Disk Quotas not showing

Hi,
I have enabled quotas on all the user folders which contain the users home folder and desktop.
I have done this using the 'File Server Resource Manager' on a Winbows Server 2008.
However I have one problem - when logging on as a user on Windows XP and right clicking on the mapped drive and then viewing its properties it does not show the quota size, it just shows the size of the whole drive.
How can I get it to show the quota so that the users can see how much disk space they have used and how much remmaning?
Thanks,
Alex

Unfortunately the only workaround for this problematic for Windows XP clients (and all other clients which are using SMB 1.0) is the actions you also mentioned, also you share every subfolder separately. The problem is a limitation in the SMB (CIFS) protocol
that causes all free space queries to be done on the root of a share. This means that if the quota is set on the root of the share, then the mapped drive will correctly show the quota aware free space. This has been addressed in SMB 2.0 which uses the full
path for the queries, this is the reason why you do not experience this in Windows Vista/7, which uses already SMB 2.0.
Product group worked on this problematic (for a possibly back port fix to SMB 1.0) but unfortunately such a back port is not possible because of high complexity and possible regressions.

  • Disk quota not showing proper

i have a problem with 10.4 server which is installed on a powermac G5 2.5 Ghz System.
I have created users on the internal volume and have enabled disk quota on it.. i have given 30 gb for each users and totally i have created 3 users..
and when i access these users from the network, first time it shows the total volume availabe (my Hdd is 250 Gb) and when i restart the machine am getting only 2 gb as available volume space through the network..
I have tried updating to 10.4.5, still problem persist
Acctually i found the problem as the disk quota is not allocating space more than 2 Gb for all users.
can anyone help me in this

Yes I've noticed this bug too. I think its a bug in Workgroup Manager or the command line programs WGM calls. If you use the edquota command to set disk quotas you can set them to what every you like.

  • My Startup Disk can not show in Finder.

My Startup Disk can not show in Finder.but it can be used in OSX normally.
So can I put it back to Finder?

If the startup disk is for Mac OS 9, neither MacBook nor PowerMac G5 can boot into 9. Only the PowerMac G5 can use Mac OS 9 in Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Classic.
Please be more detailed what sort of Startup Disk you are talking about, which operating system, and which machine this is a problem with.

  • FSRM quota not showing correct usage

The quota management of FSRM doesn't show the correct quota details for drive C:
It's used just to monitor the diskspace so no quotas have been enabled.
Quota details shows limit 50 GB and and Available 18 GB
But Volume details shows capacity 50 GB and Available 6GB
On a non system drive the values are correct.
So I don't get the needed alerts.

    Hi,
This is captured from a just formatted volume:
You can see the Available size shows that about 600MB is already used, while disk quota shows 269KB.
Disk quota check "used space" by checking file owner. If it do not have permission on specific folder, the used space will not be counted. For example, when we right click on "system volume information" folder, it shows 0 byte in using,
but actually there are many files inside including shadow copy files.
As the purpose is to monitor volume usage, you can set the limit to "capacity - used space" - It is not a solution but as we cannot show all used space, it could be a quick workaround.

  • Alias icons in disk images - not showing correctly

    Hi,
I already posted about this problem on Macworld Forums, so far no answers. Maybe here I'll get some.
    The problem is:
whenever I download an app from the Internet, it mostly comes as a disk image. And it's OK if the DMG file contains only app and "read me" file. But more often it contains the alias to /Applications folder.
    That's the problem:
the icon for that alias does not show properly, it always generates some icon with another icon above it. Issuing "Get Info" (Cmd-I) command, and tabbing to the icon, then deleting that annoying icon, restoring to the default one, does not work.
Any ideas what should I do?
    Thank you.

