Disk recovery

PLEASE HELPPPP,
My computer slowed down and I restarted the disk but after the computer (macbook pro 13") reboot it doesn't go any further and doenst pass the gray screen. I had no options but to erase the Disk and reinstall OS X as the disk won't repair, but now i lost all data!! PLEASE could anyone help with a way to recover the disk?

Try using a data recovery product such as the ones listed here. Don't write anything else to the drive until the files are recovered or you choose not to recover them.

  • Data recovery software that help recover lost partition due to using Disk Recovery Assistant on a 2TB HDD?

I Just use the Disk Recovery Assistant on my 2TB HDD and it wipe it clean. What are the best data recovery tool out there that allow me to recover the lost partition and see the file in folders view not files view like in some data recovery like Disk Drill?
using ML 10.8 something I tried appleXsoft but no luck.

    My best suggestion is
    Stellar Phoenix Mac Data Recovery
    http://www.macintosh-data-recovery.com/
Download the free trial version of the software and use the option "Search Lost/Deleted Volumes", It will scan the drive and show you all lost partitions list on preview. Once you click on the selected partition it will show you again 3 options ,
Quick Recovery- This option is very effective on case of volume corruption
Advanced Recovery- This option recovers data from formatted volume and scans each and every block of volume for lost data.
Deleted File Recovery.- It scans unused blocks of volume to recover deleted data.
On successful recovery the software will show the files in folders view with the folder structure..In case you are unable to see the desired results you would need to go for Raw Recovery which will show results on file basis. This option is only required incase the previous option does not give you the desired results.
    Cheers !!

There are 3 options, Save Log, Details, Retry. When I try 'Retry' it asks for recovery media. I've put my recovery disk 6 and disk 1 in, but nothing happens. Oddly enough, the command prompt (cmd.exe) is open at this point. Now whenever I restart the laptop it goes to the same restoration error screen with the command prompt open and minimized in the lower left hand corner.
Pressing F10 (BIOS Setup) or F11 (System Recovery) after starting doesn't do anything, it just goes straight the the Restoration Incomplete message. Pressing Esc during start goes to the Startup menu, but pressing F10 or F11 there just does the same thing. F2 System Diagnostics works. I ran quick memory check, everything passed. I ran the long hard drive check. Overall it passed, and each one passed except for optimized dst it said 'not available'. When I choose BIOS Management from Diagnostics UEFI, and try either a BIOS Update or BIOS Rollback, I get 'The selected BIOS image was not available.' My system's BIOS ID is F.23. When I try to select a BIOS Image to apply, I've clicked through the file trees and there's nothing there to choose.
I tried recovering the BIOS pressing Windows and b key when starting. The screen stayed blank and the caps lock light kept flashing but nothing happened. The screen just stayed blank and no bios update screen appeared.
Did my BIOS become corrupted during the system restoration from disk?
    Any  suggestions or options?
    Thanks.

  • Recommendations for best disk recovery software

I'm reading up on various reviews on disk recovery software, but just wanted to get some of your opinions and recommendations.
I use to use Nortons back in the old days of System 7 and beige G3s but haven't need to use such software until now, so i'm a bit out of the loop.

As far as Recovery is concerned I would say Data Rescue is pretty good.
    http://www.prosofteng.com/products/data_rescue.php
More important as I am sure you are aware however is a good cloning and or backup plan. I have a Lacie d2 external with three partitions (clone, data and emergency boot). I use Super Duper for the cloning, also manually backup very important files on data archive. Both the clone and emergency boot partitions are bootable.
And, I also burn very, very important files to CD/DVD.

  • Old iPod Will not leave disk recovery mode; wont register on comp

    Hey,
I have my old, black-n-white, 15gb scrollwheel iPod. A few days ago, the folder icon popped up. I followed Apples troubleshooting and reset the iPod to disk recovery mode. Now the only thing is that it is stuck in "Disk Mode -- OK to disconnect." and nothing i can click press will exit that screen, not even trying to reset again. Note, the hold button icon still properly shows up on the screen when it is switched.
To make matters worse, when I try connecting my iPod to my computer, it will not get recognized by the comp, and makes my iTunes freeze and I am forced to close it.
So, what is up? did my iPod die? i just dont want to buy a new one. =(

Hold down the PLAY and MENU buttons to get it out of disk mode. Wait until you see the Apple logo on the screen. It may take as long as 10 to 20 seconds before it happens.

