Disk failure on Satellite L750

My wife's Satellite L750 HDD appeared to have failed so being an enthusiastic amateur computer enthusiast, I have successfully built a number of PCs, I took the HDD out tried to reformat it and install a copy of Windows 7. I previously ascertained that the recovery software on the laptop wasn't working.
Before installing Windows 7 I tried to get rid of the partitions on the HDD and whilst I couldn't get rid of them all I did manage to reduce them. I formatted the re-constituted HDD and tried to load Windows 7 which appeared to work but when I came to use the laptop I had no drivers and no way of installing them as I had no internet access. I am now left with a blank HDD and I was contemplating buying a Recovery Disk form Toshiba.
My question is will it work or will I have to take the laptop to an authorised dealer?

When you order original recovery installations disc you can install recovery image alone. You don't need help from ASP.
Recovery image can be ordered on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx
When you get recovery image start your notebook and press F12 to enter boot menu. When the boot menu is shown on the screen put recovery disc into optical disc drive. Choose CD/DVD on the list and press ENTER button. Recovery installation will start and all you must do is to follow menu on the screen.

  • Toshiba Satellite L650-07U, Hard disk failure and replacement

    Hi all,
I have Toshiba Satellite L650-07U Laptop, Model: PSK1EC-0700Q with 4GB RAM, 650GB HD, Windows 7 Home Premium installed. At the time of first use, i made Recovery DVDs which took 4 blank DVDs using Recovery media creator.
From 2 weeks it is giving problem, at start its slowdown with every application,  then suddenly it started Hard disk failure error and ask to backup important files. From that instant i did all my backup save in another portable Hard drive.
I had hiren boot CD, and ran RAM test and found it OK, and then run Hard Disk test and found few bad sectors at few certain point, As 650GB Hard disk was taking alot time of time for checking bad sectors, so i stopped that application.
First I tried Recovery DVDs to restore Windows, but it failed as Laptop DVD-Writer was unable to boot from those created DVDs (DVDs are OK as had checked it on Desktop computer DVD-ROM), Laptop DVD-Writer is also working as I test few more bootable CDs and it booted perfectly, but it is not booting from Recovery DVDs.
Than i tried to restore from Recovery partition using Factory restore settings, it erases all data and reinstall new and fresh copy of Windows 7 Home Premium. It works fine for few hours than again pops up Hard Disk Failure message again and again. I searched here in Toshiba Forum and have found similar problem with other members and finally decided that it need to replace Hard Disk with new one. As It is now two and a half month old, thats why i need to buy new Hard Disk for my Laptop.
I checked all partitions of drive using Hiren Boot CD, and had found that there are four default partitions in Toshiba original laptop drive,
One hidden partition of 1.5 GB
One hidden partition of almost 21 GB
One hidden partition of almost 12 GB
One partition of 561 GB, which was the original partition where windows 7 was installed along with all of my Data.
Now I want to replace faulty drive with a new one and have a lot of question in my mind which I need to share with you guys.
At the time of first use I installed Windows 7 64 bit edition, and made Recovery DVDs, and at second time of restore to factory setting I had installed Windows 7 32 bit. I have confusion about recovery DVDs (which is not booting from default DVD-Writer of Laptop), either it has 64 Bit recovery data or 32 bit? Or have both 64 and 32 bit Data.
Toshiba restore to factory setting without using any recovery DVD/USB is the best possible way to restore Windows 7, How can I make same recover hidden partitions from original/faulty hard drives to new hard drive partitions? Is this possible and how?
On Default hard drive there was one partition of 561GB instead of two or more partitions. Is this possible to split partitions in new hard drives instead of one big partition?
As Recovery DVDs are not able to boot from laptop default DVD-Writer, is it possible to open those DVDs on another System and copy tem in USB drive and use it for booting? If it is possible than please show me the steps for making bootable USB from these Recovery DVDs.
    Thanks,
    masterleous

This site is for US computers. I doubt you'll get your questions for that Canadian model answered here.
There appear to be two recovery partitions. Maybe one for 32- and one for 64-bit Windows. Or maybe one is for English and the other for French.
Your User's Manual isn't much help either. You probably need to ask Toshiba tech support in Canada.
About all I have to offer is this: Be wary of drives with advanced-format technology. See my message about that.

