Disk getting stuck on dust guard

Basically, my disk is getting stuck on my dust guard whenever I eject, so it will come out about 1mm but then go straight back inside and load up DVD Watcher. Thanks if you could help me!

Similar thing happening to me, but discs do not even come 1mm out. I purchased my MacBook in 07; does anyone have an estimate on how much it is to have this problem fixed? Would it be covered under a warranty?

  • Format with snow leopard install disk gets stuck at apple logo

Hi, I have a MacBook pro 17" which I want to format but have no install disks however I gt the mac os x snow leopard 10.6.3 disk from pc world today. I have been trying to format with that disk but every time it gets stuck at the apple logo, my current version is 10.6.6. Any help would be great

Does your machine meet [Snow Leopard system requirements|http://www.apple.com/macosx/specs.html]? What system was on it before, and why are you choosing to reinstall?
Does the disk you have obtained have a picture of a snow leopard on it, or is it gray? The latter will not work.
What model MBP? If it's very recent, the current retail SL disk may not work... only the disk that shipped with your machine will. Call Apple for replacements for a small fee.

  • Mounting Windows shared disk - getting stuck; won't eject?

I'm sharing the C: on my windows 2000 server machine, on the network. Most of the time I can mount and eject the volume just fine.
However, sometimes it gets "stuck". Meaning, I can mount it once, then eject it, but when I try to mount it again, i get the ?-mark over the drive. I go to relaunch Finder, and the volume is still there, but it won't eject. I can browse it still, but every action I try seems to not cause it to eject. I have to reboot to get it to clear off.
Is there a way to force a volume to eject? Am I mounting my drive wrong in the first place? Is there a proper way to eject a volume? Thanks.

  • Time Machine gets stuck on 'Making Backup Disk Available'

This has been happening a few days now. Time machine kicks off a backup but it never gets anywhere. It just keeps spinning and saying 'Making Backup Disk Available'
    The log says only:
    Starting standard backup
Attempting to mount network destination using URL: afp://[email protected]/Jim's%20Time%20Capsule
Mounted network destination using URL: afp://[email protected]/Jim's%20Time%20Capsule
I tried to use Disk Utility to repair the sparsebundle and although it says it needs to be repaired, when I click repair it quickly says it 'Volume Repair Complete' but then gets stuck on ''Updating Boot Support Partitions for the volume as required'. I left it on all night to see if it would ever finish and it never did.
Where do I go from here?
    Thanks

Where do I go from here?
if disk utility can not repair the sparse bundle you can try repairing it with disk warrior or a similar tool. if that does not work either you need to trash the sparse bundle and start backups from scratch. there isn't anything else you can do.

  • Satellite P775 getting stuck on extensive disk usage

    Hello
I have a strange problem on my Toshiba Satellite P775 laptop with Windows 7.
From time to time, the laptop is starting slow and heavy I/O operations (I can see it via the disk monitoring indicator). Windows does not crash, but the heavy I/O makes the laptop unusable.
Recently I reinstalled Windows (back to factory settings), but the issue did not go away.
    Few words about "getting stuck":
    1. After laptop was cooled down for long time - more than 1 hour - never happens upon initial boot.
    2. When a problem starts, it does not disappear after shutdown and restart of the laptop
    3. Sometimes happens during login process (getting stuck during the login)
    4. Never happened to me while working in the "safe mode".
    5. Windows does not crash, the mouse is usually responsive - just very heavy and slow disk access makes virtually every application unusable.
*The most recent finding (quite shocking to me): once it happens while being on power, I tried to disconnect the power cord, and then plug it in again after few seconds. To my surprise, the "interrupt" caused by the power connectivity - caused the laptop to return back to normal.*
Any hint on how to debug and fix the problem?
    Thanks for care,
    Max

    Hi
In my opinion there are different reasons for that.
First reason might be a high amount of processes running in the background
Theoretically it could be possible that an process stresses the CPU and therefore the notebook performance slows down.
An HDD issue might cause such problems too.
As you see its really difficult to say what could cause this problem.
From my point of view you should start with the running processes.
Check the CPU usage in the task manager (CPU tab) while this issue happens.

Hello m.goo, and a warm welcome to the forums!
To eject the Disc, hold the Mouse button down, (or what passes for it on a Laptop), while powering up, if you also hold the Option key down at the same time it should eject & give you a chance to insert your install disc & wait for it to shw as a Boot option.

    hai clara,
the issue is coz the drive on which ur trying to install has some issues .
    please goto the article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=13628
in most of the cases u would try some third party disk utility like disk warrior and noton disk utility to repair the disk .
then u need to run disk utility from the TIGER disk .
    follow the article
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
    to repair the disc .
or else u can back up the data on ur HDD and then u need to do an erase and install of TIGER

  • 10.4.11 Install Disk 1 gets stuck

Hey. I just bought a refurbished MacBook, and, to make a long story short, it crashed and burned when I installed the 10.5 update that came with it. So, after talking to Apple a long time because there were some nasty problems, I managed to get the whole hard drive wiped and start the whole install process for 10.4. For some reason, however, the install got stuck in the Essentials at 29% on Disk 1. I tried multiple times to get it to install; I borrowed a friend's install Disks (yes, from the same MacBook model), but they got stuck at 30%. I let both the sets of Install DVDs go through the checking process; I've reset the PRAM; I've done everything I can think of. But it always gets stuck at the same place, and if you listen to the disk drive, you can hear that it's stuck. I'll probably call Apple tomorrow and tell them they need to replace it, but I thought I'd check here first. Any help?