  • Using the disk to disk recovery tool to image a new hard drive

I have a new SSD hard drive that I am installing and want a fresh version on Win 7. I plan on using my existing hard drive just for data and to maintin the recovery partion in case I need it again.  I want to do a disk to disk recovery.  I get to the point in the Recovery 4.3 software where it prompts me to confirm I will loose all my data on the partition, but I do not see where it allows me to choose the new hard drive.  I do not want to loose my data so I exited out.  Did I not go far enough into the processs to allow me to choose the hard drive?  I have not found a manual for the recovery tool to show me what's next.  I have the new hard drive installed in the ultrabay.

    Thanks,

Check on your HDD win 7 RNR if you have the Create Product Recovery option.  This will back up the Recovery Partition. First disc is bootable  recovery, you can use a CD.  Second disc is data, try a DVD for this.  It may create a 3rd disc.
When you get done, you want a recovery partition on the SDD.   The recovery bootable and partition are fairly small.
Thus, when you use these disc to populate the SDD, you have a recovery partition on the SDD.
When I ordered my PC, I ordered 2 HDD's 120GB and 320GB.  Windows does not let you select where the operating system goes to.  It uses the first HDD  it finds (which might be your win 7 Hdd!!). In my case, it came from the factory with (vista) on the 320GB.  I had to swap them, similar to what you are doing. I used the Product Recovery disk set AND had to disconnect the 320GB for the recovery to go to the 120GB.
What size is your HDD and SDD?  I would take backups of your Win 7 system.  Last thing you want is a messed up win 7 HDD. If all works, you will have a bootable HDD and SDD and might have to decide which one to use every time you boot up.
Down the road, when SSD is as you like it, copy the HDD data over to the SDD.  Erase the HDD, then copy the HDD data back over.  Thus HDD is truly a second hard drive(data drive).
Side note:  The placement of the New win 7 is dependent on the Logic of the Recovery partition. I would guess where  ever the Q drive is created, that is where the operating system is going to go.  Could be Win7 install (standalone win 7 install DVD) logic Now allows you to choose Hard drive 1 or Hard drive 2,

  • Help required . Disk recovery and OS installation

Hallo, I'm following a procedure I was given by a Genius at Apple Store. I had an issue with the disk and I formatted and I was trying to install the OS. it went for Internet recovery and it asked me to install Mountain Lion (which I hadn't bought before. So I wasn't allowed to install it.
Then I went to a different machine, a  MacBook and I bought with my apple I'd the mountain lion OS. But it yet doesn't allow the installation.. Any hint?
    Thanks a lot
    Andrea

Also another question. To install the SDK1.4, do I just install it like I normally do as in a Win98 box? I thought there was a XP plug-in that needed to be downloaded and installed too some time ago? Did the plug-in later became built into the installation bundle? I read somewhere there was a legal judgement made to force Microshaft to support Java?
Sorry I've been out of the XP loop...

  • NSS Disk Recovery

    Hi All.
I have plugged one of my data disks into a raid controller, which has corrupted the pools. There was one pool, one volume on this 146GB scsi disk.
I bought Pheonix NSS recovery which is the only tool i have been able to scan the corrupt pool with, and manage to pull back some files, but about 70% of the recovered files are corrupt or copies.
I figured that its probably only the headers that are corrupt, and I want to manually rebuild them.
Can anyone point me to some detailed info on the disk layout of NSS partitions, pools, volumes and file systems ?
I really need this data recovered.
    Thanks

If jgray's fix from Novell doesn't work, I'm afraid you're going to be
logging a call to OnTrack, or maybe Portlock, for recovery services...

  • Identify which disk recovery points are stored on?

We have 3 disks in DPM, one of which is flaky and keeps going missing from DPM.  We started by migrating our most important datasources to another disk (on a temporary basis) while we ordered a new SAN with the view to moving everything onto the new
SAN.  This has worked for most datasources but I have a problem with one.
For the purpose of this thread we have:
Disk 1 - old, flacky disk
    Disk 2 - temporary disk
    Disk 3 - new SAN
I am trying to move a datasource from disk 2 to disk 3 but am getting the following error:
Set-ProtectionGroup : D:\ has recently been migrated. You cannot migrate D:\ again until the recovery points on the previous replica volume are available.
    (ID: 31224)

