Disk Utility asked me to Format my MBP!! What to do and HOW!
Hi guys,
I've recently noticed that my Mac takes a bit of time to start anymore, I looked around and I saw that checking my Hard Disk should help by "Verifying" the disk and "Repairing" it if needed.
I did it today and I was asked to Repair the disk through Recovery mode!
When I did the "Verify" then "Repair" through Reover mode (Command + R) I've been asked to format my hard disk and reinstall OS X as Disk Utility can't repair the drive!!
I am using MacBook Pro, Mid 2009 and running Mountain Lion and have a Bootcamp partition...
What can I do and How to do it? I don't want to mess it up and ruin my MBP!
Thank you so much,
Sul.
Formatting your OS X volume will not affect your Boot Camp volume. You should make a backup of your OS X volume, if you can.
Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

Disk Utility "frozen" trying to format external drive
some help please...
I've got a 120gb external USB/NDAS drive that was previously formatted in NFTS on a Windows XP machine. Using Disk Utility on my new MacBook, I attempted to erase it and reformat it using the "MS-DOS" option in Disk Utility (so I can use it on both OSes). I got the spinning beach ball for several hours, at which point I forced-quit Disk Utility. The drive is now unseen by Windows, and when I plug it into the MacBook, it tells me it can't be mounted, so I choose initialize. When I attempt to either erase or partition the drive for MS-DOS, I get the beachball. I left it overnight to see if it was just taking a while, and no difference.
What next? Should I try formatting it for Mac and then reformatting MS-DOS/FAT32 and see if that works?
Thanks in advance...I had a similar problem with an older drive, eventually I did get it formatted using my iBook, but it wasn't worth it as the drive failed completely several months later (at the most inconvenient time, of course). If the drive is older than 3 years it might be on its last legs and you would be better off to buy a new drive anyway.

After 10.5.4 upgrade Disk Utility does not longer format UBS FlashDrive to
After 10.5.4 upgrade Disk Utility does no longer format disk to FAT32 only FAT16.
I have use 2 different Mac to format my USB Drive and I still get FAT16 there is no drop down selection for FAT16 or FAT32. Both Mac are Intel and running the latest OSX 10.5.4. Actually, this happen after I upgraded to 10.5.4.
just wondering is anyone out there having the same issue, if someone know a way to fix this will be greatly appreciated.
P.S. The USB is a Lexar (it never gave me any trouble). In that case, you're looking at doing an Archive & Install installation. See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1545?viewlocale=en_US for details.

My MacBook pro won't recognize hard drive I put in it. It boots only to a white screen unless I boot to my recovery USB. If I do that then I can select my USB and my external time machine drive in the disk utility, so no problems there. But what do you think it is? It won't recognize any hard drive I put in the machine, so might it be the sata cable?
Boot the Recvoery USB, use Disk Utility to select the internal drive makers namea and size on the left.
Now select erase and select the midde option and click erase, it will take a bit to complete but it's best for the drive.
Now select Partiton tab, click the big box and Options: GUID and then Format: OS X Extended journaled and click apply.
Quit and you should be able to install OS X now with your Apple ID and password.

Illustrator crashes at launch asking for PDF Format.aip. What I have to do?
In this case just uninstalling illustrator and reinstalling Ai will solve the issue.
We have observed on some user machine that due to some environmental issues 17.1 update could not overwrite few files.

I'm going to give my iMac (21" - late 2007) to my brother. So, I did a back-up on an external disk and now I want to format it and create his new profile. What to do and how? I have OS.x 10.7 (Lion). Thanks very much for your support and help.
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
There isn't a Late 2007 21-inch iMac. I think you are referring to a Mid 2007 20-inch iMac, right?
In that case, you can't give him your iMac with OS X Lion. OS X Lion is registered to your Apple ID, and he won't be able to reinstall Lion unless you give him your Apple ID.
The best you can do is to give him the Mac with Snow Leopard installed, if you have the DVD. Follow these steps:
1. Insert the DVD and hold the C key while your computer is starting.
2. Choose your language, and go to Utilities menu (on the menu bar) > Disk Utility.
3. Choose Macintosh HD in the sidebar, go to Erase tab and erase the disk.
4. Close Disk Utility and reinstall Mac OS X. When the installation finishes, hold the mouse or trackpad to eject the disc and turn off the computer.
This is the most recommended way to do it and avoid problems. Anyway, if you insist on giving him the iMac with Lion, you just have to start in OS X Recovery (holding Comman and R keys while your computer is starting), use Disk Utility to erase Macintosh HD as described above, and finally, reinstall Lion with your Apple ID -
When i try to update my apps from the app store some of the apps wont update and ask for an Apple ID that isn't mine. Whats the problem and how do i fix it? All im trying to do is update my apps and its asking for these random apple ID's.
The apps were purchased by another user with a different Apple ID. You will have to erase them and repurchase them using your Apple ID.

I'm trying to create a new Apple ID but when I was putting on my information, there's a box asking for an ITunes gift code. What's this and how can I get one?
You're not obligated to insert a gift code. But you can purchase gift codes on the Apple online store (gift cards or certificates) or Apple Retail store
Gift codes are pre paid cards so you can use credit on the iTunes Store to purchase content

how to put continuos (desired format) of dates in numbers spreadsheet and how to do it? please reply asap i need it..
This is the definition for "continuo" from Apple's dictionary:
continuo |kənˈtinyəˌwō | (also basso continuo) noun (pl. continuos) (in baroque music) an accompanying part that includes a bass line and harmonies, typically played on a keyboard instrument and with other instruments such as cello or bass viol.
Presumably you mean something else. Your chances of getting replies that can help you will improve with a clearly stated question.

That is your mail account (or one of them anyway) and you need to get it from your Exchange administrator.

I removed Creative Cloud but I still get pop-ups asking me to log in....why and how do I get rid of it?
Looks like you didn't uninstall; you just logged out. Go to the Windows Control Panel, Programs and Features (in Win7; may be different in your version of Windows). right click on each Adobe CC app you want to uninstall and select "uninstall". Then uninstall CC itself.

Cannot move inside the Fonts window using arrow keys?
I'm pretty sure there was a way to move around in the Fonts menu using the arrow keys. The selected Collection, Family or Typeface would turn from grey (not able to navigate) to the blue (able to navigate). Does this ring a bell to anyone else?
