DiskWarrior 4.0/Deleting Damaged Files/Tiger

Hi, I just ran DiskWarrior 4.0, Files Report says I have many damaged files that cannot be repaired. I would like to know how to find these damaged files, how to delete them once found, etc. The following is a sample of the damaged files:
1) File:"PrintOption.rsrc"
Resource header damaged and cannot be repaired
Location:"Hard Disk/Library/Printers/EPSON/C86Series.
plugin/Contents/PDEs/PrintOption.plugin/Contents/
Resources/French.Iproj/"
2) File:"._Info.plist"
Property List data damaged and cannot be repaired
XML parser error:
Unexpected character at line 1
Old-style plist parser error:
Unexpected character '0x5' at line 1
Location:"Hard Disk/DESKTOP 5:24:07/CHATTING INFO/Snak
4.9.3 Folder
Angel

You could spend the time tracking down the files and depending on how many of them there are that might work. The Epson file you posted is probably nothing more than an out of date driver. If you no longer have that model of printer you could probably uninstall the driver and not worry any longer. You could also see if there is a newer driver available for that model of printer and update the driver which in all probability will solve the problem with that file. The other file you mention is a corrupted preference file, You could just trash it and the next time you use Snak, which I believe is the application being referenced, a new one would be created.
However, if it were me I would just reformat the drive and reinstall from your current backup copy and be done with it. These problems are not indicative of any kind of hardware failure but rather are small software issues. In fact, if you are having no problems with your MAc you could just ignore them and it may not cause any problems whatsoever. Still, if it were me and I had a dozen or so issues like this pop up I would reformat and reinstall.

I only have one video project that I ever published to iDisk. It didn't have any music or photo files attatched to it, just a few clips stitched together. I can play these clips right now in the Event Library (so I know the source files are on my computer), but strangely, under the Project Library, the project is not there. I'm almost certain that I didn't store the project on iDisk; I just completed the video and published it to iDisk (as a .mov file I think) for family to see. I've tried to figure out how to get iDisk to stop looking for this project to no avail.
I don't know if others have experienced this, but if I click on any project and on the menu bar select Share --> Remove From --> Media Browser... it lists iPod, iPhone, iPad, tv, Computer and MobileMe. Why would MobileMe be an option here? This is the case for any video project I select. Didn't iLife '11 and/or OSX 10.8 remove all mention of MobileMe? I wonder if this is part of the problem too.
Edit: I just removed every project I have from the Media Browser. Still no luck.

  • Diskwarrior found a damaged file...

after scanning the system with it gives me the following :
    File: ".a23t.obdev.LSD.plist"

So that means i should be able to go to that directory and delete that damaged file, but for some reason i cannot find that file at all. Tried using spotlight and even this other Haundo whatever spotlight search enhancer and it can't find that file.. is it hidden ? If so, how do i disable hidden files ?
Or any other program that might find this file or am i missing something ?
    Thanks for the help!

That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • Memory is supposedly Full, deleted some files, and now I can't open Itunes.

I have a Macbook Pro but I don't play any games, I've never downloaded movies, but I do download music approx. 16GB and pictures...though not sure how to see how much memory these take up. Recently I've had trouble because my computer keeps notifying me that there is no space on the startup disk...which I can't understand why because I don't really have many files or programs on my computer. I've been deleting old files or things I don't really use and now my Itunes won't open saying there's an error (13014). So I have several questions, what is the best way to make space on the "startup disk" whatever that means, and how can I fix the error that's preventing me from accessing itunes? I have a feeling that my pictures might be taking up a lot of the space, how do I know when a single picture is too large and how could I condense them? Also when the memory gets full, my Microsoft Word starts acting all funky, is it because of the full memory? Thanks for your time:)

Just as a matter of info you have posted in the MacBook Pro (Late 2008 and 2009) > Using your MacBook Pro (Late 2008 and 2009) forums. Not that your issue matters matters so much where it's posted but in the future you would want to post where users have similar hardware as you do, MacBook Pro (Original)

In any case as F Shippey suggests you may have directory issues. If Disk Utility cannot repair the directory then you may need a stronger disk utility like DiskWarrior to rebuild the directory.

  • I deleted some files and realized I still needed some they are in the trashcan how can I get them out

I deleted these files from the download and Ireally went to far.

If they are still in the trash, in other words you did not empty (delete) the trash, just double click on the trashcan icon & a window will open showing everything in the trash.  Drag the items you want out of the trash.
If you emptied the trash, do not use your computer as the "deleted" items will be overwritten.  It's possible you can recover by using any one of the following 3rd party data recovery utilities:
"Data Rescue II" from prosofteng.com has a free download demo available.   You will need to follow/read the directions carefully.
VirtualLab™ Data Recovery  has a free download demo available.