        + FullyQualifiedErrorId : ChainedMigrationError,Microsoft.Internal.EnterpriseStorage.Dls.UI.Cmdlet.ProtectionCmdLets.CommitProtectionGroup
Prior to attempting this, I removed (using remove-recoverypoint) the old recovery points I believed to be on Disk 1 rather than waiting for them to expire on their own.  This worked for other datasources but doesn't work for this.
I found an SQL query on another fourm post and ran it:
    use DPMDB
    select dsk.NTDiskNumber,vol.MountPointPath,ag.NetbiosName, ds.DataSourceName,  vol.Usage as "1=REPLvol 2=RPvol", vol.VolumeSize,lr.lastbackuptime
    from tbl_IM_DataSource as ds
    join tbl_PRM_LogicalReplica as lr
    on ds.DataSourceId=lr.DataSourceId
    join tbl_AM_Server as ag
    on ds.ServerId=ag.ServerId
    join tbl_SPM_Volume as vol
    on lr.PhysicalReplicaId=vol.VolumeSetID
    and vol.Usage in (1,2)
    join tbl_SPM_Extent as ext
    on vol.guidname=ext.guidname
    join tbl_SPM_Disk as dsk
    on ext.diskid=dsk.diskid
    where ntdisknumber=4 and lastbackuptime < getdate()-7 and NetbiosName='FILESERVER1'
    order by lastbackuptime
    and the output is:

    NetbiosName DataSourceName
    1=REPLvol 2=RPvol VolumeSize

Is that DPM telling me there are still recovery points on that disk?  If not, is there a way to tell which recovery points pertaining to this datasource are still on Disk 1?

That message sounds like it expects data to be on the old disk but it may be having issues.  These are all dynamic volumes so taking the disk offline and then back online usually fixes dynamic disk errors.  Then do a rescan in DPM.
I usually find the volume on the disk by using disk manager.
Go to the protected item (e.g. VM, volume, etc.) in the Protection view
In the bottom pane, choose the Click to view details link to get the path
Right-click on the path and copy it.
Paste the path into Notepad or similar so you can see it
In the path, there will be a GUID prefixed by "vol_"
    Open Disk Manager (diskmgmt.msc)
Look for the volume that has DPM-vol_GUID where GUID is from step 6.  Click on it and that will highlight the partition in the display at the bottom of disk manager.  That is the disk that holds all the data for that protection item.
Sometimes it can be hard to tell which partition is highlighted on the disk and I'm sure there is a simpler, more elegant way.
After you find the partition, you could clone it onto a new disk.
You may have to end up just replacing the disk and recreating the replica.  You can do that by following the information in this post (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/fa0402d3-67d4-4fe5-8ed1-5666fd6b0ff6/dpm-disk-failure?forum=dpmstorage).
Replace the bad drive and then run DPMSYNC -Reallocatereplica.
    Not sure if this helps...

  • CS3, Forensic Disk Recovery - can someone advise this gal?

Okay this is a bit loaded but I will try and make it simple.
Ive had a hard drive and back up wipe me out… everything. The hard drive is being looked at by a forensic data recovery to see if they can retain anything. Anyways… I had CS3 the master suite collection installed on my iMac, now i'm just trying to get a "quick" set up going with a new hard drive till I see if any files are coming back. After the crash CS3 is all gone… what I want to know is:
    A) Is it possible to have CS3 reinstalled (I don't have the disks / but I do have my serial number) Do I need the disks or can Adobe re-install from their end?
    B) For the sake of speed if I download a 30 day trial of the Creative Cloud or even purchase a subscription and then locate the disks later can I go back to CS3?
If you can advise I would greatly appreciate it. BIG Thank You in advance!!!

What exactly does that error page say?
Here is a link to an alternative download page: http://prodesigntools.com/download-adobe-cs4-and-cs3-free-trials-here.html
Make sure you follow the Very Important Instructions on that page.
    P.S. thanks for your PM!

    Hi, masih_300
I did some research and was able to find this thread. Other users have had this issue and have been able to fix it. Some of the fixes require extra software installed, while some of them involve using a Windows installation disc. You may be able to find a solution that works for you, too!
    Hope it helps,

