Disk Issues with UltraBay 2ndHD Sata Adapter

I'm having a bit of a wierd issue and I don't really know where to turn to. When I upgraded to my T61 I bought a Sata Ultrabay Drive adapter into which I stuck the old 100gb sata disk out of my R60 (which met an untimely end). The disk itself works fine, I have tried it on several machines, and have swapped it into the main drive slot in my laptop.
However, when connected through the ultra bay adapter things start behaving a little wierdly, the disk is often very slow to respond when browsing the filesystem and very regularly (several times a day) the disk disconnects and windows reports a 'delayed write failure', once this occurs the ultrabay adapter must be ejected and reinserted before the drive will be usable again.
Now here's were it get's even more interesting. I just reinstalled windows today and have been using the drive without issues. I installled the IntelStorageMatrix drivers, rebooted and within 10 minutes the drive began playing up. Since then I have tried the disks both in AHCI and Compatability mode set in the BIOS neither seem to make much of a difference.
Any thoughts on this problem, or what I could do try and remove the Intel Drivers to see if this resolves the issue? Also where and how do we officially approach the Lenovo technical team, there doesn't appear to be an overly useful way of filing/reporting and issue such as this.
Cheers,
Jonas

I was also having weird problems with my ultrabay adapter and hard drive. Like couldn't hot swap hard drives, a few minutes after booting up some of the function keys would stop responding (like easy eject, wireless radio control, power management).
After much troubleshooting, reinstalling clean and preload made no difference. I came across the thread about the adapter being incomplete and the potential need for a caddy to secure the hard drive. I didn't have a caddy, but put this foil type that originally was on the bottom of the wd 320 gb hard drive to protect the circuits on the bottom and installed into laptop.
Ever since everything work perfect, hot swap, function keys.
I think something was shorting out, and the foil on the hard drive prevents that. So I assume hard drive caddy would serve same purpose and also make the drive more secure in the adapter.

  • Hard Disk issue with Toshiba Satellite P755-S5390

Well, I'm at my wit's end on this one so after several months of searching for an answer I'm presenting this one to my fellow Toshiba users.
I have a Toshiba Satellite P755  that I purchased around March of 2012 so it is well out of warranty unfortunately. I'm having an odd issue that could just be a faulty hard drive but I wanted to see if anyone had any similar experiences with their Toshibas that might lead this to be a recurring issue with other Toshibas.
The first symptoms my laptop experienced were the computer locking up and the hard drive light staying lit constantly. This first happened right after I was using WIn 7 disk management to shrink the main partition so I could create a second partition. The exact step this happened at was when I had already shrunk the main partition and had just finished creating the second partition. It hadn't even refreshed the disk management screen when it just locked up completely.
I left it locked up for almost a half hour and then did a forced shutdown and when it came back up it was really slow and the hard drive light was staying lit constantly. Eventually it wouldn't even start up and the drive light still stayed on constantly (not even blinking, just solid on).
My first thought was obviously hard disk failure so I grabbed a spare that should have worked perfectly as it was just harvested from a perfectly fine little netbook. I popped the drive in and reinstalled Win 7 and it worked fine...for a few weeks. Then it did the exact same thing except this time it eventually just wouldn't recognize any boot media. I cursed my bad luck in having two failed hard drives and used an older one that I had spare that, as I recall, worked fine when I harvested it from the old laptop it came out of. It worked again...for a couple of days. Then it did the same thing as the first (hard drive light staying lit, not responding hardly at all). I even hooked all these little laptop hard drives up to my file servers SATA ports and they loaded fine and I was able to back stuff up.
My dilemma here is that I know it could just be that I was using old hard drives and maybe by some chance they all failed because they were old but I'd hate to buy a new hard drive if that's not the problem.
Has anyone had any similar experiences with their Toshibas? I even tried testing the RAM and even removing one module at a time. I also tried pulling the battery and running it straight from the charger thinking maybe it was shorting something out.
As an additional note. One interesting thing that happened after the third drive went bad was that I plugged in the original hard drive thinking I could further troubleshoot and it worked perfectly fine for about a month. It then proceeded to do the same thing again. That's about where I am now. The only other thing I did was yesterday when I pulled the battery and tried it. It did respond very well for at least long enough to almost finish the reinstall to factory partitions but it failed at the last minute and rebooted. It then loaded the Windows startup screen and locked up with the hard drive light staying lit solid.
Sorry for the novel but I wanted to make sure all my troubleshooting steps were documented so no one suggested those. My last step is to pop in another used drive and install Ubuntu and see what happens then.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

How did you reinstall Win 7 on the replacement drive?  Did you use the the Toshiba Recovery Disks you should have created as per the directions on page 74 of your User's Guide, following the recovery directions on page 76, and return your unit to its factory default out-of-the-box setup? What happens if you return your unit to its factory default set up? This is considered the gold standard test on whether you have a hardware problem/failure, as opposed to a driver-software-conflict problem.
You seem quite familiar with Windows Disk Management software, yet you don't mention running the built in disk 'Error-checking' utility.
If you believe you may be suffering from some kind of hard drive problems, this would seem a logical step. You can access this utility by clicking on 'Start' -> click on 'Computer' -> right click on 'C:' drive -> click on 'Properties' -> click on the 'Tools' tab -> under 'Error-checking' click the 'Check now...' button -> put check marks on both the 'Automatically fix....' and 'Scan for...' options -> click the 'Start' button. The utility will inform you it can't be run now and ask if you want to schedule for the next restart, agree and restart your computer. Depending on the size of your hard drive and the problems the utility may encounter this could take from 20 minutes to several hours.
Let us know what happens. Good luck.