  • Hard disk failure E105-S1802 Satellite

My Satellite E105-S1802 is reporting a hard disk failure. This is basically a new laptop that I only use for typing documents and searching internet. Why is it already having hard disk problems? I'm currently in school and need this laptop everday.

hdd will fail early or late in their lives. back up all of your info onto an external hdd or cd/dvd immediatly. if your hdd fails and you didnt back it up you will lose everything forever. toshiba will cover the cost under warranty if you are still in the first year. toshiba will replace it and will not save your old one or the data on it so it is your resposibility to back it up before you send it.

  • Satellite A215-S7414 Hard Disk Failure

Hi. I purchased my laptop 16 months ago and this is the third time I have had hard Disk Failure. The first two times were in the first year and I received a new harddrive after sending it in to Depot for repair. Here we are the Third time and now Im outta warranty and apparently outta luck. Here are my many questions, first of all I didnt have the opportunity to back anything up, so if I were to replace the Hdd on my own, does that mean I would also have to purchase a new Vista package? Also, I have a Western Digital External harddrive that Im not using.....would that be of any assistance to me in trying to recover anything from the laptop?
Everyone tells me it is cheaper to just get a new one, but that isnt practical and I dont want to just trash a laptop that is only 16 months old.
    Please help
    Thank you
    Model #PSAFGU0IU002

I'll try to answer the questions you've asked.  First, you don't need to buy a new Vista package.  You should call Toshiba customer service at (800) 457-7777 and order a set of recovery disks for your notebook.  They will want the serial number and a credit card to cover the shipping and handling ($19.95 standard, $24.95 overnight).  The recovery disks will restore the system to 'as-shipped' condition with all of the appropriate drivers and utilties.  You can purchase a replacement drive reasonably from any number of sources.  Replacing the hard drive is straightforward.  You would remove the cover from the bottom, slide the drive out and transfer the hard drive 'caddy' to the new drive.  Slip it in, boot from the recovery disks and away you go.  You could install the old drive in an external USB housing and see if you can recover anything from it.  I can't think of a role for your current external drive other than as additional storage.

  • Satellite L750 will not open path

    I have a new Satellite L750.
I am trying to do a course on my computer which I have purchased the disc for.
The course has paths to click on that are to link up with the files downloaded from the disc supplied to a folder in WINDOWS (C:) Program Files(x86).
The problem I am getting is that the path fails and a warning window comes up saying the path file can not be found, On looking at the file information on the warning window, it appears that the file has been doubled to include an extra WINDOWS (C:) Program Files(x86) so it reads: C:\Program Files(x86)\C:\Program Files(x86)\...........................
So obviously it will not find the file.
Why is it doing this, and how can I cure it.
It would make doing the course so much easier.
I have contacted the course provider and they are not sure why this is happening.
Also what is the difference between Program Files and Program Files(x86) folders.
    Anybody got a clue.

    > Why is it doing this, and how can I cure it.
Do you really think that this is a problem with a computer or Windows system software?
    I doubt.
Firstly I would trying to copy the content of the disk to the new created folder.
Then go to this folder and check if there is a file like autostart or index which needs to be started firstly.
    > Also what is the difference between Program Files and Program Files(x86) folders.
    The difference is simply:
I assume you are using Windows 64bit so Program Files refers to the 64bit programs and Program Files(x86) folder refers to 32bit applications.

  • Is it possible to upgrade GPU on my Satellite L750?

    I have a Satellite L750,Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit,Intel Core i3-380M Processor,640 GB in hard disk,4,096 MB DDR3 RAM (1,066 MHz),Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD.
I'm sure by now you know why i want to upgrade my graphic card, everything is good except my graphic card, this is like a nightmare to me because now i can't keep on playing the games i used to,which are so many,so if an expert reads this thread, please help me.
Is there anything I can do?
Any advice or suggestion would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

GPU upgrade is not supported and cannot be done. Due to specific design and hardware configuration hardware upgrade is very limited.
Graphic card with more power produce more heat and that is the main problem by mobile machines. Cooling system designed for your notebook is optimized for certain graphic card.

  • A10 Hard disk failure and replacement - How do I use Recovery Disks?

I have a Satellite Pro A10 which has suffered a hard disk failure. I have replaced the hard disk drive (with a non-toshiba drive) but cannot load the operating sysytem etc from the recovery disks supplied with the computer when new. When starting the computer up with recovery disk No 1 in the CD drive I get the message "Invalid system disk, Replace the disk and then press any key" Any suggestions as to the remedy would be most welcome.

