DISKS GET EJECTED WHEN INSERTED : what to do ?

one month ago, I replaced my old combo drive in my PB G4 15" Titanium by a MATSHITA DVD RAM UJ-845S (bought as OWC Mercury optical drive). It worked very nicely until a few days. now whenever I insert a disk (cd or dvd), it makes a few unusual noises and ejects them. what is the problem and how to solve it ? it seems the connection to the mother board is ther, as the disk seems to respond, but it does not really spin.

I have had many problems with the CD-ROM drive on my 400MHz Ti PB. Same type issue. I opened the thing up, took out the drive. Fiddled around with it for a while, stuck it back in and it works. Who knows.
I bought a 1GHz Ti PB with a superdrive. It gives me problems as well. I can only play one DVD at a time. If I try to insert another one, it kicks it out. have to do a restart for it to load properly.

Panther Install disks get ejected on attempt to uprgrade from OSX 10.1

I just bought a used Powermac G4 877 Mhz that had OS 10.2 installed. It has upgraded memory, ungraded Pioneer Combodrive (DVD-RW CD-RW)and an updated video card. I have Panter OSX 10.3 (Panther) Install disks. My goal was to upgrade this new G4 to 10.3 with these disks.
I first used the seller's 10.1 Install disks to clean out the system and start from scratch. Then I attempted to load my 10.3 Install disks to begin the installation. I held down the "c" key as you are supposed to when you restart the OS but instead of coming up in the Installer, the 10.3 disks for ejected and the operating system booted into 10.1.
I'm not sure if this symptom is related but I notice that there is no sound coming from Playing iTunes songs after I installed OS10.1
I'm taken a step backward because when the Mac was sold to me I checked out from the Profiler that the OS was v10.2. Now I'm at v10.1 and don't have a way to get to 10.3 because of this problem.
Any suggestion on fixing this problem would greatly be appreciated. What happened and how do I fix it?

For whatever reason, the sypmtoms of this problem went away just by re-doing the installation of OS X 10.1 from the original installation disks and downloading a few security updates to 10.1 until the OSX 10.1 Updater said I was "up to date".
After this install, I was able to load my 10.3 Panther install disks w/o them being ejected and w/o a non-response (i.e., no error diaglogs and no appearance of my installation CD on the desktop) from OS 10.1.
If anyone cares to offer up a reason for why near-identical recreaation of the steps resulted in the original problem, I would be interested in hearing.

I have previously discussed this problem in another thread. I have .mts files that I insert in a project (project preset set to PAL-AVCHD Full-HD)....when inserting i always need to render the clips and as many peole have mentioned, this should not be needed, instead PrEl should take care of this by itself..and it really sunds weird if it doesnt...
So, why is this happen...i get so frustrated when I have to re-render the clips all the time, since also - it takes a looong time for jsut tiny tiny clips ? I posted the hardware specs I have two days ago in this same forum, and it looks from the answers I got that this hardware should be enough for not having to wait several minutes to jsut add a 6 second AVCHD clip ?
Please look at below image that is a screenshot from MediaInfo about the details for my .mts file I'm trying to add - resulting in new rendering needed, plus the fact that it takes about 5 minutes to render it ??
Please, suggestion or solutions ? I'm lost...I got feedback yesterday that this is a known problem with both PrEl 8 and PrEl 9 ..that AVCHD clips needs to get rendered manually when they are added....i.e a known bug in these versions ?? Any experience ? How can I move forward, I have problems to understand that such bug should exist without anysolution and/or workaround since I see this as a feature that MUST work for people not getting crazy :-)

