Disk Malfuction

Hello,
A friend of mine has an eMac 700 MHz, and he keeps on getting the rainbow wheel frequently while using his computer. I have ran Onyx and cleared all caches, ran scripts, and repair permissions, but still it keeps on popping up. The ball usually stays up for five minutes, even if no programs are open. It also happens when the computer starts up; it will show the desktop picture, but the wheel will just spin for a while. At times the computer it even seems to stop responding at all - yesterday when I was taking a look at it, we had to push the power button for a force shut down at least 5 to 6 times. Moreover, during start up, the computer will come to the screen with the apple logo and the little wheel spinning below it, and it will just remain on that screen and won't move past it (trust me, we waited for an hour or so) - once again, force shut down.
I ran Disk Warrior and fixed a number of errors, but it said that the directory could not be rebuilt because of a "Disk Malfunction" and a comparison between the new and old directories could now be shown because the directory was too severely damaged. (I started up from the CD, BTW.)
Do all these problems seem directory-related? Any solutions?
Thanks!

Haha, yeah, I really think that would solve the problem, but the only problem with that is my friend has so many, literally, some documents, programs with valuable information, and 4-6,000 pictures, maybe even more, and tons of music - so our problem ultimately is backing all that up.

  • Ipod disk/connect malfuction

For a long period now, I found my Ipod to be acting strange, doing things like refuseing to play songs until I forcefuly restart the Ipod. I tried resetting it's firmware useing Itunes, but it didn't fix the problem. Today it seems my Ipod just got worse for no apparent reason.
My Ipod now refuses to boot up at all, giving me the 'sad ipod' screen. I read up on the page about it and want to ensure this is not a hardware issue by checking software issues first, espically since my Ipod was working just fine not even two hours ago.
My Ipod refuses to go into Disk mode. I managed to get it like that for only 10 seconds before I lost it and can't get it back again even though I forcefuly reboot it and followed the instructions exactly. If I try to plug my ipod into the wall, I only get the 'sad ipod' screen and it reboots endlessly, yet if I plug it into my USB port, it boots up, gives me the 'sad ipod' screen, then gos to the 'critical charge' screen (non-animated black and white chargeing screen) which it stays at for a minute or two, reboots, sad ipod screen again, back to charge screen, over and over again.
My Ipod refuses to go into either disk mode or diagnostic mode now and I'm running short of options. Is there any other way to force it into disk mode, or flush it's CMOS if it has one or whatnot? If I have to open it I will since I no longer have a warrenty on it which I could sent it back to be fixed.
I'm a skilled computer technician and can do advanced things such as eraseing the master boot record etc. if I have to as long as I can get the Ipod to get into disk mode long enough to operate.

    Hello,
If a sad iPod icon or an exclamation point and folder icon appears on your iPod’s screen, or with sounds of clicking or HD whirring, it is usually the sign of a hard drive problem and you have the power to do something about it now. Your silver bullet of resolving your iPod issue – is to restore your iPod to factory settings.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
If you're having trouble, try these steps at different levels one at a time until the issue is resolved. These steps will often whip your iPod back into shape.
Make sure you do all the following “TRYs”
    A. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    B. Try another FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    C. Try another FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    D. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    E. Try to download and install the latest version of iPod software and iTunes
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
For old and other versions of iPod updater for window you can get here
    http://www.ipodwizard.net/showthread.php?t=7369
    F. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    G. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
If none of these steps address the issue, you may need to go to Intermediate level listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the lists to see if that is what keeping iPod from appearing on your computer in order for doing the Restore.
    Intermediate Level
    A. Try to connect your iPod with another computer with the iPod updater pre-installed.
    B. Still can’t see your iPod, put it in Disk Mode and connect with a computer, instead of doing a Restore on iPod Updater. Go and format the iPod instead.
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
    For Window computer
    Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
    Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, e.g.“HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool”.

