Disk permissions changed after switching off FileVault

Hi,
I found my disk permissions changed after switching off FileVault, nearly everything belongs to "system" now.
Can anyone PLEASE tell me what permissions are standard for
-Desktop
-Applications
-System
-Libary
ore doesn't it matter anyway ????

Assuming you're just talking about the Owner being System then:
The owner of Desktop should be your user name.
Applications and System should be System. Since these are not in your Home folder these permissions would have been corrected when you ran Repair Disk Permissions.
The Library folder depends on which Library folder you are talking about. If it's the Library folder that's in the same folder as System and Applications, then the Owner should be System, as well. Again, if that is not in your Home folder, then the permissions repair would have corrected it.
If, however, it's the Library that's in your Home folder, then it should have your username as the Owner.
Filevault only affects things that are in your Home folder so turning it on/off doesn't affect permissions anywhere else.

I have connected 2 macbook pros using firewire in target disk mode and the permissions on the destination macbook pro have changed. Now when I try to start the macbook pro, it stays on the grey screen and the apple sign changes to a prohibitory sign, therefore I cant log in.

I am unable to perform a safe boot, it simply wont happen.
I tried to start from mac osx install disk and that works so I am able to go disk utility, I can run 'verify disk' and 'repair disk' and it shows that everything is ok, however, I cant 'verify disk permissions' or 'repair disk permissions' as both are greyed out because 'the selected disk is not mounted'. I try mounting but that wont work either, I am told to 'disk can not be mounted, run first aid first and then retry'.
Furthermore, I try to perform 'archive and install' so I follow these instructions:

But on number 7, intead of being able to choose volume to install to, there is nothing I can choose! There is no list. And of course I cant continue.

Switching off FileVault

Hi all,
I'm trying to switch off FileVault but it says I need 4000 (yes, four thousand) GB of disk space. I have an 80GB drive, with 50GB used. What can I do?
The reason I want to switch off FileVault is because if I add all my docs, movies, files, apps, etc., it only adds up to 30GB. So I think it's FileVault that is gobbling up the additional 20GB. Any thoughts?

I had the same issue - turns out I had an error on my hard drive creating the faulty space-required indication. Boot off your installation CD or DVD, run Disk Utility from there and repair your drive, then try it.
FYI for those who don't use it, File Vault is a method to encrypt the contents of your Home directory - that diretory and all its contents is stored as an encrypted file on the drive and no one but the user logged in with his/her own password can access it. Turning it on or off can be a time consuming exercise in frustration, however.

How often does the rebooting happen? Does it happen more frequently when your are running some specific application or function? Also what SW version is your phone currently running? You can check this by dialing *#0000#.

Sound issue after switch off HDMI divice

I have installed video card and plug it to TV through HDMI divice, after switching off my TV i have no sound. message that no out put divice is installed.

For the issue, please check your Sound setting.
Firstly, let us unplug the HDMI Device.
Meanwhile, please open Control Panel>Sound:
Please check your default sound device to see if it remains use HDMI.
In addition, let us use the Audio troubleshooter, it can diagnose and fix common sound playback and hardware problems.

Why do disk permissions change and should I worry?

I noticed that my JavaAppletPlugin disk permission says that it should be something that it is not. I can temporarily fix it by doing a repair disk permissions but sometime later the JavaAppletPlugin disk permissions change back to the settings prior to the repair.
Why do these particular disk permissions change and should I worry about them?

However, I do have to admit that I am still bothered because, although it may be nothing to worry about, it still pops up as something my Mac thinks is in need of repair and I don't know why the permissions changed if they were supposed to be something specific before. Call me crazy but it seems like it should not pop up if everything were ok.

can anyone help..this might be normal BUT im curious when i switch off my computer and it shuts down fully there is still power to my microsft keyboard ..if i press the "f" key i get the green light on ... also my 4 port mini usb hub is still lit up..now as i say this might be normal on this mobo but it wasnt the case with my 875 neo fis2r version 1 mobo ..any light on this subject is welcome

Honestly, I came here with 550W Qtec and was advised this.....I went to Enermax 365 and then Enermax465......I have not looked back.......

