Disk keeps ejecting

My son bought the family pack snow leopard and every time I put it in the disk drive, it ejects back out and won't let me install.

HI,
Make sure the disk is free of fingerprints and smudges.
How to clean a DVD
Repair disk permissions and then see if the Mac rejects the disk.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Mac mini mid 2010 hard disk keeps ejecting itself

My mac mini is set up with two sata disks installed, one is a 128 ssd and the other a 1tb hdd.  Since installing mountain lion, the hdd keeps ejecting itself, and i get a message saying - this hard disk was not properly ejected. then i wont find the disk in finder, or disk utility!.  I then have to remove the hdd from the mac mini and plug it into a usb caddy, which finds it no problem, and then when i put it back in the mac mini, it works again!! so the disk is not faulty i dont think.  It then works for a period as random as a few hours, to a few weeks and then i will randomly get the "this disk was not ejected properly" message and it has again dissapeared.  I use the mac mini as a media centre and it isnt really being pushed hard when the failure happens.
Anyone have any ideas as to whats wrong?

Hello, Sorry for the late reply.
When i open console after the ejection i get the message:
01/11/2012 22:32:42.000 kernel[0]: Failed to issue COM RESET successfully after 3 attempts. Failing...
    01/11/2012 22:32:42.000 kernel[0]: disk1s2: no such device.
Hope this gives a clue, i'm tearing my hair out over it.  there is absolutely nothing wrong with the disk itself.
If i do a full shutdown and restart, it finds the disk again no problems, but if i simply choose to restart from the menu, it does not find the disk again.
Thanks for any help you can give on this.  I have only been experiencing this issue since i upgraded to mountain lion.

    I've got a dane-elect multi-card reader.
I insert my canon 7D's compact flash card, delete a single picture,

and I get a message saying that the disk was not ejected properly.
I just did a verify disk again, got this as an error:

any idea what could be causing this?

I'm assuming this is an external disk connected directly to your computer.  In that case, it's likely to be a loose or faulty cable connecting the drive to your machine.  When it wiggles a little, the connection gets lost.  (That also could cause corruption in your Time Machine backups when it happens in the middle of a backup...  better repair that hard drive using Disk Utility!)  You may be able to make it work more reliably by changing cables, or by leaving the machine untouched on a table or desk while the backups is running so it doesn't get bumped.
If the cable isn't the problem, it's possible the disk itself (or the enclosure it's in) is faulty, or that the port on your computer that you're connecting the drive to is damaged.

  • Why does my disk keep ejecting

when i insert my disk into the computer it reads it then automaticl ejects the disk.  How do i make the computer ready the disk.  I have an imac early 2008 with intel core i2 adn 4 gb of ram

If it is just that one disk, then it may be dirty or scratched. Use a clean damp cloth to gently wipe off fingerprints and dirt in a radial (center to edge) motion, not in a circular motion.
If this happens with all disks, your optical drive may be broken. You would then either need to replace it or obtain an external optical drive.

  • Deleted safari on accident and reinstall disk keeps ejecting

  • Mac Keep Ejects Installation Media, Hard disk is empty, How to install OSX

I installed Ubuntu in my Mac Mini, Later my apple wireless keyboards pairing is not working and to pair i need to have OS X installed, since no osx installed, to boot i used to press the option key. So now I formated linux, now my hard disk is empty no partition or nothing. But the problem is my mac mini keeps ejecting OS X installation media (original dvd set came with mac mini) but I can boot from ubuntu live cd. How can I solve this problem. Some one told me to reset my pram, but I was unable to do it. Pressing Command Option P R does nothing. Please help me out. without my machine working I'm like a dead man.

