Dislike new Firefox-lost bookmarks-lost plain yahoo. How to revert back?

I updated to new Firefox. It will only go to Yahoo! but my bookmarks are all on plain old Yahoo. I have tried going to the bookmarks.yahoo.com site and bookmarks are there but I can't move them over. Also, on Yahoo! I seem to have to sign in every time which I surely don't want to do. I would like to return to classic Yahoo, but it that is no longer possible then I want a much better toolbar across the top and I want to have my old bookmarks back. Please don't tell me to look under bookmarks in help - I have tried that. Thanks.

Do you still have the Firefox Profile Folder with that personal data?

If you purchased the apps from the Mac App Store, log into the Mac App Store, go to Purchases and redownload them. If you didn't and you have the CD/DVD of iLife you can reinstall the apps from there.
If you have a Time Machine backup or clone of your previous OS X install, you can use the Migration Assistant to copy over your apps.

Profile in use, can't be accessed, FF only worked when I created a new profile, are bookmarks lost?

My computer crashed, when I restarted it and restarted FF (6.0.12.1739, with google, adobe and similar plugins), I got the "already running" message.
I use Windows 7.
When I learned to look for the parent lock file, not only was it not there, but my original profile folder to be empty.
So I created another profile folder, and now FF works, but I cannot access my old profile folder.
When I open the location where it should be, nothing's there. But if I go to profile manager, I see my original profile '' is'' still there (and apparently it's where it should be). I tried typing its location in Start, to no avail.
'''I tried making all folders visible,''' as some sites recommend for people who use Windows, but this did not make my old profile folder visible.
Are my bookmarks lost for good?
I have restarted the computer several times 'til now.

I forgot to mention that I can't access my old profile, because whenever I click on it, I continue to get the "already running" message. I know that I exit FF when I access profile manager.

Please, I am partially handicapped, and with the new version 4.0, I have lost ALL my Most Visited links and history, plus my Norton Safe master log on manager is also gone. (Typing in difficult for me)
Regretting this upgrade BIG time, I want to revert back to the last version but cannot find any instructions anywhere.
One blog entry I read said that the revert process (not explained how) made that person lose ALL their bookmarks.
There was NO warning that this 4.0 version would do any of this, and this is unacceptable, my favorite browser for a long time has me wondering now if I should go to Chrome!

Firefox 4.0 has a combined Reload, Stop, & Go button that appears at the right end of the location bar. Only one function is ever active at any one time, so combining them save UI space was a good idea. When a page is loading, it is a "Stop" button, when it finished loading, it turns into a "Reload" button, and when you start to type something into the Location bar it turns into a "Go" button.
To restore the Firefox 3 appearance you can use these steps:
* Open the "View > Toolbars > '''Customize'''" window or right-click a vacant area on a Toolbar, ''except fot the Bookmarks Toolbar''.
* Then drag'n'drop the Reload and Stop buttons to their previous position at the left side of the Location bar.

Install of latest Firefox upgrade won't complete, now having multiple problems and can't find how to revert back to previous mode.

I got a prompt to upgrade, but the install mechanism just keeps looping, says connecting but nothing ever happens. Daily I get warnings to install, and each effort ends as above. Now some of the prompt boxes (such as "are you sure you want to delete...") appear in subdued/basic mode. I was going to simply revert back to the previous edition that worked, but can't find how to do that.

I am having an issue with the Software Update also. The window says, "It is strongly recommended that you apply this update for Firefox as soon as possible"....It won't let me see the information of this update. So if the first Admin account still exists (you can have more than one account with Admin priveleges) its password will still be valid. Also from within that first Admin account, you can delete the second account created by your son-in-law, if you wanted to do that.
Any software he installed should be in Applications and will still be accessible to all other accounts.
Also be aware you can reset your son-in-laws Admin password as outlined here.

Thank you for your question, and I am sorry to hear that you lost your bookmarks. In order to check if they are still there you can look in the profile folder on the computer [[Use the Profile Manager to create and remove Firefox profiles]]
As for syncing from the android, it is possible to add the account to the desktop and the two should merge.

After changing to a newer Firefox, my bookmarks have disappeared, and "restore from backup" just gives "unable to process the backup file".

I've tried the maintenance tool for places.sqlite, and even deleting the file so firefox rebuilds it. But no joy. New version is 36.0.1. Can't remember old one, but it was quite old. Five json files available, but none work

I've found my own answer.
I copied the bookmark .json file to a USB stick. Carried it to another PC which still had an old Firefox, and successfully read it there. The exported as HTML and carried it back & imported it.
If anybody else with this problem isn't lucky enough to have another PC with an old Firefox, I'm willing to bet you could just install Chrome instead & it would read it happily.

Try to reset some preferences to the default with the SearchReset extension:

I had the same problem, in fact, I'm one of the people who clicked, "I have this problem, too!"
I used to have blank tabs when I would open them, but I downloaded some shady software that I didn't know had add-ons! I tried the "about:config" method and messed around with some of those things but nothing happened. After deleting and reinstalling firefox it still happened, and after doing a computer wide search of 'Ya' or 'yahoo' it came up empty. That told me it's combined with some other program or it's under a different name completely. When I would open a new tab, the url would come up something like:
www.click.1.3.yahoo.com/tab_search_000,00.03 blah blah blah. toward the end of the string though, the word "Freeze" appeared. So I went back to my control panel and looked for the word freeze in anything, even as the host site. I FOUND IT! It was some net assistant bug that downloaded off of some other software I had running. Hope this helps some of you!

All I get in the menu bar when I open Firefox IS "Firefox"--no bookmarks, no nothing. How canI get bookmarks back and Firefox functioning.

I have used Firefox forever. (I also use Thunderbird.) When I opened Firefox all I get now in the menu bar is the word "Firefox" with the "About Firefox," "Preferences," etc. list. Nothing else. I cannot open Firefox and I cannot quit it, either. I can do nothing with it at all. How can I get it back. I need my hundreds of bookmarks.
I use a MAC with Lion 10.7.5

Try to repair the disk permissions:
