Disk installation

Hello,
I have installed an IBM ultra star disk on my Sun Netra T1 (Solaris 5.8); which came from another Netra T1 .
But the system doesn't recognise my disk and the phase of boot
is not completed.
I have the following error message :
Drive not ready
Boot device : disk File & args
Fatal SCSI error at script adress 8 illegal instruction
Eavaluating : boot
Can't open boot device
ok
Next, I tried to create starting from a Solaris CDROM ; a boot block :
#installboot /usr/platfrom/'uname-i'/lib/fs/ufs/bootblk /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s0
but I received an error message: can't open I/O
I also forced to mount the disk with this command :
# mount -F /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s0 /mnt
but I have a warning :
Sense Key : not ready ( I have always the same Problem !!! )
The strangest is that the system detectes the IBM disk well.
In fact, I have the information product when I do a :
# format
format > inquiry
Moreover, the IBM disk is well detected on position Target 0:
ok probe-scsi
Primary UltraSCSI bus:
Target 0
Unit 0 Disk IBM DDYST1835SUN18G S94N
May I have your opinion about this issue.
Thanks.
Mina.

Hello Stephen,
In fact, the IBM disk was not working in the first Netra T1, it is why I have
put it into another Netra T1 in order to recover my data.
But I do not believe that this disk is dead because when I do a 'format' ; the system recognize the disk :
# format

  • Hard Disk Installation, from other OS with Grub 2

    Hi all.
I'm quite new to Arch, but not very new to Linux / Unix / BSD.
Currently - on my laptop (not a very new one ... ) -  I have other distro (One of the Canonical distro's ).
But I have few gigabytes left - and really want to try Arch.
Now I want - just for the fun of learning - to install from Hard Drive. (why waste a CD?)
The Arch Wiki has the page [wiki]Hard Disk Installation[/wiki], with the section "Chainload Grub from your Existing Bootloader".
This section explains about GRUB, not about GRUB 2. And my current  other distro uses Grub 2 .
    So ... my question is:
How to do it with GRUB 2?
          Thanks in advance.

    In a word, No.
THIS IS WHAT I REALLY NEEDED TO KNOW.
    1. Opening the iMac and installing your own HDD will immediately void the warranty.
THIS IS A GOOD ENOUGH REASON ALONE FOR ME NOT TO FIDDLE UNTIL THE WARRANTY HAS RUN OUT
    2. The two systems use completely different partitioning schemes for the drive, you cannot run a PPC version of Mac OS X on an Intel Mac, and you should not run a version of Mac OS X on a Mac that predates or is older than the version with which it was shipped (All new Macs ship with 10.5.6 or newer and cannot run 10.4).
    UNDERSTOOD.
    For good advice on transferring from PPC to Intel I recommend Kappy's;

THANKS FOR THIS TIP. I WILL LOOK AS AND WHEN.

  • I purchased snow leopard and got a disk with OSX 10.6.3 but my macbook with intel processor and 1 gig won't update.  It restarts but doesn't update after disk installs

I purchased snow leopard from online macstore in Australia and got a disk with OSX 10.6.3 but my macbook with intel processor and 1 gig won't update from 10.5.8.  It restarts but doesn't update after disk installs.  Do I need 10.6.0 to install first?

Insert the Snow Leopard DVD, restart your MacBook while holding down the C key, this should start your Mac from the optical drive instead of your hard drive. Choose your language and install Snow Leopard. When it's done and you've restarted on your new 10.6.3 system run software update to upgrade to 10.6.8. Done.

  • Disk Installation CS6 Master

I cannot find the set-up files to install the entire collection on disks 1,2,3. Auto-run is set in Windows7. None of the disks (3) have an overall install routine for ALL programs. Also cannot find link to directly contact customer support chat. Seems as though Adobe dosen't value its customers after receiving payment!

Install a Creative Suite 6 suite or standalone product from disc
Locate all installation media and serial numbers before you begin the installation process.
Before you begin, close all applications, including your web browser. Make sure you have administrative privileges or can validate as an administrator.
If you are installing as an upgrade, the installer will check your system to find the valid upgrade product. If it cannot find it, it will ask you to input the serial number of the product being upgraded. You can also install the software in trial, then input your new and previous serial numbers in the serialization screen shown during launch.
    1. Insert the Adobe Creative Suite 6 suite or standalone product Application DVD into your DVD drive.
    2. Double-click Set-up.exe (Windows) -- does not automatically launch --  or Install.app (Mac OS) to begin the installation
Note: Depending on your Autoplay settings in Windows, the Set-up.exe file may launch automatically.
    3. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.
    4. When prompted to enter a serial number, enter your Adobe Creative Suite 6 suite or standalone product serial number and complete the installation.

Adobe's single user license allows installation of a single product license on two machines (such as one work machine and one home machine) provided the software is used by the same individual and not concurrently on both machines.
Note: If you want to install the product on a third computer, you must first deactivate the software on one computer. To deactivate, choose Help > Deactivate.
Note: You may be asked to close conflicting processes in order to complete the installation. For more information on how to do this, go to http://www.adobe.com/go/learn_bgprocesses
If your product is on multiple discs, please wait for first disc to complete. Once completed, remove the first disc and insert the second disc in same DVD drive.
For more detailed information about troubleshooting your installation, go to http://www.adobe.com/go/customer_support.
Note: In order to install additional components or reinstall your software after your original installation, you will need access to the original installer (disc or the download from the web). Repair is not an available option.
Just in case you're interested, the download link that you so helpfully provided takes about 2 hrs to download! I'm absolutely thrilled that I purchased a product that has no active support, provides no linke for this most basic question, and has no on-line support in the Western Hemisphere or anywhere for clients that paid for the priviledge of being actively ignored.

