Disk Repair on a late 2007 Mac Book Pro

I just ran a Disk Check on my Mac after the warped batery issue I had two days ago; it tells me to start up the machine from my Mac OS X installation disk and run Disk Utility to repair.
I have cold feet insamuch as my Start Up disk is the old Tiger - and I have snow Leopard 10.6.5 installed on the machine; does that mean that I will downgrade to Tiger and then have to insert the Leopard disk after to upgrade? What about all my other "stuff" which is all up to date (including aperture 3, which I am a great user of...). What should I do?
Your advice is eargerly sought...Thanks
an aging baby boomer.... Marc

Hi Marc,
Here are step by step in case you need them (and nothing to worry about performing Repair Disk):
Repair Disk: Boot from install disc (insert disc>restart>immediately hold down c key and keep holding it until you see “Preparing Installation”)>at first screen select the language and click Continue> click on the Utilities Menu in the menu bar>open Disk Utility>select your HD in the panel on the left side>click Repair Disk at bottom of main window. Run this at least twice, and keep running it until it says “appears ok” twice in a row. If that doesn’t happen, you may need a stronger utility such as DiskWarrior or if the directory is damaged beyond repair, you may need to reinstall the OS, or you may have a damaged HD (repair utilities can only repair the directory structure, not the HD itself). When this is finished, quit Disk Utility, quit the installer, and restart.

  • My late 2007 Mac Book Pro has tiny vertical lines in the display intermittently.

Intermittent, tiny vertical lines in display of my refurbished Mac Book Pro late 2007 , A1226 model.
Have replaced the actual display screen.
Apple Genius Bar tested hardware and all OK, although the display was working by the time I got there.
It is fine right now, I am using it for this post, but is hard to read small letters and numbers when it acts up.
Even when the lines appear the display shows bright and crisp on any external monitor.
Does anyone have any insight to this problem?
    Thanks !

It could be the inverter cable or board is beginning to get frayed.
If attaching an external display shows the lines, you know the problem is direct to the videochip itself.
Some games are videochip specific in their requirements and may trigger the issue anyway, if the videochip is not on their supported list.

How do you move pictures from iPhoto to an SD Card on a late 2011 Mac Book Pro 15 inch?

Do you have a SD slot? If not you get a USB to SD memory card adpater at the computer/office/online store and use that.
It appears as a drive on your machine and you can use Export from iPhoto or drag and drop methods too.
    Make sure you backup

Is it possible to use a 2007 Mac book pro as a monitor for a current Mac mini?

Use a product such as ScreenRecycler over a network. All of these products require a standalone monitor to set up.

I have a Late 2011 Mac Book Pro 17" and I want to install a Samsung 840 EV 2.5 1TB.  What accessories if any do I need? I want to place my order once with all that is needed to install this equipment.

No you don't. All currently available commercial hard drives and SSDs have the same SATA connectors in the exact same place.
As to being plug and play that is up to interpretation. The drive will plug into the cable but then you have to partition and format the drive for the Mac OS X operating system and then install OS X on it or restore from a Time Machine backup or Clone from your original drive to the SSD. Those things aren't necessarily Plug & Play. Not hard, just time consuming. Some more than the others.

i have a mid 2007 mac book pro and i cant get mac osx mountain lion
please get back to me and it says on the apple website i would be able to get it

I would make sure it's deffinetely a mid 2007, and that's not just when you purchased it. Also you need at least 2GB of RAM and an intel core 2 duo processor with 8GB of HD space.

I have an 2007 mac book pro that does not have a place for HDMI cable.  Can you please tell which converter I need?

You will need something such as this:
    http://www.amazon.com/A-Sonic-HDMI-HD15-Male-Cable/dp/B001OLCHJ6
    Ciao.
Note that this will only transmit video.  If you need sound, the audio output port will have to be tapped.

  • Boot Camp Question .... I just bought a 2013 late model Mac Book Pro Retina and am wondering if it is worth installing windows through boot camp. If I install the windows component in order to run an exe file and its component "Declans Korean Flash Cards"

I just bought a 2013 late model Mac Book Pro Retina and am wondering if it is worth installing windows through boot camp.
If I install the windows component in order to run an exe file and its component "Declans Korean Flash Cards"... will it make my mac suseptible to viruses overall due to having a windows component? also will it make my mac slower as well

If you are only going to use one or two window only programs then I wouldn't waste the space.  Try WinonX it allows you to install exe. Files on Mac without installing windows.

  • My late 2008 mac book pro runs slow and freezes

Hi, there! I have a late 2008 mac book pro and few months ago I upgraded the operating system from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. Since then my mac book often freezes, it is much slower than it was with Snow Leopard and the most annoying thing of all, is the almost inevidable freezing of the toolbar (where language selection, date, clock and other useful tools are located)
I was wondering if someone has experienced similar issues with his Mac Book Pro when upgraded to OSX Mountain Lion and if someone knows if and how this issue can be resolved?
    Thank you.

I have the same problem. Up until 2 days ago my MacBook Pro was running fine, then suddenly things started going wrong. I am using mac os x 10.6.7 as well. Does this have something to do with any firmware updates.
    Any help/ suggestions welcome.

  • How do I update a 2007 Mac Book Pro to snow lepeord?

I have a Mac Book pro (2007) I would like to update to Lion but it currently has leopard on it and I need to find snow leopard before I can update to Lion. Where can I update the Mac Book to snow leopard?

You call Apple and purchase a Snow Leopard installer disk. After you install Snow Leopard you update to 10.6.8 and then from the App Store you can purchase and download Lion.

  • Late 2008 Mac Book Pro with Thunderbolt display: Compatibility

I have a Mac Book Pro Late 2008 (15inch) and want to buy a 27inch thunderbolt display, because in the future I will buy a mac book air (thunderbolt)...
    but for now:
1: Can I use my late 2008 MacPro with thunderbolt?
1a:If yes, which functions work, which not...
1b:If yes, how to connect? I do not have any cables so far
1c:If yes, will my resolution increase on the 27inch or will I have the resolution of the mac book? What about the future Mac Book Air? Which resolution will be?
2: If I cannot use it, is there any exchange program from Apple for old Macs against new ones? (Like for cars they have)

I have a Late 2011 MacBookPro that I bought with the stock 5400 RPM HD.  Before I did anything with it, I replaced it with a Momentus XT drive.  In my Late 2007 MBP, I have used the original 160GB 5400 RPM drive for a few months before replacing it with a 7200 RPM (non XT) drive, and the difference was noticable, but not huge.  For me, the move from 7200 RPM to 7200RPM-Hybrid was noticable, but not huge.  I would say that you won't be disappointed by goign to a hybrid drive (as long as you get the 750GB version as some of the 500GB ones had firmware issues that caused nightmares for some Mac users.
Now that I look more closely, you will probably see a fairly huge jump, as your existing drive is only negotatiating a SATA-I link, where the Momentus XT is a SATA-III drive, so it will be able to negotiate a SATA-II link to get the best performance of your controller.

  • Can i add a second hard drive to my late 2011 mac book pro 15.4

I have the 750 GB HD and am getting down to 300Gb I would like to ad the 750 hybrid to my mac book pro. But didn't  know if there was a place to mount it because I havent taken it apart.

You'd have to remove the Superdrive...will void your warranty...and use something like this:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/DDAMBS0GB/
If you have any problems, you will have to reverse it all before you go to a genius bar. Many users do this with no issues.
