Disk partioning on Linux AS4 to Install 11.5.10.2

Hi
I want to install 11.5.10.2 on Linux AS4. Id like to know the disk partioning details given while installing Linux AS4. ie like /usr, /swap etc.

During the installation the Linux installer offers you a auto-config of the partitioning.
Usually I choose this and then I add disks for my oracle environment that I all mount under /oracle.

I'm installing Oracle 10g 10.0.2.0.1 on a Red Hat Linux AS4 64bit, but I'm running into some problems. Error relates to Note:340369.1.
How can I tell if I have compat-libstdc++-33.3.2.3-47.3 or compat-libstdc++-33.3.2.3-47.3.i386 installed? If I do a 'rpm -ql compat-libstdc++-33', it shows up in /usr/lib and /usr/lib64. I need to ensure I have compat-libstdc++-33.3.2.3-47.3.i386 for the install.

Cannot get 10.1.0.3 on linux Itanium to install on RHEL4

I have been trying to get rdbms version 10.1.0.3 for Linux Itanium to install on a new HP rx6600 running RHEL4 and have not had much luck thus far...I have an open SR with metalink but still not much progress...
Initially I had to download the oracle jvm patch for the montecito processor and I installed a patched version of the jre and jdk. This got the installer to continue on a little further but still I cannot get the oui to launch.
Now that we have the patch version of the jre I am running the installer with the -jreLoc parameter and pointing it to the new jre but I am getting the following annoying error.

My tmp dir is writable and I have plently of space and I have tried a workaround to create a newtmp dir and export the variables to use newtmp but still the annoying error persists?
Also I see that when runing the installer with the debug option it is looking for the jar files in the jre location? No idea why this is happeneing...

Because I have a 10.1.0.3 database that I need to migrate to new hardware and I want to use oracle dataguard to faciilitate a zero down time migration to ASM and the rdbms versions need to be the same in order to have the ability to use data guard... I plan to upgrade after the database has been migrated.
And your probably thinking why not just upgrade the 10.1.0.3 database first and then migrate? Well I am trying to avoid upgrading the currently installed 10.1.0.3 database because we are reliant on tape backups and do not have a good disk backup/restore solution should something go wrong with the database upgrade...So I was hoping to get the db migrated over first and then do the upgrade of the database on the newer hardware and new storage because with my new hardware I have the ability to do online disk backups which will be more reliable and less risk involved in the event that the upgrade doesn't go so well...
Trust me life would be so easy If I could just install oracle 11G.

I have Hardware HP DL580 G3 server attached with SAN.
I just installed Linux AS4, installation went fine and successufly installed, upon rebooting of server it is giving following error.

First: did you install the bootloader in the MBR (it's a question during the installation), so the server is able to boot linux automatically?
"C:" is a typical MSDOS naming (and windows naming), which probably means the dos/windows bootloader is still in the MBR (master boot record)
If not, reinstall linux and install grub (preferably) in the MBR

1) Can the linux server allows 16GB SGA?
If it doesn't allow, what are the things i have to do to set the SGA size 16GB

On 64-bit, there is no limit on SGA size, just set sga_target=16g.

There is no special guide for RHEL/Suse/Oracle Linux, vendor-specific info is always included in the installation guide itself.

Disk Usage stuck at 100%, Factory installed windows 8 running like a turtle not being able to use my laptop. What should i do?

I have a HP Pavillion Sleekbook 15-b002ee with Third generation core i5 processor 1.7 GHz, 500 GB Hard disk and 4 GB of RAM installed. Windows 8 came pre installed on it.
I bought this laptop 11 months ago and it worked fine for 10 months and then from the last month its presenting unusual problems. My disk usage is stuck at 100% and the laptop freezes and never lets me work or do anything. Heres what i have already done
to solve the issue but have been unsuccessful:
1) I have reset my PC completely and reinstalled windows 8 using the factory setup. Didnt solve the issue, newly installed windows displays the disk usage 100% and the performance is same i.e the system freezes.
2) I have tried adjusting my paging file, no change made a difference to the performance of my laptop. The default system managed Paging file size is something around 3.89 Gb. Does my problem have anything to do with my paging file?
3) I have tried solving this issue by disabling the "Windows Search" and "Superfetch" services and still it didnt solve the problem.
4) I have also run checkdisk on my hard drive completely. It took me a complete day to do so but still no change.
5) Before resetting my laptop, an error called "Kernel_data_inpage(http.sys)" used to come on my upgraded windows 8.1. Whats the issue?
So what should i do? Is there any problem with my hardware? Is my hard drive having bad sectors and is that causing the problem? Or is there any other technical problem which i couldnt yet find out?
I have explained my problem in a lot detail and i would like a clear answer please, i have been at this issue for many days and this forum seems like the last place where i can find relevant answer because Google isnt helping.

Hi Donald,
No it doesn't erase anything by default, it does what we used to call an Archive and Install feature, which can give you a new OS, yet preserve your files and settings if you have enough room on your HD...

