Disk Partitioning Error Windows 8.1 Installation
What were the default disk partitions for Lenovo Thinkpad 11e (yoga)?? I'm trying to install clean OS for win8.1 but I keep getting an error " couldnt create or locate and existing partition:
Try using a live USB of Ubuntu 14.10, verify if the partition style is GPT instead of MBR.
Before installing Windows 8.1, delete all partitions on your HDD or SSD. And then create a new partition to install Windows 8.1 on. It will automatically also create the required smaller partitions.

Windows 8 Disk Partition Error
Every time I press install to create a partition for windows 8 in Boot Camp I get an error message that says "your disk could not be partitioned, an error occurred while partitioning the disk". Why is this error occurring and how can I stop it?
Is that the complete error message? Are you trying to partition the correct drive? It may be that you do not have enough contiguous free space on the drive for the partition.

Disk Partition for Windows failing
Hi Everyone,
May you pls help me on the following (for iMAC OS X Version 10.5.8):
Wanted to partition main disk into two one for MAC OS the other for Windows 7 Pro, however, I'm getting error message ' Filesystem verify or repair failed'.
Tried to fix it via Applications / Utilities / Utility Disk / First Aid / Verify Disk Permissions + Repair Disk Permissions + Verify Disk - didn't help.
I'm getting two errors on the detailed report:
1. The volume HOME need to be repaired 1%) ->>>> that's for checking volume information and
2. incorrect number of file hard links ->>> that's for checking multi-linked files
What do I need to do next to have this fixed?Thanks rkaufmann87. Just one more question: can I loose data? The data file is v.big, it will take me the whole day to make a backup. I'm far far from being an expert (as I see you are!), so, will you give me few hints how it will work: so, I'm inserting a CD, Mac OS X will be installing on top of the existing? will any list pop, so I may choose 'repair disk' ? What is the abbreviations for DU by the way? Sorry for silly questions (they kinda don't look so silly to me though )

Recovery Disk Creation Error (Windows Vista / Satillite A200)

I have a Satellite A200 running Vista. This is inherited so I will do the best to describe the issue:
Mainly because it's inherited and running terrible I wanted to wipe the drive back to factory settings:
When creating the disks, it get about 1/2 way through the first one, then gives an error similar to:
Unable to Read (drive)\ZZImages\ZZImages\preinst.swm.
I unfortunately did not write down the specific error message, and I will make a new frisbee if required to find out (unless it has a log?)
It happened once while at the previous owners posestion, so before running it myself I can a chkdsk on the C Drive.
There was a 2nd partition, 5GB that's empty, as well as a HIDDEN partition (unsure of size) that had quite a few files on it.
I had inspected the systems within Linux which reads everything fine, then set the chkdsk flag (Dirty Bit) to ensure a full scan of the C drive.
Any suggestions as to what I can do would be great.Scanning the C: drive won't have any affect on this. The images are storred in the larger hidden partition that you should NOT scan. Since it happened to the original owner and to yourself it's fiarly obvious that the problem lies in the recovery partition. Your best bet at this time would be to order a replacement set of recovery disks from Toshiba. See the second post in this Recovery Forum for details.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time. -
How to change permissions of HFS disk partition in Windows 7??
I have 2 partitions in HFS. One of them has a lot of files that i need to transfer to the other partition, while in Boot Camp Windows 7. It tells me that i need permission, but no where i'm can get this permission. I've tried properties of disk, but seems like there is no "security" tab, meaning, no permissions settings.. What do i do?
You need to install MacDrive or do the transfer from Mac OS X. Apple's Boot Camp drivers don't provide write access.

[Solved] Can't see GPT disk partitions in Windows 7 (64-bit)
I just added 2 new disks and had them set up equally with GPT and equal partitions, to use the partitions as RAID1 in Arch, and the rest of the storage for Windows. It works as expected in Linux (I guess), but Windows shows them as uninitialized.
Can this be due to the fact that I created the GPT and partitions using fdisk? Caus' gdisk can't see any partitions either when I start it. If so, is there any way to convert it or do I need to redo everything?

good evening bro, iam tried as u mentioned n created new volume when i click finish after finish new simple volume it showing "the operation you selected will convert the selected basic disk to dynamic disk. if u convert the disk to dynamic , u wil not b able to start installed operating system from any volume on the disk(except the current boot volume ). are you sure want to continue."

so bro what should i do if i tried yes it showing "dynamic disk are not supported by this operating system or server config. dynamic disk are not supported on clusters. pls help meHow many partitions are you trying to make? What are you trying to do? There is a limit to how many simple partitions you can have (4 I think).