Are you opening a project created in PRE8 with PRE9? If yes, that is the most likely cause of the problem. Create a new PRE9 project and see if the same problems after you import the clip and save the project. No, I'm only working in Pr 8.0 - I have this problem as soon as I add a clip..not that into the different formats, just know that the best possible output from my camera (Canon HF10) should be AVCHD..thats why I added teh detailed info from "MediaInfo". can you tell from that info I'm correct, i.e that the .mts file is really AVCHD as expected ? Just to help me confirm that. So, I havent been using PrEl 9.0...another person two days ago told me that PrEl 9 also got similar problems as I reported for my PrEl 8.0 ?
When you first added the clip to your project did you receive any messages that the file was not suitable for the format? If so did you accept the offered preset? If you didn't start a new PRE9 project and this time accept the offer. No, I did not get any messages as all about the format. Occasionally I get something like "Do you want to fix the quality in the clip" ..cant recall exactelly what the message is, but its for sure nothing about the format
When you put it into the project, did you have a red line running the length of the timeline? If you do then your preset is not correct (this is purely PRE9. PRE8 always required rendering AVCHD footage).Yes, always when I add a clip I get this red line. If I understand everything correctly this means I have to hit ENTER key to create a preview file....thats my second problem - as soon as I do that, it renders the clip very very slowly although I should have prety good hardware (According to spec posted two days ago).
So, as a summary. Do you think that buying Premiere Elements 9.0 should get rid of this problem when adding AVCHD ? If that is the case, I feel I just want to be sure about this and that I will not experience the problem again. Can it not just be some setting that is, by default, not correct in Premiere El 8.0 that is causing this or is this really a known bug without fixes available from Adobe?

Are disk images ejected when computer is shut off?

My computer just shut off on me unexpectedly, something is wrong with me and I need to take it to get fixed, but I had a disk image open with personal files in it including social security information and the likes, and I wouldn't want them to be seen by whoever is fixing my laptop, and I was just wondering if it would have been ejected when the computer shut off? Thank you!

Yes, they will be ejected. However, if the image files are on your hard drive, then anyone could gain access if they aren't encrypted images.

Tiger install disk gets ejected, won't mount

Hello. I'm trying to upgrade my G5 to Tiger. The disk won't mount and gets ejected after about 30 seconds. I'm able to mount the Panther DVD. Any ideas? Thanks

You'll want to get the retail version to upgrade your G5.

Updated firmware, now blank CDs are immediately ejected when inserted

This morning I updated the firmware on my boss's MacBook Pro. Afterwards when I inserted a blank CD to burn, it accepted it, spun it around (nothing popped up on the desktop) and spit it back out. I tried multiple cds (including opening a new package of cds to try) and restarted the computer. Any ideas? Also, if I was to bring this to an Apple Store, what sort of charge would there be? Thank you.

One thing to try if you haven't already is to use Disk Utility to repair permissions. Sometimes these get messed up and cause problems.
You can make an appointment at the genius bar and talk to someone for free. If the MBP is not under warranty and the genius suspects a hardware problem, there would probably be a fee to diagnose the problem, and you would be told in advance what it might be. If the MBP is under warranty, then there would be no charge for either the diagnosis or the repair.
Be sure and make an appointment at the genius bar, as they can be very busy and it can be hard to get in otherwise. Bring a variety of CD's to try--different brands if you can. There's a good chance that the genius will know what's wrong and how to fix it and it won't cost you anything.

Error message "disk is locked" when inserting blank DVD

My G4 is supposed to be able to burn a DVD, but when I insert the sample DVD that came with the computer when it was new, I keep getting the "disk is locked" message. It also happens with other DVD's that I bought specifically to use with the G4. I would appreciate your suggestions.

Any optical drive software that is worth its salt should enable burning of data discs (4.7GB or 8.5GB in the case of DVDs) as well as of specialized file formats. That said, however, one of the commonest reasons for failure to burn, even failure to recognize an optical drive, is extension conflict. This was especially true of Roxio's Toast v5.x, when using which it was necessary to disable all Apple extensions, USB and FireWire, so that control of the drive could be taken by Toast extensions. I had to do this only recently to get a friend's LaCie DVD-R burner to be recognized as a DVD (rather than CD) burner by a B&W under OS 9.2.2, let alone to burn DVDs. That possibility was the reason for asking about your software. However, if you are using only Apple software, there should be no issue of software conflicts of this nature.
Without wishing or intending to fob you off, I suggest that you will get much more up-to-the-moment guidance from active fellow-sufferers than is likely in this antediluvian category if you approach them in the iDVD specialist forums, which are divided into iDVD 6, 5, and 4 and under.