  • Startup Disk: Recovery HD partition not shown

Every time I boot up, I get a message saying 'your computer had problems last time it shut down....'
I've been doing some looking around (removing all peripherals, disabling all s/ware from starting up etc) to no avail.
So I was thinking of reinstalling the OS.
BUT - when I went to start up from the recovery partition, it only shows the SSD where the usual copy of the OS resides. It doesn't show the option to reboot from the Recovery partition, nor the TechTool Pro eDrive I also have installed. Rebooting with CMD-R also doesn't show the other drives.
If I go to Disk Utility and check the 'show all partitions' in the Debug menu, the Recovery partition and the eDrive are shown, but greyed out.
What I am thinking of doing is going to the App Store, downloading Yosemite from there and reinstalling - in the hope that this will recreate the recovery partition, but I have a feeling I should create a bootable USB drive with the Yosemite installer on it and do it that way.
Am I right, or can I just download and install from the App Store directly?
Obviously - backing up all data etc in advance!
Of course this may not solve the original error message problem - but needs doing I think!
    Thanks

FWIW, I did a clean install of Mavericks with a bootable USB drive, which I created following the instructions in this link:
    http://www.gottabemobile.com/2013/10/22/perform-clean-install-os-x-mavericks/
The short method did not work. I succeeded with the longer method.
Mavericks installed without a hitch, after which I spent hours customizing settings, clean installing applications and restoring data from my prior Mountain Lion backup. No problems at all, just very time consuming.
However, I could not activate "Find my Mac" because the installer had not created a a Recovery HD. I trawled the forums and was discouraged by the apparent complexity of creating one.
This is what I did, which worked perfectly and required very little attention. It is almost automatic, fail proof and done in under an hour (with a fast internet connection to download Mavericks at just over 5GB).
1.- Back up the system. Better still, clone your system to an external HD using Carbon Copy Cloner.
2.- Download Mavericks from the App Store.
3.- It will warn you that you already have 10.9 installed. Download anyway.
4.- When it finishes downloading you'll get a window prompting you to install. Confirm.
5.- Enter your user password when prompted.
6.- Go for a walk. In about 45 min your system will have restarted Mavericks and all your settings, applications and data will be there.
7.- Check that you now have a Recovery HD by restarting the system, holding the Option key down when you hear the startup gong. You'll (hopefully) see the system HD and the Recovery HD (10.9).
    Hope this will help someone.

  • Hard Disk Recovery from a Dead Mac Book Pro 13inch

What is the best way to recover information on your hard disk from a mac book pro that will not start from water damage?

When my daughter's MBP died due to drop-related damage, I removed the hard drive and placed it in this enclosurehttp://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/ES2.5BPU2S/ and she now connects it to her new MBP by the USB port when she wants material from the old drive.
For less than $20 it is pretty hard to go wrong.

  • Regarding Voting disk recovery scenarios

    Hi,
For years i have read about RAC and Voting disk and it is said that each node should access more than half of the voting disks but never got a chance to work on the below scnerios which i have mentioned, if some one has practical done the below scenarios or have good knowledge do let me know.
    1) If i have 5 voting disks and out of which 2 got corrupted or deleted will the cluster keep working properly? If i boot my system or restart the cluster will it still work fine or not?
    2) The above scenario with 3 voting disk deleted or got corrupted  what will happen?
    3) If i have 2 OCR and i got deleted or corrupted will the system run fine?

    Aman,
During startup the clusterware requires the majority of votes to start the CSS Daemon.
The majority is counted on how many was configured, not how many remain alive.

Ps. If was configured a diskgroup (OCR_VOTE) with high redundancy (5 asmdisk each in your onw failgroup), even diskgroup can hold 3 asmdisk failure. The diskgroup goes down and if there is only one OCR (no mirror) on that Diskgroup the whole clusterware goes down.

  • ASM failover disk recovery

    hi,
i configured ASM with two raw disks in server1....and i created DB and i imported 31gb data into it,
    i created diskgroup as follows...
    CREATE DISKGROUP DATA NORMAL REDUNDANCY
    FAILGROUP failure_group_1 DISK
    '/dev/diska1' NAME diska1,
    FAILGROUP failure_group_2 DISK
    '/dev/diskb1' NAME diskb1,
i disconnected one raw disk from server1,
after disconnection of one raw disk from server1, DB was up in server1 up and
i connected that disconnected disk to server2, i installed oracle software and grid software in server2
my question is how to bring DB up in server2 using that second disk2 ?
can you direct me ...and your help would be appreciable.......

What you are trying to do normally works if it is an OS or hardware level mirroring of disks where one mirror can be used to build the "things" on some other machine by breaking the mirror "through proper channel". I don't think you can do same for ASM mirror.
When you unplugged the ASM mirror, it should be in an incosistent state and hence it makes it unusable on some other server. This is theoritically a corrupted ASM miorror now.
