Disk Use Settings under Itunes 7.0

Where is the slide bar to set how much is disk use versus music. And if they took it away how do you tell it to autofill only to a certain size and leave the rest as free space???
Jeff

The slide bar is still there, but it tends to get hidden. Scroll down or make the window larger and it will appear.

  • We have a new iPod  Classic and would like some help in choosing "Import Settings" (under Peferences) when loading the iPod from the Mac.  We want to be sure that we can maintain a constant sound level.  Used with Bose sound dock. OS 10.6.8 iTunes 10.6.1.

Using an iPod Classic on a Bose sound dock....when loading the iPod from the Mac, what  "Import Settings" (under iTune "Preferences"),  should be used to maintain a constant sound level when playing music?  Mac OS 10.6.8, iTunes 10.6.1.
There are many Import Settings available and it is somewhat confusing.  Any suggestions?

Go to iTunes>Preferences>Playback. Tick "Sound Check."

  • All music gone, transferred to 'other', can't enable disk use on iTunes

it seems like there are a lot of people with similar problems but nothing exact..here goes:
-doing research on my macbook and i get a popup from itunes saying that my ipod was disconnected improperly (i didn't touch it and i wasn't even messing around on itunes)
-ipod restarts and reconnects with itunes and i get another pop up saying that "itunes cannot read the contents of the ipod. go to ipod summery and preferences and restore.
-i would just restore it and reload all the music butttttt like an idiot..i dont keep my music in my itunes cause it takes up way too much space and i never used any external hard drive or anything to back my music up (again..idiot..i know)
-so i read though a ton of forums and posts and see that im not the only one that this has happened to and everyone is saying to put it in disc mode, go to removable disk, copy all the music back to my macbook, restore my ipod, and put all the music back on. i also read something about clicking on my ipod icon on my desktop and going under ipod controls and changing some names (i dont konw if that was jsut for windows or what) but i also dont have an option of ipod controls
-the problem with that is that i can put my ipod into disk mode but that does me no good because i can't enable disk use on itunes because literally..my only option when i plug in my ipod is to restore it. under devices on the left hand menu, it just says ipod..not ipod with a bunch of sub categories like music and playlists and stuff..just ipod.
-normally..i would just give up and restore it but when i go to the about section on my actual ipod, it says that i have 50GB of "other" so that means that stuff is definitely still on it.
    -so finally..my main question is:
is there ANY way to enable disk use on my iTunes without doing it through my iPod?..like i explained..when i plug my iPod in..that is not an option. and also..would i benefit from just bringing my laptop and ipod into an apple store and asking for help there or will that just be a waste of time?

The library on the iPod will have been damaged - hence the reason it appears empty, but the media files are still there taking up space and reported as "Other". Check out this post from Zevoneer for some iPod recovery options.

Some of the tools mentioned will require a working library, but I know from experience that you can use the manual recovey method when the library is missing or damaged. If you're struggling for space you probably need to go & buy an external drive before you start. Stick the iPod in disk mode. Hold Menu+Select > 6 seconds (resets iPod) followed immediately by hold Previous & Select > 6 seconds. You can now drag the contents of iPod_Control\Music to your new hard drive. You may need to reveal hidden files & folders. Once they are on your hard drive you can create a new empty library on the drive, then import the files you have reovered and consolidate the imported library so that the files are in a standard artist\album\## track structure rather that the iPod's obscured names.

  • ITunes 8.1 (Win) + 5G iPod: disk use mode now always on

After recently updating to iTunes 8.1.0.52 (Win XP Pro SP3), my 5th Gen. iPod always mounts in disk use mode no matter how I have set the "Enable Disk Use" prompt in iTunes.
At mount, I always see a new drive letter assignment with the default iPod disk folders (Calendar, Contacts, Notes) visible and writable. The normally hidden iPod_Control folder also is visible on my system due to my OS settings. I have not tested its writability.
This drive assignment is visible only during the initial iPod sync, after which it disappears.
It does not reappear on subsequent syncs within a given "mounted session," but does reappear if I disconnect the iPod (always manually, regardless of disk use setting) and then reattach the dock adapter cable.
Always, the drive assignment persists only so long as the sync is active.
The iPod itself is at software version 1.3, and has been since that version was launched in 2008(?).
Naturally, I suspect a software problem in iTunes 8.1.
The ability to mount an unauthorized drive can potentially give rise to serious security issues, especially when there appears to exist no option NOT to mount the drive. Thus, I mention it here for the record.

