Disk ikon disappears under Parallels

My optical disk icon disappears when I launch Windows under Parallels. I mean in coherence mode wher the Mac desktop is visible, the icon disappears from the Mac desktop. I can't find it anywhere. On my laptop I can't eject the disk using the eject button when Parallels is running. I don't know if this is really a OSX or Parallels sort of problem, but it's the Mac desktop so I thought I could ask here. All other feature of the Mac and Mac desktop work under coherence mode.

Yes, running with only 137.3 MB in your system partition can cause all sorts of problems. I would suggest you get rid of enough of your files to get at least 10 GB free.
Since you are not using the Windows partition that might be a good place to move your photos and music to.

Disk Space Disappearing -- 10.2.8

I have a G3 PowerBook running OS X 10.2.8. I've noticed that my disk space disappears for some unexplained reason, although it does seem to happen most often after my daughter has been playing games on disney.com. Does anyone know how to pinpoint where the disk space is going, and more importantly, how to get it back? I've got an external hard disk and have moved lost of programs off of my Mac, but the gains are short-lived.

If you go to "more options" in the Search pane (upper right of this page) and enter "disney" and then search "all categories," you'll find other reports of "concerns" with visiting the Disney web site. Some are obviously just plain paranoia but such a search might be useful.
I've been rehabbing three old G3 PowerBooks for a friend who knew nothing about the Mac OSX maintenance scripts. On one machine, simply running one of the scripts freed up 2GB of space on his 8GB boot partition (the Wallstreet G3 PB has the "Old World ROM" OSX boot partition limitation).

The scripts run automatically but only if your computer is turned on and not sleeping in the wee hours of the morning. Obviously, 95 percent of Mac users won't benefit as their computer are either off or asleep at this time of day. The article shows how to run them manually.
There is a freeware program called "WhatSize" that reports what is eating up disk space but I've not been able to get it to run on a G3 PowerBook under 10.2.8, Seems to need Panther.

If it requires a Photoshop CS5 re-install, (I belief that it may fix the problem) and re-install the two third party plugins (NIK Viveza) and (Onone Perfect Resize) how and where do I get to the proper Adobe upload page to do that.
I have tried to fix this problem by changing the memory allocations, I have spend many hours on it and are very disgusted with it but it needs to be fixed. The current memory settings are;
Ram available = 1588 MB
Range = 873 -1143 MB
Recommended Photoshop usage range = 857 however I have tried every setting to max and in between. Nothing works. Current setting = 1588 (max)
The Photoshop I use is registered, I have product # and order # .

Contact NIK for updated/upgraded versions of their plug-ins. They have been having a lot of issues with their plug-ins.

Are you sure your iPod Classic is configured to sync podcasts to your device? You'll want to double check by taking a quick look at your iPod's Podcast configuration tab in iTunes.
To access this tab, plug your iPod in and click on it from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes when it appears to bring yourself to the iPod's Summary tab. Now locate the Podcasts tab and select it. Under this tab you can configure how and what podcasts are synced to your device. If you make any changes, be sure to click theApply button in the lower right hand corner.

Canon iP6700D Tray Choices Disappear Under Snow Leopard

I have a Canon iP6700D. In 10.5 and earlier, one could select between the automatic sheet feeder and the cassette through selections under "Quality and Media". Those options seem to have disappeared under 10.6.1 using the September 11th Canon printer driver. Nosing about in Google, others seem to have the same problem with this and other printers under Snow Leopard. I've tried uninstalling the printer and re-installing but it hasn't helped.
Settings made under 10.5 and saved still appear in Snow Leopard, and are still able to access the cassette and the sheet feeder, but I can't find a place to CHANGE that for saved or for new settings.
Can anyone tell me where to find this setting, or where I might find a patch that will fix the problem?

The v10.26 driver for the iP6700D still has the Paper Source menu under Q&M on 10.6. I can only think that something is conflicting with your installation of the driver. I would trash the contents of the BJPrinter folder, located in HD > Library > Printers > Canon. Then install the v10.26 driver again and see if the menus are present.
There were two versions of printer drivers available for 10.5, v5.8.3 and v10.xx. If you had the version 5 installed and had presets based on this driver, then they will not work correctly with the v10 driver on 10.6. You should Delete these presets and create new ones once you get the Q&M menu appearing on your install.

Ok if disk utility was able to verify the drive I doubt there is any problem.. are you trying to open a TM backup??
You need to mount the sparsebundle then check the actual info inside the bundle.
Don't use disk warrior.. if the disk has verified then unless you deliberately deleted files there is nothing that is going to do.

Interesting. Comes with? you didn't have either before? Paragon is commercial and is now v. 10.0, they were the only one keeping updated and was supporting 10.7.4. I would not enable more than one.
For writing to HFS Paragon has theirs but probably give the nod to MacDrive there.
I never do an upgrade to a new OS over the old system, I backup (clone) and format the drive with the new OS and do the install so whatever is there I know is clean and also to keep from carrying around leftovers from years and systems past.
I would assme Paragon is limited. Try their site and knowledge base?

Disk drive disappears

I've got a Powermac G4 DP 800 that the disk drive works fine, but when I attach a hard drive to the ATA ribbon, neither drive shows up,not in Disk Utility, not even in System Profiler. Unhook the hard drive, again disk drive works fine. Tried a different hard drive, same thing happens. Changed locations on the ribbon, same thing happens. The hard drives came out of an iMac G5 that went down,so I was just sticking my hard drives in the G4 for some more storage. Even if both hard drives were bad, why would the disk drive disappear even in Disk Profiler? Looks like the computer would still see the disk drive.

The problem now is the HDs are SATA with no master slave jumper settings. I can have a 160gb hd, a80gb hd, or a disk drive. I've got an open spot for a card. I'll get a card and ribbon and I'll see how that works. Neither the WD 160 nor the Seagate 80 have any jumper settings for master/slave and I've got them on SATA/IDE adapters to attach to the ribbons. I'll let you know if it helps.
It would help to have the specifics of your setup since there's things beyond standards specifications here (this is generally helpful when asking any hardware question, especially if you have made modifications to the computer). I have a dual 800 G4 tower and it doesn't take SATA drives, so I am guessing that you have an SATA PCI card. Also, I'm surprised they made SATA drives as small as 80GB and 160GB. Can you provide specific model numbers for these drives?

Photoshop Elements 2: Top Of Picture Disappears Under Shortcuts Menu Bar.

I know it's not an eMac problem but I thought this would be the best place to ask!
At one time whenever I opened a photo in PSE2 the top edge of the photo's window was neatly aligned with the bottom of the Shortcuts Menu Bar.
Now whenever I open a picture the top of the picture's window disappears under the menu. If it doesn't disappear the moment it is opened, it does if I try to enlarge it.
This means I cannot move the picture around the monitor or close the picture with the red button at the top.
The only cure I have found is to remove the Shortcuts Menu bar, which is rather inconvenient!
I have fiddled around with the preferences and also turned the "Resize Windows To Fit" setting on and off to no avail.
This never used to happen - so has anyone got a solution?

PROBLEM SOLVED !!!!!!!
After a day of intermittent head-banging I have solved it.
The Shortcuts Bar should always be ABOVE the Options Bar.
Although I have used Photoshop a lot, I can go for weeks without looking at it.
Somehow the positions of the Shortcut and Options bars had been switched and I hadn't noticed.
I don't know how because I didn't even realise they could be moved and nobody else uses my computer!
Anyway, now the Shortcuts Bar is on top everything is back to normal.
Hope this is of some help should it happen to anyone else.

As a switcher from Windows, I still have some programs only for windows, one of them being Photoshop. So if I want to do some professional retouching I have to go to windows, which I'm running under paralells Desktop.
My problem is the following:
I do not really know the best way to access the photos that are stored in the iPhoto Database under Originals or Modified.
Do you have any workflow suggestions?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. If you had an external HD, formatted for PCs but one that Macs can read, Fat32 I think, you could store your photos on that drive and then use iPhoto in it's alias mode (see iPhoto's Advanced preferences section) so that the source files would be left on that external HD where Windows could access them.
However, you would not be able to move or rename the source files in either Windows or Mac's Finder. Any editing on the Windows side would be visible by iPhoto but the thumbnail in iPhoto would not represent the edit. Any edit by iPhoto would stay in iPhoto (the modified file is saved in iPhoto's library folder) and not be available to the Windows side.
I don';t know if this method would work if the source files were stored on the Windows partition as I don't know if the Mac has access to that partition when you're in OS X. It might, however, eliminating the need for an external HD. Here are some Tutorials on the alias system that might be of use to you if you go that route.

Multiple disk ikons for programmes started appearing on my desktopappearing

In the last couple of days a strange phenomenon has started. Multiple disk ikons for Photoshop elements and Helicon have started appearing on my desk top. For a couple of days it has just been a couple of each. I have just done a restart and within two minutes there were more than twenty disk images for Photoshop elements filling the screen. I am using Mavericks on an Imac. Is this possibly a virus?

The images were the same type of image that you get when you insert a CD into the machine - a round image of a disk. Moving them to the trash was problematic because it took five or six seconds to carry out the move.
I have actually found out what was causing the problem but 'why' is a totally different thing. I have a Filemaker 12 database which is a clone of my main Filemaker database and which is used just for printing sheets of labels. I have been working with that file for a few days and it appears to have become badly corrupted - no idea how. As soon as I click the 'import' command to import records from my main database. the icons appear in the background. I made a clone of this file and repeated the import into the new clone and the problem was solved.
Still a mystery though.

I would like to create a link to an external website. But when I select the words and then type the url containing http:// in the "Link" field, the words disappear under a black box. How do I correct this?

Without the link applied, the page looks fine in the browser. But I am trying to figure out what is going on in the CSS file that would cause this. When I move the mouse over the design view, I notice that outlines forming boxes appear. They overlap the text that I want to create a link with. I tried deleting a box that overlapped the text, but doing so didn't work. I tried increasing the z index, but that didn't work. I tried applying an id instead of a class, but that also didn't work. I'll keep working on the css file. Thank you.

double-click opens Excel Office 2011 for mac without the document.
It should open the document in Excel 2010 for Windows.

In Parralells, choose the file you want to open.
Right Click on it and choose Properties.
In the General Tab you will see "Opens with:"
Click the "Change ... " button.
Then choose Excel 2010. The checkbox below should be set to "Always use ... "