Yeah I managed to get one, and tried c key to boot from the disk. It doesn't work. The current status of my machine is. My hard drive is clean (unpartitioned space, I formated it). Still Mac Ejects OS X installation media which came with the mac mini, But I can boot using Ubuntu,Solaris, etc disks and I can install them. How can I install OS X in this situation. Since I'm doing my PG course in Computer Science, the system is an urgent stuff for me.. Please help me out.
And why mac is ejecting the actual original installation media even when it's taking all other disks ?? I tried two different disks to make sure if it's the trouble of the disk, but that's not the case. I only ejects OS X disks and ejects all OSX Disks (i tried tiger disk, and leopard disk)

  • My MBP keeps ejecting my install disks!

I thought I'd make backup copies of my SL disks, but the Machine keeps ejecting them. It reads other disks just fine, including the Tiger install disks off an iMac.
The SL disks will read fine in the iMac, but the MBP doesn't want them!
And once I've solved that, how do I copy them? On the iMac I keep getting the installer if I click on the disk icon.

The SL disks are DL DD DVD's. Perhaps your optical drive is having problems reading those. Take it to an Apple store or AASP.
How to Make a Non-Commercial DVD copy of MAC OS X
    Making a DVD Image:

Step 1. Insert the retail Mac OS X Install DVD into your drive.

Step 2. Launch Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities).

Step 3. In Disk Utility, you will notice a white pane on the left hand side. In the pane, select the Mac OS X Install DVD by clicking on it once.

Step 4. Click New Image on the Disk Utility toolbar.

Step 5. A dialog box will appear. Give the new image a name. I used 'Mac OS X Install DVD'. Select the destination where you wish to save it. Leave Image Format at Compressed (default) and Encryption at None (default).

Step 6. Click Save to begin creating the image.

Step 7. Once your image has been created DO NOT mount it. Leave the image alone and proceed to the next section.

Burning the Image:

Step 1. Launch Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities).

Step 2. Click Burn on the Disk Utility toolbar (upper left).

Step 3. Navigate to where you saved the DVD image created in the previous section. Click on the image file, then click the Burn button. Do not drag and drop the image file into Disk Utility during this step.

Step4. Insert a DVD when prompted and proceed to Burn it. (use good quality media).

I am also having a similar issue. I used Adobe Lightroom and my whole display goes black. Even my laptop screen and the lights on the keyboard go black. I can still hear the fan running, so I assume it is just the display. This is my first Mac and I have had nothing but issues. I think I am going back to Windows after this.

  • Superdrive keeps ejecting disk on Mavericks sign on.

I've just installed a fresh copy of Mavericks and have a strange problem.
My Apple Mac Pro "Eight Core" 2.4 (2010/Westmere) boots up fine until it gets to the Mavericks sign on screen and if there is a disk inside the superdrive then ejects it. I have 1 superdrive and a MCE Blu-Ray drive and both behave in the same manner.
So, I booted up from my old LM and it doesnt do it, I cant ever recall my Mac doing this in LM, Lion or SL, Leopard.
My Mavericks install has various software installed on it and thought it may be one of the apps playing up and causing the disk to eject. I formated a new drive and installed Maverick on it and it still ejected the disk.
So, software ruled out! I set about resetting my NVRAM & PRAM still didn't cure it.
Booted up in Safe Mode and still the same.
Ran Apple Hardware Test (AHT) no problems found.
Ran pernissions repair and still keeps doing it.
I know the simplest thing would be not to have a disk inside the drive but it's little things like this that eeeeerrrrrr!!!!!! you know what I mean!
I'm out of ideas, anyone else have this problem? and help?

  • IMac Bootcamp keeps ejecting Windows 7 installtion disk

    Hi,
I have a Macbook Pro which used to have Windows 7 on via Bootcamp but the Windows partition started crashing so in the end I uninstalled windows using Bootcamp reverting my hard drive to just one partition. Now I'm attempting to do the same thing again. I followed the correct procedures but for some reason my mac keeps ejecting the Windows 7 installation disk. It's the same disk I used when I first installed Windows. Any ideas?

    This is for UltimateRainbow
On the OSX side, if you put in the Windows DVD, can OSX read the DVD?