  • Performance issues with the Tuxedo MQ Adapter

We are experimenting some performance issues with the MQ Adapter. For example, we are seeing that the MQ Adapter takes from 10 to 100 ms in reading a single message from the queue and sending to the Tuxedo service. The Tuxedo service takes 80 ms in its execution so there is a considerable waste of time in the MQ adapter that we cannot explain.
Also, we have looked a lot of rollback transactions on the MQ adapter, for example we got 980 rollback transactions for 15736 transactions sent and only the MQ adapter is involved in the rollback. However, the operations are executed properly. The error we got is
    135027.122.hqtux101!MQI_QMTESX01.7636.1.0: gtrid x0 x4ec1491f x25b59: LIBTUX_CAT:376: ERROR: tpabort: xa_rollback returned XA_RBROLLBACK.
I am looking for information at Oracle site, but I have not found nothing. Could you or someone from your team help me?

    Hi Todd,
We have 6 MQI adapters reading from 5 different queues, but in this case we are writing in only one queue.
Someone from Oracle told us that the XA_RBROLLBACK occurs because we have 6 MQ adapters that are reading from the same queues and when one adapter finds a message and try to get that message, it can occurs that other MQ Adapter gets it before. In this case, the MQ adapter rollbacks the transaction. Even when we got some XA_RBROLLBACK errors, we don´t lose message. Also, I read something about that when XA sends a xa_end call to MQ adapter, it actually does the rollback, so when the MQ adapter receives the xa_rollback call, it answers with XA_RBROLLBACK. Is that true?
However, I am more worried about the performance. We are putting a request message in a MQ queue and waiting for the reply. In some cases, it takes 150ms and in other cases it takes much more longer (more than 400ms). The average is 300ms. MQ adapter calls a service (txgralms0) which lasts 110ms in average.

  • Issue with SAP PI FTP Adapter

    Hi All,
We are seeing an issue with the FTP Adapter Communication Channel in SAP PI 7.1. When the communication channel is connecting to a FTP Server and if the connection request timeout ( ex: SFTP Server down ) we see a connection error .
However the overall communciation channel status doesnot refelct it and it is still in GREEN status. The status being wrong doesnt raise an adapter CCMS alert. Also we are seeing that the communication channel stops all connection attempts after the failure for that communication channel.
Wanted to check if anyone has seen or encountered the issue and how did you get past the problem.
    Thanks in advance..
    Arunava

    Hi,
Could you please let me know whether it is sender communication channel or receiver ?
    Also please check below.
    1. Java messaging system queues are free or hanged ?
    2. Please mention time out paramter in the channel.
    3. Did you try Start/Stop the channel.
    Please get back to me.

Please note that SFTP adapter is being used here and file contains encrypted data which is being sent outside the organization network.

  • Startup disk issues with a new SSD

Ok so last week I had what I thought was a hard drive failure. In disk utility I could not see the drive and thought it must be corrupt. It's been on my mind to buy an SSD anyway and so bit the bullet and bought a Samsung EVO 840 500GB.
After installing the SSD with the OSX that shipped with my Macbook Pro 13 Inch Nov 2013 everything seemed to be ok. Then I decided after testing to upgrade to Mavericks 10.9.2 and still everything was fine. Now after going to the trouble of installing all my software and tranfering my backups, every time I start up the machine I'm getting the flashing question mark folder. If I go into internet recovery and startup disk > restart everything is fine. But if I go idle it beachballs, if I restart or start I get the flashing folder.
I have done everything I can think of:
    1. Internet recovery (Cmd + "R") - tried this several times and disk verifies as ok.
    2. System preferences > Startup Disk - tried setting this, made no difference
    3. Reset the PRAM (Cmd + Option + "R" + "P") - tried this several times to no avail
    4. Diagnostic hardware test (Hold down "D") - ran the test and all hardware is ok
Is there something I am missing here? I've even took the mac apart and double checked the connection on the SATA, seems to be fine?
    Cheers in advance
    Pete

Did you try a SMC reset?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
Also consider taking the SSD out and installing it in an enclosure.  Then connect it to the MBP and see if it will boot from it externally.  If it does, then there is an internal connection issue.
    Ciao.