    Hello Tony
Please check at first if your new HDD is properly recognized by BIOS. It yes you should prepare the HDD for installation. I recommend you to use some tool and make a partition on new HDD. If you want you can format it before you start the installations procedure.
I am pretty sure that after that the recovery installation can be done successfully.
    Bye

  • Satellite L750 turns on and off by itself using Linux

Today I have experienced some strange behaviour on my notebook. It unexpectedly shuts down, after showing a dialog window saying "Your computer will shut down in 60 seconds". And then, when I turn it back on, it just shuts down before booting and it turns back on by itself after a few seconds.
It does not overheat, the CPU temp is normally between 50-60C (I constantly monitor it using Conky). Also, someone told me to upgrade the BIOS, so I did it, but the problem still persists. I have also tried to replace the RAM and run a memcheck, but everything looks fine on the memory side.
I use linux, and had a look on "/var/log/syslog", but I'm not sure I know exactly what to look for. The messages logged before shutting down don't seem to describe anything suspicious.
I use Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, but it seems the problem is more hardware related and I would like to investigate what causes it to shut down so randomly. The same thing happens on Windows, but there's no warning before shutting down.
My notebook is a Toshiba Satellite L750-11w.
Any clues would be highly appreciated.

    >I use Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, but it seems the problem is more hardware related and I would like to investigate what causes it to shut down so randomly. The same thing happens on Windows, but there's no warning before shutting down.
You checked the notebook functionality using Windows system but did you use the Toshiba recovery disk and did you test it using factory settings?
Im wondering about the message: your computer will shut down in 60 seconds
If it would be an hardware problem, then the notebook would shut down without any warning messages.
Therefore I assume there must be an software issue I guess some setting triggers this automatic shut down.
But to be honest i have no idea what setting could be
If you think its hardware related problem, I guess only an notebook technician would be able to help you.

  • Satellite L750-170 Windows 7 Stereo Mix Not Appearing

    Hi,
I've been looking for ages on how to enable my Stereo Mix and I just can't get it up...
I've installed the latest driver for my 'Conexant SmartAudio HD', clicked the 'Show Disabled Devices' and the 'Show Disconnected Devices' and I still end up with no Stereo Mix showing. I've got Stereo Mix on my XP, Vista and my other Windows 7 PC before and I really don't know why it won't work on this.
    Please Help!!
    Thanks

    *I found a solution!*
Stereo Mix is a sound device for recording music from you computer.
It is very useful for marketing purpose.
However, it is usually missing in most Toshiba computers.
Here is how to get it back.
This solution worked for my Satellite L750.
    - Download the latest Conexant SmartAudio driver for your laptop downloadable at http://support.toshiba.com/.
    - Create a new folder (I created one on my Desktop) for the driver and extract the zipped driver files to it with WinRAR.
    - You should find a couple folders. Browse through them until you find the folder labeled W7-64/ W7-32, depending on whether you are using 32-bit or 64-bit.
There will be a .inf file inside. There should only be one file with that extension. Open it in Notepad.
    - Now search in notepad until you find this section:
    ;HKR,%EPattributePath%\EpSettings\PcBeepCtrlEnable ,Enable,1,01
    ;HKR,%EPattributePath%\EpSettings\PcBeepCtrlEnable ,EPname,1,01
    ;HKR,%EPattributePath%\EpSettings\PcBeepCtrlEnable ,DefGainSettings,1,00,07,00,07
    ;HKR,%EPattributePath%\EpSettings\PcBeepCtrlEnable ,MuteGainSettings,1,00,00
    ;HKR,%EPattributePath%\EpSettings\PcBeepCtrlEnable ,Flags,1,00
    ;HKR,%EPattributePath%\EpSettings\StereoMixEnable, Enable,1,01
    ;HKR,%EPattributePath%\EpSettings\StereoMixEnable, MixAssocSeq,1,E0,E0
    ;HKR,%EPattributePath%\EpSettings\StereoMixEnable, MuteGainSettings,1,00,00
Note the semi-colons in front of each line. Remove all the semi-colons so the 8 lines above read like this:
    HKR,%EPattributePath%\EpSettings\PcBeepCtrlEnable, Enable,1,01
    HKR,%EPattributePath%\EpSettings\PcBeepCtrlEnable, EPname,1,01
    HKR,%EPattributePath%\EpSettings\PcBeepCtrlEnable, DefGainSettings,1,00,07,00,07
    HKR,%EPattributePath%\EpSettings\PcBeepCtrlEnable, MuteGainSettings,1,00,00
    HKR,%EPattributePath%\EpSettings\PcBeepCtrlEnable, Flags,1,00
    HKR,%EPattributePath%\EpSettings\StereoMixEnable,E nable,1,01
    HKR,%EPattributePath%\EpSettings\StereoMixEnable,M ixAssocSeq,1,E0,E0
    HKR,%EPattributePath%\EpSettings\StereoMixEnable,M uteGainSettings,1,00,00
    Now cick "File" and "Save".
    - Then go to Control Panel, Sounds and Hardware, Device Manager, Sound, Video, and Game Controllers, and right click on Conexant Smart Audio HD, select Update Driver Software.
    - Then go to Browse My Computer for Software, Let Me Pick From A List, Have Disk, and navigate to the .inf file (the one you edited in Notepad) in the folder on your desktop.
    - It should tell you it is no longer digitally signed and might harm your computer. Install it anyways.
    - Now open up your Sound tray. If you go to the "Recording" tab, and make sure "Show Disabled Devices" and "Show Disconnected Devices" are both checkmarked.
    - Now you should have Stereo Mix. Right click on it and select "Enable".