    C. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    Tips
    a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iTunes 7.
    b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
    c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”

    Advance Level
    A. Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
    iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". The scroll wheel will not function while in diagnostic mode. For further details on Diagnostic mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/
Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.
    B. Format your iPod with a start disk
I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.
Consider setting up a mail-in repair for your iPod http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
Or visit your local Apple Retail Store http://www.apple.com/retail/
In case your iPod is no longer covered by the warranty and you want to find a second repairing company, you can try iPodResQ at your own risk
    http://www.ipodresq.com/index.php
Just in case that you are at the following situation
    Your iPod warranty is expired
You don’t want to pay any service charges
You are prepared to buy a new one
You can’t accept the re-sell value of your broken iPod
Rather than leave your iPod as paper-weight or throw it away.
You can try the following, but again, only do it as your last resort and at your own risk.
Warning !!!! – It may or may not manage to solve your problem, and with a risk that you may further damage your iPod, which end up as an expensive paper weight or you need to pay more higher repairing cost. Therefore, please re-consider again whether you want to try the next level
    Last Resort Level
    1. . Disconnecting the Hard Drive and battery inside the iPod – Warning !! Your iPod warranty will be waived once you open the iPod.
In Hong Kong there are some electronic shops offering an iPod service for Sad iPod, the first thing they do is to open up the iPod’s case and disconnecting the battery and the Hard Drive from the main board of the iPod. Wait for 5-10 minutes and reconnecting them back. The reason behind which I can think of is to do a fully reset of a processor of the iPod. In case you want do it itself and you believe that you are good on fixing the electronics devices and have experience to deal with small bits of electronic parts, then you can read the following of how to open the iPod case for battery and HDD replacement (with Quicktimes)
    http://eshop.macsales.com/tech_center/index.cfm?page=Video/directory.html
2.Press the reset button on the Hard Drive inside the iPod – Suggestion from Kill8joy
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2438774#2438774
Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Therefore, I agree with suggestion to have it fixed by a Pro.

I am not suggesting that you should follow as well, but just read them as your reference. You are the person to make the call.
Finally, I read a fair comments from dwb, regarding of slapping the back of the iPod multiple times
Quote “This has been discussed numerous times as a 'fix'. It does work, at least for a while. In fact I remember using the same basic trick to revive Seagate and Quantam drives back in the mid to late 1980's. Why these tiny hard drives go bad I don't know - could be the actuator gets stuck in place or misaligned. Could be the platter gets stuck or the motor gets stuck. 'Stiction' was a problem for drives back in the 80's. Unfortunately the fix can cause damage to the platter so we temporarily fix one problem by creating another. But I know of two instances where a little slap onto the table revived the iPods and they are still worked a year or more later.”UnQuote

  • 815M Pro (MS-6334) - how to use ATA/100 disk?

    Western Digital website FAQ states:

A:Yes, the HDD will not run in UATA/100 mode but instead is a slower compatible

I have a Fujitsu MPG3102AT 10248MB ATA/66 disk being used successfully as Primary Master (no Primary slave).
CD-RW as Secondary Master (no Secondary slave).
I've tried to replace the Fujitsu with a Western Digital WD400BB 40GB EIDE (Ultra ATA/100) disk but when I power on the BIOS starts the memory test but machine powers off after a few seconds.
I can't find any BIOS setting which helps.
Can anyone advise how to get this disk to work?

You mean, that it is during detection of ATA-devices computer powers off? If that should happen, I would never use a WD disk on this system. Halting is one thing, but powering off like that is unknown to me. Seems dangerous, if it is true.
yep its possible, can personaly confirm it.
"I would never use a WD disk on this system"
well dont worry about that, that happends with old WD HDD's only. WD is still TOP brand. like you probably know good brands has bad times sometimes, like IBM before they was buyed by HITACHI( 1st revision of IBM Desktar series). Quantum(Maxtor at thease days) has pretty malfuction series also like 1st SE series, MAXTOR with flat series lots of defective also, Seagate also with 7200.7 2nd revision IDE 80GB models lots of defectives(43 of them caput for 3 moutns personally happend to object where im support still remember numbers.....) and so on... every brand has their bad moments.