  • AirPort Disk - Issue with Windows Vista Ultimate

I setup an AirPort Extreme network, with a shared USB Drive and so far I've only found one issue.
When attempting to create new files and renaming them, or rename pre-existing files on the shared USB Drive using Windows Vista Ultimate I get the following Yes/No dialog:
"The Z:\ folder does not exist. The file may have been moved or deleted. Do you want to create it?"
Then there's information about the mapped drive. If I click "Yes" in the dialog, then the dialog goes away for a moment then pops back up. I can't create a new file directly on the shared AirPort Disk, nor can I modify or create and rename new files on the disk without getting stuck in the loop.
I can, however, create a new file locally on the Vista box and copy it up, and I can even create a new directory locally with files and copy them up without issue.
Now, the issue does not happen when I use my MacBook or my XP machine. This issues seems to be a Windows Vista issue only, and I haven't seen anyone else reporting it.
Here's information about the disk share implementation:
    - The disk is password protected (turning on accounts really breaks the ability of Windows Vista to work with the disk)
    - The disk is Mac Formatted with Case Sensitivity, and Journaling
This works like a top for OS X and Windows XP, just not Vista. I'd like to getting working properly for all machines.
If anyone's got some advice on this one, I'd love to hear it.

Here's a little more information regarding the issue:
    - It's an AirPort Extreme Wireless Router with Firmware ver. 7.1
    - The Windows Vista Ultimate PC has the most recent Microsoft patches to-date, and has the most recent Apple Airport Utilities Software to-date.

  • Issue with endSeparator in File Adapter

    Hi,
I have to load an (EDI) File that looks like this when I open it with a text editor:
    BEG00NEC3315858400061226…CURCYUSD…PERBD etc.
I was told that the Segment End Separators (...) represent HEX 85. My understanding is that the endSeparator in the File Sender Adapter Content Conversion has to look like: '0x85'. But this does not work. I also tried out the following without success:
    '0x0085'
Can somebody tell me what I have to use for the endSeparator?
    Thanks in advance.

    hi,
If adapter monitoring shows up and runnning then go to tcode : SXMB_MONI
check the message status...it will explain what are the steps gone through the..
If message is not coming then the problem in File content conversion...if any problem in FCC it won't shows any error message in Adapter monitoring.
You need to check throughly your FCC parameters are passed correctly...if FCC parameters are correct file will pick and it will converit into SOAP-XMl format...otherwise no message will appear.

    Venu.

  • Issue with overwriting msg using adapter module when WSS enabled in SOAP CC

    Hi guys,
I have a SOAP->RFC scenario where on the sender side I'm using an adapter module. This adapter module should modify the message content based on some conditions. Is there any workaround for this?

  • Strange issue with backlight on Sat A60

When connecting to a datacard g3 modem the backlight switches off. I read this could be a problem with the FL inverter but it only happens when this device connects to the internet. Connecting via the ethernet or wireless it works. When the laptop is rebooted the screen is fine. Any suggestions

    Hi
Strange. I hear the first time about such problems.
In my opinion if the FL inverter has a malfunction the backlight should stay off everytime.
Is it possible to discern something on the screen if the backlight switches off?
Possibly only the screen brightness was changed to a lower level. In this case you should try to use the FN+F7 key combination.
But its very unusual that this happens during using this card.
The problem is that this card was not designed by Toshiba. Did you try to contact the card manufacture? If not so I would recommend asking the card manufacture support for any further details and help.

I have an issue with Sender File FCC Adapter. The file being picked is of type TXT and it is tab seperated. The first line contains the field names and from next line onwards we have values for those fields.
The field names and field values are tab seperated. Even inserting a single letter in some field value manually disrupts the whole setup & alignment of the TXT file and the Sender File CC is unable to pick up the file from the shared folder. If the first file is errorenous and after that a correct TXT file is posted, it fails to pick up the correct file as it is trying to pick the errorenous file first.
    The Error thrown is :
"Conversion of file content to XML failed at position 0: java.lang.Exception: ERROR converting document line no. 2 according to structure 'ABCD':java.lang.Exception: ERROR in configuration / structure 'ABCD.': More elements in file csv structure than field names specified!"
    I have two questions:
    1. Is there a way to handle such a scenario? For e.g., the errornous TXT file gets picked but throws error in PI.
    2. Is there an alternative that the sender FCC channel picks up the correct files and filter out the errorneous ones ? ?
    Thanks,
    Arkesh

    Hi Arkesh,
I think you are passing more number of fields than expected. Please check paramters defined and send the data accordingly.
In the processing parameters tab of sender file adapter, you have an option called Archive faulty source files, below to that you would have option to enter the " Directory for Archiving files with Errors".
    I hope this helps you....
    Thanks,

  • Ipod classic syncing issues with itunes

My IPod classic wont sync anymore and I fear the harddrive might be shot. the ipod deleted all my music randomly, I have restored it but now I cant get it to sync properly with itunes.
Itunes recognises it, and starts syncing (in manual and auto) however it freezes a few songs in and doesnt get any further. When I unplug the ipod, the error message comes up saying ipod sync failed, and lists a number of songs which it could not sync (different songs every time)
Is the problem with itunes or with the ipod harddrive?
Appriciate any help with this one,
    thanks,
    Phil

    Hi pddurie,
If you are having potential disk issues with your iPod, you may find the following article helpful:
