Disk suite 4.2.1 Bug

Ok
Looks like I found a bug in Disk Suite 4.2. I am not sure with the other versions. So here is my finding. If I have any meta device either mirrored or raid or stripe. While my metadevice is mounted I can create a soft partation on top of it. Once i am able to create soft partation i can create a new filesystem. The intreasting thing is Disksuite never warn you about the metadevice is already in use or mounted. So it means i can destroy any mounted filesyetm. This looks like a bug to me. I am wondering if any one reported it before or not.

I have a similiar problem.  The centre control button and the volume controls just stopped working. Can't answer calls or skip tracks when playing iPod.  The controls on the iPhone itself still work fine with the earbuds connected.  Seem to just happen overnight.  Bought a brand new set of Earbuds, suspecting it was the buds but exactly the same results.  Non repsonsive controls.  Very disappointing.
Unlike you, the mic built in to the phone does not seem live with the buds plugged in to the iPhone.
Have you found a solution ?  Any help would be appreciated.  My iPhone 4 is just 6 months old.

Your snippet doesn't show anything wrong, so I can't understand why you're asking about recovery. Are you talking about fixing something or are you thinking of some failure scenario that hasn't happened yet? You also don't show any output as to what we're looking at. I'm assuming from your subject that /var and /usr are mounted on d30 and d40, but you might want to confirm that.
Also the output suggests that you've started setting up mirrors, but haven't done so. All the data is on c1t0 and nothing has been copied to c1t1 yet.
There's no redundant data shown here. So any failure in c1t0 will be fatal and unrecoverable from a SVM standpoint. You'd need to add the second half of the mirrors.

  • Disk suite shows wrong  devices

I have built a number of meta devices using onlide disk suite all worked fine . Had to do a recovery of the operating system to restore root and var partitions from tape . In doing so had to rebuild path-to-inst.
there is now a mis match between the information held by the OS and that held in the meta databases . Iit all works fine but metastat displays the wrong disk names .
does anyone have any idea how I can update meta db without having to rebuild the entire disk suite config

I think you'll simply need to remove the metadb and recreate - see this article for a similar situation

  • Disk suite question

    Hi,
I'm a newbiee regarding disk suite, and I am trying to mirror a 36GB drive using this application. This drive was already loaded with data and partitioned in different ways. My question is this: can I still use disk suite to mirror this disk without loosing any of the data already loaded on the disk, or should I better set up a manual mirror.
Any comments and suggestions will be greatly welcomed.
    Regards,
    C.

    Hi
The short answer is yes to the first part of your question. Not quite sure what you mean by setting up a manual mirror ( something to do with command line or GUI perhaps ? )
To be on the safe side, create a set of one way mirrors on the 36Gb disc partitions ie
    metainit d30 -m d31
where d30 is your metadevice and d31 is a metamirror consisting of a partition of your disc containing the data.
Then on a new disc, create a second mirror and attach this to d30. This way you can be sure you
you don't wipe out your data with a mirror of a blank disc.
If in any doubt back everything up before you carry out disksuire operations.

  • "no disk" error - LV 8.20 bug?

I came accross an interesting problem with LV today (LV 8.20, Professional Development system, Win XP Pro)
I opened a .vi directly from CD by double clicking the file in Windows explorer while LV 8.20 was showing its start screen. [I don't think it's relevant but the file was "Clear Specific Error.vi" from the LV Intermediate I course CD.]
I Quit LV and removed the CD
Attempts to restart LabVIEW gave an error box titled "LabVIEW.exe", and containing the text "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive E", with buttons "Cancel", "Try Again" and "Continue". Pressing any of the buttons simply caused the error box to re-appear. [My CD maps to drive E:] The only way to get LV running was to put a CD (any CD) into the drive and "Try again". This allowed LV to start.
On the start screen I selected the E:\.....vi from the recent files list. As the CD I had inserted was not the CD I had read the .vi from, I got the expected file does not exist message with an OK button. After pressing OK, the E:\...vi was removed from the recent files list, and a subsequent start of LV without the CD in the drive worked.
Has anyone else experienced the same or similar problem?
Whilst I can now fix/avoid this problem again for CD's, there remains the possibility of having loaded a .vi over a network share, and having that network share missing or having moved server on a subsequent run of LV, or loading from a stick which I then leave at home, rendering LV unstartable.
Is is possible to remove a file from the recent files list by using regedit or a text editor? In the state I described LV won't start until it has the disk it's asking for and it may not always be possible to provide the disk/share it's asking for.