  • Satellite L750 - Can I do a brand new install?

    Alright guys
I have got a toshiba satellite l750 that I brought from pc world a couple of months ago and I have a few problems.
For some reason when I save a document under my documents section of windows 7 it saves it fine and shows it there. But when I restart the machine it's gone completely of the machine.
I have had this a few problems so I am thinking of wiping everything of the computer and start a fresh brand new install.
However I don't have any windows disc that came with the laptop, just the winodws 7 key on the back of the laptop.
I am wondering if I use my windows 7 disc for my pc on the laptop but with the key on the back of the laptop it will work fine?
I'l just thought I double check because the sales guy at pc world told me no it wouldn't

    > I guess you never read the whole post because I said I do not have any of the pre installed software which includes recovery media part
    Of course I did :)
I assume you purchased the notebook with an preinstalled Win 7 by Toshiba. Right?
All Toshiba notebooks which are preinstalled with an Win 7 system provides a option to create OWN recovery disks and therefore you did not get an additional recovery disks
And this info is placed in user manual because I could find such info in my user manual too.
    > I am wondering if I use my windows 7 disc for my pc on the laptop but with the key on the back of the laptop it will work fine?
Usually it belongs to the OEM version preinstalled by Toshiba but should work to activate the system using own windows disk

  • Win 7 HDD Recovery doesnt work on Satellite L750

    Hello
I`ve got Toshiba Satellite L750 with preinstaled win 7.
I instaled upgrade to win 8 (from dvd).
After this I upgrade the system from MS site to Win 8.1.
The system doesnt work properly (DVD doesnt recognized) so I have to install previuos system.
First I upgrade my BIOS to the new one - 3.60.
After this I try to do win 7 reinstal from my HDD recovery (which is on the partition d).But it doesnt work - it was impossible to start recovery from bios menu (key F8 doesnt work, there was only possible to press F2 or F12).
So I have to install Win 8.0 from my dvd, and now I have it and it works. But this is only clear system without any addons like nero, ms office etc.
My question is how to reinstal win 7 from my hdd recovery which i still have on partition d ?
in bios the key F8 doesnt work.

    >After this I try to do win 7 reinstal from my HDD recovery (which is on the partition d).But it doesnt work
    >My question is how to reinstal win 7 from my hdd recovery which i still have on partition d ?
in bios the key F8 doesnt work.
The HDD recovery will not work AFTER you changed the system.
In such case to go back to the factory preinstalled system (Windows 7) you need to use the Toshiba recovery disk which could be created with the preinstalled software called Toshiba Recovery Media Creator.
In case you did not create such disk in the past you can order such disk here:

  • Imminent Hard Drive Failure? Satellite C655D-S5130

Recently performed a system recovery after boot failure on Satellite C655D-S5130. Recovery went fine, but now we're getting a windows error message after startup saying that we should run file backup because the hard drive reported errors and warning us of an imminent failure. Otherwise running fine. Please advise.
    R&S

