Disk Utility: after creating the .DMG (compressed image) When "scan image for restore" finishes it displays "unable to scan (internal error)". Since the process was scanning for about 1 hr is this a fake warning?

External 500GB drive is partitioned with 400GB for Mac OS extended (journalling) and 2nd partition formatted today as "ExFAT".
Yesterday I tried to create a disk image of my HD to no avail - this was compressed on a FAT partition. I got a warning after running the <scan image for restore> saying "unable to scan (internal error)"
I rang Apple support who suggested formatting a partition as MAC OS extended (journalling) and choose to save the image as "read/write'. The image process stopped writing at about 200GB and then the file size jumped to 499GB (ie the size of the HD). But the process did nothing for about an hour so I foce quit disk utility (as suggested by apple support)
My current attempt was to format the external drive again; this time with a 400GB Mac OS extended (journal) format; plus a 100GB ExFAT format partition. The new image was created after about 2.5hrs with a compressed size of 149GB. However, after running the "scan image for restore" facility I got the warning message "unable to scan filename " (internal error). The process was scanning the image file according to the progress bar - this took about hour - thus the warning is a puzzle.
If anyone can say more about this error I would really appreciate knowing tips for using disk utility. The screen grab is below.

fyi: I thought that I would use my external Buffalo for two purposes; namely the smaller ExFAT partition for copying stuff to my win7 netbook. The larger partition was to be used as my imac image of SL. So this was my first attempt at using disk utility - the idea being to hold an image backup at another location. Plus I now have the Lion thumbdrive ready to upgrade from SL and so being cautious wanted to have a SL image backup
Anyway I followed the apple instructions using my mac 10.6.3 install DVD but it would appear from other discussions that <unable to scan (internal error)> is not unique to me.
I’ll get back to apple telephone support for further advice.
I would though be grateful for an “idiots’ guide to making an image backup of my internal HD that runs SL 10.6.8
eg should I have just one partition on the external USB drive? format it as Mac OS extended? create the image as compressed or read/write? Basically I’ll do whatever will work!!

I use Mc Janitor nightly to clear some of the 'stuff" that accumulates with files, etc. but run Disk Utility after downloads and such about once a month. I have done this since 2003 when I had my first e-mac. Only recently have "warnings " appear on the list of repair or varify disk...that says certain items can not be repaired. The techs at the Apple store said to just ignore them, which I have been doing. But the last download, which was a rather large new Security download, came up with something new, both on my computer and my husband's lap top when he downloaded it. These are letters that appear and say ACL found but not expected on Applications/Utilities, on "Applications" and on "Library."
We are just curious about what ACL is (or are) and what it means to have them in our systems.
It does say that the disk is verified when I run that. Everything seems to be working normally.

Disk Util wont read my .dmg backup

Because I changed my hard drive, I thought it was wise to partition the new one with Disk Utility so it would have two partitions so I could just make a .dmg from the Mac OS parition and the Bootcamp partition over to the new ones.
While it worked for the Mac OS one, it didnt for the Bootcamp one and I couldnt boot Windows XP anymore.
When I asked the Bootcamp Assistant to setup my system it said it wasn't happy with my partitions and need a GUID disk.
Since mine was in AFM, I had to erase everything on it and put it in GUID with a single partition.
Now, before doing this I had Disk Utility erase the second partition I did on the new drive, make the Mac OS partition the whole disk and used Disk Utility to make a .dmg backup of the drive.
Since I formatted in GUID with a single partition, Disk Utility decided it doesn't like my .dmg backup anymore.
I reinstalled OS X Leopard from scratch and tried to mount it but it says no valid filesystem inside.
I tried to raw copy it with dd in terminal on a USB disk but same thing, it won't mount the drive.
When I use the restore function in Disk Utility, it says error 254 cannot validate filesystem.
I used it once successfully to check it before erasing the master drive and now the backup won't work anymore.
I am very upset, this 90 gigs backup contains all my photos, music and files.

