Hi there!
I try to install the os x mavericks update on a Snow Leopard 10.6.4 Mac from the Apple page. A message told me there was an error on the disk so I tried to repair it with Disk Utility. It didn't work. It ask me to make an image copy, It doesn't work neither. I am not able to go back or forward from there.
There was a message coming up telling me "cannot allocate memory".
I wrongly supposed it was a external hard disk problem so I bought a 3TB hard disc to make an image disc copy but again it didn't work.
I try to use Disk Utility to repair or make an image copy of the Macintosh (running from my Mac or the Install DVD) but it cannot repair the hard drive or make a disk image. Depending on the options I choose messages like: "input/output error" or "cannot allocate memory".. keep coming up. I don't know what to do any longer.
Before going forward I want to save my all my data.
Can you help me please?

Step one is to erase and reformat the 3 TB HD you bought. Ensure that it's Mac OS Extended with the GUID option. Next, use something like Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! to put a bootable backup/clone onto the ext HD. Ensure that you can boot the machine with it. Boot into the backup/clone, launch Disk Utility and repair the int HD. If successful, update it to 10.6.8. Boot with the int HD and update the clone. Once that's finished, try upgrading either it or the clone to Mavericks.

With the Lion it is essentially unnecessary to resort to external driver disks. What's more, most of those disks are incompatible with the OS and should not be used. The system already carries a wide variety of printer description files (aka PPDs, which is what modern printing systems use as "drivers") for a lot of brands. And there was an HP printer update just two days ago.
Just checked in mine and did indeed find that the HP OfficeJet 6200 Series, with or without Fax, is covered with the latest update.
So just go thru the motions of creating a proper printer instance:
Make sure the Mac "sees" the printer on the network.
System Preferences / Print & Scan
Click on the + button on the left column
Select the appropriate type of printer, will use IP for the rest of this
Select HP Jetdirect - Socket, default for HP network printers
Type the IP address or look it up
Name the printer for easy identification on the print dialog
Let the Mac identify the printer model or manually choose the driver
Click Add.
Once the instance pops up in the list, can click on Options & Supplies for further config.

Your AppleCare TechTool disk doesn't work?

As many who purchased the last of the G5 iMacs knows, the TechTool Deluxe disk provided with AppleCare didn't work, i.e. you could not boot up your iMac with it.
I spoke to AppleCare about this two weeks ago, and they denied that version 3.0.4 was not the correct disk for OS 10.4.6.
However, they have now quietly admitted this, and offer a free download of a revised version 3.0.4 here:

from which you can burn your own disk.
A bit sneaky IMO to retain the old version number! But it could be that the disk will only work with YOUR iMac.

Its never been a very satisfactory aspect of the Applecare, I'm afraid. I've always operated on the principle that you ignore the software provided (it used to be Virex, which caused far more problems for people than it ever prevented or solved!)
The disks are almost always well "behind the the times". Usually fine for the previous model, but not for the one that people are actually buying at the time they usually shell out for Applecare. In my case I usually only bother about Applecare (if at all) at the time my 12 month original hardware warranty is running out. By this time the software that comes in the package will probably actually be "current" for my now 12 month old purchase! I've recently bought a package for my iMac ALS because of the power supply failures that seem a bit too common with them, but my other Macs aren't under cover.
You can usually get as good , or better, advice here than you get through the phone services IMHO anyway, so the phone support doesn't matter as far as I am concerned (though there are occasional exceptions to this)
As far as TTPro 4 goes, I personally like Diskwarrior for directory repair and iDefrag for defragging. All that this really leaves is the additional hardware diagnostics in TTPro, most of which you can achieve with the Apple Hardware Test anyway. If I was "in the market" for an "all purpose" suite these days (since the demise of Nortons) I'd probably go for Drive Genius rather than TTP.
My advice to any new Mac user, in fact, is to buy a good external Firewire Drive for backup purposes before you even think about the these third party utilities. Between this and Apple's own utilities (Disk Utility etc), you will actually be able to do just about anything that any of the third party makers offer, and quite a few other things too!

AirPort Disk doesn't work with LaCie Mini Hub & Hard Drive

I got my new La Cie Mini Hub and Hard Drive yesterday, backed up the PB and did a reinstall...no problems.
This morning, I hooked my LC into my AEBS went through the setup in AP Utility which saw the drive with no problems. But the AP Drive Utility doesn't see the drive. My AP firmware has been updated, and the software too. I even went through the setup in this posting:

I am dealing with the same issue, jeppeo. I have a 320 GB Seagate external HD (with both USB and Firewire). The Airport Disk Utility does not recognize the drive. It does, however, recognize my Kingston 1GB USB stick. Thus, I know the system works, it just doesn't seem to be working with the Seagate. It may be that the Seagate, and the LaCie you are using, are simply incompatible with the AEBSN. If that is the case, the only option might be to purchase a drive that is known to be compatible with the AEBSN, or any other drive and simply try plugging it in. I am considering buying a Western Digital drive (as many of their models seem to be compatible) and then testing it out. If it doesn't work, I will return it.

Install disk doesn't work with Windows Vista

I just bought a new HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw and the install disk isn't compatible with Windows Vista. Apparently there's no ful feature option for Windows Vista on an HP laptop. After several hours of work I downloaded several drivers and got the printer to print, but the scan function doesn't work that well without the HP software which hasn't been created for Windows Vista.