  • Itunes damaged files

I am using an external hard disk for storing songs and I continuously get error message : iTunes.exe damaged files (dutch beschadigd bestand). I already downloaded the update version of Ipod and reinstalled the Ipod itself. I should run CHKDSK and now more than 1000 files are removed while listening on my ipod before the files were good.
While using Ipod songs are skipped or overruled by fragments of other songs.
    What could be wrong;
    - my new external harddisk ?
    - my Ipod itself?
    - Itunes programm?

If Windows has difficulty reading information off iPod or iPod shuffle, it may display a message from the System Tray, indicating there's a corrupt file and to please run the Chkdsk utility.
I recommend using the latest iPod Updater to restore iPod because this will address the file system issue and will also defragment the iPod drive. Although you can use the Chkdsk utility to fix file system errors on the drive mapped to iPod, Chkdsk will not defragment the drive.
Warning: The restore process cannot be undone. All of your songs and files will be deleted. Always make a backup of your important data.
Tip: Make sure you always eject iPod properly and that you wait for the orange light to stop blinking before disconnecting iPod shuffle. Click here to learn more about iPod shuffle status lights.
This issue may be more likely to occur on iPod shuffle if iPod shuffle's file system has become heavily fragmented. A restore will eliminate fragmentation. Chkdsk will not.
    For restoring the ipod
Open the iPod Software Updater application. It's in the Utilities folder, which is in your Applications folder. Open the iPod Updater showing the most recent date in the filename.
Connect your iPod to your Computer.
When it becomes available, click Restore. An alert box appears to confirm you want to restore iPod.
A dialogue box will appear prompting you to enter an adminstrator's name and password.
A progress bar appears on the computer screen.
When the restore process on the computer has finished, close the iPod Updater and look at the screen on the iPod.
If you see an image of a wall power plug, connect your iPod to the AC adapter that came with it and plug it into a wall outlet and wait for the restore to complete.
If you see a progress bar underneath the Apple logo, leave the iPod connected to the computer.
If you had to put iPod into Disk Mode before restoring, the iPod screen may display "OK to Disconnect" and you may need to reset iPod.
After the restore is complete and the iPod is connected to the computer, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear asking you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences similar to when you connected your iPod for the first time.
iPod has been restored to factory settings and updated with the music and playlists in your iTunes music library.

  • Is it safe to delete preview files/folders?

I noticed I have 30gb or more of folders in a folder called preview files.  These seem to be the product of rendering and look like a waste of space - what happens if i delete the whole lot for projects i no longer work on?  would removing these and the CFA and PEAK files damage the ability to work on the file at a later stage?  I could use the extra space!
    j

First of all, there is a difference between preview files and Media Cache files.
Preview files are those, which are created when you render the timeline. By default they are .mpeg and .xmp. If you delete them via Sequence -> Delete Render Files, .mpeg files, which represent the current state of your timeline, will be deleted, whereas the rest .mpeg files, which represent older state of your timeline, and all .xmp ones remain.
If you delete them manually, i.e. without going to Sequence -> Delete Render Files, you will be asked about some missing media on that project re-launch.
Media Cache files, some of which are .pek and .cfa, are created when you import assets into a project. You can check the Media Cache files location via Preferences -> Media.
Deleting all files from both Media Cache and Media Cache Files folders is safe: PrPro will rebuild Media Cache Database from scratch on restart. Moreover, deleting all files from both Media Cache and Media Cache Files manually sometimes helps fixing Dynamic Link or Importer Generic Error issues.

  • Recover SD Card DELETED .avi files

    Hi there...
I use my Canon Ixus 70 to record some of the Video clips (.avi) but unluckily i'm accidently deleted ONE important .avi file...
    Question:
How to Restore/Recover the deleted .avi file?
I own the Data Rescue II and trying to use it for restore the deleted .avi file...finally,jpeg files successfully to recover but not .avi file...
Do Data Rescue II posible to recover video/.avi file?
If not, what else software will you recommend to me for my CASE??
Your helps are most appreciate !!
    Thanks

Last Christmas my wife deleted a major movie from our camera. I tried several Mac programs, but had no luck. I then took the SD card to an old windows box, and i found two or three free programs that were able to find the lost AVI. PC Inspector was the best of the bunch. http://www.pcinspector.de/Sites/smart_recovery/info.htm?language=2. (After all, the SD cards are usually formated in MS-DOS Fat 32..)
I now currently own Data Rescue II, DiskWarrior, and TechTool Pro (great buy with MacUpdate's MacBundle). I recently had to recover some lost images, and the truth is that PC Inspector was still the best solution.

  • How to delete unnceccesary files to gain space ?

I was reading that we loose many GB with many unuses Printer Drivers, Languages, Fonts, and Applications we don't need.
Is there a way to find and delete these files (eg:language files) easily, and effectively ? Is it a freeware or can it be done manually ?
OSX10.4 here (which means Monolingual doesn't work for me)
    Thanks

XSlimmer will work with Tiger, but it is shareware. There are other utilities such as Onyx that may provide a similar mechanism, and it is freeware.
As for printer drivers you can manually delete unneeded drivers from the /Library/Printers/ folder. Or you can reinstall OS X and select only the driver family you need as a customized installation.
For unwanted applications simply drag them from the Applications folder to the Trash. I would not delete any application normally installed with OS X. If you do it creates problems when you update as those applications would not be updated if they are missing.

  • Constant 'damaged file message when it isn't

Please help, I have an IMAC, and I just cant seem to get Adobe Reader to work write.  Now I get a damaged file message on a PDF both emailed to me anda  document I downloaded, when I know for a fact there is nothing wrong with the document at all because it works on my IPAD and PC?  HELLLLLLPPP

Do a clean reinstall and download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
You can skip the step to create a new profile, that is not necessary for this issue.

  • Dump Previous Systems and Damaged Files?

I just upgraded to Tiger (10.4.6) from 10.3.9. I have two new folders on my Finder now, Previous Systems and Damaged Files. As I have only 25 GB of an 80 gig hard drive left, is it OK to dump them?
eMac 1.24 GHz Power PC G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

With 25 GB remaining you should be in no immediate danger of filling the hard drive and killing the system, so you can take your time checking out 10.4.6 before you toss the Previous Systems folder. You can look it over and decide if there are any files in there you want to still use. That said, I kept the Previous System folder around on my eMac after updating for all of maybe three days, so yeah, you can toss Previous Systems.
I'd be more concerned about a Damaged Files folder. I've never seen thaat as part of an upgrade, it suggests there may be directory or physical disk damage. If you open Disk Utility, what does it show for your hard drive's SMART status? If you boot from the Tiger install disk and run Disk Utility> Repair Disk from the Installer menu, does it report any problems? What sort of files are in the Damaged Files folder?

  • Unsupported format or damaged files

My project was going fine but all of a sudden 2 clips won't show up (.mxf files). I tried to re-link to the clip and I get the message 'unsupported format or damaged files'. I link to a copy of the clip on another drive and then it works. I replaced the 'corrupted file???' with the new clip thinking the clip was corrupted, but always the same message. I read to delete the cache files that may cause trouble, but it still does not work. Did anybody had the same problem and find the answer?

Just wanted to add this picture...all other clips shows up except 0009OJ when I replace the clip with a copy of the clip that is on another drive it still does the same thing....

  • {E2883E8F-472F-4FB0-9522-AC9BF37916A7} damaged file, how can I get good working flash and shockwave?

Hi, I have been researching these forums for too long!  I cannot find an answer that resolves my problem.  I too had the damaged file and 3 empty java files.  I deleted them.  I searched for the gp.ocx and gp.inf.  I did not find the ocx but found an agp file.  I deleted it but it did not delete the damaged file, thus my justification for deleting it.
I have IE8, Windows XP SP3, and have had trouble playing certain games for months.  I get so frustrated each time I undertake trying to resolve the problem that it never gets done.  I used to have Shockwave and somewhere it was lost.  I tried unsuccessfully to install it several times until I finally removed all but the adobe reader and downloaded the flash and shockwave again.  This time the shockwave took but it still is not working.  Initially the problem with shockwave seemed to be the SwDir.dll, and SWDNLD files.
Also the DLM kept coming up saying click to download.  I did only to have it disappear after closing it.
I hope this is sufficient information to give me guidance.  Also, Ken said that he went directly to the adobe ftp to download his files directly.  Where are those?  I am losing money everyday that I cannot get this to operate/function properly.
Thank you so much in advance for any help any one can give me.

Hi.  Here is a link for downloading shockwave player directly from Adobe.

(Have downloaded it quickly and simply for Imac - don't have it working yet though)

Delete the booklet and then download it again through your previous purchased section in iTunes. If that does not work, then report the issue to the iTunes Store.
