Disk Partition, Dynamic Buffer Problems

My 3000 K100 has been sitting unused for over a year while I went back to my (very) old 486 that actually works. The dynamic buffer warning is constant, with frequent SEVERE warnings. When this happens, I do an instant backup, which buys me a little time, but I expect the thing to lock up any time now. I initially did a base backup, which I now know should not have done. I've read all the posts on the subject and thought I'd try shrinking my D drive (which worked) and expanding C (which was not allowed). Because the PC came with software installed, I have no system disks, and my warranty has expired, so I have no faith in Lenovo correcting their problem. I tried making a backup of C, but many files were copied without their associated properties, and I fear may not work correctly if I rely on them as restore files. Can anyone steer me to the 3 fix disks, or any other low cost (or better yet, free) solution? I'd be most grateful for your help. If not, maybe I'll just reformat the drive and install XP instead (sigh).

What a mess. I got the two disk re-partitioning disk that lenovo came out with. thanks to Mark.  I had the Vista disk that came with my PC.
I have run the disk three times trying to get a clean install of the complete Hard Drive reformation. Most things are working OK now but what a task it has been.  Start up is slower than ever before. I get a Windows Experience index of 1 for Areo and 3D on start up but it goes up to 3.1 after retesting.
What does this have to do with Dynamic Buffer?
The repartitioning to one big C drive was suppose to fix that but two days after I started One Key recovery back up I started getting the warnings again.  I have not deleted One Key but I will never start the base back up. I have the disks for recovering the System and I have files backed up on an external HD.

  • Custom disk partition with diskpart problem

I am trying to customize the disk layout in my Windows 8.1 TS. What I did was add a command line TS with diskpart and disable the default Format and Partition Disk task. I know the diskpart (with script) command worked as expect as I tested it in my testing
box first. When I boot up the lite touch media and select the windows 8.1 TS, MDT failed at the inject driver stage (with using the customized diskpart script). But it is working fine if I use the default format and partition disk task. Can someone advice how
    I can troubleshoot this problem?

  • Can Lion disk utility dynamically partition a drive?

Can Lion disk utility dynamically partition a drive? I see many posts that Leopard Disk utility can but nothing about Lion.

Yes. I'll post a link to instructions. Be sure to create a full reliable backup before you begin (don't just do the backup, test the backup to be sure it's good), and the only application that should be running until the process is complete is Disk Utility.
    http://osxdaily.com/2009/11/20/resize-partitions-in-mac-os-x-with-disk-utility/
Some people have problems resizing partitions because of the hidden Recovery HD partition. It sometimes gets in the way because Disk Utility can move it "up" but cannot move it "down".

  • Oracle Enterprise Linux 6.1 Installation Fails during Disk Partitioning

    Hi,
I've tried to install Oracle Enterprise Linux 6.1 by creating a Virtual Machine using Oracle VM Virtual Box in my laptop with Window XP host OS (NTFS filesystem), by following the below steps.
    1) Installed Oracle VM Virtual Box
    2) Created a new Virtual machine using a virtual box by specifying the two .iso images i.e OracleLinux-R6-U1-Server-i386-dvd.iso and boot.iso as the boot device and by specifying the following Disk files (.vdi) as follows.
    2.1) Oracle_Enterprise_Linux_6_1_Root_Disk_1.vdi - For the / (i.e Root) partition - Dynamically expanded storage - 10 GB - ext4
    2.2) Oracle_Enterprise_Linux_6_1_Swap_Disk_1.vdi - For the swap partition - Dynamically expanded storage - 10 GB - swap
    2.3) Oracle_Enterprise_Linux_6_1_User_Disk_1.vdi - For the /usr partition - Dynamically expanded storage - 20 GB - ext4
    2.4) Oracle_Enterprise_Linux_6_1_Home_Disk_1.vdi - For the /home partition - Dynamically expanded storage - 10 GB - ext4
But while installing OEL 6.1 after specifying the partitions, the installer get hung and throws an error as bug while creating the ext4 filesystem on /dev/sda1.
I tried to specify the default 8 GB for all the above four partitions, the installer successfully continues without any issues. But if i specify any partition more than 8 GB, it fails.
Is there anyway I can solve this problem by creating the above specified partitions with the above size ? Why does it fail if i specify any size more than 8 GB ?
    Thanks
    Harish

8 GB is a common limit for systems were the boot loader or system BIOS imposes an addressable space limit for the boot partition. In such situations, the system boot partition has to fit within the first 8 GB physical boundary of the harddrive.
Your setup seems a bit unusual. Why do you create separate disks for each Linux partition?
Normally the Linux installer creates necessary partitions on the disk, including a /boot partition that is usually only 100 MB in size.
What are you doing with boot.iso? You should be able to start the system from the main installation DVD or .iso image. You might also want to install x86_64 Linux, unless your hardware is really very old and does not support the 64-bit extension. You can run 32-bit software on a n 64-bit OS, but not the other way around and you will limit your software to 32-bit only.

  • Dynamic Buffer warning

    Model 3000 K100 #57061330
    Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, 3072MB DDR2, 500GB HD, Vista Home Premium
Had computer for about 3 weeks now, been getting the "Warning" " The free dynamic buffer in the current system is insufficient; it is recommended to release the dynamic buffer by updating the Base Backup" pretty much daily. I update the backup and its OK for a day or so.
Not sure what the buffer is exactly,
Ram shows using 1300 of 3058
    C: 5gig free of 29gig partition
    D: 380 gig free of 418.
Using 2GB ultra II sd card for ReadyBoost
I downloaded and checked the Onekey Recovery user guide but that was pointless, 15 mb  of legal jargon, no useful info.
Any suggestions of what to do to avoid this warning??? Once the warning message appears, it pretty much stays on the screen until I update the backup. Its just plain annoying. Any help would be appreciated.

Here's what I've experienced.  If anyone has been advised of a suitable workaround, I'd love to hear it.   This has been very frustrating and is absolutely an engineering snafu from Lenovo.
I had identical issues to OP.  Quickly ran out of space on C: and had to go back and uninstall everything and re-install on D:.  Then had to make new directories on D: for My Documents, My Videos, etc.
Even with that done, there are so many files that need to go on C: that 30G just isn't enough. (pagesys is 2.5G for instance)
Tech support has told me the following: (paraphrased)
    1) If I can't remove anything else from c: the only way to fix the problem would be to use the restore to factory settings option (wiping out everything on C: (but not on D and starting that partition fresh.)    This isn't an option atm because I have some small programs and utilities (such as VPN) installed that would be a pain to reconfigure.
    2) Lenovo's One Key Recover requires the partitions to remain as when shipped to work correctly.  Any resizing of the partitions (especially C will render One Key Recover (and the system restore) useless.
    3) They do not support or recommend any partition software and doing so voids your warantee.
So...I'm between a rock and a hard place.
My last phone call to Lenovo tech support was 30 minutes ago.  I was hoping that if enough people made them aware of how much trouble this is, they might come up with a solution.  (nope)
I'm going to do a little more research to see if any of these forums users have a better solution.
If not I'm am going to
    void my warantee
    make my c: drive bigger
    uninstall Lenovo One Key Recovery
install another program to ensure my files are backed-up properly and
    never buy Lenovo again.

  • Can't erase anything on an external hard disk partition of bootable backup ____error message -50 "Error in user parameter"

    I am using MACOSX 10.6
The data on the disk partition  on my Iomega 2Tb external hard disk drive (labeled "Bootable Backup") was written by Carbon Copy Cloner (CCC ver. 3.37)
I have had problems with overwriting this using CCC, and I have also had troubles changeing the data on my "Versioned Backup"  partition, using either CrashPlan or CCC
A third partition that was virgin ("Half-Tb Volume") on the same external disk drive, however, DID accept the latest CCC bootable backup of my Macintosh HD...which is the reason I want to recover rthe space on the first bootable backup partition.
I have not found any links to this error using Google search, apart from the definition.
    Anyone

Do a backup using Time Machine or a clone. Then boot into the Recovery Volume (command - R) on a restart. Run Disk Utility Repair disk. If it can't repair the disk, then select the erase tab and reformat using Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Also click the Option button and select GUID. When complete, reboot normally and restore your data.

  • Hard disk partition issue

    Dear
I purchased Lenovo G580 one month before. The hard disk size is 750GB.The “C” itself 650GB. I tried to do the partition of250GB from Local disk C. After partition it shows unallocated space. But after that I could not make format for that unallocated Partition. During partitioning a pop up window shows that “The operation you selected will convert the selected basic disc to dynamic disc. If you convert the disk to dynamic, you will not be able to start installed operating systems from any volume on the disk (except the current boot volume). Are you sure you want to continue?”.
If I press “yes” the popup window show that “Dynamic disks are not supported by this operating system or server configuration. Dynamic disks are not supported on clusters”.Please check and give me a solution. I am using Windows 7 Home premium . here i attached the photos.

  • Hard disk partition not showing up during window 7 install

    Hi there,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel.
I understand that your hard drive is not showing up, presumably as a bootable partition. I am happy to help, but I need a bit more clarification of your problem. You mention a 0x00000116 error as well, which is normally part of a Blue Screen of Death. Does this happen regularly as well, or is that the real complaint, that you are getting the 0x code and a BLue Screen on startup?
That particular code is generally associated with a video driver problem.
Is the hard drive you are trying to install to, a new replacement hard drive or the original hard drive?
If you try to boot up the system, what error do you see?
Are there any repeating flashing LED patterns, or beeping patterns?
Assuming this is your original installed hard drive, did you try the recovery manager for the drive?

  • How do I expand the start-up disk partition?

A few weeks ago, I learned about partitioning.  I thought I would give it a try on my Mac Pro.  I have two 1TB Hard Drives on it.  I partitioned all the hard drives into 4 seperate partitions.  I also partitioned the start-up disk.  Except, I goofed up.  My start-up disk partition seems to be stuck at 102.08.
The problem comes because all my programs, applications, etc. are on the bootup disk partition.  I get anywhere near 10GB’s, and the computer doesn’t run quite properly.  I current sit around 30GB free space, but constantly have to clean up this partition.
In Disk Utility, I click on the hard drive, then click the "Partition" option.  In the partition information, where I can normally resize the partition, it won’t allow me.  I can resize most other partitions, except the start-up disk partition.
If there is any suggestions or help, it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!

