Disks don't show --- Solaris 10, Grid Infrastructure 11gR2 Install

I am installing 11gR2 grid infrastructure on a standalone server. It is SPARC Solaris 10. Followed the documentation for preparing disk partitions for ASM. But after launching runInstaller, at step of "Create ASM disk group", no disk shows up. Therefore disk group cannot be created. And the installation cannot continue. Tried ORCL:* for Change Discovery Path. It did not work.
Any help is appreciated.

Hi.
do you on a step at the installation of the ASM or is the ASM Instance installed and ready to use ?
Check the asm_diskstring parameter in the pfile if the ASM can discover the drives correctly .
Are you create a partition our ASM drives ?.

I start my macbook air up and a file comes up with a question mark. When I go to Disk Utility I go to update things or erase everything and my disks don't show up or anything. Anyone know what to do?

Question (?) Mark, Blinking Folder, or Gray Screen at Startup
These are related but not identical issues. Their causes are outlined in Intel-based Mac- Startup sequence and error codes, symbols. Solutions may be found in:
A flashing question mark appears when you start your Mac
Mac OS X- Gray screen appears during startup
In most cases the problems may be caused by:
Problem with the computer's PRAM - See Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM.
Boot drive's directory has been corrupted - Repair with Disk Utility.
Critical system files are damaged or deleted - Reinstall OS X.
The disk drive is physically non-functional - Replace the hard drive.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
The main difference if you are using Lion or Mountain Lion is that you must first boot from the Recovery HD:
    Boot From The Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Reinstall Snow Leopard Without Erasing The drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. 2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing The Drive

Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Installing Grid Infrastructure 11gR2 on a 2nodes cluster: device names req.

Hello, I am trying to install Grid Infrastructure 11gR2 on 2 sun nodes (Solaris 10) in order to try the product. but I am finding an error on the second node. After installing the software on both nodes and executing root.sh in the first node, the second node is complaining about the device I have defined for OCR, voting and ASM (the easiest scenary, 1 diskgroup for OCR, voting and ASM with 1 disk ) :
DiskGroup conf_dg creation failed with the following message:
    ORA-15018: diskgroup cannot be created
ORA-15031: disk     specification '/dev/rdsk/c5t500601603CE02E8Ed20s0' matches no disks
I have realised this device has not the same name on both nodes as boxes are different; the device name in the second system is
    c2t500601673CE02E8Ed20s0
This is slice 0 of and EMC Clariion LUN. As this info is recorded at the crsconfig_params file in both nodes and is the same, should the device names be the same on the N nodes of a Clusterware cluster? How should I do to correct the installation of the second node?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Gurus,
I have similar problems on very first node1, it cannot create the diskgroup when running the root.sh. here is my configuration
two guest ldoms running sol 10 update10 on sparc t5120 and sharing iscsi Luns provided by third ldom ( created zfs volumes and set shareiscsi on)
all the permissions are 777 on /dev/rdsk/c1t*d0s1 and ownership grid:oinstall.
    using solaris.sparc64_11gR2_grid.zip
I have installed 11gr2 rac for x86 using similar configuration with all x86 machines. but I cannot install using sparc as mentioned above. I have put some logs here
    much appreciated for you help.
    Thanks.

  • All episodes don't show up in Grid view

I've got 20 seasons of Top Gear all converted and waiting to be added to iTunes. They exist on my external HD, so when I drag them in to iTunes I hold in Alt/Option, so they stay there.
If I drag in the folders for seasons 1 through 13, all episodes show up, and if I select the show in iTunes I see "tabs/buttons" for Season 1, Season 2, etc etc.  Pic here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2213114/2013-08-23_18-05-00.jpg
However if I drag season 1 through 14 (or more), only season 1 shows up in iTunes grid view.  However all episodes/season show up in List view, and all are available on my Apple TV.
If I drag just, say, season 14 through 20, they add fine.  But if I then add 1 through 13, again only 1 season shows in Grid view.
In all cases the correct number of "New" episodes shows on the blue banner on the cover (i.e "99+").
Top Gear generally has about 6 to 10 episodes per season.
I have exactly the same problem with The Simpsons.
All my other shows added fine.  Just The Simpsons and Top Gear had issues.  I doubt it's a co-incidence those are the only 2 shows I have with hundreds of episodes and 20+ seasons each.  It's almost as if iTunes has some kind of limit…
    Running iTunes 11.0.5 and OS X 10.8.4.