I had a 320Gb drive with OS X on one partition and XP on another.
I bought a 500Gb drive, I thought I could do the same 2 partitions and just copy over the OS X and XP partitions to have everything work like before.
But it didnt work so now I have a .dmg containing my original OS X partition that I would like to copy over to the new HDD but it wont work as the dmg has not filesystem in it according to Disk Utility and gives an error 254 when I try to use it with the restore function.
However, I used this very same dmg file once yesterday to restore the drive. It was fine except that the new drive wasnt set to be a GUID drive so it would only boot so far but won't get into Leopard, hanging one line before launching the login app (I have the boot sequence set as verbose so I could see where it hung).
And now the same dmg file isn't working anymore on the GUID formatted 500Gb drive.

Edit: Already ran Disk Utility. Also reinstalled a fresh OS on top of the cloned OS and it seemed to remedy the problem. Then, cloned to next machine in the row of the lab. Same problem.

OK, by that I assume that you used Disk Utility to repair the subject disk and it reported "The volume (name) appears to be OK" in green.

If so, the Thunderbolt connection begins to look suspicious.
Reinstalling OS X subsequent to the "clone" operation may be an acceptable workaround but you should not have had the I/O errors you describe, nor should the login times (subsequent to the initial login, that is) be unacceptably long. It calls into question the integrity of all the information that was transferrred.

You likely need to reformat the drive which will destroy all data and you need a backup to restore it. If no backup is present then a data retrieval service can be more expensive than DiskWarrior. There is software that can rescue the data but I can not vouch for it's effectiveness as I have always maintained backups. .

Thanks a lot i followed the instructions for safe mode (i found out that i was pressing the C button after restarting) i did whats written there but the repair couldn't be performed so in addition i needed to re-formate the HD so i erased the volume and then repaired the disk--> quite disk utilities --> start the installation from the installation DVD.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased. Some glitch occured and you have to restore/erse the iPod. Y will have to restore from an existing backup if y ohave one.

ACS 5 : 24463 Internal error in the ACS Active Directory

I am configuring ACS 5.
I have group in AD created. There is 2 users in the group. Usera are from different OUs.
One user get authenticated.
The other failing to get trough authentication with following error:
24463 Internal error in the ACS Active Directory
Could anybody help?
P.S. I have something to add.
It works for some users and does not for others. I have created new user and it worked.
So it looks it is sometjing in user properties of groups it belongs to.

We need to harden our environment according CIS standards. After applying those policies I am encountering following issue:
Unix/Linux agents managed by the interal Unix/Linux resource (Management Servers domain joined) pool turn grey with the
WS-Management Certificate Health in critical state. Some return healthy after a while... to fail again after a while.
When I resign the certificate through Discovery Wizard the agent turns healthy again... to return to a grey state again after a while.

When I re-execute the command right afterwards... it succeeds! :-/ When I run the command 10 minutes afterwards, it fails again the
first time it is executed.
My guess the possibility it is related to above issue is likely.
I'm not having this issue on the gateway servers (not domain joined) where the policies are not applied.
P.s. Unfortunately I installed security and critical updates a few hours before applying the gpo so it could well be related to that
also.
Before I try to revert the changes made by the gpo... can anyone verify if a setting in the gpo can cause this issue?
Relevant part (I think) of the gpo below. Or does anyone know what this might be caused by or how to further troubleshoot this?

I've managed to pinpoint the issue to the following gpo setting:
System cryptography: Use FIPS 140 compliant cryptographic algorithms, including encryption, hashing and signing algorithms
Description: For the Schannel Security Service Provider (SSP), this security setting disables the weaker Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocols and supports only the Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocols as a client and as a server (if applicable). If this
setting is enabled, Transport Layer Security/Secure Sockets Layer (TLS/SSL) Security Provider uses only the FIPS 140 approved cryptographic algorithms: 3DES and AES for encryption, RSA or ECC public key cryptography for the TLS key exchange and authentication,
and only the Secure Hashing Algorithm (SHA1, SHA256, SHA384, and SHA512) for the TLS hashing requirements.
Disabled the setting in a new gpo and everything returned to normal.

I upgraded to Maverick OS X 10.9.5, numbers spreadsheet is saved. Upon re-opening, it appears to be frozen, a warning "file is invalid as index.xml file is missing". I checked, and the file is not "locked". This appears to occur only with using the new numbers app. When I open previous spreadsheets from old iWorks, no such problem occurs.
How did you resolve your problem?
Would appreciate any help here.

If you have to restore, yes everything will be erased from your iPhone. If you have a backup, you can put that backup after the restore.
