Disk Repairs Please Help!

I know there are many posts about this problem, but none of them have seemed to help me out.  My Imac runs fast and fine, but when i pull up safari pages take unusually long to load and sometimes dont completely load without saying something like "23 out of 25 files downloaded, or 4 problems while downloading page."  I figured maybe i need to do some disk repairs.  While trying to verify my disks i get the warning "This disk needs to be repaired, start up comp with another disk annd then use disk utility to repair disk." The problem here is that i don't have my installation disk and this is where i am stuck!  Now this might not be my problem anyways, so maybe someone could help me out..  The problems with the disk are  "Invalid directory item count" & "The volume Macintosh HD was found corrupt and needs to be repaired."

First, you cannot repair the drive without the installer disc or another bootable system such as a bootable clone on an external drive. So you can contact AppleCare to purchase replacement discs. Meanwhile, you can purchase Disk Warrior that will come on a bootable DVD.
You can try some intermediate efforts to repair the drive by doing the following:
Boot into single-user mode.  After startup is completed you will be in command line mode and should see a prompt with a cursor positioned after it.  At the prompt enter the following then press RETURN:
/sbin/mount -uw /
/sbin/fsck -fy
If you receive a message that says "***** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED *****" then re-run the command until you receive a message that says "** The volume (name_of_volume) appears to be OK."  If you re-run the command more than seven times and do not get the OK message, then the drive cannot be repaired this way. If you were successful then enter:
reboot
and press RETURN to restart the computer.