Hey there, I'm having the exact same problem! Very annoying - have you found a solution by any chance?
I've restored my ipod and reset everything I can but since I updated the software continuous mode is kaput......Cheers

  • Where is "Reserve space for disk use" in iTunes? Docs are out of date

    Hello,
Where did "Resereve space for disk use" go in iTunes? I can't find it any more.
This is major problem because if I want to auto-fill my phone (I don't have time to constantly set up playlists) I then get constantly get errors that my phone is full and that I can't take photos. This is really frustrating.
If I got to iTunes Help, the documentation is wrong and out of date. I have iTunes 11.1.5 and if I go to Help -> iTunes Help and look at this section, it's completely wrong. See attached screenshot.
The whole iTunes UX has become a confusing mess, I hope you're looking for a new product manager for it.
    Thank you,
    Geoff

I am having the same issue. It even tells you that you can reserve space on your phone in the iTunes help, but I can not figure out how to open the Autofill Settings window in iTunes. Here is what it says in help of iTunes 12.0.1.26:
    Autofill settings
You can use Autofill to add songs to your iPod, iPhone, or iPad with a single click. You can set Autofill to select songs at random, or you can customize your settings.
You can select these options in the Autofill Settings window:
Other options are available at the bottom of the iTunes window when you're viewing music on your device:

Okay so when I try to download apps on my phone a totally different Apple ID that I've never used before popped up. I've already tried settings under apps/iTunes and signed into my own apple account. But even doing so my apple Id won't show up

    Try this:
Open the iTunes app, select the Music tab, then scroll all the way down to the bottom.  Here you can sign out of any current Apple ID and sign into a new one.  Good luck!
And just in case there is another Apple ID linked to your account you can check at http://appleid.apple.com.

  • ITunes 10 Enable disk use

So I've poked around a bit and tried searching for this, but it appears that I'm the only one having this issue as I can't find any topics on it... am I blind or has the "Enable Disk Use" been removed from iTunes 10? I went to enable this on my iPhone 4 the other day and couldn't find it anywhere. Looked under preferences, under the iPhone settings pages and even tried searching for it via the help menu which usually highlights the option somewhere.
Am I just missing this or did they remove this option in the latest revision? If they did, is there any decent way to enable this by other means?

I don't understand. I've used my iPod touch as a disk drive before, but after I installed the new iOS update the device stopped being discoverable as a folder from Windows Explorer. there's about 15 GB of files on it that I can't access. It's all useless space now, I can't even delete them from my iPod without restoring it...
the iPod touch has never had the option to Enable disk use.
However you thought you were doing it, it was not an option in iTunes unless you used some other application to hack iTunes.

  • I have a new Apple ID and have updated it in iTunes. However it still says the old ID in settings under iCloud. It will not let me change it and prompts me to enter my password for the old ID. I put in the old Password but it doesn't work.

I changed my Apple ID and it is not changing on my ipad. I did change it in iTunes but I can't change it or delete or update in settings under iCloud. It prompts for the password to the old id I put that in and it tells me that's not correct. I put the new password in and it tells me that's not correct. HELP!

To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.  If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, go to https//appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Tap edit next to the primary email account, tap Edit, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https//appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

When I go to the itunes options and click on edit, then preferences, ipod, & music, the Enable Disk Use is not in bold print, but it is checked. I don't know what has happened, and I'm not able to use it.

  • ITunes: Enabling Disk Use on iPod 3G with iTunes 8.2

    Hi:
I have an iPod nano 3G, and just upgraded to iTunes 8.2 from 7.7.
The Features Manual says that I should be able to "enable disk use" from the iPod Summary tab in iTunes under the devices section. The Enable Disk Use option is checked, but grayed-out. Was this method of disk access changed ?
How do I go about enabling my iPod for Disk Use?
    Thank you
    DaleB

Are you managing your iPod manually, in other words is "Manually manage music and videos" enabled in the Summary tab? If it is then disk use is already enabled by default which is why it would be checked and greyed out.

    Hello Sophie59
You should be able to see two different tabs when setting up the email if you go to Other > Add Mail Account. Once you enter in the email address and password, you should be at the next screen to provide more details about the email as far as incoming and outgoing servers and at the top there will be a blue section to add it in as a POP or IMAP email account.
