Disk space alert

My lion server (mountail lion 10.8.2 with update as of Oct 1) is giving me a low disk space alert.  Something like 694 mb left... when a simple get info on the drive indicates 174 GB free.  What is going on? Any ideas?

Obviously the iPhoto GB size is not correct. Not sure what to do about that. I would definitely delete iPhoto's preference file. Close iPhoto. Go to your Home folder (YourUserName)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iphoto.plist
Drag this plist file into the trash. Reopen iPhoto. See if the size has reverted to normal.
What format is the original footage in iPhoto? Most camera video clips are mpeg, and even if you get them into iMovie, they probably will not play correctly. Mine lose audio.
However, when you import the videos into iMovie, you are probably going from compressed to uncompressed footage, thus increasing the size. See this for a bit more info:http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9017510&#9017510
Have you tried using MPEG Streamclip to convert it before importing into iMovie? http://www.squared5.com/
You also need Apple's QuickTime MPEG2 Playback Component ($20) for this to work properly.http://store.apple.com/us/product/D2187Z/A
For use in iMovie 6, export the clips to DV. Do them one at a time to isolate any problems with the original clips. Save each one to the desktop. Then, import them into your iMovie. Save each as you go.
If you get them all converted properly, and they import ok into iMovie, you can delete the originals from iPhoto and see if doing so corrects the size issue in iPhoto.
Post back if this does not help and you are still having problems.

The below code should work to get all servers that have alert of logical disk free space is low in specific period:

  • Tempro v2 - changing threshold for disk space alert

    Hello,
I have downloaded and installed Tempro v2 on a Satellite A200. It is running fine.
However, tempro has a problem that was present on the version 1.x .
The low disk space alert is set to trigger, way, way too early at 25% disk space left on any partition. On a modern disk this is around 15GB. This is way , way too early to be told of a problem. I have swiched off this alert - which I don't want to do. There seems to be no way (that I can find) to set this alert to trigger at a more sensible value - say 10% disk space left or a given amount of disk space left - say 2GB.
Is there a fix for this or have I missed how to set this value as I don't want to run without knowing I am running low on disk space? Getting this alert at 25% is irritating.
    Thanks
    Clive

    Hi
I dont think that you could change this value or settings
Tempro sends the notifications about the status of the whole HDD and therefore you have received this message.
Ive got this tool on my notebook too but didnt find any settings which would help to disable the notification about single partitions on the HDD

we have installed SCOM 2012 newly , after that we have imported Windows Operating system MP's. However customization(Override) of alerts, everything is working fine except not receiving low

Is there any particular reason why we are not receiving low disk space alerts?

    Hi,
Did you reach the threashold both for free % and free Mb? Both needs to be reached before you will get an alert.

  • How to setup DISK SPACE alert on OEM 10g Grid Control...

    Gurus,
I am trying to setup DISK SPACE notification / alert thru OEM 10g Grid Control, but so far no luck.
Can someone help/guide me on how to achieve this?
    Please advice.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Kartik

Those two links don't say anything about "DISK SPACE ALERT" I already know how to setup notification. I suppose you are talking about Filesystem Space Available (%)
If you need to setup an alert (Notification) then i suppose you need to setup an notification rule.
Yes, these notes do not have the key word "DISK SPACE ALERT" you are looking for, but if you go through the first note CLEARLY and COMPLETELY, you should find your answer.
And he has given an example for Filesystem space available in this note, which is what you are looking for.(I think so)
Say for Disk Space, you create a notification rule for target hosts and have metric "Filesystem Space Available (%)" defined in that rule.
If you aren't talking about notifications and just want to setup an filesystem space available metic, then follow this note:

  • Aperture: "Insufficient Disk Space" alert with 370 GB Free

    Hello,
Since I use aperture on Mountain Lion, it's unpossible to import big folders anymore.
The folders named "2012" is on my network and has 7 400 files (560 GB). I import it with option "In Their Current Location", so, it's no copy nor move. After checking, computer says : Insufficient Disk Space. Need 100 GB more". But HD is 370 GB free and pictures aren't copied/moved to my HD !!!
With snow leopard, I don't have this prob, but Aperture update are no more available for SL.
I work on a IMac with 4GB RAM and HD 500 GB with a Mac Server of 15 TB.
    Any suggestion ?

Aperture 3.4.3 on Mountain Lion 10.8.2

    Ernie,
    1) Aperture library is on the internal HD with 370 GB Free. FS is Mac OS Extended (Journaled). The linked picture stays on a Mac Network fileserver with afolder per year. I make test with folder 2011 and folder 2012
    2) With LR, I don't import library from aperture but I import picture from folder 2012. And it's fine. LR library stays on the same HD/same partition than Aperture one.
    3) If I remove big TIFF file (273 MB) from 2012, it's OK.
    4) If I try to import 100 big TIFF File it's NOK : "Insuffisant disk space..."
    5) If I try to import 10 big TIFF File it's OK to import but zoom 1:1 gives a little picture.

  • Logical Disk Space Results - Convert to GBytes

    Hi there
I'm using my own logical disk space alerts that's not part of the built-in two-state monitor. The only problem I'm facing at the moment is that within the alert description, I need to get the attribute that shows Mbytes converted/changed to Gbytes.
The way I understand is that I would be able to do this via the Attribute wizard, over a WMI query.
Once I have my query working, I can then edit my monitor description and add in this new attribute which then insert the results into my description - if this all makes sens.
    So.
    My issue:
I need this query: SELECT Size FROM Win32_LogicalDisk WHERE DeviceID ='$Target/Property[Type="Windows!Microsoft.Windows.LogicalDevice"]/DeviceID$'
To divide the result by 1024/1024/1024 (Three times) in order to get the logical disk size in GBytes.
A TB drive returning in MB's in 3AM in the morning is a little tough to read :-) - So showing in Gbytes will be a lot simpler for the monitoring team.
    Thanks!

    Hi guys
Thanks for all of the replies.
I can get it working as a rule. The big challenge for me is to get that GBytes result into my alert description.
An example of my alert description would be:
    10GB of 100GB Free
    Instead of
    10240MB of 102400MB Free
This should be displayed within my e-mail/sms notification once the monitor is triggered.
So getting the performance rule to work with VBScript is fine, but getting that rule result into an alert description is my issue.
    Thanks again
Alert description is a direct correlation to the data evaluated during runtime. If your WMI query returns 1, the alert description will display 1. Without using a script and performing calculations for your property bags, you could use the System.Computation
example from bobgreen. The only drawback to this is, your monitoring thresholds will need to be updated to reflect the result of this computation.

  • Alert on Low disk space

    Hi  All
I have created an alert of WMI event in sql server  which send mail if disk space on D drive is less than 10GB
    Query :
    SELECT * from __InstanceModificationEvent
    WITHIN 60
    WHERE
    TargetInstance ISA 'CIM_LogicalDisk'
    AND
    TargetInstance.FreeSpace < 10000000000
    AND
    TargetInstance.DeviceID = 'D:'
when I enable this alert It sends alert for low disk space
but some time it does'nt send alerts. I am not sure when this __InstanceModificationEvent   occure
and is there any another way to alert low disk space in my mailbox

  • UCCX 7 - Change alert threshold for disk space

We record every call into our UCCX 7 platform which makes my backups quite large. This causes an alert every night when the backups run from CRSAdmin stating that the server is running low on disk space and needs at least 40 GB free for B&R to run.
Is there a way to adjust this threshold?
    Thanks

Pablo, thanks for the reply! I checked the event viewer on the UCCX servers and they are clean. This is not a Windows alert. This alert is coming from CRSAdministrator and is routed to the email address I have configured in the email subsystem (Appadmin / Subsystems / email.)
The server is not actually getting low on disk space when this alert is generated, it is simply going below the 40 GB free threshold that is built somewhere in the UCCX application. This is what the actual email looks like:
    From CRSAdministrator@AUS-SVR-ICD-01
WARNING: CRS server AUS-SVR-ICD-01(172.21.X.X) is running low in free disk space
    **DO-NOT-REPLY-TO-THIS-EMAIL**
CRS required that you have at least 43377659904 bytes available in drive C:, otherwise B&R will fail in operating. Please free up some disk space if required.
    -Cisco Customer Response Application Administration.
So maybe the solution is remove the email address I have configured in the email subsystem for alerting and set up a syslog server instead for alarms?

  • Monitor disk space using alerts

I need to receive an email when a disk space on a given drive (which has SQL DB files) falls below 3 GB:
    - I need to use alerts (I don't want to use a SQL job to run some SP every x mins).
    - SQL Server performance condition alert cannot be used, because SQL cannot access non-SQL performance counters
    - if you use WMI event alert, please provide a query
    - registry cannot be modified (I know what you were thinking)
Seems like a rather common DBA need, and I can't find a solution.  Thanks in advance.

Since starting with FCP X, there has been tons of issues, now that the product actually works with the exception above, makes it impossible to share the production.  Has Apple fixed this problem.  is there a knowledge base article on this?
On another note, One reason I have not purchased support on FCP X is because you sold a product that never worked for almost an entire year or more.   Now I can finally finish my project,  I cannot share it.....Really.  This has to be fixed now, I am loosing money as I typed this.

Just curious, why would repairing permissions, rebooting ( rebooted 2 times already today) or creating a new user possibly fix this.
I cannot create a new user, that is way too much work.  I will repair permissions again,  I repaired permissions just a few days ago. Then I will reboot, login and turn off App Nap and rerun the Share DVD.
There must be something seriously wrong with the OS if your are suggesting creating another user.   WOW!