But it does it automatically unless you specifically erase the Disk, but will replace Tiger completely for the OS & several Apple Apps like Safari, Mail, etc, yet preserve your old settings for those!
If you think you may need Tiger to run any APPs that do not work in SL/10.6, then clone or backup first.
I would recomend 2 things before installing though...
Make sure you have enough RAM & HD space.
Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
General requirements
   * Mac computer with an Intel processor
    * 1GB of memory (I say 2GB at least)
    * 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
If it's a core Duo & not a Core2Duo, then it'll only run in 32 bit mode.

2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)

Your HD may be crashed, so you probably should use the oringinal install discs to run Apple Hardware Test in extended mode. If error codes appear this confirms a hardware failure. In addition you cannnot repair the HD using Disk Utility from the startup disk, you have to use the origninal Install discs that shipped with the computer or the most up-to-date version of OS X on a disc that you have.

Firstly, what is the source of the 10.6.4 disc? Is it the original installation disc for your MacBook, or one 'borrowed' from another computer?
It isn't the retail version, because that's 10.6.3.
Assuming it's the correct disc (i.e. the one that shipped with your Mac), you need to boot from it again.
OK the language page.
From the installer screen, ignore the continue button, go to the menu bar and choose Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
In DU, select your internal drive in the sidebar (the top item with the makers name and serial no.).
Run Repair Disk. If that comes up as disk OK, click the partition tab. Select the partiton from the drop-down above the graphic; 1 partiton is all you need.
Go to the options button and ensure that the partition scheme is GUID and the file system to Mac OS Extended (Journalled). Name the partiton (usually Macintosh HD), click Apply.
When the Macintosh HD volume appears below the drive name, quit DU and see if you can then install.
If the screen after the language screen doesn't show the menu bar, it may be necessary to use another Mac to do the job with the MB in Firewire Target Disc Mode. If it won't boot in TDM, or the MB doesn't have FireWire then it's getting very difficult.

Logic Studio Install Disks - Which Hard Drive Do I Install Them In?

Hello, im getting logic pro in a few weeks and maybe an external hard drive. and was wondering out of all the applications etc and disks that come with it, which drive i should install each one on. i know that the logic sequencer should go on my internal mac drive. but what about the rest? im guessing that the samples go on my external. but what about main stage, studio effects, wave-burner? here are the full list of items if you care to help. thanks.

Don't sweat it.
It will become fairly clear when you first run the install disks - there are options during the install that will give you the choice of location.
Typically, in many cases you have no choice. The applications themselves have to go on the system disk. You can put samples, loops etc. on another drive, but without knowing what you plan on doing with Logic, or if you plan to include 3rd. party sample libraries, loops and hardware, it's hard to advise. You can always change your mind later.
If you're planning on a lot of audio recording, you'll want to save your project files to your external disk, as this helps with performance. In a perfect world, samples would go on one disk, Logic projects on another, but this might be overkill for your needs. Also, to some extent, your choice of interface will have a bearing - some are happy to share a firewire bus, some aren't. As you have a MBP you have the additional slot for expansion, but it's still something to think about.
As far as viruses go, you're pretty safe particularly as you don't surf around downloading iffy files. There are a couple of Mac malware items out there, and they're likely to increase as Mac's market share increases, but I haven't run any protection software in years with no ill effects, but I'm behind a firewall and like you, I don't download anything on to my machines without knowing the source.

How to see new disk in oracle linux 5

i am using oracle VM and created 2 guest OS (both Olx5) i also created a shared disk and assigned to both linux servers.
question: how can i see the disk in each server. using fdisk -l it just shown the one there before.
in HPUX we have ioscan to detect new devices. is there away to check for new disk in oracle linux.

fdisk -l shows only existing partitions. So if your new disk has not partition created it will be not shown in the output.
AFAIK there is not such command which will list all devices but there are several ways how to find the devices. All informations you can find in /proc directory (fdisk -l reads /proc/partitions when device is not passed as argument).
You can find devices (local disks) for example using following commands (hope it helps):
cat /var/log/dmesg |egrep 'sd[a-z]: s|hd[a-z]: h'
cat /proc/diskstats |egrep -v 'ram|fd'|awk {'print $3'}

O8051EE on Linux error after install

I've recently downloaded the new 8051EE edition Oracle has made
available for Linux and tried to install on a couple different
boxes and have been having problems. I'm an experienced Oracle
DBA and have installed Oracle8 on several other machines with no
problems (including 805SE on Linux).
Following the same procedures that have always worked before
(including with 805SE on Linux) if I install 8051EE on a
freshly-installed RedHat 5.2 box (with all RedHat patches) when I
try to run svrmgrl to create my database, I get the error:
Oracle Server Manager Release 2.0.5.0.0 - Production
Message 4505 not found; No Message file for product=SVRMGR,
facility=MGR
Error while trying to recieve text for error ORA-12545
and svrmgrl refuses to acknowlege any commands I send it, giving
me similar errors whatever I type and leaving the whole database
unusable.
I've reinstalled the thing several times with the same result
each time. Installing 805SE on the same box works fine.
Installing on RedHat 6.0 with glibc 2.1 just cores out when I run
svrmgrl, but I kind of expected that and I just need to get this
running on the 5.2/glibc 2.0 box.

You didn't mention anything about installing the Oracle patch.
Have you downloaded and installed the 8.0.5.1 patch? There is
also a patch for glibc 2.1 in case you want to try it on RH6.0.
