Disk Utility reports "resource busy" and can't create an disk image

HI,
Just succesfully updated to Mountain Lion on my MBA and iMac. No problems. A very smooth proces.
But, on my iMac the Disk Utility are not able to create new images at all! I'm not sure if this relates directly to the update, as
DU works fine on the MBA.
I have tried to create a simple disk image from a folder, sparse bundle disk images and sparse disk images - with and without encryption.
They al gave this output from DU: "Unable to create "MYDiskImage.sparsebundle." (Resource busy).
I understand from other postings on the web that others have experienced the same message from time to time, but have not seen a fix for it anywhere.
I can see the "disk iamge" in the DU window (left pane) but are not able to locate it with Finder or on the computer anywhere, but are even able to "repair the
disk image with DU, but then there is actually no disk image when trying to locate it. Very strange.
Any help?

Thanks for the suggestion. Somehow I managed to solve the issue (the question was posted in July), I  think I restarted the computer a couple of times, but it's interesting that you mention Drive Genius and Drive Pulse, as I also had that app running!
Maybe Drive Pulse was also turned of here in my process and helped to solve the issue.

    I suspect more than one job is running concurrently against the DB; otherwise not error would occur.
    Of course the batch process CAN be modified, but some PHB has decided to eliminate that option.
    The Oracle database is at the mercy of the application code.
    If the application code is poorly instrumented, then live with what exists or improved the code to facilitate isolating the bug.
    You could delay the start of one of the jobs & then hope the error no longer occurs.

    We are frequently getting ORA-00054: resource busy and acquire with NOWAIT specified error in production database for a application user group. Production database is oracle 10g R 10.2.0.5.0 on sun solaris. The app user group is telling that the code is not changed from many years. They wants this to be resolved on h.priority. The tables which are getting this error has clob fields. I rebuilded indexes in QA environment & they ran it again they are getting the same error.
    I asked to see select for update nowait clause's carefully. They said everything is fine. Please let me know any solution if any one is getting this kind of error. Thanks.

    Not necessarily application code but
    - Database version
    - patches
    - indexes
    - data volumes
    - number of clients
    etc, etc
    What led you to rebuild the indexes?
    As for suggested solutions, they completely depend on the specifics of your situation.
    Do you know that the SELECT FOR UPDATE is raising the ORA-00054?
    Something else has the relevant resource locked in a non-shareable way - you need to find out what.
    It sounds like the most likely candidate is another session that has issued a SELECT FOR UPDATE and locked some of the same row(s).
    It's good that you can reproduce on QA rather than just production.
    Maybe you can manually issue the failing SELECT FOR UPDATE statement but with WAIT rather than NOWAIT and see if that helps you figure out blockers, etc.
    Further analysis required at your end.

    You can try to find out which session is holding the lock ... and depending of the situation, kill the session that is holding the lock. Just kill a session as last case.

    It's somewhat hard to offer suggestions without understanding what the procedure is doing.
    Normally, an INSERT or an UPDATE will block indefinitely waiting to lock the row(s) in question. The error you are getting generally requires that you are doing an explicit SELECT ... FOR UPDATE NOWAIT or DDL. Doing DDL in an OLTP application is a bad idea, so you'd want to figure out what problem you're trying to solve and find a way to solve the problem without DDL. If you are doing an explicit SELECT ... FOR UPDATE NOWAIT, you'll need to understand why NOWAIT is being specified and figure out whether you should be handling the error. If someone added a SELECT ... FOR UPDATE NOWAIT because they don't want users to block waiting for access to a row, it may be perfectly reasonable to return this exception.

    Can not open JPEG files and can not create JPEG files from other software (For example from Solidworks).
    When I try to right click on a JPEG, a notice window appears written: "Windows Explorer has stopped working - Windows is
    checking for a solution to the problem" and then the notice box disapears, the desktop appears and I can continue working.
    From the other side - If I try to save as JPEG a screen of Solidworks (like a view of a part) the Solidworks falls but the JPEG
    is created (I can see its name in the directory I created it).
    I can open the JPEGS with the Paint software if I want but not with the Windows Photo Viewer.
    I have the feeling that the Windows Photo Viewer disapeared from my computer - just a feeling.