One thing to try is look in the Labview.ini file. This is where the lists of recently opened files and such are stored. You can try editing these lists to remove references to the now non-existant disk.  In terms of the problem itself, this sounds like another variation of a theme that has existed for a while. Basically, the issue is that LV tends to hold onto disks that it sees and won't let you eject or remove them. In additon, you will sometimes get the "Disk not Found" error when opening the Open File dialog box if you remove the disk any way.
Unfortunately I can't test your exact problem to verify it because I don't have access to a system runnign LV8.x right now, but if it is correct that a missing disk can keep LV from even launching, this would be a major bug. Can anybody verify?

  • Issues with CS6. Signing in, Rendering, Disk Cache, No response from Bug Report.

    Hi,
I submitted these issues some time ago to ae bugs <[email protected]> and did not hear back. I am a long time AE user and usually have a good Adobe experience, but CS6 does not work smoothly for me, and I have not found much help with my issues including emailing support and posting to the site. I find the current website not very effective for tech support.
    - Every time I open CS6 it asks me if I want to continue the Trial and I have to go through the steps to sign in. This is frustrating since I have paid for Creative Cloud and this slows me down.
    - In several projects I have had to turn off "Enable Disk Caching" or it renders text in the upper left corner, no matter where it is actually placed.
    - General slowness, especially using Trapcode Form 2.0. In those cases the playback head in the timeline will not update for many seconds. Also, dragging keyframes around gets very exaggerated. If I drag a keyframe a few frames it will move way off the timeline.
    - 3D text layer render times are so long as to be unusable. (I realize this could be related to my system, but still very disappointing for a Quad Core machine).
(I have an Nvidia GTE 120 graphics card. 2.93 Quad Core, AE CS 11.0.1.12, OS 10.6.8)
    Any help/suggestions appreciated...
    Thanks,
    Paul

  • Using Disk suite to remove a mirroring

/ had been mirrored and now I need to back off the mirror.
    d98: Mirror
    Submirror 1: d9
    Submirror 2: d8
    d9: Submirror of d98
    Device: c0t1d0s0
    d8: Submirror of d98
    Device: c0t0d0s0
I metadetached one of the submirrors (d8) from the mirror, then did a
metaroot with the argument of the disk device of the detached
    submirror
    (e.g. /dev/dsk/c0t1d0s0), then rebooted.
On reboot, I get (after the memory check) the message like "not
correct file system". Then the system mounts it as read only. The
vfstab is correct - that is the detached mirror device is the entry
    for /.
    # more /etc/vfstab
#device device mount FS fsck mount
    mount
#to mount to fsck point type pass at
    boot options
    /dev/dsk/c0t1d0s0 /dev/rdsk/c0t1d0s0 / ufs 1 no
As the system could not mount /, we decide to mount / into
    /dev/md/dsk/d98, modifying /etc/vfstab as follows:
    /dev/md/dsk/d98 /dev/md/rdsk/d98 / ufs 1 no
This way system works fine but DiskSuite Tool (Metadevice Editor)
displays mirror d98 using / but with status URGENT, concat/stripe d9
with status OK, c0t1d0s0 as the only stripe (#0) of d9.
Does anybody have an idea about how erase mirror d98 since it's not
    necessary anymore?
Any ideas are more than welcome.
    Thanks in advance,
    Bruno

Well a "metaclear -r d98" will delete the mirror and its submirrors completely based on the following conditions as per the metaclear man page:
-r Recursively deletes specified metadevices and hot
spare pools, but does not delete metadevices on which
    others depend.
So if d98 or d8 or d9 are still in use in some way - they shouldn't be deleted.
Use this command at your own risk.

  • Bug in the copy cluster roles wizard - CSV reparse points cannot have names with spaces