"Windows 8.1 installation has failed"
Downloaded the Enterprise iso of 8.1 from the Volume Licensing site. Currently running Windows 8 64 bit Enterprise. Downloaded 8.1 64 bit
enterprise. Mounted iso, ran setup, after licensing agreement and choosing data migration options received the error "Windows 8.1 installation has failed" . Googled around, and didn't see this exact problem. There is no error code,
nothing in the logs, nothing at all. Just the message "Windows 8.1 installation has failed". Tried several downloads of the iso, on multiple Windows 8 boxes.
Could a group policy setting, or something else related to these machines being on a domain be causing our issues? If not, the lack of error codes is making the issue next to impossible to debug.
Anyone out there able to help?

Which log did you checked, could you find the setup.etl file in %WINDIR%\Panther?
It should have $windows.~bt\Sources\Panther log file. please check it.

If problem persists, I would like to suggest you to make a clean install on other drive for test, to make sure this problem was not caused by hardware problem.
Note: before Windows installation, please backup all files on the drive which Windows 8.1 would be installed. Also make sure the hardware driver such as BIOS, Motherboard was upgrade to be latest.

Hey Im getting the following error when trying to install windows from a USB.
"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, windows can only be installed to GPT disks."
I installed the windows 8 (64bit) iso using boot camp to a usb. I was able to do this after changing the info.plist to allow me to place the iso on the usb. After I make the partition and start the install, I get the above error. I formatted the partition in the installation but I keep getting this error. I've repreated the entire process but i keep getting this errror and the disk utility says my partition is a Windows NT File System (NTFS) so im not sure what's going on. If you can help me that would be greatly appreciatedI am having the same problem. Windows is trying to install. It identifies the various partitions but says that I cannot install Windows on the Boot Camp partition or any other. I select Drive options (advanced) and Format the Boot Camp drive, but it makes no difference.
This is the Windows error:
Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks.
Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer BIOS menu.
I am not sure what Csound1 is suggesting with that post above. There are some involved suggestions over here <https://discussions.apple.com/message/23548999#23548999> about using Disk Utility to delete the Boot Camp partition and create new ones - is that the idea? -

after creating aotounattend.xml file, I went to step2: building reference installation. however, recieving the below error message:
"windows could not set a partition active on disk 0. The target disk, partition, or volume does not support the specified operation. The error occurred while applying the unattend asnwer file's <DiskConfiguration> setting. Error code: 0X80300024"
it happened in the beginning of installation.
what's more, before that error, system still asked me to choose which languange in the installation and I also need to click install button to begin installation.
I believe that with answer file, windows 7 should start installation automatically. Am I right?

It doesn't work. System configurations are,
-> system with out build-in harddisk
-> there were 3 disks from SAN
-> you can see that disks 0, 1 and 2 are configured in diskconfiguration section.
After constructing new COEM with this answer file, when i boot the system via DVD disk, in some point in time, i get the following exception:
the
target disk, partition or voume doesnot support the specified operations.
The
error occured while applying the unattended answer file's <DiskConfiguration> setting. Error code 0x80300024
any help would be appreciated.

Sorry, I'm new to the community, so apologies if I'm repeating myself.
OK, so I tried to install Windows Vista onto my iMac with the disk partition. Everything was going fine and it wasn't until last minute, when it was installed that an error came up saying that this can only be done with Windows 7. After this error, I couldn't access any errors of my iMac and when I shut down and restarted my computer, it automatically logged into Windows.
So after a panic, I rang Apple Care and the lady helped me log into my apple area, delete Windows from my iMac, and all was restored.
However, now when I shut down my computer and boot it back up, I think my iMac is trying to log into Windows areas that no longer exist. It loads up a black screen and doesn't move from there. To log into my Apple area, I have to do the whole process of holding Alt immediately after I switch the power on and access the Mac drive and log in that way.
It's beginning to become a real pain and I'm paranoid this process is going to damage my computer. Any advice on how to restore logging-in back to it's former glory when I first purchased it?

Windows 8.1 install fails because of a "disk is GPT partition" error on 27" late 2013 iMac
I've got a brand-new late 2013 27" iMac with a 3TB drive, running Mavericks 10.9.1.
I'm using Bootcamp Assistant to set up Windows 8.1. BootCamp Assistant creates my BootCamp partition, and Windows begins to install.
When it asks me where I want to install Windows, I choose Partition 4, the Bootcamp partition. It shows the error message that Windows cannot be installed because the selected disk is of the GPT partititon style.