Consider yourself lucky... I'd buy a new Mac tomorrow if it could boot anything other than the worthless Leopard, but they won't due to Firmware changes!
Anyway, if it fails on Zeroing, then yes, it's a bad HD for sure. Maybe Mobo or such, but 2.5" drives are really the pits, ime/imho.

    Hi Gauri,
Are you on Windows 2008 by chance?  I have seen this before on that OS and for me, I was able to get past this by closing the installation and then kicking it off again.
If that fails, try running the setup.exe with the command line switch /qr or /qb
One of those 3 options should get you past this.  I think this was an issue with Windows 2008 mostly.
This forum post sounds helpful as well:

You can copy & remove data from Terminal in Recovery mode but frankly I'd use that as a last resort.
The safest option (make a bootable backup)…
    In Recovery mode, Disk Utility.
Select the restore tab for the Macintosh HD, 'restore' that to a new disk.
Next best option (make a 'restorable' disk image)
    In Recovery mode, Disk Utility.
Select 'File > New image > New image from Folder…'
Select the base of Macintosh HD as the folder
Save that as a compressed disk image on another disk.
You will have a clone of the entire disk inside disk image.
You can also use the second method to make a disk image of particular folders.
I'm not sure if this helps, but it sounds like you may be on the road with limited options?
You could contemplate installing OS X to the 150GB (assuming it is empty). Then you could boot from that if you need to get work done for a few days untill you are able to reinstall the internal disk.
Do you have any other user accounts? There are ways to create them, perhaps it is just your user data that is in a mess? Ask if you want info on that.

Hello.I have a late 2008 model MacBook with snow leopard installed. I'd been having some trouble with it lately, so I went to disk utility and tried to 'repair disk'. It said there was a file system error and it could repair the disk. So I started up from the install disk and tried again...same thing.  Now when I try to turn it on and power it up, it turns on, makes the chime sound and then gets stuck on the gray page with the apple.  I have tried removing the battery, unplugging/replugging power, and  'safe start up mode'. It still won't go past the gray apple page. Please help!!! I'd greatly appreciate any advice or comments! Thanks so much....

If you can boot from the install disk reinstall the operating system and see if it works.

    thoughts?
This is all that I can see...
A couple more notes... I have the latest version of iOS and 2.7GB of free space.
I have rebooted to release memory and it still gets stuck on the intro screen.
Are there any users out there who have this working on a 5th Gen iPod Touch?

    Hi,
there are some users that have run into the same issue, we have not been able to reproduce this issue which means that we need your help.
If you could give us the crash logs that would help a lot, they are available at the following locations on your desktop once you've connected the device to it:
    OSX: /Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/DeviceName/PSTouchphone....log
    Windows: C:\Users\AppData\Roaming\Apple computer\Logs\CrashReporter\MobileDevice\DeviceName\PSTouchphone....log
    The known workarounds are:
Uninstall and reinstall from iTunes with USB (normally works)
If that doesn't work the only known workaround is to upgrade your iOS version.
Did PS Touch always behave like this on your iPod? I.e. - when did you first install and start PS Touch?
If not can you recall how you installed PS Touch the first time?
Over iTunes or AppStore? And do you recall how you updated it?
    thanks,
    Ignacio

WZZZ answered about where to get iStat. And do check the SMART status. If it is an overheating problem due to a fan or logic board problem, your hard drive is possibly cooking itself to death. If so it isn't a faulty hard drive even though the hard drive might fail. So assuming it's a temperature problem, even if you are able to repair things on the disk with software, that is working on symptoms, not causes. I could be wrong however.
RE: AppleCare: Your iMac came with one year of AppleCare (Apple's warranty program), but within the first year you can buy 2 more years. You have to extend by the one year anniversary of purchase of the computer. Your 10,1 is too old to still be in the first year, and since you asked what it was, I'm sure you don't have it. Bottom line meaning is that whatever this problem turns out to be, you'll have to pay for it. Unless there is something like this. It is for 2011 iMacs with certain Seagate drives. You can put in your serial number for fun, but it looks like yours is too old. Lastly, some people have had Apple help them anyway if it is just out of warranty, but many have not. Your machine is one of these. Type in 10,1 in the search box. Is there an Apple Store near you? Just b/c it's out of warranty doesn't mean you shouldn't have it looked at by Apple. But no one here can say at all what Apple will or will not do.
Hope you get it taken care of!

  • Internet recovery gets stuck on the spinning globe with the progress bar below.

    Hello Everybody!
I'm trying to fix the iMac (27-inch, Mid 2010) of my friend. He said it doesn't boot anymore and just gets stuck on the grey screen with the Apple logo and the spinning wheel below. So my first step was to go into the Startup Manager by pressing the Option key after the chime. There I was presented with the Macintosh HD and the Recovery HD. After selecting the Recovery HD to access the Disk Utilities I got stuck on the grey screen with the Apple logo and the spinning wheel again. So I guess the data on the drive is corrupted and might have to be replaced. But before I do that, I wanted to give the Internet Recovery a try. I connected the iMac to the internet using an ethernet cable and pressed Command + Option + R after the chime and the spinning globe appeared with the info: "starting recovery process from network. This may take a while". After a short time the sentences are replaced by a progress bar and a timer that is counting up. The progress bar then moved for a tiny little bit and then nothing happens anymore but the timer keeps counting up. I waited for quiet some time before I gave up. I did not get any errors so I can't provide any other useful information. Can anyone give my some advice? I read in other posts that the ISPs of specific countries block ports which are needed for the internet recovery. I'm in Thailand right now. Does anyone know if that might cause the problem?
Thank you for all your help!
