Disk image system copy causes problems

Working with a client who chose to copy a PRD SAP ECC 6.0 system to a new box (as DEV) via a disk image copy. They renamed enough of the new SAP system to get it running but they still have problems.
The command CHGR3SHLOC fails when the PRD box tries to create the mount to DEV. Also the source system name show up in the name of the default & instance profiles even when the old profiles are deleted and regenerated.
I was wondering if anyone had a list of things to be changed when using a disk image to create a new SAP system.
Personally I always do a normal install followed by a DB copy to create a DEV system from a PRD system.

Hi Matt,
I'm sorry, but I never used DSPR3SYS or similar ... you udefinetely do not need to redo the copy, but you need to fix the root cause. As I do not know your issue, I cannot help you ...
I would change the data area in r3sid400, the profiles and the /usr/sap/trans/config/SID ... (except the rest of my document)
In crazy cases delete of the IFS stuff in /usr/sap & /sapmnt should help as well and then use crtr3sys and crtr3inst ...
For more details, I need to check online ...

PI 7.11 sp6 system copy causes target sys to register with source

Experts,
We have a PI 7.1 (EHP1, sp6) PI system based on AIX 6.1 OS and Oracle 11g.
I recently did the standard PI system copy from a prod source (PIP) to a training target (PIT).
I used the most recenty PI system copy guide that is specific for PI 7.1 EHP1
I did not run into any major problems doing the steps of the itself.
I did the usual "post" steps, documented in the guide that really are done on any NW system.
Then I got into the specific "PI" post steps and that's where I now have a problem.
I could not run the "wizard for post copy" since I'm on 7.11sp6. Yes, I know they "downported" it but I don't have those latest LMtools type packages. Anyway, I'm OK with that.
I followed all the steps, fixing my RFCs, JCos, Destinations, cleaning up SLD, SLDAPICUST, creating new business systems...etc.
My big problem is with the exchange profile. Yes, it's easy to change all the SIDs and hostnames using the search tool for all the parameters in the exchange profile, but the one I COULD NOT CHANGE was the "ABAP Connection". In there right after the copy was the hostname of the prod system, the client, and the user PILDUSER. I attempted to put the hostname of my target (PIT) system, but I would get the error:
RFC 399 unable to connect
I'm certain the user is NOT locked and the password is correct for PILDUSER.
Worse yet, If I left the hostname in there that was set to "prod", then when I changed all the other values in the "parameters" section of the XI profile, then it actually changed my PROD system!!
If I keep the ABAP connection to PIT, then the entire exchange profile disappears for PIT.
Also, now my PROD system shows the PIT system as a "non-central adapter engine".
Ughh! I'm totally stuck. I'm not sure what to do.
It's as if the PIT (PI training) system somehow is linked to PIP (PI prod). It's like PIT doesn't think he is his own box...
Any ideas? I'm resisting opening a message because this will be so hard to explain to sap support.

Hi Nick,
We went thru the same issue. Fortunately, it was between Dev to sandbox. I stopped the dev system and changed the exchange profile parameters to sandbox hostname and brought the Dev up to fix the issue.
Prod showing as Non-Central Adapter engine :- Check your Business System in SLD and In CIM Instances in SLD, check your XI Integration server assigned to right Business System.
Note 764176 - Error in XI due to inconsistent SLD contents :- helped me come over PI post step issues.

System copy Export Problem

I am doing system copy. During Export procedure i had choose export with ABAP Schema and JAVA Schema. so it will give error.
If i do export with only ABAP Schema (No JAVA Schema) then it will not give any error and export will completed successfully.

Image scale caching causing problems

I have an app with a image that the user must be able to zoom and scroll.
When the image is first loaded it is at full view. When the user zooms the memory usage sky rockets, and during this zooming the app is very laggy.
Once the memory has added about 70Mb, the zooming runs without lag.
If the user waits however, the memory usage goes back down, the scaling lags again, and the memory fills again.
I have been able to get around this with making the height an odd number of pixels.
This causes the memory to stay at the +70Mb and prevent lagging, but this may not be a permanent solution.
Is there any way to prevent the GC from wiping the scale information? Or any way to manage how the cached scale data is stored?

The image is large. The app is for iOS and Android devices.
The images are 5464x3073 (should be 3072, but made it odd to prevent problem), they are simply scaled to fit the screen (usually about 0.2 scale).
Till this point is fine, obvious pause when loading the image, but when the user zooms in, the memory gets an extra 70Mb(if you zoom all the way in) and stays for about 10-20 seconds. During this time zoom is smooth. When the memory goes back down the process of zooming causes lag and memory usage again.

