Disk image for "Roller Coaster Tycoon" disk

Hi
Just bought RCT 3. I want to create a disk image so that I don't have to use the game DVD all the time and carry it everywhere with me. I tried this by inserting the disk, creating an image from the disk and saving it as a CD/DVD Master. The disk image opens and looks identical to the CD when opened, however when I start the game I get a "please insert the original game disk" I even tried burning the image to a DVD and the same thing happened again.
Does anyone know of a way around this?
Cheers

Joey, I am having a similar problem with OS X 10.5.3. I am unable to create a disk image of a cdrom game for my daughter (6yrs old). I would not fool with the cd each time she wants to play. I can create the disk image in OS X 10.4.11, but not in 10.5.3. Not sure what the problem is.

  • Installing Roller Coaster Tycoon on MacBook Pro - Games

My daughter tried to install Roller Coaster Tycoon on my MacBook Pro and got an error message, the gist of which was that it needed 1 mb of disk space; free up space on local disk and try again.  We deleted a bunch of files, all of which were more than 1 mb but still no luck.  Any suggestions?

    Operating System: Windows® 98/Me/2000/XP (Windows® XP recommended)
So you would need to use Boot Camp to install Windows - and they don't seem to be supporting Vista/7 so not sure what is up there.

Does the original Install disk that you are copying,

how can I create a disk image of snow leopard installer disk from my Imac which runs it? It came without DVD installer, and I want to make a copy of it's OS installer but can't find out how.

You need to have the disc in order to create disk image of snow leopard installer disc. What did your machine ship with? If something later than SL, then why? If earlier, then you can buy the SL installer disc and make the disk image.

  • Using a Disk Image instead of a physical disk

I would like to create an image of a series of instillation disks that I would be able to later use to install an application with out these disks. I found this article on using a disk image in leu of a disk.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106161
If I did this would I be able to launch the disk image so the instillation application uses this image instead of a disk when prompted?
If not, is this even possible?

Not sure about the series deal, but if the OS is already running, then yes, you can use a Disk Image just Like a Disk, once it is mounted.

  • How do I define 2 disk groups for ocr and voting disks at the oracle grid infrastructure installation window

    Hello,
It may sound too easy to someone but I need to ask it anyway.
I am in the middle of building Oracle RAC 11.2.0.3 on Linux. I have 2 storage and I created three LUNs in each of storage so 6 LUNs in total look in both of servers. If I choose NORMAL as a redundancy level, is it right to choose my 6 disks those are created for OCR_VOTE at the grid installation? Or should I choose only 3 of them and configure mirroring at latter stage?
The reason why I am asking this is that I didn't find any place to create asm disk group for ocr and voting disks at the oracle grid infrastructure installation window. In fact, I would to like to create two disk groups in which one of groups contains three disks those were brought from storage 1 and the second one contains rest three 3 disk that come from the last storage.
I believe that you will understand the manner and help me on choosing proper way.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
    You have 2 Storage H/W.
You will need to configure a Quorum ASMDisk to store a Voting Disk.
Because if you lose 1/2 or more of all of your voting disks, then nodes get evicted from the cluster, or nodes kick themselves out of the cluster.
You must have the odd number of voting disk (i.e 1,3 or 5)  one voting disk per ASM DISK, So 1 Storage will hold more voting disk than another storage.
    (e.g 3 Voting Disk - 2 voting stored in stg-A and 1 voting disk store in stg-B)
If fail the storage that hold the major number of  Voting disk the whole cluster (all nodes) goes down. Does not matter if you have a other storage online.
    It will happen:

  • How do I create a disk image for windows 7, using a windows computer for USB bootcamp for mac?

Hi There, I have just bought a new 2013 iMac.
    Spec: 3.4 GHz intel core i5, 16GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Memory , NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M 2048 MB Graphics with OS X 10.9.4.
How can I create a 'disk image' from a windows 7 professional 64bit installation DVD using a windows laptop with windows 7 Operating system on? I want to transfer this 'disk image' (ISO?) to a USB ready for installing windows onto my 2013 iMac using bootcamp?  I want to use bootcamp from a USB as I have no disk drive for the installation DVD on my iMac. I hope all this is clear.
    Thank you. Joe

Yes, that's correct, at least not directly. You can create a blank disk image, copy the file to the mounted disk image, then burn the image to a CD/DVD.
Open Disk Utility and select Blank Disk Image from the New menu. Provide a name, Save location, and select the image size from the drop down menu. Leave Encryptions at None and Format as read/write. Click on the Create button.
After the image file appears the "removable" disk should be automatically mounted. If not double-click on it to mount it. A "removable" disk icon will appear. Drag the file you want to place on the disk image to the "removable" disk icon. The eject the "removable" disk icon. Now select the disk image file in the DU left side list and click on the Burn icon in the DU toolbar. Be sure to have a blank disc ready.
The above is actually the "long" way to do this. A much easier way is to simply insert a blank CD or DVD into the optical drive. The Finder will pop up a dialog asking what to do. Select the option to mount on the Desktop. You will now see a disc icon on the Desktop. Drag the file you want to burn to the CD/DVD, right-click or CTRL-click on the disc icon and select Burn from the contextual menu.