I have a 250W PSU and don't believe that just replacing the Fujitsu by the Western Digital drive could cause a power problem. I just have a floppy, HDD, CD-RW and a PCI graphics card on the motherboard.
The system works fine with the Fujitsu drive.
The Western Digital drive is not faulty - it works fine in another machine.
I'm inclined to go with the theory about ATA66 - hope someone can provide the Ultra ATA Management utility!
Any further ideas are very welcome.
yep im thinking the same thats why didnt recommend others i also didnt think PSU overload with WD instead Fudjitsu... gona search alile for this util(its pretty old)

random instant unexpected power offs are caused by either an overheating CPU or an overloaded PSU
yep in most of cases yes, but dont think PSU overload can be coused by replacing Fudjitsu HDD with WD HDD.
he also dont have "random" shutoff" his shutdown is always at same place when HDD is began detected(not random).
about overheating CPU also cant be.. CPU is at full load at post??? and overheating but this happend only with WD HDD and PC shutdown?(dont think so) dont forgot all is alright with other HDD Fudjitsu HDD. if it is CPU heating or PSU should happend with other HDD(Fudjitsu) also not only with WD HDD.

  • IPod Error Message: "The disk could not be read from or written to."

    Hello!
I was syncing my sister's video iPod (30GB) and this error message pops up "Attempting to copy to the disk. "SARAH'S IPO" failed. The disk could not be read from or written to."
I have restored it three times already, but once it starts putting the music and files back onto the iPod it pops up with that error message. I have updated to the latest version of iTunes and iPod software available. My OS is Windows XP.
Is this something serious? Will I be able to fix it myself or will I need to send it in to be fixed by Apple? Will that be expensive? We didn’t get the Apple replacement plan. D=

  • Stuck: Need Disk repair but DVD drive dead and only have USB 1

[1 Ghz flat-panel iMac with USB 1 ports (no USB 2) and also Firewire 400]
I noticed a strange discrepancy (small but concerning) between the size of a folder on hard drive (folder of all mp3's with no subfolders) and the backup of the same folder on a mounted thumb drive.
(The size difference was not due to any invisible .DS_Store files and both folders are displayed in List view format.)
    Disk Utility reports three things:
    1. Incorrect number of thread records
    2. Volume Bit Map needs minor repair
    3. Checking volume information.
Volume free block count",0)   [I might have mangled this line]
(It should be 13438611 instead of 13437937)
Here is the GOOD (but these are useless as explained under the "Bad"):
    - I have a Tiger 10.4 boot DVD for a repair ==>but see below
    - I also have a Disk Warrior disk (never used)
    Here is the BAD:
    - My built-in optical drive [Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-105] is -- I now discover - defunct and DEAD - it does not run the Tiger Boot DVD (in pristine shape).
    - I bought an external SuperDrive (unopened) but I believe no boot from USB 1 is possible in PowerPC so a SuperDrive with USB 1 is useless.
    Questions:
1.) Is there any way to boot from some external source (optical drive is DEAD) to run Disk Utility and/or Disk Warrior? -- I see none in this case! (gulp).
2.) More importantly (and this is my fundamental concern): Do the three Disk Utility hard drive issues constitute any direct threat to the integrity of my files?
I have almost everything backed up to duplicate thumb drives over these many months as standard practice.
Are these Disk Utility errors fully isolated to hard drive directory-keeping...or do these directory damage errors pose the possibility of mangling or harming my files or their metadata (filesize, etc.).
Put another way, when files are backed-up from a hard drive under the Disk Utility reports above, do they remain unharmed and undamaged by the situations reported by Disk Utility?
    Thanks,
    Bill

