Disk Image Password and File Questions

Hi, I created a sparse disk image to protect some files and included the password in my keychain.  Can I reverse this decision?  Also, if I delete the files in the sparse disk image, are the files deleted totally from my iMac, or are they just no longer encrypted and password protected?  Thanks.

Thanks a lot, now when I open the image a password is requested which I prefer.  Still, I've saved my Turbo Tax file in the image, but I'm able to open TT without supplying the password, shouldn't I be prompted for the password since it's in a password protected disk image?  Unfortunately TT no longer protects files on a computer, a user is supposed to create an Intuit account to save the tax file password online. What a hassle.

  • How do I create a Disk Image of a FILE?

How do I get Disk Utility to make a .dmg (regular or encrypted) of a single FILE, not a Folder, Disk or Device, without using a third party utility? OR are 3rd party utiities a better choice for Disk Image creation?
I've read all the "Help" info and it only covers creating a .dmg of a Folder, Disk or Device NOT an individual/single file. [Unless I'm blind]
No matter what I do only folders, disks, and devices are highlighted but all files are grayed out during any .dmg creation.

Yes, that's correct, at least not directly. You can create a blank disk image, copy the file to the mounted disk image, then burn the image to a CD/DVD.
Open Disk Utility and select Blank Disk Image from the New menu. Provide a name, Save location, and select the image size from the drop down menu. Leave Encryptions at None and Format as read/write. Click on the Create button.
After the image file appears the "removable" disk should be automatically mounted. If not double-click on it to mount it. A "removable" disk icon will appear. Drag the file you want to place on the disk image to the "removable" disk icon. The eject the "removable" disk icon. Now select the disk image file in the DU left side list and click on the Burn icon in the DU toolbar. Be sure to have a blank disc ready.
The above is actually the "long" way to do this. A much easier way is to simply insert a blank CD or DVD into the optical drive. The Finder will pop up a dialog asking what to do. Select the option to mount on the Desktop. You will now see a disc icon on the Desktop. Drag the file you want to burn to the CD/DVD, right-click or CTRL-click on the disc icon and select Burn from the contextual menu.
Why reward points?(Quoted from Discussions Terms of Use.)
The reward system helps to increase community participation. When a community member gives you (or another member) a reward for providing helpful advice or a solution to their question, your accumulated points will increase your status level within the community.
Members may reward you with 5 points if they deem that your reply is helpful and 10 points if you post a solution to their issue. Likewise, when you mark a reply as Helpful or Solved in your own created topic, you will be awarding the respondent with the same point values.

  • Disk Image Passwords

Is there anyway to change a disk image password on your desktop?

If you are referring to the password on a secure disk image (a dmg file that mounts as a disk after you open it and enter the password), then no, there is no way to change the password. Assuming you know the password, what you need to do is create a new secure disk image (in Disk Utility) with the new desired password, then copy the contents of the old disk image to the new disk image.
If you do not know the password of the current disk image (the one you want to change) and did not store it in the keychain, then there is *_no way_* you can get at those encrypted data (which is the point of the encryption of the data!). In OS X 10.4, Disk Utility uses 128-bit AES encryption.
Note that if you stored the password in your keychain, you can see the password - launch Applications > Utilities > Keychain Access, click on Passwords, double-click the "diskimage".dmg item, then check the Show Password box (you'll have to enter your login password and click Allow Once). Even though you can "edit" the password in that field, and the edit will stick, that will not change the password of the disk image (but it will 'break' the keychain item, such that if the disk mounted automatically because the password was stored in the keychain, it won't do that anymore and the password will have to be entered to mount the disk image).
    Hope this helps...