But i can not find where the TM Back up driver is situated in my TM Back up's
Some advice would be greatly appreceate   as i am rather new to Mackintosh
    Thank you
    Aiden

    Hi again.
Just re-reading your first post, I wonder if you're confusing a disk image backup with Time Machine?
It's certainly possible to create a disc image of your Macintosh HD and copy it to an external drive.
However, as a backup that method has a drawback; you can't boot from a disc image directly. It needs to be mounted on a bootable system before it can be used. So it's not really much use if the internal HD fails, at least as far as allowing you to carry on working while the repair is carried out.
Much better (and simpler) is to clone the whole drive to the external using CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper (there are plenty of others, but those appear to be the most popular).
That will give you a bootable backup which can be kept up to date by incremental backups using the same applications.
In the event of total internal HD failure all you need to do is replace the drive then boot from the clone and reverse clone to the internal to get up and running again.
Many of us use both a bootable clone and Time Machine (on seperate drives) as each has it's different uses.

  • Using disk images for learning games?

Hello, I've 2 g3 imacs running 9.2.2, and they are for the grandkids to use learning games on.
The kids are very hard on the software disks. When I found out about disk images I made them up, now to install them properly. The games are installed, but where to store the disk images? The desk top icons for the games will work after the disk images have been double clicked and the mounted disk image appears on the desktop, but when the imacs are turned off the mounted disk image is lost. How or where does one put the disk images in a safe place so the kids don't get at them, and the disks are mounted every time, without actually starting, when the Mac is started? Start up menu?
I'm planning on multiple accounts with them having a standard account with game privileges so they don't mess the whole thing up. If their accounts get too messed up for me to repair I figured on maybe deleting the account and opening up a new one? Any Ideas are very welcome.
    Thank you,
    EZ

    Hi, EZ -
    You're quite welcome.
I had a thought with regard to the disk image files. Are they in a .smi format, or are they in a .img format?
The .img format requires the assistance of the Disk Copy utility in order to mount the image. This is the standard format generated by the user version of Disk Copy. It requires that Disk Copy be available to Finder to act as a helper app in order to mount the image.
The .smi format does not - .smi stands for Self-Mounting Image. The user version of Disk Copy can not make this format; but I have seen a utility to convert .img format to .smi format. The slight advantage with this format is that Disk Copy does not need to be available to Finder.
In both cases the default is to run a checksum verification before the image is finally mounted. The delay caused by this verification can be inconvenient - verification is intended to confirm the integrity of the image after it has been copied, transported, or downloaded, but is usually not necessary when the image resides on a hard drive.
The checksum verification for .img file types can be removed. With the image not mounted, open Disk Copy. In Disk Copy's Preferences (Edit menu), uncheck the Verify Checksum item. Save the Preferences window. Then select Convert Image from the Image menu, navigate to the disk imge file from which you want to remove the verifiaction, select it and click the Open button. A new window will appear, similar to a Save As type window. Leave everything in that window untouched (unless you want to change the base name of the file - the extension .img should be left intact) and click the Save button. The image will be mounted, the original disk image file will be deleted, and a new disk image file created. Unfortunately creating the new image file takes quite a while since it is creating a new one, not actually modifying the old one - but it does get rid of the intrusion of the checksum verification requirement.
I verified on my G4/500 running OS 9.1 that a .img file (one I had made from a game CD years ago) dropped into the Startup Items folder will be mounted automatically at the end of the startup sequence. I also tested with an alias to the .img file, and it, too, worked fine - the disk image was mounted automatically at the conclusion of the startup sequence.
When you make the alias to the disk image file (the .img one), be sure you are placing it into the Startup Items folder, and not the Startup Items (disabled) folder.
If you have the machine set to use Simple Finder (which removes Finder's keyboard commands and many menu options for Finder), that may interfere with items in the Startup Items folder being run at startup. Or, it may not - I have not checked that.
    *** Edit ***
I have verified that the alias to a .img file will mount the disk image even when the machine is booted using Simple Finder.
Another thought, related to Multiple Users - if you do decide to set up Multiple Users, and the disk images are of type .img, be sure to authorize Disk Copy for each of the accounts for which the disk images are to be mounted. If you have the disk image files in a .smi format, since Finder views that file type as being an application, you would need to authorize each of those disk image files for each account which is to have access to them.

  • Jump drive vs. disk image for secure data, which is better?

I want to store all my financial files somewhere securely....encrypted and password protected. It seems my choices are either a jump drive or disk image. If I use the disk image on my Pro, I'll have to be able to back it up to an external drive for storage at another location. Is one method better than the other?

Well, I personally would go with a hardware encryption method over a software method. I have encrypted USB memory sticks, and they are not cheap, but they work seemlessly between my Mac and my Windows computers. I have used hardware encrypted external hard drives, and they have worked just as easily for me. The beauty there is that you don't need to install any software on a computer to use them. The drawback is that when they fail, you have much less hope of recovering your data, but since this is critical information, you are keeping it backed up somewhere (securely), so that is less of a concern.
There are plenty of good software choices as well, some of which are even free.
Back to your original question, flash memory or spinning disk? Both have a limited lifetime, and both will fail. Each time you write to flash memory you shorten its life a very little bit, so if this is information that will be updated quite often, a spinning disk might be a better choice. Also, capacity for your dollar will be lower cost for a spinning disk. I believe that Google has some interesting stats on spinning disk life spans, and considering the amount of data they have to deal with, they would be a good source for they type of statistic...