Photo from iPhoto gets cropped when inserted into iMovie

My old video (miniDV camcorder, DV) is 4:3 and lower resolution than my photos (16:9, good digicam). I inserted a vertical photo into a video project, and the photo gets truncated on playback.
I expected it to be scaled to fit when shown on the screen, like iPhoto does.
Am I doing something wrong? Please tell me iMovie handles inserted photos sensibly.

Images used in ppt get lost when inserting them into captivate project

I've been seeing this issue in both Captivate 3 and 4.
Basically, I have successfully recorded a software demonstration, and wanted to add some powerpoint slides to the project. These slides include some diagrams containing graphics. When I go to insert the slides into the project, the preview shows that some of the graphics are gone, and when I complete the operation, this is confirmed. Many of the graphics in my slides are now missing after the insert/import. I created the slides with office 2007, but saved them in 97/2003 format.
This is frustrating to say the least, since these slides are an integral part of the demo I am trying to create.
Any ideas on how to get this working?

Sometimes we see that when you choose to import from PowerPoint it doesn't go so well and you don't end up with what you expect. One possible workaround involves launching PowerPoint and simply recording the desired slides using Captivate. Either that or simply grab screen captures of the slides as you wish to see them in Captivate.

Disk throughput drops when inserting data packages in write-optimized DSO

we are currently testing our new freshly installed SAN.
To see the performance gain in BI, I'm currently doing some test loads.
And during the monitoring of those loads, I noticed something I'd like someone to explain :-):
I execute a DTP from PSA to a write-optimized DSO.
The n° of parallel processes = 9
Update method = serial extraction, immediate parallel processing
N° of records transferred: +23.000.000
Ok, in the first phase (read the PSA) only one process is used (serial extraction). When I look in OS07, I notice we have very good throughput: +66.000 TransfKB/s. Very nice!
But as soon as BI starts inserting the data packages, and parallel processing kicks in, the throughput drops to 4K or something, and sometimes we get 20K at max. That's not too good.
We have a massive SAN , but the BI system does not seem to use it?
I was wondering why this is the case. I already toyed around with the package size, but it's always the same.
Also I noticed that the allocated processes don't seem to be active. I allocated 9 BTC processes to this load.
They are all used, but we only see 3 inserts at the same time, max. Also in the DTP-monitor, only 3 packages are processed at the same time. As it's a write-optimized DSO, RSODSO_SETTINGS does not apply I presume.
Any ideas?

I am not sure why first data package is taking long time and otehr data package is taking less time..
Do you have any start routine..If datapak = 1.. the do this logic..

The got the solution which is nothing tricky. I have to just insert <param name = "MODIFY_CLASS" value = "ZTEST_BWREPORTS_ADI"/> after <param name = "ITEM_CLASS" value = "CL_RSR_WWW_ITEM_GRID"> to get the desired result. Though I don't know what might be the reason (since I am very new to BW) but atleast the thing is working.

Disk Drive Ejecting When Woken Up From Sleep

Hello,
I noticed when my iMac wakes from sleep it sounds like the disc drive is ejecting?
I just received this iMac after returning another one with a pixel problem and I could swear that it didn't make the same noise when it wakes up from sleep.
Does anyone know anything about this ?

They all did it by default but apple put out a firmware update a few weeks ago which stops certain drives doing this when woken up from sleep.

Google Maps URLs get corrupted when inserted into Numbers

I've noticed that Numbers doesn't like complex Google Maps URLs. Directions between any 2 points should work fine, but if you make a custom path like so:

Some of the percent signs (%) get changed to %25 or whatever the proper HTML escape code is.
The funny thing is, these URLs are still valid Google Maps addresses, but now show different routes, generally in the same neighborhood!

As I explained yesterdays in an other thread, the problem is that you don't use Numbers correctly.
Inserting an URL as is in a cell is a wrongdoer.

HT1420 why does my ipad get ejected when I click on the menu arrow in the ipad button of itunes?

I only run itunes to backup my ipad just before letting it install a new os version, but every time, i try to use the down arrow on the ipad button it ejects my ipad. isn't this weird?

I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the issue you are describing. If you are talking about the smaller button with an underlined triangle inside of the larger iPad button in iTunes, that is normal behavior; that is the Eject icon used on Mac computers and in other Apple software. Are other DVDs ejected as well? If so, you are looking at a problem with the optical drive.