I've spent 4 hours trying to set up BootCamp with no luck. Any help would be immensely appreciated.Thanks for the idea of booting in EFI mode. After looking around, though, it seems that I read as many "it didn't work/screwed up my drive" complaints as successes. Since I really know so little about it, I'm not that comfortable just trying to muddle my way through it. I'll keep looking into it though.
Should I gather at this point that the real problem is that BootCamp doesn't work correctly on Fusion Drives, or it's possibly a Mavericks or Windows 8 problem, and people here are just coming up with workarounds until Apple fixes it? Or is everything fine as far as Apple is concerned? I know I had no trouble installing BootCamp on my previous computer, a mid-2010 iMac running Mountain Lion and Windows 7.
Unfortunately, the Windows 7 I have is an upgrade from XP, and the BootCamp/Mavericks documentation said I couldn't use an upgrade, so I went out and bought Windows 8. Hate spending money on Windows, but especially when I can't use it!
Any other suggestions to get BootCamp up and running would still be appreciated! -

Follow these steps if the hard disk volume size is less than 2.19 TB:
Temporarily disable the EFI Boot Sources setting in the BIOS:
Restart the computer, and then press F10 to enter the BIOS.
Navigate to Storage > Boot Order , and then disable the EFI Boot Sources .
Select File > Save Changes > Exit .
Install the Windows operating system.

Windows is trying to install. It identifies the various partitions but says that I cannot install Windows on the Boot Camp partition or any other. I select Drive options (advanced) and Format the Boot Camp drive, but it makes no difference.
This is the Windows error:

Scratch Disk Full error for PS7 installation in Windows 7
Can anyone from Adobe tech support tell me how to install my own copy of PS7 on my new Windows 7 computer without having the Scratch Disk Full error show up? I am comfortable around my computer but am certainly not a tech wizard and it would be helpful if there was a set of specific steps I could take. I've read forums about partitioning but I don't want to make a wrong step and screw everything else up. Also, is this a problem with the more recent Photoshop CS versions?
Well, I've been able to install my PS-7 on my virtual drive in XP mode somehow (I got the 'disk full' pop-up, but then it seemed to install it anyway- I don't remember if it was the curse I leveled at it or what- and it still seems to run. I can actually access images from the Windows 7 side C: drive after opening Photoshop and going to 'open/ C:/ My Photos (or whatever)', but images I open in Windows 7 have to be saved on my hard drive before I can access them in Photoshop in XP mode. I'm still not sure where the new images will be stored and if they will be able to be accessed from both XP and Windows 7 mode (my gut says "fat chance"), and I can't have my Windows 7 images open in Photoshop natively.
I have therefore decided to add to the (probably swelling) coffers of Adobe by buying a shiny, brand new, squeaky-clean, and (hopefully) fully functional copy of Photoshop Elements 10 to install on my Windows 7 side, so now I can avoid having some lame 'viewer' program open my images. Ain't technology grand? -
Somehow Windows 10 preview installer doesn't recognize bootcamp partition/disk which is in GPT.
This problem became tricky now.
I already searched this support communities and found many similar questions.
But most of them were that the disk is in GPT but Windows expected MBR.
There is another case where Windows installer expects GPT but the disk is in MBR.
My case is different.
The Disk Utility says the disk is in GPT. (GUID Partition Table.)
And I used Bootcamp Assistant to partition the disk.
However, the Windows 10 Technical Preview installer thinks that it's in MBR. (yes. It's for 64bit.)
So, it looks to me that Windows installer somehow obtain the disk partition information wrongly.
Are there any people who were successful in installing Windows 10 Technical Preview?

Is there anyYes. It looks to be so. I've also read somewhere at MSDN site : GPT can contain MBR.
However, still it looks to me that its either/both Apple and MS implementation issue.Disk Utility says it's in GPT, but Windows installer doesn't think so.
I also tried DISKPART on windows to see if what partition type it thought, but it didn't give me such information.
What is even more interesting was VirtualBox. I decided to install on VirtualBox, and if "Enable EFI" option is on, the x64 version of Win 10 TP version couldn't be installed. I had to turn it off. So, according to MS, Win 10 for x64 is GPT-only. (I read so.. maybe I'm wrong.) but the "Enable EFI" mode should be turned off. Anyway, I decided to install on VM although it's slow for now.