Hi I can't update my apps when I try to update it asks for password when used it goes back to update. I think I'm not alone and have tried changing date switching off signing out and in and rebooting. Is there a solution or do I need to take it in?

I can't update my apps each time it asks for password when entered it goes straight back to update. I don't think I am alone in this. I have tried changing the date, rebooting, switching off and on signing out and nothing works. Does anyone know of a solution or will I have to take it to an apple shop. My misses has no trouble with her updates, they are both on iOS 6. Hope someone can help.

Time machine disk permissions changed to read only

Somehow, my Time Machine disk permissions have now changed tand my backups are failing;
The permissions are:
Me - read/write, Staff - read/write, Everyone - read only. I clicked on the lock and entered my system password, but I cannot change anything.
Then I ran Disk Utilities to repair and verify. Still nothing. I rebooted, logged out, logged back in, etc.
There is plenty of space left on the 2 GB drive. It is a Seagate GoFlex drive.This seems to be a new problems that has not surfaced before. My backups always ran flawlessly.
What to do?

Why does Time machine still ask for a disk when it is switched off?

My Time Capsule recently died, PSU problems , I think. So I went into system prefs and deselected the Time Capsule as the back-up disk in Time Machine and switched off Time Machine. Yet every few minutes I get a window appearing telling me Time Machine can't find a back-up disk. Why is this happening and how do I stop it? Thanks

Mountain Lion may expect to be using a local disk if external is not available..
Delete the plist.. this gives info.. whether it helps I don't know.

ServiceLayer.exe 100 % after switch off cable from...

Hi all
I have problem with Nokia PC Suite.
WinXP S2
Nokia PC Suite 6.84.10.3 cz
non-nokia cable ca42usb
Nokia 3220
After i switch off cable from my USB port servicelayer.exe take me 100 % of PC process. I must CTRL+ALT+DEL and shutdown this process.
I try all. Close Nokia PC Suite, install new driver for cable, off my Nokia.

It's a bug in PC suite 6.84.
Hopefully it will be fixed in 6.85 when it is released.
6.83 works fine and is far more stable and reliable than 6.84.

Word documents have disappeared from my desk top (macbook air) and cannot be found anywhere, happened after switching off and re-bootingk

Saved word documents have dissappeared from the desk top after saving. Problem seems to occur when laptop is switched off and then re-started. they can't be found anywhere e.g tried spotlight, recent documents etc. Help. Joe

Not sure about the MS Word message, but it looks like you might need an upgrade. I'd check with Microsoft, or perhaps VersionTracker.com.
Ok, back to the original problem. Does the message have any other text (intelligible or not)?
Does it give you any options, especially "report"? If so, take it, then look via Console for a crash log.
What IS in the system log for the sleep/wake time? There should be a System Sleep, followed by a System Wake, and perhaps another line or two. Anything in that area might be helpful.

After updating to 10.5.1, my hard disk shows more disk permissions problems. But for 10.5.0, there is only one permission problem which cannot be repaired.

Audio during Call is muted after Switch-off of Pho...

1. Pair with Car infotainment system,
2. Connect as BT Audio & as a BT handsfree kit,
3. Switch off bluetooth without disconnecting (or unpairing) with Car's Audio Infotainment System.
4. make an incoming or outgoing call after phone's BT switch off.
Expected: Call should be normal.
Actual: Call is in progress but audio is muted from phone's speaker because Nokia 5230 is still assuming BT paired device presence.
Recovery: Phone switch OFF-ON

This is not how bluetooth is suppose to work and especially with such an awesome phone MBalmer. What bluetooth device do you have? Did you purchase your bluetooth device from? Let's try removing the connection with your bluetooth and phone completely and then reconnect them. Does the disconnection occur in certain spots? Are you using a special application for bluetooth? I look forward to hearing from you so we can get ths resolved.