    Jeff and Michael,
Thank you both for your generous and thoughtful input.
Michael: As I slept on it overnight, the exact same idea occurred to me of trying a Target Mode to the iMac from my Lion MacbookPro (I have it but stupidly have yet to use it much!).
I did buy a Firewire 800 (MBP) to Firewire 400 (iMac) adapter cable a few months ago!
CONCERN: Would there be potential compatibility issues or risks in running Lion 10.7's Disk Utility against the hard drive of the old OSX 10.4 iMac in Target Disk Mode?
==> Assuming an "it's ok" answer to the Target Disk question, would the majority of users agree that the Target Disk Mode would be more prudent than running:
fsck -fy   in Single User Mode
I have never done fsck -fy before especially because I was under the impression there were issues with Journaled drived but from what I have read today...it looks ok to do)
Jeff: Can't thank you enough for the reference to the OTW DVD drive. I might first invest $10 in one of those DVD lens cleaner disks that I've read about. It's probably not the issue or else why would the drive read commercial Music cds perfectly well!
    Thanks,

  • I have formatted my SSD and hard drive.... I am running a clean install from disk of 8.1 pro. I cannot determine if it is a compatibility

issue or hardware issue. I had run a memory test and scan disk for bad sectors from the bios. As administrator, I enabled automount  in diskpart to allow windows to assign a drive name.
From the bios, I can see both drives and only the ssd. I have not pinpointed when the harddisk is unmounted. It is formatted as NTFS. I can hear it unmount either during boot or upon waking from sleep mode. The bios sees no bad sectors nor does windows.
However, when I had the intel compatibility software installed, my hard drive never mounted. I did a restart and inorder for windows to see my hard drive. I disabled the intel software for the 4th gen i7 processor. This problem is happening less often. I do
not think I have solved the problem. Intel or Windows... I think a bit of both.
If there is a software patch, please guide me to it. I am in school and use my laptop ALL the time. I believe it is a compatibility issue. I have attached this from searching intel's site for downloads and windows is up to date.
I am quite concerned because I can hear my harddrive unmount. It is labeled as healthy NTFS partition. I have checked for hidden volumes and done everything I know to do to check the integrity of the hardware as administrator. I have searched microsofts
libraries and forums and have done everything I can find as suggestions.
I have checked for malware, viruses, etc. My only clue this is going to happen is the hard disk spins up and I hear the fan, then I hear it unmount the drive. Of course, after unmounted there are other issues which I have ruled out as the cause of the problem.
Basically, I am experiencing a lack of swap space after my hard drive unmounts.
Any suggestions, are welcome! I would really like to know if this is a known windows issue. I should not have to disable intel's processor software. I paid for the features of the i7 and would like to utilise the processor.

    Hi,
According to your descriptioin, I don't think this is system problem, it should be Intel driver problem. It would be contact Intel to confirm this issue whether this is their driver problem.

    Hi,
The BitLocker encryption and decryption processes can be interrupted by turning the computer off, and it will resume where it left off the next time Windows starts. This is true even if the power is suddenly unavailable.
    Bitlocker-repair (repair-bde)  tool
can't repair a drive that failed during the encryption or decryption process.
In addition, could you please explain a bit for what drive you are trying to deal with? external one?
When you first restart your PC, have you seen any signs that indicate that the encryption is in process?
Regarding your scenario, please take a look to see if the following articles could help here:
Scenario 11: Recovering Data Protected by BitLocker Drive Encryption (Windows 7)
Besides, when running manage-bde command, did we followed the steps mentioned in the below article?
Scenario 14: Using a Data Recovery Agent to Recover BitLocker-Protected Drives (Windows 7)

  • I am using Windows 8.1 i have an External Hard Disk and one drive is now inaccessible due to sudden power failure few days ago. Now it shows "Data error (Cyclic redundancy check)". I want all my important files and Pics. How ?

    Hi,
    I am using Windows 8.1
I have an External Hard Disk i have partitioned it to 4 parts.
One drive is now inaccessible due to sudden power failure while listening Music from that drive few days ago.
Now it shows "Data error (Cyclic redundancy check)".
I tried all the procedures provided here like
    chkdsk /f, diskpart, rescan etc
but no result :( (i mean all processes failed. They could not detect the drive).
Please help me to get those data, pictures and project files.
    thank you

Then why aren't you posting this in the Windows 8 forums found @

  • Cannot delete file from disk after emailling that file like attachment

After i send some file from disk in Mail like attachment i cannot delete that file from disk unless i quit Mail. Like Mail is still using a file. Of course, that mail is in Sent mail, not in outbox.