Your website has a link to a feed at
    http://feeds2.feedburner.com/CrossCultureCalvaryChapelPodcast?format=xml
This feed contains the itunes:new-feed-url tag, forwarding to a feed at
    http://calvarychapel.nl/index.php?option=comsermonspeaker&task=podcast&feed=RSS2.0&nohtml=1
This latter feed is what is being used when you click on the 'subscribe' button in the iTunes Store, and the result matches the feed. (The list you have under 'Podcasts' in your own iTunes application probably includes earlier episodes: removing them from the feed doesn't remove them once downloaded, but the removed episodes don't show for new subscribers).
However, the iTunes Store page lists 114 episodes, the last being 28-3-09, thus not showing later additions, and shows earlier episodes present in neither feed. Therefore the page has the correct feed link for subscribers but itself has not updated since March - since when you have changed the URL and deleted earlier episodes. Why this should be I can't say: there is usually a delay before changes show, but only a day or two. It's peculiar that it should have failed to update the Store page but has the correct link on the 'Subscribe' button, and I can only suggest you try contacting Support:

  • Disks don't show in DVD player

Hiya. I've got the latest version of iPhoto.
I tried burning photos to a CD, using the Export option and then a Burn folder. The burn went fine, but the photos don't show up on my DVD player. The player can display Kodak Picture CDs, but apparently not the ones I burn, at least not in the present configuration, which I presume is not the same as the Kodak CD style.
So - is there anything I can do to make said disks work on my DVD player? Some setting I'm as yet unaware of?
    Thanks

You are correct that iPhoto does not make Picture Cds.
The Finder also will not make Picture CDs.
You can however make 99 photo slideshow within iDVD. You can have a lot more slideshows all with 99 photos in them. Of course you have to have iDVD and a supported DVD burner
You can also use a third party program that will do Picture CDs for you that will play in supported DVD players.

I have installed and configured Asm lib through configure command
I was able to list the disks with the below commands
    1./etc/init.d/oracleasm listdisks it was listing

    2. /etc/init.d/oracleasm-discover ORCL:*
i was able to discover the disks
I had change the Discovery path in the "Create ASM Disks" to ORCL:* still it is not appearing
    Any help is appreciated.

    Hi,
You can change Discovery Path of ASM to : /dev/oracleasm/disks/*
It's same result and Oracle recommend do that in case of discover (ORCL:*) not working.
    Check this note:

  • How many disk for redundancy on Grid Infrastructure 11gR2 Installation?

I would like too know, How many least disk for normal and high redundancy ?
and please explain to me about structure of normal redundancy & high redundancy.
    Edited by: user13049841 on Mar 15, 2011 2:37 AM
    Edited by: user13049841 on Mar 15, 2011 2:37 AM

Redundancy Level      Minimum Number of Disks
    External           1
    Normal                2
    High                3
If you only have a disk, means you will not be able to implement normal/high redundancy. In external redundancy ASM presumes the data duplication is taken care at a storage level (e.g. mirrored SAN etc.).
structure of normal redundancy & high redundancyRedundancy is actually a data duplication, so let say if a disk in a Disk Group1 fails, and there is a fail over Disk Group B, so ASM will continue operation.
    Must read note for you..
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28301/asm002.htm#ADMQS12079
    Extractions from the link..
Failure groups are used to determine which ASM disks to use for storing redundant copies of data. example, if 2-way mirroring is specified for a file, ASM automatically stores redundant copies of file extents in separate failure groups.

When I boot from the install cd, I get to the point in the installer where I can select the disk to install on, but no disk shows up...The hard drive nor the CD.
The CD will not show up as you cannot install OS X to a CD. Your Hard Drive not showing up may be due to
    a. HDD not formatted or not properly formatted.
    b. Damaged or failed.
If your HDD is the original one that came with the computer it has probably failed and even it showed it would be rather unstable, anyway. If you installed a new HDD, you will need to format it first. Post back and let me know which of those conditions obtains. I can give you step by step directions for formatting, if needed.

  • Verify if  db or grid infrastructure is installed by oracle or root

As topic, how can I know that if one used oracle or root user to install the installer??
may anyone have any good verification test to do it?
    thanks.

For any Oracle installation, the user has to follow preinstallation requirements...
Here is the link for Oracle Database Preinstallation Requirements
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e24321/pre_install.htm#BABFDGHJ
Please compare preinstallation requirements with your envirnment then you will come to know weather the previous install is correct or not.