System copy problem...No transfer rules available

We are facing a problem in getting the Transfer Rules...
1.we did a system copy from PRD system and created a Sandbox system .
2.After the system copy the problem came from the source system.....i.e for the datasource's in the table RSOLTPSOURCE the mapping is showing for 2 systems....CRM PRD system & CRM SANDBOX system....
3.Coz of this issue the Transfer rules are not available and the all the DS are inactive......
4.I tried with the FM RS_TRANSTRUC_ACTIVATE_ALL but im getting message as no transfer structure is available.
5.When i tried to manually activate the DS from BW side it is asking to create TRANSFER RULE.
Please help me to sort it out.....

I also raised a OSS to SAP ....what they suggested is....
According the logs in BWS there was definitely a systemcopy from BWP to BWS, but the BDLS logs looks very strange, which actually did not converted anything, because the administration tables containing some very strange entries.
Lets take the datasource 0crm_sales_act_1 for example. If you check this datasource in table RSOLTPSOURCE you can see, that it exists currently for both source systems:

Unfortunately the root cause of this is unkown, but most probably it is caused by an improper copy procedure, where the consulting note
886102 was not followed.
To solve the problem, please follow the below steps:
1. Implement note 1405233 and 1336119 to your system 2. Go to RSA1 and delete the source System CMS.
3. With function module rsar_logical_system_delete delete the source system CMP:
I_LOGSYS CMPCLNT501
I_FORCE_DELETE X
I_NO_TRANSPORT X
I_NO_AUTHORITY X
4. In your productive BW (BWP) please create a transport request which contains all the source system dependent objects for CMP. Please check note 886102 scenario B3 step 2 for details.
5. In BWS, please recreate the source system to CMS and activate it but please do not replicate the datasources yet.
6. In BWS please maintain the table RSLOGSYSMAP and map CMP to CMS and import the transport request created in step 4.
Please be aware, that such a constellation happens mostly, if some steps are missed or are not carried out properly from consulting note 886102. Please get in touch with your basis colleagues and provide them this note, so the next time such a problem does not occur.

Encrypted blank disk image, actually encrypted or just password protected ?

I created 200 GB blank disk image on external drive using disk utility with options 128 bit encrytion. I have thought that the data copied to the disk is just password protected not encrypted as such.
I came to conclusion as when you encrypt Mac internal HDD, you can see encryption/decryption progress in Time Machine(system preferences) where as I do not see any encryption/decryption progress for encrypted disk image while copying huge data.
Anyone knows about it ?

As of OS X 10.7.4, Disk Utility had a bug that prevented it from creating an encrypted disk image with a password of more than 10 characters. I haven't checked recently to see whether that bug has been fixed, but from your report it seems not to have been. There is a workaround, but it's complicated.

Your disk could not be partitioned Problem

Hi, im having issues with installing windows on my mac, which it seems like most people do haha. I have a Macbook Pro 13-inch, mid 2012, with 10.8.4, with a 2.5Ghz Intel Core i5, a 4 GB 1600 Mhz DDR3, and a Intel HD Graphics 4000 512 MB. I got a download through my work for Windows 8 pro, 64-bit. I first downloaded it through a download manager but when I ran bootcamp assistant, and checked all three boxes, in the picture ().
I recieved an error trying to put it onto a 16gb usb. I redownloaded it through firefox, and when I tried again, it download windows 8 along with the software support. I set windows to 80 GB and set partition, but then I recieve an error that the disk could not be partioned ().
Any ideas what the issue could be?

Well along with 1000 other identical posts,
your disk needs to have unfragmented free space.
sometimes just shrinking the partition and then moving it back to full length works.
Not sure why the support software which has to be on FAT volume failed.
How do I use the Boot Camp 5 Support Software I downloaded from the web page?
The download file is a .zip file. Double click it to uncompress it.
Double-click the Boot Camp disk image.

Software to create a bootable disk image????

I need to create a bootable image. I have a ISO file, and need to create a bootable image to install software onto one of my servers. Is there software out there for a Mac that will allow me to create a bootable image?

Disk Utility doesn't make for bootable images. However, the command-line utility 'hdiutil' does (use it via Terminal.app. I've made bootable Linux DVD images before that way, but never a bootable Mac image.
I'm guessing that a bootable Mac image would involve making a disk image file, copying the necessary system files, blessing the image (in Terminal.app, type 'man bless' for more info), and then converting it to a regular ISO image.
Similarly, I think that all you need to make a bootable USB key/drive is to partition it GPT, copy the system files, and bless it. That said, you can probably use the OS X install media to install the OS on the USB key (it certainly works for USB hard drives) directly. You could even do that, then take an image of the drive (using dd) and convert it to an ISO with hdiutil.