This deeper than that. I created another account on the same iMac and it works in Harmony with my other devices and Documents in the cloud. I can only imagine the icloud account is somehow corrupted (I am on my macbook not iMac at the moment). There have been no updates to the Calendar, Contacts or Documents since early January on that account. I have spent 1hr on the phone with support and they were baffled as well. Only thing I can gove as insight to the problem is this, I was on the Mac Mini which was backed up on Time Machine. about 4 or 5 months ago I had to completley restore the Mac Mini becasue of the never ending circle on the load screen. The Backup failed to work it kept loading the issue and 4 or 5 times the circle of death kept coming up I would subsequently wipe the Mini and go further back in the back up until I go a copy that worked.  I then loaded the Time Mache back up into my NEW iMac and wnet from there. It took about a month for this problem I am detailing above to start happening. It maybe a corrupt file loaded from the backup into the new iMac causing this problem. Best answer I can think of on my own???

  • Delete file from hard disk etc.?

Can iTunes do the following, and how?
    1. When I ask a file to be deleted from the Library, is there some way of asking for the file to be deleted from the hard disk itself?
    2. If the location of the file has changed, can iTunes update its library and delete the unfound files from its list?

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

  • I was given some advice here to restore my macbook OS that was having a glitch I now realize was nothing, by sliding in the original OSX disk at start up and holding the C key down?

So now my problem is herindous, my mac is crashed and it says I need to click repair disk if repair fails back up and erase the disc?
I have limited access to anything and would like to know how to back it up if possible, I have bought a 500G seagate, but nothing seems to be working
I have the snow leopard disc in it and it is open with Disc Utility, the repair disc did not work so I need to back up and erase, BUT HOW?
Please any one with some competence as far as knowing what they are talking about so I can get off this DELL Windows laptop, It's miserable!
Please good reliable advice needed with step by step blows for recovery, I have the MAC OS X Installer  open showing both the Macintosh HD and the FreeAge Drive side by side,
Can I just load the Snow Leopard on the Freeagent and operate my computer like that to get by?
    HELP PLEASE?
Sound confusing, I have been at it over 18 hours now with all involved and pulling my hair out!
Sincerely grateful for some reliable advice from a mac expert!

Me again, I am not rushing here for the obvious reasons, I dont expect to hear from you tonight (so late) hopefully 2marrow.
Thinking closer about the way you worded it I dont think I actually booted of the disk, rather just able to access (Mac OS X Installer) that further allows me to access through clicking on (Utilities),
(Disc Utility). With it open to begin the (Erase) of the free agent drive,
I click on (erase) and the options open to be chosen of Format:
included in those options I don't have what you listed for me to choose, the available options are:
    Mac OS Extended (journaled)
    Mac OS Extended
    Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitave,journaled)
    Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitave)
    MS-DOS (FAT)
And under that is a space for Name: and it could be anything of my choise it by default automatically put in (FREEAGENT G)
fURTHER DOWN AVAILABLE OPTIONS TO CLICK ON ARE
Securiety Options: That compile 4 ranging from Don't Erase Data / to a 35-Pass Zero Out Data
And finally the slightly smaller space available for me to click on that says (ERASE....) and it starts the scrub I figure.
Now that would be the first part of two I would need to complete to hopefully get off this Dell from Windows Haties!
Step 2) It would be nice if I could just drag the Mac OS x install DVD to the FreeAgent and it would load it, and maybe it's possible?? I know everything about nothing! Famously.
But the next possible options back in (DISC Utility) when I am clicked on (The install DVD) are first aid,   erase,   and  Restore
Then other options open to click on depending on what is chosen?
I am sorry to be so handy cap needy, with my long history of (if there is anything worse that can happen it will happen to me) as it does and I have to accept the fact It can always be worse! I know yah it could, but then all mighty God would no longer have me the human hamster to bowel and toss around, and would get bored.
***************So I guess the first Mystery here is where's the (GUID) PARTITION option?*************************
Ihave found an option under (RAID) that makes more available striped, Mirriored, and Concentrated (RAID Types)
With (Format:) options the same as I listed above
I do understand if your too busy and unable to get back as well,

  • Web-Disk on OSX 10.9 Give me this error: "Finder got an error: Network file permission error."