    Hi All,
I have identified a bug in the copy cluster roles wizard in 2012 R2, which is preventing me from migrating my clusters from 2008 R2 & 2012 to 2012 R2.
The bug surfaces when you attempt to copy a VM role from a 2008 R2 or 2012 cluster that has a CSV reparse point name that contains spaces as follows:
The role appears to copy across fine, but once you've migrated the CSV and brought it online followed by starting the VM, the VM configuration resource promptly fails along with the VM.
The issue can be spotted inside the copy cluster roles wizard, where it presents itself by removing all text after the first space in the name to read "C:\ClusterStorage\CSV" rather than "C:\ClusterStorage\CSV
    Test Disk 3" as follows:
The bug only appears for VMs on CSVs with a reparse point name containing spaces - all other scenarios succeed.
After searching through the registry on the new cluster, you can clearly see that the VM role hasn't been correctly copied.
It shows a value called SharedVolumeMappings with the data C:\ClusterStorage\CSV|<guid>|<integer>
Whereas it should show the data C:\ClusterStorage\CSV Test Disk 3|<guid>|<integer>
If you modify the data in the SharedVolumeMappings value in both
0.Cluster\Resources\<VM guid> and Cluster\Resources\<VM guid> keys, the VM will start and work correctly.
The problem for me is that I have many VMs on many different CSVs all with spaces in the names of the reparse point! Its not feasible for me to go through the registry for every copied VM on every node of the new cluster, as this would take a very long time
and would be prone to errors that could cause further problems.
Can anyone provide any help on this? A hotfix for the issue would be great, if anyone from Microsoft is reading :-)
My deadline to get the VMs migrated to the new cluster is the 21st February, so I would really like to have a solution to the problem before then if at all possible.
    Many thanks in advance,
    Tom

    Hi Subhasish,
Thanks for the reply, glad that its something that is reproducible!
Do you have any idea of timescale? Or is it likely that I will have to modify the registry as above to get this working?
If I am going to have to modify the registry, please can you let me know if the resolution I have tested above is safe and viable? Or are there other settings that I will need to change to make the cluster fully aware of the proper path to the CSVs for its
    VMs?
Also, is there a known procedure for renaming the reparse point whilst VMs are running on it? This would allow me to negate the issue before copying the roles to the new cluster :-)
    Thanks again,
    Tom

A good output that would give you a hint of a problem is iostat -En
This output reports anykind of errors to a particular disk since the last reboot. If you are seeing high error numbers, then you can move onto running a file system check - fsck - on the drive.
If you have anykind of RAID setup, check to see if any issues are being reported. Depending on what you are using to manage the RAID - Veritas Volume Manager or Solaris Disk Suite - they will most certainly tell you if there is an issue. A vxprint for Veritas and a metastat for DiskSuite will show you what you have setup and if there are any recognized disk issues.

  • Help needed: Disk space does not free up even after deleting files.

Background information for this problem: I have my iPhoto library on an external HD, and was importing files from that same drive into iPhoto, and began receiving messages that I was very low on disk space on my internal HD. From here, it seemed like iPhoto was using my boot drive for some kind of cache. Regardless of the actual reason, I began moving files from my internal HD to fix this problem temporarily (while I was importing).
At this point, I started fiddling with my files and found that no matter how many files I would delete from my HD, the available space in the finder would not free up. *At this point, I have less than 20GB on my HD, yet it says I have 1.23 GB available out of 108 GB.*
Here is what I have already tried to fix the problem, to no avail:
    a) Original user was using Filevault. I backed up all the files, created a new user without Filevault, and restored the files.
    b) Booted from CD and used Disk Utility to erase free space.
    c) Verified and fixed permissions
    d) Deleted all app and system caches (via CacheOut X)
    e) Fixed/Repaired all user/system preferences (via Preferential Treatment)
*Does anyone have any idea what's going on?*
    -

    Thanks for the suggestion.
I ran WhatSize and here is the result. Oddly, it says there is 40.2 GB used (in the top-left) which conflicts with the information directly below it: "Capacity 108 GB, Used 103GB, Available 4.27 GB". Not so helpful.
Disk Inventory X solved the problem, however. Much thanks! I wasted most of my weekend troubleshooting this sad issue. Anyway, Disk Inventory X revealed a bug where my external hard drive for photos was still appearing as a mounted volume, even though the HD was no longer connected. Freaky.
After moving it to the trash and deleting it, I've recovered the space.
Again, thanks! Contact me if you're curious about the details, as this might help you diagnose similar problems in the future.

  • USB3 disk not mounted after iMac sleep

I have a Samsung D3 USB3 external HDD connected to my late 2013 iMac 27". I have 'put hard disk to sleep when possible' unticked in power management preferences. After the iMac has been slept and then woken, sometimes the USB3 disk does not mount. When thsi happens, the device is not even visible in Disk utility and needs to be unplugged/replugged or powered off/on to be recognised again.
I have two of these same disks and both behave the same so it is not the individual unit that has a problem. Seems like either a firmware problem in the disk or some OS X bug.
Anyone any ideas on a solution or knwo of any way to force a USB device rescan from terminal.
    Thanks.