  • Keeps Ejecting PC Disk & Apps Sometimes Cover Desktop on Launchpad

Hi. I'm loving OS X Lion and I like the gesture to bring up Launchpad and I can't wait for all apps to have fullscreen abilities so you could just swipe between apps. I still believe the gestures that Lion replaced specifically the reverse scrolling and on finger swipe is only intuitive if you're actually using a multitouch screen like maybe an angel adjustable multitouch iMac or multitouch Cinema Display which hopefully will be come out in the near future (with option to use the usual keyboard, mouse, trackpad) but I'm kept it on default, maybe it'll grow on me and may actually be more intuitive even for the desktop. I also can't wait for all apps to use Versions. I do hope they change their theme, the colors are too subdued. It's a subdued Aqua. Launchpad's metallic icon is good. I think Apple should change the theme to "subdued Aqua" to anodized aluminum to give icons and UI elements more distinction. Sometimes the color is too subdued, you think it's been click or is not available.
After upgrading to Lion though, sometimes the apps in Launchpad would cover the Desktop on top. I'm not sure if it's because my apps is always maximized (not really in fullscreen mode) or it's a glitch or a bug. If it's not a glitch, what's the solution for this?
Also, I'm not sure if it's Windows on Boot Camp or Lion but my PC DVD keeps ejecting itself which it hadn't done before. Any solution for this as well?
    Thank you in advance.

  • DVD-r read error; keeps ejecting burnt backup disk

    Hi all,
I'm running a Dual 1.8 G5 with OS 10.4.8. After 3 years of use, I had some serious hard drive errors and had to reinstall the OS, but not before backing up my system on DVD-rs using Disk Utility. I checked them on my old system and they read fine; however they aren't reading now that I've reinstalled the OS; as I insert the disk, the drive hums as if it's reading the disk and then ejects it.
Any suggestions? I'm at my wits end.
    Thanks

  • Time Machine backups cause error message "Disk No Ejected Properly"

I have a 2011 iMac using OS X version 10.9.4.  I have had to change the external hard drive used with my Time Machine to get more storage.  Every time the Time Machine backs up (every hour), I get the message "Disk Not Ejected Properly"  Eject "FreeAgent GoFlex Drive" before disconnecting or turning it.
I am concerned about any damage that is happening because of this message.  I researched this on this forum and other users had a similar problem.  I tried 2 of the easier solutions: 1) make sure none of the boxes are checked in System Energy Saver (ie. put hard disks to sleep when possible, etc.)  and 2) buy and connect a USB hub that has it's own power supply to keep the external hard drive powered constantly.  Neither of these solutions has worked for me.  I still get the message.  So I have two questions.  First, is damage being done to my computer because it "thinks" that I did not properly eject the disc.  And, second, is there anything else I can do to stop this message besides not using the freeagent disc?

I had the same problem.  it turned out to be a cable issue.  Contact seagate for replacement cable.

  • Time Machine Disk Self-ejects, and more

I'm using a 1 TB FreeAgent GoFlex external USB drive as my Time Machine back up. Half the time it works perfectly, other times it suddenly ejects itself and I get a message about how the disk was ejected improperly. If I pop out the USB cable, then plug it back in, the disk remounts and goes on as before. Other times it will begin backing up, and seems to get stuck in "back up" mode. It keeps evaluating the main hard drive until it's time to shut down for the day. I can't make it stop. If I go ahead and shut down, the computer quits everything down to the bare desktop, then locks up. If I shut down while not stuck in "evaluating" the computer shuts down normally.
How do I make the disk quit self ejecting?
How do I keep it from getting stuck "evaluating" the disk?

I have a similar problem which only recently developed with my Seagate FreeAgent Desktop Classic. The drive ejects only during TM backups. Here's the message from the TM widget:

have reformatted the external drive which has not helped.
No problem if TM is switched off. No disk errors with Apple's native disk utility, however Seagate's drive manager reports that "the selected drive failed its most recent diagnostic test" but does not provide any further information.
Have sent an email to seagate and awaiting their reply. Drive still under warranty.