Previously I was using OSX 10.8 and Web Disk was working great.
Since I upgraded to OSX 10.9 Web Disk Dont Attach to my compputer and give me this ERROR:
FInder got an error: Network file permission error.
When I got this ERROR first time I searched GOOGLE and found this link: http://cammodude.blogspot.no/
    And I did:
To force all connections to be SMB1:
    Open A terminal window
paste in the following line followed by the return key(should be all on one line):
    echo "[default]" >> ~/Library/Preferences/nsmb.conf; echo "smb_neg=smb1_only" >> ~/Library/Preferences/nsmb.conf
    What the command does:
Creates a file called nsmb.conf  in your  home directory at the path ~/Library/Preferences/nsmb.conf.
Adds directives to force SMB connections to use the SMB1 protocol.  This is slower but stable.
Then I could use Web Disk on OSX 10.9 after executing this command in Terminal.
But now I restarted my Macbook and now Im NOT able to connect to Web Disk and get the same ERROR.
FInder got an error: Network file permission error
After trying 100 times it attaches 1 time but then show this ERROR:
    Can't get <<class cdis>> "my.server.com/2078" of application "Finder".
If this happen then I can see the files in Finder and see the Contents and Size of files but if I open a PHP file in BBEdit then it shows BLANK.. But actually it is NOT blank.
Now Im stuck How can I solve this? All help is highly appericated..
    Thank you so much...

    Hi,
Make sure to chmod the app, something like this :
    chmod -Rf 777  secure_site_WebDisk.app
(in my case the CPanel provided the app for my OSx version.)

  • Boot image does not exist and cannot read disk label errors.

Hi - I'm having a problem with installing Solaris 9 4/04 on a Netra T1. The Netra already has Solaris 7. I need to get this set up as a jumpstart server but it can't find the boot image. I'm using a brand new bonafide installation disk - not a copy. The system won't let me install/upgrade to Solaris 9 either. I get an error stating that disk label can't be read. I've tried swapping out the CDROM but I still get the same errors. Does anyone know what or why this may be happening? (Oh - and another strange thing - like I said the CDs are the original but there doesn't appear to be a cdrom/cdrom0/s0 directory. The directory I see is cdrom/cdrom0/sol_9_404_sparc/Solaris_9/Tools)
ERROR: Install boot image /cdrom/sol_9_404_sparc/Solaris_9/Tools/Boot does not exist

specify a valid boot image elsewhere.
    and
Excuting last command: boot cdrom [- nowin]

    Can't open disk label package
Evaulating: boot cdrom [- nowin]@1/ide@e/cdrom@2:f File and args: [- nowin]

I appreciate any help at all - is there anyone out there who can tell me what I may be doing wrong?
    Thanks

Hi check that you are booting of the right cd. Make sure it is soalris 9 software 1/2 if that fails then it may well be that your cd is buggered. most likely it is buggered it it cant find the boot image.

Find out how to remove or leave offline for both Sophos, and Little Snitch.  You only need to examine for viruses when you get attachments from unknown sources, and need to check before you open them.  Little Snitch is only useful if you use any peer2peer software, which you should avoid anyway.

  • How can I move my DRM-protected movies from one disk to another on the same computer without running afoul of the big movie houses?

I need to off-load my digital copies to another disk I just bought, located on the same computer, so I can have more room for other things; my collection is getting too big, I guess.  I'm afraid if I just move them and re-integrate them back into the iTunes library, it will mess up the DRM status and lock me out entirely.  I'm hoping it won't treat this exercise as one of my allocated copies and increment the counter counting device transfers.  Any ideas as to how to safely do this (without hacking, etc.)?
    Thanks.

is this second library in a different account on the computer?