    Hi Sanjin
So it is more than only disk images but a system wide problem, in that case, a general approach is needed.
I suggest you run Repair Disk on your start up drive, from your install DVD.
The startup drive can only be repaired from another drive. Simply loading the install disk is not sufficient. You have to boot from the install disk.
To do this: Insert the Install Disk 1 into the drive and then select Restart, then continue to hold down the C key until the Apple logo appears.
This will take you to the installation software, but you do not want to install.
Select your language, then go up to the top menu bar to Utilities and navigate to the Disk Utilities application.
Select the start up drive, then follow the instructions in the First Aid pane where you can click on Repair Disk.
If it finds errors, repeat the process until it reports no errors.
After these repairs, quit the application, and restart normally.
Once restarted normally run Repair Permissions. from the Disk Utility application found on your hard drive in Application/Utilities.
    regards roam

  • Unallocated disk space not showing up in disk management

I have an HP Proliant dl 380 running Windows 2008. My c:\drive was built on a 33 gig raid 1 partition. I am almost out of drive space. I have tried this method before on Windows server 2000 and it worked. However this time it did not. I took one
of the 33 gig drives out and put a 146 gig drive in it's place. I let the mirror rebuild itself. When it was done I put the other 146 gig drive in and let it rebuild. Now I still have the 33 gig partition but when I ran disk management
the unallocated space did not show up so I cannot extend the volume. I tried to rescan the drives and have device manager rescan as well but no go. I talked with hp and they had me update the firmware of the raid card and restart but still nothing.
    Can anyone help?

  • Hard disk partition not showing up during window 7 install

want to install fresh OS from usb stick but the hard disk partition is not showing up. Only USB stick is getting detected.
Please help .. I have an interview and I need to fix this issue asap.

    Hi there,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel.
I understand that your hard drive is not showing up, presumably as a bootable partition. I am happy to help, but I need a bit more clarification of your problem. You mention a 0x00000116 error as well, which is normally part of a Blue Screen of Death. Does this happen regularly as well, or is that the real complaint, that you are getting the 0x code and a BLue Screen on startup?
That particular code is generally associated with a video driver problem.
Is the hard drive you are trying to install to, a new replacement hard drive or the original hard drive?
If you try to boot up the system, what error do you see?
Are there any repeating flashing LED patterns, or beeping patterns?
Assuming this is your original installed hard drive, did you try the recovery manager for the drive?

  • My Macbook Pro mid 2012 is not reading/connecting to my (working)external hard disk(also not showing in disk utility)

I connected my 500GB Storjet external hard drive to my mac(Mountain Lion) http://in.transcend-info.com/products/Catlist.asp?modno=325 but it is not connecting to it. Disk Utility is also not showing it. and the hard disk is working... My PS3, My Sony TV and my other laptop(win7) is detecting it... Also whenever it gets connected a blue light blinks, but It doesnt for mac. I have tried reformatting to both FAT32 and NTFS... Please help..
Also I sorta screwed my Mac so I had to do the internet recovery thing and only after that such problems occured, it was working fine before. So it installed Lion first and then Mountain Lion. It wasn't working on any of the OS.

Power down the Mac, Full power off. Connect the drive using the Y cable and then turn the Mac back on.
If it still doesn't show in at least Disk Utility then start checking your USB ports to see if both are working properly. Just plug in a USB thumb drive and that should show in both Finder and Disk Utility. If one of the ports isn't seeing the thumb drive then that port is bad and the system needs to be services by Apple.

  • Hard disk does not show in finder

WE had a system failure with our server instance a month back and since then, one of my internal HD's will not show in finder. It's also causing carbon copy pro to fail when trying to find it. I have verified it can be seen in the disk utility and from a terminal prompt. I rant this to confirm:
{ diskutil list; echo; diskutil cs list; } | open -f -a TextEdit
No matter what I do, i cannot see it. Verify and repair in disk util come up saying it's okay. I have selected show HDD's in finder preferences. A possibly related side effect is that my users, who can browse this over the network, cannot search in the directory.
Any help you can lend would be helpful.