    Did Windows Photo Viewer option appear when you right click the JPEG file and select open with?

    Hopefully this is something simple I overlooked, but no matter which options I seem to choose, I can't seem to create a sparse bundle disk image to encrypt private documents.

    Have you tried using Disk Utility to Repair Permissions, first? That may solve your problem, so I would try it first.
    If that doesn't do it, go to Users/Library/Preferences and find the com.apple.DiskUtility.plist file and drag it to your Desktop. Then launch Disk Utility and try to create a .dmg file. If the problem is solved, then you can Trash the file on your Desktop.

  • I've lost my iCal calendars and can't create new ones

    I've used iCal flawlessly for a long time. Suddenly, though, I noticed that I lost all my indivdual calendars in iCal. I couldn't see any calendar postings in the main calendar until I trashed my pref file from the library and relaunched. Then I would see the individual events created under my "home" calendar, yet I would not see the "home" calendar listed as an option in the left-hand view of calendars. Plus, I now can't create new calendars.
    Anybody have any idea what's going on here?

    Is this correct: you had multiple calendars; they disappeared from the calendar pane and their events from the main pane; you deleted ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.ical.plist; you now have a single calendar (Home) but cannot make more; you can see the events in Home?
    Can you add events to Home?
    Can you see as many folders in ~/Library/Application Support/iCal/Sources/ as you used to have calendars?
    Double-click ~/Library/Application Support/iCal/nodes.plist. Click the black triangle beside the word Root. In the line "List Array ..." how many ordered objects are reported? Does this match your original calendar count?
    What have you added/changed/modified recently? Might it have involved any fonts?

  • Can't sync anything with my microsoft account and can't create a new one?

    I have recently done a software update to Windows 8.1 and now every time I try to access an app it prompts me to sign in to sync my data. I follow the screen prompts using my email address and password (the same as the one I have used to access this forum
    so my current working microsoft account) and it says a microsoft account with this email address already exists on this PC. 
    I get through to the validation code page section, the code is sent to my phone, I enter it, the cloud information page is displayed the switch to microsoft account option appears I click switch and it says an account already exists on this PC???
    If  I try to choose the alternative option of creating a new account with the same email address (my main email account) I have the same issue which is an account already exists. 
    I have lost data and can't sync any music tracks etc - hugely frustrating!
    What do I do??

    What's your current User Account? Local Account or Microsoft Account? If local account, please sign out and switch to Microsoft Account. If not, it should have problem with your Microsoft Account, please try to delete it from your system and readd it for
    test.

    How can I create buttons and images that have a vector like clarity? When I upload images (buttons, jpegs and pngs) a lot of the time they seem to have a slightly fuzzy quality to them.     When you place your images in exactly the size you saved them in Photoshop or whatever, Muse doesn’t touch it.
    The quality in this case is the quality you saved the image.
    The best way is, to examine in Muse the available pixel size of the image and then use Photoshop to obtain this size

  • Time machine backup files gone and can't create new backup

    Last week I noticed on my Time Machine backup HD that the Backup.backupdb files were gone.  Also I am unable to complete backups any longer.  I get an error "The backup disk image “/Volumes/Time Machine-2/walle.sparsebundle” could not be accessed (error -1)."
    This Volume "Time Machine" is connected to an Airport Extreme 7.6.1. I have ejected the disk, disconnected all users, cycled the power on my computer (2.26Ghx MacBook running 10.7.5), Airport, and HD. All it does after I eject is that it give the Volume a new number...ie instead of "Time Machine" it becomes "Time Machine-1"...then "Time Machine-2" and repeates the error message with the new name.  So I cannot start a new backup because of the above error on top of not being able to find my old files.

    I Wish I had seen this before I got mine.
    Mine has been doing this auto eject stuff too.
    I think I just plugged it in and TM let me select it but is it possible
    I should have reformatted it with DU first, like with all the WD drive problems ?
    Is it too late for that ?
    Or just try to return it or get rid of it ?
