load, install, or uninstall because of at some point the popup message "Quicktime Streaming failed to load because of an unknown error" appears. Succesive reboots and removal of SpyBot (which may have denied access to Quicktime because of a registry setting, which of course may still be the cause of the problem...) have not fixed the problem. Any ideas?

I have struggled with the same problem for the last few years and could not find any adequate answers. Being a person who likes to run his PC clean and mean, I had stopped all those Apple Itunes / Quicktime applets and deleted Itunes application as I preferred other Media players & converters. Recently my Nokia 6300 phone suite would send me the same error every song I moved from PC to phone. The clue was that I had chosen Optimised AAC format instead of stock standard MP3. Working on this hunch, I re-activated Apple's Software Update from the Scheduled Tasks items of Control Panel to update Quicktime, Itunes and Safari. Now I have AppleMobileDeviceService.exe, iPodService.exe, iTunesHelper.exe all running and I do not get the error anymore. There is also the Bonjour (DNSResponder.exe) service to be considered. See:-

  • Essbase Administration Console error "failed to create client directory to write error file"

I am getting the following error while trying to load data using EAS v11.1.2.3
"failed to create client directory to write error file"
Any known root cause for this.

Check the default error directory while loading data? The error file in 11.1.2.2 points to C:\Oracle\Middleware\EPMSystem11R1\products\Essbase\eas\client, which is already on the system where EAS is installed.
If the folder is not there then it is a bug, however you can change it to an existing path.

  • Burn failed because of "Medium Write Error."

I've got a early '08 Macbook Pro running OSX 10.5.8 and iLife '09.
I'm trying to burn a tracked podcast to a CD, and after getting through all the mixdowns and normalizing, it will burn for a short while and will "finish" the burn, eject the CD and come up with a "Burn Failed" message that says,
"The burn to the MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-867 drive failed. The burn failed because of a medium write error."
This problem has just recently developed. I've done this many times in the past, but the last few CDs I've tried to burn have taken me four or five tries until I get a successful burn. I'm tired of wasting my CD-Rs!
My drive reads both CDs and DVDs without a problem, and burns through iTunes without a problem.
What's going on? Can I do anything to fix this?

    UPDATE!!!
On suspicion as I am camera geek, (film maker)
I know dust can do weird things, I took the blank part of the disc container, you know, usually solid color or clear and cut it into a gun shape and wrapped it in one of my fiber fine lens cloth.
I gently inserted it to knock some dust loose, (think optical eye) be careful not to twist or shove to hard if resistance is met. did the old nintendo blow in the drive fromt the side and prayed.
Went back to FCPX and re-shared to disc and....... Voila!!
    Burned several discs already.
Good luck if you have this.
I suspect the dust from my over amped fans due to SMC fan control could have blown dust or hair on the optic and prevented it, (this is where apple listens close)
Please advixe your "techs" to suggest compressed air or disc cleaners..although my disc cleaner did nothing.

  • Media write error (0x0C,0x00.) is preventing me from publishing..HELP!

Projects updated from DVD Studio 3 won't
write. I remade project completely in DVDSP4 but
    get same error.
How do I check for bad assets????

    Hi
It sounds like a media (burning) error, not related with your project design. Try first building your project to your hard drive , or even better, * Creating Disc Image in DVDSP * that you can mount and test with DVD Player. If it works fine, try burning using Toast or Disk Utility like the tutorial shows. DVDSP uses to be too much sensitive to media and you cannot change buyrning speed.
You can read * about quality media * and try with another first quality brand.
    Hope that helps !

  • Can't burn a cd, "medium write error"

So I have a 2.2GHz Macbook Pro 15", and I just tried to burn a cd this morning for my car, and I got this error:
    http://i29.tinypic.com/e1f952.jpg
I restarted and tried again, same thing. So I turned it off and went to work, and tried it again when I got home, and same error again. I really doubt it's the disks, since I've tried several from the spindle, and its the same disks I've used many, many times. (Memorex CD-R)
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Ok, I'm having the same issue with my MacBook Pro 2.4 ghz intel. It's NOT the media. Memorex is a cheap, but still solid brand. Why else would they sell them regularly? Basically, it could be one of a few things. First, try cleaning your laser with a phillips or Memorex brand DVD laser Lens cleaner disc. Despite what others have said, this will NOT hurt your laser, as these are intended FOR computers. be careful about using cheap "knock-off" brands though. In most cases, you'll need to clean it more than once to get discs burning again. Mine started off by only burning dvds 1/2 the time, and that ratio has quickly dropped... If cleaning doesn't work, then you may actually have something wrong with the DVD-drive. Macbook's "superdrives" are actually pretty unstable (especially for the cost of the computer). For example, have you ever tried to pick up or move your computer while it's burning something... it sounds like a plane crashing! ANyway, try cleaning and I'll be doing the same as of tomorrow, let me know.

  • Can anyone help with this error msg "The disc can't be burned because an unexpected error occurred (error code 0x8002006E)." ?

I was also getting the message telling me it is a medium problem however that has changed more to the  latest 0x8002006E one.
I use to be able to record all the time on DVD-R, then all of a sudden that has stopped and get
The dic can't be burned because of a unexpected error 0x8002006E.
I have looked at most of the discussions on this subject, I have also done most of what people have suggested, nothing has worked so far.
I am able to record music on cd's, I am able to record on DVD-RW, I can't however record on DVD -R anymore and have tried three different brands.
I have gone through about 30 or more discs trying to fix this problem so any help right now would be great.

-1 from OpsSqlExecuteNonQuery() means an Oracle error which in your case is "TNS Packet Writer Error". This error can happen for a number of reasons. You need to provide a complete test case along with environment information to reproduce this issue.

    Hi mdfrancois;
The lasers used in optical drives gradually lose power. Some more rapidly then others. If the output is too low then the optical drive would be classified as marginal.