  • 11gR2 grid infrastructure hangs at 93% when checcking user mask!

    Hello Folks,
I have a weird situation over here!
I have setup 2 nodes solaris 10 to install grid infrastructure 11gR2/ASM and RAC DB later.
I have setup them according to the install guide including kernel..project..env..umask..network interfaces..SCAN IP which resolves to 3 IPs which is registered in our DNS.
I have run the CLUVFY and it went fine..Then I started the OUI..all was good till it reaches the PREREQUISITES screen..it always start the checking here and gets stuck at 93% (CHECKING USER MASK ...) which is absolutely configured right:
--As oracle user (From both nodes):
    $ umask
022 I will include the CLUVFY and OUI log in the next message right away.
    Please advise.
    Cheers,

  • ASMCA needs Oracle Grid Infrastructure to configure ASM

    Hi,
I am trying to install ASM 11gR2 on RHEL5. I am using VMWare Workstation for this.
I have already installed Oracle database software and Grid Infrastructure on this machine. While installing Grid Infrastructure, I chose install Grid Infrastructure software only.
Once this was successfull I am trying to create ASM instance using asmca.
Regarding the disks, I am using raw devices. I created a virtual disk which I have partitioned but haven't formatted it. Done this to create raw device
    [root@localhost sysconfig]# /bin/raw /dev/raw/raw1 /dev/sdb
    /dev/raw/raw1: bound to major 8, minor 16
    and have added
    ACTION=="add",KERNEL=="sdb",RUN+="/bin/raw /dev/raw/raw1 %N"
    to /etc/udev/rules.d/60-raw.rules
Then I tried creating the disk but it failed. So I did the following steps to fix it
    [root@dhcppc2 Softwares]# /etc/init.d/oracleasm createdisk VOL1 /dev/sdb
Marking disk "VOL1" as an ASM disk: [FAILED]
    [oracle@oracle11gR2 grid]$ tail -f /var/log/oracleasm
Device "/dev/sdb" is not a partition
    To fix this
    [root@localhost ~]# /usr/sbin/asmtool -C -l /dev/oracleasm -n VOL1 -s /dev/sdb -a force=yes
asmtool: Device "/dev/sdb" is not a partition
    asmtool: Continuing anyway
Now I am able to view the asmdisk through listdisks option.
Have set following environment variables before running asmca
    [oracle@oracle11gR2 ~]$ export ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/Grid
    [oracle@oracle11gR2 ~]$ export PATH=/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/Grid/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/kerberos/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/home/oracle/bin
When I am running ASMCA I am facing this error - Oralce Grid Infrastrcture is not configured properly. ASMCA needs Oracle Grid Infrastructure to configure ASM
    Any thoughts?

    Hi Aman,
    Thanks for the reply.
Is it possible to configure 11gR2 ASM on single instance databases ? I have done the config with 10g but I am struggling with the Grid Infrastructure. For eg: when I do deinstall of Grid Infrstructure
    +[oracle@oracle11gR2 deinstall]$ ./deinstall -home /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/Grid+

Am I doing things in the right way or am I missing something here?

  • Grid Infrastructure installable for Oracle Restart only (No ASM)?

    Hello,
Can Oracle Grid Infrastructure be installed for its Oracle Restart functionality only? i.e., No ASM,; this box uses local RAID 5 filesystems only.
This is a standalone 32-bit RHEL 5 system with Oracle Database 10gR2 already installed that I intend to upgrade to 11gR2. Just experimenting with installing Grid Infrastructure for only its restart capability. There isn't anything out there I've found that addresses this other than the Oracle doc stating that the Infrastructure must be installed if I want to use ASM or Oracle Restart.
I'm currently in the installer in a Software Only installation waiting for my SysAdmin to run the root.sh script, but in looking at this script, it looks like it might try to do things with CRS, voting files and the like, which do not exist.
    Thank you!
    -Jon

    Hi Erik,
Can Oracle Grid Infrastructure be installed for its Oracle Restart functionality only? Yes ... you can do that installing Software Only
I'm currently in the installer in a Software Only installation waiting for my SysAdmin to run the root.sh script, but in looking at this script, it looks like it might try to do things with CRS, voting files and the like, which do not exist.Don't worry about that ... at the end of the execution of the root.sh script will report a proceedings to configure only Oracle Restart.
Only this resource "ora.evmd" will appear online.
