Disk replacement procedure for cluster

Hi,
I have a clustered duplex server with 2 shared external disk shelves.
The disks are striped and then mirrored.
There was a hard disk failure with one of the mirrored disks.
I've found two different disk replacement procedures from the Sunsolve site that people say is the "correct" procedure to replace a disk.
# Doc ID 77375

# Doc ID 70849
http://sunsolve.sun.com/search/document.do?assetkey=1-9-70849-1
I've used the 77375 procedure before but had some trouble with it.
I haven't tried the 70849 procedure yet.
My question:
Has anyone used better/correct procedure than these to replace a hard disk?
I would greatly appreciate if I can get some recommendations based on successful experiences.
Thank you

  • Disk Array 2530-M2 disk replacement procedure via CLI

    Hi,
    I wish to know the procedure to replace the Sun/Oracle Storage Disk Array 2530-M2's disk.
    From the manuals it can be seen that the expected way is via the WEB based GUI. But the problem is that we haven't installed that, we are using only the CLI based commands (CAM) .
    So it will be a great help if I can get any pointers in this regard. Awaiting eagerly.
    Thanks,
    Savvy

    If you want to see what the alarm looks like, you can run the following command on your CAM server:
    # ras_admin advisor -e <event type>
    /* `ras_admin` is under:
    /* Solaris: /opt/SUNWsefms/bin/
    /* Linux: /opt/sun/cam/private/fms/bin/
    /* Windows: C:\Program Files\Sun\Common Array Manager\Component\fms\bin\
    We have three type of PFA, Risk Low, Risk Medium, Risk High.
    Example for a 6180 (90.xx.xxxx):
    Event Code : 90.66.1026
    Event Type : 6180.ProblemEvent.REC_IMPENDING_DRIVE_FAILURE_RISK_LOW
    Severity : 0
    Sample Description : Impending drive failure for disk {0} (Low Data Availability
    Risk).
    Probable Cause : A drive is reporting internal errors that could cause the
    drive to fail. If the affected drive is an unassigned
    drive, it will not be available for volume configuration.
    If the affected drive is a Standby hot spare drive, it will
    not be available to take over for a failed drive.
    Recommended Action : Refer to the Service Advisor procedure for recovering from
    this problem.
    Event Code : 90.66.1025
    Event Type : 6180.ProblemEvent.REC_IMPENDING_DRIVE_FAILURE_RISK_MED
    Severity : 0
    Sample Description : Impending drive failure in Virtual Disk {0} (Medium Data
    Availability Risk), affected drive(s): {1}
    Probable Cause : A drive is reporting internal errors that could cause the
    drive to fail. If this drive fails, the volumes in the
    volume group will become degraded.
    Recommended Action : Refer to the Service Advisor procedure for recovering from
    this problem.
    Event Code : 90.66.1024
    Event Type : 6180.ProblemEvent.REC_IMPENDING_DRIVE_FAILURE_RISK_HIGH
    Severity : 0
    Sample Description : Impending drive failure in Virtual Disk {0} (High Data
    Availability Risk), affected drive(s): {1}
    Probable Cause : A drive is reporting internal errors that could cause the
    drive to fail. If this drive fails before you follow the
    recovery steps, the volumes in the volume group will fail
    and all data on the volumes will be lost.
    Recommended Action : Refer to the Service Advisor procedure for recovering from

  • Logical Disk Performance counter for cluster shared volume on Hyper-V

    Hello All,
    I am trying to collect counters like latency, queuelength from Win32_PerfFormattedData_PerfDisk_LogicalDisk WMI class.
    Output of "Name" attribute for logical disks in this class as below:
    Name: _Total
    Name: C:
    Name: E:
    Name: HarddiskVolume1
    Name: Q:
    Name here doesn't show the actual label so I queried Win32_Volume class and wanted to join with performance WMI class. Out put of Win32_Volume is as below:
    Caption: E:\
    Label: New Volume
    Name: E:\
    Caption: Q:\
    Label: Quorum
    Name: Q:\
    Caption: C:\
    Label: Voume C
    Name: C:\
    Caption: F:\
    Label: SAN
    Name: F:\
    Please note that "Name" attribute matches for all except one with label "SAN". This is cluster shared volume and "Name" attribute value is "HardDiskVolume1" in Win32_PerfFormattedData_PerfDisk_LogicalDisk class.
    Is this is a configuration issue or any other alternative to get volume label and corresponding performance counters.
    Thanks in advance
    Regards,
    Udupa

    Hi Udupa,
    I haven't found a better way, if you want to combine the two script, please refer to the script below:
    $output=@()
    $volumes = gwmi Win32_Volume
    foreach($volume in $volumes){
    $match=($volume.name).TrimEnd("\")
    $counter=gwmi Win32_PerfFormattedData_PerfDisk_LogicalDisk |where{$_.name -eq $match}
    $Object = New-Object PSObject
    $Object | add-member Noteproperty name $volume.name
    $Object | add-member Noteproperty label $volume.label
    $Object | add-member Noteproperty AvgDiskQueueLength $counter.AvgDiskQueueLength
    $output += $Object
    $output
    I hope this helps.