  • Disk Info not showing capacities

    Hi everyone,
I have an old G4 as a classroom computer and something odd is happening to how it sees the hard drives. I tried to copy a file to them from a networked computer and there was not enough space which was not true.
The Finder will not show a disk size
Disk Utility shows the size and available space
Permissions, and disk repair have been completed
    What else to try??
    Here's a screenshot

  • After updating IPhoto to 9.5.1 my newly burned IDVD disks will not show on my Bluray player but will on my regular player.  I burned the disk the same way as I did before Iphoto update.

My Apple computer has OSX Version 10.9.3 installed, IPHOTO 9.5.1, IMOVIE 7.1.4 and IDVD 7.1.2.  Before I installed OSX and IPHOTO 9.5.1 updates I could burn disks of my videos and they would show on all my DVD players and still do.  The disks I recently burns will not show on my Samsung Blu-ray player, but, will show on my regular player.  I tried in both Magic DVD and One Step DVD From Movies with the same results.  I used the same process before and after the problem.  I am 75 years old and am not as computer savvy so I am not sure were to start troubleshooting the problem.  Any help would be appreciated.
    Don

What brand and type of DVD disk did you use?  The most recommended brands around here are Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R.
What speed did you burn at?  It's recommended to burn at the slowest speed possible to ensure the best quality disk, 2x -4x.
I have a Sony BlueRay player that will not take most of my home burned disks.  It seems to be more particular.

  • Disk Drives not showing in Sidebar or on Desktop.  Any ideas?

    All,
I'm having a strange problem that I first noticed last night. It appears that the internal disk drive on my PowerBook G4 does not show up on the desktop or in the Finder's sidebar, despite selecting these options in the Finder's preferences.
I do know that it was there when I first installed Leopard, but I'm not entirely sure when the icons disappeared. Nothing I do brings it back. This includes trashing all Finder and Sidebar preferences, trashing all caches, repairing permissions, and zapping the PRAM (I didn't expect results, but it was worth a try, I figured).
When I click on the icon for my computer, all that shows up is "Network". It's almost like the disk drive is invisible to the Finder. All other icons show up in the sidebar as they're supposed to, including iDisk, CD-DVD images, and flash drives.
I have the option selected in the Finder to show the path to the current folder in any given Finder window. I can access the hard drive that way.
Here's something else that's weird - when I have a new Finder window open, I click the "Path" button (addition to the toolbar). My internal hard drive is NOT SELECTABLE when I do this. It appears, but it's grayed out for some reason.
Has anyone else seen this? I'm going to file a bug report with Apple. If I hear anything, I'll post back.
    Thanks!

    UPDATE:
I found this article on the web:
    http://www.pinkmutant.com/articles/invisible.html
So, as suspected, my internal hard disk became "invisible" somehow. My best guess is something happened when I auto-updated iTunes and/or QuickTime. See the article for details on the "SetFile" command.
Anyway, here's the AppleScript code that I found, and this should take care of it:
    tell application "System Events"
set visible of disk "NameofDisk" to true
    end tell
You should be able to launch the Script Editor application, enter the code, and click the "Run" button. That should fix the issue, after you log off and back on again (or restart the Finder).
I'll try this tonight when I get home. Meanwhile, if anyone else has this problem and can try this solution now, please do so and post your experience(s).
    Thanks!

  • External hard disk does not show in finder

WD usb external hard disk does not appear in finder.  Disk utility sees it and will mount/unmount and eject.  I ran repair disk util. and all is well but still does not appear in finder

Hey Hatter,  Thanx for the input.
Among other things I tried was a terminal routine someone suggested with no luck and new drivers/firmware for the drive, again, no luck.
I still don't know for sure what caused my problem, but I re-partitioned the drive and re-formatted it and that seemed to solve the provlem.  Sadly, I lost all my info that was backed up on that particular drive but hopefully it won't come back to bite me later.
    Cheers!!