  • How Do I Get Rid Of Disk Partitions/Images?

    Hey folks,
When I bought my iMac flat panel from a friend, he partitioned the hard drive into 3 'disks' or disk images. The problem I'm having, is that I would like to get rid of one of them and use that storage for the main disk; the disk with the startup info. on it.
How in the heck do I do this? I've located about 134, 765 articles on how to CREATE partitions, but none on how how to get rid of them, or combine them into others.
    Help?
iMac flat panel   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
If you use only Apple's software then the only way is to Erase the drive with Disk Utility and set one partition only.
Clearly this will erase all data on the drive.
There are some 3rd party utilities that allow partitions to be removed/created without erasing the drive.
Given the nature of what you are doing here; I'd recommend fully backing up all your data before doing anything of this nature.

  • Keeps corrupting disk partition, even new disk

After 6.5 reliable years, my Macbook Pro (mid-2007 model 3,1) failed to boot, just freezing at the white screen (in Mtn. Lion) even when the shift is held down for "safe boot". Although Disk Utility and Apple Hardware Test found nothing wrong with the hard drive, I replaced it along with the battery with brand new ones. Since then, no matter what OS X version I load (10.6.8, 10.8, Mavericks), the same problem occurs without warning after 2 or 3 weeks of normal use.
Disk Warrior finds one or two damaged, seemingly non-crucial files each time, but their removal does not correct things. I partitioned the disk last time, and loaded Snow Leopard onto both so I would have a spare. Also fixed permissions. But sure enough, after a couple of weeks the partition most used is not openable while the other one still operates beautifully, no twirling beach balls or anything. But I know it's living on borrowed time.
Can a logic board crap out after years pass and permanently corrupt a disk partition while leaving the rest intact? Could a failing PRAM battery do something like this?

Could be that your new disk is also borked, but I would try getting a new SATA cable in the meantime.
    Good luck!

  • How to add disk partition wizard in MDT 2013?

Is it possible to add a step in a task sequence or otherwise, so the installation procedure will popup a disk partition wizard, just like when installing Windows 7 from a DVD?

I agree that funky partition schemes for Disk 0 is not recommended. Nevertheless it is not rare for our IT dep. to re-install PC's with dual boot configurations and/or data partitions on Disk 0. So instead of  backing up everything prior to re-installing
Windows, it would come in handy to be able to dynamically choose which partition to install Windows on.
I really miss a more elaborate guide on how to implement that wizard page, you gave me a link to, but it really does not seem to be what I need after all.
Do you have any comments on this idea: I have added DaRT to my Windows PE. Using the File Explorer I get access to the partitions and their names, enabling me to rename whatever partition (i.e. "WinOS"). What if I made separate Task Sequence(s)
and added a check for which partition with a given name ("WinOS") to install Windows on? Then I could use File Explorer, rename the partition I want to install Windows on ("WinOS"), and thus keeping everything intact except that partition?

  • Terminal Command to Re-Mount an Unmounted Local Disk Partition?

    Hello,
Does anyone know a terminal command (or applescript command) to re-mount an unmounted local disk partition? I know it can be done using the DiskUtility, but I would like to do it from the Terminal without launching another program.

    Hi Tom,
AppleScript will execute anything that you can exectute from the command line that isn't interactive but it won't execute it in the same way. By that I mean that the environment will be more vanilla. In this case the problem is that the path is rather basic. All you have to do is to use an absolute path to the script and it should work. Apple has a pretty good reference for the mechanism, Technical Note TN2065: do shell script in AppleScript.
Is wakeonlan basically the same thing as waking upon receipt of a "magic packet"? I think you can easily make Mac OS X do that by itself. Just open System Preferences and the "Options" tab of the "Energy Saver" pane. Check the checkbox beside "Wake for Ethernet network administrator access".

  • Disk partitions with same drive letters in Win 2k3

    Hi
We are hosted a 2003 standard server in Vmware.Recently we did an extend in the hard disk partition. We are using the storage as San.After extending the partition it got extended successfully. But when we open disk management it was showing as two partitions
with the same letter. In my computer only showing one drive. Please suggest how this happened and what it actually meant. We are using dynamic disk.
Partition Size in My computer : 1.4 TB as one single drive
Disk Management : 1.2 TB  & 200 GB ( Same drive letters with two drives)
We have recently extended the disk to 1.2 TB to 1.4 TB.
    Thanks
    Roo

Actually, this is normal for dynamic disks.
Dynamic disks, unlike basic, disks may have many (dynamic) partitions.
From the picture you posted it shows that:
    Volume D: (1228.79GB) = Partition1 (1024.00GB) + Partition2(204.79GB).
For some reason, system was unable to extend Partition1, so it added Partition2 to the volume. This is perfectly normal.
You may read more about basic and dynamic disks at Technet library.