  • Wae512 disk replacement

    Can somebody tell me what is the procedure of replacing a faulty disk on WAE512?
    As WAE512 does not support hot swap functionality, so I think this should be done:
    Physically power off the device
    take out faulty disk
    insert new disk
    power on the device
    Could somebody please confirm this? I did not find the exact replacement procedure for wae512 on cisco.com. Doc talks about wae612, but not wae512.

    This document does discuss the WAE 512. And yes you are correct you will need to power down the device.

  • Replacement procedure

    Hi all,
    I am new to Apple. What is the normal replacement procedure for a Apple laptop?
    The call centre told me that I will have to go to the Apple Service Store first to get the Technician to proof the faulty part. And then I will get my replacement MBP. Is that right?

    mine had the right speaker issue, the cpu whine and the TmOP hardware error...called Apple...waited 2 weeks...heard nothing...called back and explained everything ...Tier 2 product specialist offered me a repair or replacement...I took the replacement and shipped it out this AM.

    It seems like I just missed the interval for the hard disk replacement program. I purchased in March 2009 a 24 inch Intel iMac . How much does it cost to have apple support at an Apple Store replace a hard drive?

    My hard drive continually has the floating beach ball and will take massive time to fulfill a request. And then will not boot up...so then I have to do a restore and rebuild hard drive from a past saved time machine version. Works for a little bit...then the floating beachball comes more and more...until it will not boot up again. So then I restore from a previous time machine saved version....and again it works for a day or so ... until it happens again. Now it's happening faster and faster...so I think my hard drive is dying.

  • Hard Disk Replacement for Toshiba Portege R500-S5006X

    I have a Toshiba Portege R500-S5006X which is out of warranty. I would like to replace the hard disk. What hard disk should I purchase? What is the maximum capacity (size in GB), maximum RPM speed and size in inches I can use in this laptop? Will a SATA-2 hard disk work in this laptop? Any other information I need to know about the hard disk replacment? I would be happy to get an answer from an official Toshiba technician.
    Thanks,
              dandanl

    I don't know if the Toshiba people who post here are technicians, I suspect not, so you might be waiting for a while if that's the only person you would accept information from...
    At any rate, the standard drive in that computer looks like it is a SATA 2.5" 9.5mm thick.
    The following is a spec page for one of the stock drive options (they used a couple different drives, but pretty much equivalent)
    http://storage.toshiba.com/storagesolutions/archived-models/MK1646GSX
    As far as something of a larger capacity working, it should be fine, just keep in mind that a physically larger drive might not fit, so keep the height to 9.5mm

    Hello, your best bet would be to clone your drive to an external drive, which will be bootable.

    Hi,
    Unfortunately, the available information is not enough to have a clear view of the occurred behavior. Base on my experience, it may cause by some of one resource abnormal
    failure, I suggest that please schedule a down time to run “Repair Active Directory object” in “Simulate Failue of this resource” status. And the operation “Repair Active Directory Object” will force to update the object’s attributes.

    It doesn't matter that the damage doesn't appear to be related to the problem you're having. Once the phone is damaged, the warranty is void.

  • Query in SAN disk replacement

    hi
    i have a query with disk replacement in SAN
    i know disk replacement in sun server .like if my disk is failed. i will collect the logs,sun explorer and so on and case log to sun
    suppose i am using a San disk for my filesystem ..if the disk is failed ...
    to whom i need to case log and what are the logs to be collected so on... ..i think in this case we cannot case log to sun becoz SAN doesn't belong to sun
    can u please tell me the procedure for this..
    Thanks in Advance.......

    if you have oracle support for the SAN, or previously had Sun support for it, then you can log a call through the My Oracle Support portal (MOS) which is located at support.oracle.com
    Create an SR for Hardware and you'll be assigned an engineer who can tell you which logs he needs.

  • Procedure for Reinstalling Aperture

    Anytime I take the focus off of Aperture it unexpectedly shuts down. I submitted a bug report over two months ago, but no solution has come forth from Apple. I am ready to reinstall the product. It came pre-installed, but I do have the installation disk and serial number. What is the proper procedure for reinstalling this software to avoid problems with the connection to my current image vault, etc.?

    Re-installing isn't likely to do anything.
    A better bet would be to delete com.apple.aperture.plist from ~/Library/Preferences (this will delete all your settings in the preferences window) and the Aperture folder from ~/Library/Application Support which will delete all your presets, added keywords, edited keyboard shortcuts, auto-fill lists, metadata views, metadata presets and adjustment presets.
    It's probably worth backing up these files, so that you can replace them if this doesn't solve anything.