Disk Utility - Controlling the icon view and colors of a disk image

Hello
I want to make a disk image that contains a drag-installer for my little app. I have a background image created for it with an arrow and I also put an alias of my Applications folder in it.
When I closed the disk image and copied it to another computer to open and test it, it was in icon view, but the icons were much smaller and the background image was ignored completely. Also, the left "toolbar" was visible, and I do nto want that to be visible.
How can I control these items so that they appear the way I want them to when the disk image is mounted?

Removing an encrypted disk image

A while ago, I created a 7gb encrypted read/write disk image and put some files in it. Now, recently, I removed the files in the encrypted disk image and copied them back into the regular HD. I erased the mounted disk image and now says it's back to 7gb.
How do I remove the disk image? It's still there in my documents folder. How do I melt it back into the HD space? I can remove it from the side bar on the disk utility page but it's still on my HD and I can still mount it to the finder. I enter my password and it mounts.
I want to get rid of that disk partition as I don't use it anymore. What do I do? Is it there forever and am I stuck with it?

You know I actually tried that before but the trash was hanging and hanging. I have it set to empty securely and I know it takes longer for secure empty but it was really long.
I'll try it again but is that normal? Does the encryption have anything to do with it?

Can you resize a encrypted disk image on a sparsebundle disk image?

I created a 50GB encrypted sparsebundle disk image on my desktop. I named it BOB and also named the encrypted disk image BOB.
It's now full.
I've just made it 60GB with Disk Utility.
I opened it but on trying to copy a 4GB file into it, I got a message saying my sparsebundle disk image is too small.
Note: Disk Utility says the following:
BOB sparsebundle is 61.4GB
mounted volume BOB is 52.1GB
Hope that's clear.
Any help would be most appreciated.

I created a 50GB encrypted sparsebundle disk image on my desktop.
hdiutil resize -size 60g BOB.sparsebundle
Result: "resize failed. File or directory does not exist"
You need to tell hdiutil where to find the target BOB.sparsebundle file. You could either specify a relative or absolute file path in the command itself, or else you could first change the current working directory to the Desktop. So if you wanted to pursue using Terminal, the second way would be to enter this command:
cd ~/Desktop
and then try the same hdiutil command again.
I'm not familiar with the hdiutil command, and I don't know if the above would work. My own feeling is that trying to manipulate an image file by experimenting with hdiutil entails a risk of corrupting the image file and losing its contents, and it is therefore essential to back up the image file first. But if you are going take the time and space needed for a backup, you might as well instead just create a new, empty 60GB (or larger!) sparsebundle disk image, and copy the contents of your old disk image into the new one. This would not involve any risks, and you'd end up with the larger disk image that you wanted. You could then delete the original, if you wished.

Disk-image files- file size

I have created a disk-image file on my backup hard drive to save important data. This has 2 folders of around 180mB. I am now trying to save more files and the message comes up that there is not enough free space to copy the file. Do these disk-images have a certain size and how can I determine this. Is there an option to create bigger image file sizes. I would ideally like to create disk-image files up to 4 gB and then burn to DVD for backup.

Yes, disk images have the size specified when they are created. You can't increase it, you need to create a new, larger disk image and copy the files to that.
You can see the size by selecting the disk image then File menu > Get Info, or by mounting the disk image, opening it and looking at the bottom of the window.
Use Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility to create a new disk image. There's a default choice for 4.7 GB (the capacity of a DVD).

Disk image plays poorly

The Good News:
I created 39 min video using Final Cut Express 2.
It plays back great in Final Cut Express 2!
I exported a Quick Time Movie and it plays back great in using QT!
I also exported a Quick Time movie-'Self contained' and it too plays back great in QT!
I brought the QT movies into iDVD 6 and it plays back just fine!
I created a disk image from iDVD 6 and the disk image was created without incident.
The Bad News:
When I played the disk image file using DVD Player (to check before burning) a small portion of the video (30 seconds or so) stutters and flutters a bit, pixels changing colors. I tried replacing the clips having this odd behavior in FCE2 with new clips in roughly the same location in the movie--and the same thing happens! 95% of the disk image file plays back fine in DVD player except for this one spot. This trouble spot is in the first 5min or so of the video.
Request for help:
I've learned on this forum to burn a disk image first to identify problems before burning. Well I have problems--now what?

This trouble spot is in the first 5min or so of the video.
Suggestion only: Drag and drop the DM to the trash. Empty it. Restart the computer. Verify you have plenty of available HD space and then try again to burn a second DM. If you get the very same results, address the first 5 mins. with alternate content.

Reboot the TC.. Sometimes you need to reboot the whole network.
This is what comes of Lion and then made worse in Mountain Lion of Apple not spending enough time to fix the bugs.