Everybody should already have a file backup for all of their PCs. So if you haven't already backed up your files then do it now.  I strongly suggest creating a Hard Drive Image of your C drive using a reliable imaging/ghost program. If the hard drive is able to provide a reliable image this will save you a lot of heartache and countless hours of rebuilding your NEW Hard Drive.
FYI I can't count the number of Hitachi HDDs that have come across my desk from both Toshiba and the other company that sounds like bell.  All with bad sectors or making clicking sounds.  On the other hand...I have not seen any bad WD drives since 1999, and I have only seen a few bad Seagate drives. (1 3.5" and 1 2.5").
My guess is that you are experiencing Premature HDD Death Syndrome or PHDDDS.
If you are still within warrenty you may be able to get it replaced....when it dies...but I would spend the $$ now to get a new WD Scorpio Blue or Black and make preperations to restore your reliable image to the new HDD.
    Good Luck.
"My comments are my own reality" Consider these in addition to other sources. I only know what I know.

  • Satellite L750 - drivers installation problem

Hello good people of the internet,
I have a problem with drivers' updates/installation on my Satellite L750-1E3, Windows 7-64 bit.
When I launch the installer, it decompresses, telling me it will launch afterwards, but then the window closes and nothing further happens.
I've read about the same problem one person here had with the L855-10P series but, maybe because I'm a girl or maybe because I'm not a native English speaker, I didn't uderstand what to do...
I actually have problem with more things.
My webcam stopped working, when I try to launch it I get the error message that tells me "the initialization went wrong, restart your webcam or computer".
So I tried to reinstall the driver but the problem I described above appeared.
The same driver installation problem appeared when Tempro told me to update my blu-ray driver (I download all the drivers from eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com).
And the last one, for about a month there are problems with the sound on my notebook.
First cracking of sound and then it stops working completely and I have to restart the computer.
Again, I tried to reinstall the sound drivers.
There are two drivers on the Toshiba site, one of them reinstalled just fine but the other one (nvidia, I think) had the same problem as the other drivers.
Someone please tell me what to do, because I am becaoming really desperate and I seriously considered throwing my notebook out of the window.
    Thank you

Usually the HDD recovery is the easiest to get the notebooks factory settings and to get it running again.
    >My webcam stopped working, when I try to launch it I get the error message that tells me "the initialization went wrong, restart your webcam or computer". So I tried to reinstall the driver but the problem I described above appeared..
Its interesting to know if the webcam or an unknown imagine device (probably webcam) appear in device manager. Please check this.
If the webcam isnt listed there, you should check if the webcam is enabled in BIOS.
To access the BIOS press F2. Then go to Advanced tab -> System configuration -> webcam
If the webcam is enabled in BIOS but still not recognized and not listed in device manager, then you should recover the notebook to factory setting to check if the webcam module isnt faulty.
    >The same driver installation problem appeared when Tempro told me to update my blu-ray driver (I download all the drivers from eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com).
The Blu-ray player update works only for notebook equipped with blu-ray drive. If your notebook does not support blu-ray drive

  • Flash Cards do not work on my Satellite L750

    Hello,
I own a Toshiba Satellite L750 PSK1WA-03C00R and my flash cards do not work, the function keys work, but my flash cards do not.
This model does not come with the Flash Card Support Utility, it does however come with the Value Added Package.
I have uninstalled, CCleaned and reinstalled and repeated mulitple times, trying to get this to work properly. I have also restarted after each of these steps.
I can't figure the problem out and thought that I'd see what you guys' recommend before I resort to getting Toshiba's support services.
I also do not want to have to resort to a system restore, but, if I really have to and have no choice, I will when I can.
I hope someone may be able to help me and do look forward to what support you can offer me.
    Thanks in advance.
    -Chris.

    Hello Pedro,
I have checked on thses settings and there is the option to allow the mouse to bring up the flash cards, this will bring up the flash cards if I would like to do that, I would however love to use the keys seeing as the mouse option seems to close any games I may have running and take me to desktop and this is not preferrable.
There is no "Reset Flash Cards" option, I have serched through many files and done many serches for this option and no luck, which is a shame.
Do you have any other suggestions? I would love to have this work.
The reason I did the reinstall was to get my brightness keys to work again. Sure, this fixed the problem, but now I have no flash cards. Any suggestions would make me a very, very happy man.
    Thanks in advance.
    -Chris