  • Problem to startup from my disk installation

Hello... Now I use Panther and i want to install Tiger... But a stupid problem at first step: I can start from CD Installation!!! I put my disc of Tiger in my computer (G4 733 mgz) then I put on «C key» and restart... The result is always the same : my disk of Tiger get out of my computer!!! What’s the problem ???

    Hi Doinel,
Justin is right: the QuickSilver 733 originally shipped with a CD-R/RW drive only. It cannot read DVDs. Make sure you either have a CTO Combo drive or get the CD version of Tiger through the Media Exchange Program.

  • Update Trouble: Target Disk Installation?

Hey everyone... I've been trying to fix my laptop's installation of Tiger 10.4.6 for days now. I've gone through registry verification and repair. Hard drive repair... and even tried running external bootable cd solutions that only actually aggravated the situation as now my Powerbook G4 won't even get past the pinwheel and gray apple screen.
I managed to save my files from the harddrive so I know it's working fine, this through target disk mode, but when I tried to install the update to 10.4.6 again through target disk mode it promptly informed me I couldn't. What am I doing wrong? Is there a way around this problem? Or would any of you recommend another solution entirely?

Well, I ended up taking it into shop after trying just about everything to repair it and they told me it looked like the logic board was damaged, which surprised all of us as the notebook is fine and had a bizarre but steady decline into disfunctionality from last thursday to this wednesday night. If it had been software, I thank all of you here in the discussion boards because it's likely it would have been solved with your help, but it was hardware. Wee... anyway, case closed.

  • Disk Sharing- Multiple disk installation

This was already asked by another user here (with no response or resolution) and I have exactly the same problem.
I have an MBA(4,1), and I'm trying to install Adobe CS3 via Disk Sharing from an iMac. Installation proceeds through disk 1, but fails when I'm prompted to insert disk 2. The installation program never seems to recognize that disk 2 has been inserted into the iMac.
    Any ideas?

    Thanks, Mike.
I gave up on installing via Disk Sharing, too. In my case, CS3 was already installed on the iMac, so I just copied all the application files and files from /Library/Application Support/Adobe over to my MBA (not sure if that was necesary). That also worked like a charm.
    Thanks for your input.

  • Satellite Pro C650: Questions regarding Recovery disk installation

    Hi
can someone please give me a little bit of help?
I am having to buy and install a recovery disk for my Sat Pro C650.
When I get it do i just plug in and play it. I have also lost windows 7 which was pre-installed, or would I then need to also buy a new copy of windows 7 and install that too?
Will it then just go back to how it was when we brought it.
Or do I need to do something else after the recovery disk is installed.
    Thanks
    Tina

Hi Tina and welcome to our Toshiba community.
Here is my comment to your posting:
Every new Toshiba notebook is delivered with original preinstalled operating system and saved recovery image on HDD. There are two possibilities for OS installation:
-usage of HDD recovery installation and
-usage of recovery DVD that must be created by notebook owner.
Toshiba recommends creation of DVD disc. Why? If something goes wrong with HDD (defective) you can built-in new HDD and use recovery disc to have factory settings again. So please, if possible, create this recovery disc as soon as possible.
    Back to your questions:
    > When I get it do I just plug in and play it. I have also lost windows 7 which was pre-installed, or would I then need to also buy a new copy of windows 7 and install that too?
    Usage of DVD is simply:
Start your notebook and press F12 to enter boot options menu
Put recovery DVD into optical disc drive
Choose CD/DVD device on the menu and press ENTER
Follow what happen on the screen
    > Will it then just go back to how it was when we brought it.
    Yes.
    > Or do I need to do something else after the recovery disk is installed.
No. Everything will be installed automatically.
If you have more questions you are welcome.

  • Floppy Disk Installation

Today's newsletter wrote:The cd installer will be re-written. Along with that, the whole cd will be re-organized to add more functionality during an install. Most likely, support for floppy installs will slowly disappear.
Ya know, folks, not all of us happen to have CD burners handy! As a matter of fact, this is one of the reasons that I came to Arch in the first place... It allowed me to do an installation the only way I was able to. I'd really much prefer to have floppy support available in case for some reason I need to reinstall...

It's good you spoke up -- I wasn't sure if anybody out there actually used the floppies anymore.  Don't worry, we can still provide a floppy method, but it will be considered the "off-the-beaten-track" option, and may not be covered as well in the docs.  Right now the floppy- and CD-based installs are mostly identical, but in the future the CD install will change so the two will diverge.

  • MacBook won't eject disk during multi-disk installs, or after an install

Oy, will the problems never stop?
I have a dual-core MB 2.66 machine. I just put a fresh 500 gig drive and installed a retail copy of Snow Leopard. That seemed to go fine. Now I'm installing apps. And what's cropped up is that the machine refuses to eject disks after the install is complete.
I had to run the Adobe CS5 install twice because of this problem; luckily it ejected disks as it was supposed to the second time around. However, with iLife, iWork, Quicken, etc., after the install was done the disk refused to eject, and I had to hard-quit and eject the disk during next startup. And now Final Cut Pro is acting the same way...I use the install disk, then put Audio Content 1 disk in...it churns for two hours adding those files, then asks for Audio Content disk 2...but WON'T eject Disk 1!
I'm at my wits end. I never had these problems with Tiger...

If I understand you correctly, you have two disks with Tiger and you installed a new disk on which you install Snow Leopard & apps.
Personally I would not have done this project that way. I would have used CCC or SuperDuper to clone one of the Tiger disks on to the new disk and then test to be sure the disk is working correctly first. A clone is a bootable copy of a system disk that contains everything from where the device used to make it.
Then and then I would install Snow Leopard. After installing Snow Leopard, you could use Setup Manager to copy over your data from the Tiger disk.
With the problemas you are currently having it might be easier to start over this way.