I am having a very similar problem but do not have an answer either. I am running an X61 Type 7676A12 with a Lenovo ACP50 port replicator FRU part number 40Y8160. I am running Windows XP Pro. The port replicator has never been very great and would not restore the external monitor picture properly when the laptop had been in sleep mode however it was serviceable if not optimal. After downloading and installing the October MS security updates the machine would get a BSOD when the port replicator was plugged in. Remove the replicator and reboot and it worked ok. Plug it in again and BSOD. I tried upgrading the drivers from 5.1.4a to 7.1.1.03Aug07 and then to 7.1.2. No go. Emailing Targus with the problem got no response. The port replicator is now relegated to my junk heap of useless rubbish.

It's probably that your Keychain password is not the same as your login password. If you configured your computer to log you in automatically, you may not have used your login password in so long you forgot it.
There is no way to retrieve the "login" Keychain password, but you can reset the Keychain from the Preferences menu: select it in the Keychain Access menu and select "Reset My Default Keychain". This will create a new, empty Keychain but the old one will be saved should you ever remember its password.
The result of this is that you will have to supply passwords for everything that requires it, since without your Keychain they will no longer automatically fill themselves. However, once you supply them and store them in your new Keychain, they will be remembered.

Recovery partition and Recovery disk doesn't work

I have HP Pavilion dv6000 Windows Vista Home Premium with Recovery Partition at drive D:\. Here is my problem. I want to use the System Recovery to put my PC to its default setting, I have use Recovery Manager, but System Recovery does not work. I have also use a recovery disk, but nothing works. Using the Recovery disk, while the recovery is in process formatting the windows partition, and the process reaches 33%, a windows error pop-out (Error: ox4001100200001005). I need help because my laptop is unstable and I cannot work.

I had viruses on my computer, so I cleaned it out and reloaded windows xp3. But now it's not recognizing my printer, hplaserjet 3200. The driver disk will not work also. I tried downloading it online. I'm getting zip files. Once i unzip it, it's giving me an error message. Help.

USB devices (pendrives, external Hard disk) doesn't work correctly

I have MacBook Pro mid 2010. Recently I update to Mountain Lion. Since that fact, the USB devices doesn't run. I connect the device (I tested whit 5 different pendrives with NTFS, exFAT and HFS), the system recognize it for a few seconds ant then remove it for a nom apparent reason. Someone knows anything about this?

Are you using a USB hub? If you are, try removing it.
I'd try a safe boot Mac OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? . Maybe you have some other software installed that is causing the problem.
Try a different USB port.
If none of that helps, I'd reinstall OSX over your current installation with the Combo updater OS X Mountain Lion Update v10.8.5 (Combo)
If that doesn't work, maybe it's a hardware problem.

Elements 11. Resize image tool doesn't work. Tried online chat with Adobe - no help.

I recently got a new computer (pc) and decided to download Elements 11 instead of the old version that was on my old computer. I've discovered that the image resizing tool doesn't work, although the other functions seem to be working fine.
I tried an online chat with Adobe. Their suggestion was to buy another photo service from them for $10./month !!

Illustrator Image Trace doesn't work with large images

Illustrator's Image Trace doesn't seem to work at all with large images. The attached image shows the following:
A) The original raster cropped tightly.
B) Converting the raster with default "Black and White Logo" settings. Results in 242 paths and 4792 anchors.
C) Adding a massive amount of white space and then converting the raster with default "Black and White Logo" settings. Results in 407 paths and 1620 anchors.
For whatever reason Illustrator can't seem to handle large images. This test shows it's not an issue with the image being too complex since all I've done is add white space and the file was saved without compression so there should be no noise.
This type of glitch started with CS6 with the new Image Trace tool. Is there a fix for this? Maybe setting Image Trace into legacy mode?

Firstly I think it is because the XML SQL Utility does not work with JDBC-ODBC driver.
So I try it again with Oracle driver.

Image lightbox doesn't work in Firefox 4.0.

Hello,
When viewing 'Larger images' on a website, the lightbox that usually highlights the image, giving it a blacked out background doesn't work any more.
The image simply doesn't appear, although the lightbox does?
Anyone else experiencing this? Is there a setting of some sort that I have to enable or an Add On that will solve this?

Vi.lib\Utility\config.llb doesn't work as expected in 6.1

I have to modify part of a LV project written in 6.1. I started of writing a patch/VI for the project in 7.1.1, tested it and it worked fine. Then I save it from 7.1.1 > 7.0 > 6.1 and the code doesn't work. I have attached the 6.1 and 7.1.1 code that simply modifies a config data file.
Run both the VI version on the attached data file (save copies of it beforehand as the VI overwites/modifies the .dat file) and you should see for e.g.
4.6.2.1 Name=Pass
Change to
4.6.2.1 Name="4.6.2.1 Extend Ground Cycle"
with 7.1.1
and no change with 6.1

The problem is at the very end. The 'Close Config Data.vi' changed between 6.1 and 7.0. The input 'Write Configuration File' on 7.0 and higher is default to True, any version before that was default to False. With this set to false, the file is not actually written.
So on 6.1, you need to connect a boolean constant or control set to True to this termianl to write the file.