First, remove your personal information from your post.  That's not needed here.  This is a public forum, and it is unwise to provide your personal data online.
Second, here's how you reset your password and/or security questions.
How to reset your Apple ID password.
Go to iforgot.apple.com and type in your Apple ID, then click 'Next'.
Verify your date of birth, then click 'Next'.
You'll be able to choose one of two methods to reset your password, either E-Mail Authentication or Answer Security Questions.
If neither method works, then go to https://getsupport.apple.com
(If you see a message that says 'There are no products registered to this Apple ID, simply click on 'See all products and services')
Choose 'More Products & Services', then 'Apple ID'.
    A new page will open.
Choose 'Other Apple ID Topics', then 'Lost or forgotten Apple ID password'.
    Click the blue 'Continue' button.
Select the contact option that suits your needs best.
How to reset your Apple ID security questions.
Go to appleid.apple.com, click on the blue button that says 'Manage Your Apple ID'.
Log in with your Apple ID and password. (If you have forgotten your Apple ID password, go to iforgot.apple.com first to reset your password with a password recovery email)
Go to the Password & Security section on the left side, and click on the link underneath the security questions that says 'Forgot your answers? Send reset security info email to [email]'.  This will generate an automated e-mail that will allow you to reset your security questions.
If that doesn't work, or  there is no rescue email link available, then click on 'Temporary Support PIN' that is in the bottom left side, and generate a 4-digit PIN for the Apple Account Security Advisor you will be contacting later.
    Next, go to https://getsupport.apple.com
(If you see a message that says 'There are no products registered to this Apple ID, simply click on 'See all products and services')
Choose 'More Products & Services', then 'Apple ID'.
    A new page will open.
Choose 'Other Apple ID Topics', then 'Forgotten Apple ID Security Questions'.
    Click the blue 'Continue' button.
Select the contact option that suits your needs best.

    Hi, Carmen.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you need to reset you security questions, do not know the answers and no longer have access to that email account, see the last sentence under Note in step 5.
You'll be asked to answer 2 of your 3 security questions before you can make any modifications. If you are unable to remember your answers, you can choose to send an email to your rescue email to reset your security questions.
Note: The option to send an email to reset your security questions and answers will not be available if a rescue email address is not provided. You will need tocontact iTunes Store support in order to do so.

  • I forgot my Apple ID password and security questions, plus I don't receive the "I forgot" email

I forgot my Apple ID password.  I don't remember my security question answers. I have apps on my iphone that I can't update because of this.  So I created a new Apple ID and downloaded some apps. (So I have apps on my iphone from two different Apple IDs).
    What I've tried:
I never receive the "I forgot" email - tried it multiple times. I have checked spam folders, recently deleted - checked it all, not there.
I can't delete apps from the old Apple ID and download them with the new because it will delete information from the app, such as game highscores.
I have money on the old Apple ID and would like to be able to use it. If someone can please give me a solution or a support number that can help my situation. It would be greatly appreciated.    -  I have called support once but no luck.

The security questions will only be asked on the first purchase on a computer or device (though people have occasionally posted that they've asked for them when it isn't the first time) - I'm not aware of any way to change that. You can force the password to be required on your iPad via Settings > General > Restrictions > Require Password set to 'Immediately' (the default is a 15 minute period during which it doesn't need re-entering)

i forgot my i cloud apple password and security question and i dont remember the id well how can i activate my device? please i need help

    Hello there, Hisham1977.
The following Knowledge Base article provides the steps to follow if you've forgotten the answer to your security questions:
Apple ID: All about Apple ID security questions
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5665
What should I do if I don't remember the answers to my Apple ID security questions?
If you forgot the answers to your security questions, try answering them at least once to see if you can get them right, even if you're not sure you remember the answers. If you're confident that you can't remember them, try one of the following:
If you have three security questions and a rescue email address, sign in to My Apple ID and select the “Password and Security” tab to send an email to your rescue email address to reset your security questions and answers.
If you have one security question and you know your Apple ID password, sign in to My Apple ID and select the “Password and Security” tab to reset your security question.
If you have one security question, but don't remember your Apple ID password, contact Apple Support for assistance. Learn more about creating a temporary support PIN to help Apple confirm your identity when you contact Apple Support.
Note: If you forgot your password and answer your security questions incorrectly too many times in a row, you will be unable to try to answer your security questions for a period of time. During that time, you will not be able to reset your password and will not have access to your account.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro
