Dism command in windows 2008 SP2

Ho do I run the command
dism /online /cleanup-image /spsuperseded to clean up winsxs folder in windows 2008 SP2.I got message /online command works only in windows 2008 r2,and in windows 2008 sp2 it needs to be run in offline, can any one give idea how i run this command
in windows 2008 sp2

Hello,
Firstly, please keep in mind that WinSXS folder is an important directory that keeps the shadow copy of the important system files, which gets changed during any installation of Patches or Updates or software. With the use of WinSXS Folder all system files
can be reverted back to the stage where it was before installation of Patch/Update. Hence, it’s not wise to wipe the WinSxS folder.
Secondly, just like the warning message suggested, DISM can only be used in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 (Not in Windows Vista or in Windows Server 2008). For Windows Server 2008 SP2 or Windows Vista SP2, there is tool called Windows Component Clean
Tool (COMPCLN.EXE).
Refer to: Windows Component Clean Tool
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd351467(v=WS.10).aspx#BKMK_COMPCLN
•Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 1:  VSP1CLN.EXE
•Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2:  Compcln.exe
•Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1:  DISM /online /Cleanup-Image /SpSuperseded or Disk Cleanup Wizard (cleanmgr.exe)

  • Add additional IP to Windows 2008 SP2 Cluster

    Dears,
    I have a 2 node SQL 2008 Cluster 64bit (non r2) on Windows 2008 SP2 64bit (non r2) Server.
I need to add additional IP (different subnet) to the Cluster Quorum Resource.
Kindly guide me the steps to add the IP ?
    Thanks
    Tariq

    HI Tim,
Well we need more than one IP address on the Cluster (Quorum) for our replication to work as for some reason we cannot use the production IP which is currently configured for this Cluster.
Further if you are doing multi-site cluster with different subnet then you may need two IP with different subnet on the cluster (not for services or application)
I found this usefull command and it worked on the win 2008 sp2 (non r2) server:
    C:\>cluster . res "FS IP Address" /create /group:"file server" /type:"IP Address" /priv address=192.168.1.106 subnetmask=255.255.255.0
For win 2008 r2 servers there is powershell command through which we can achieve the same.. :)
it took me hard time to figure out that "failoverclusters" module will not work for win2008 SP2 server.. !!
    Thanks

  • Upgrade ASM Oracle 10.2.0.4.0 to ASM Oracle 11G R2 on Windows 2008 SP2

Please advice on procedure or where I can find information on upgrading ASM from Oracle 10G to Oracle 11G R2 (Winwdows 2008 SP2 64bit environment) for mutiple Oracle instances (not a RAC environrment).
The current scenario is as follow:
    - Two oracle homes; one for ASM instance and another for the Oracle Databases (in current case only two oracle instances possiblly more at a later time). Both (ASM and Oracle databases) have the same version of Oracle 10.2.4.0.
The Oracle database home can't be upgraded due to application restricition (Vendor Application not tested on Oracle 11G) but will like to upgrade the ASM instance to Oracle 11G (Oraclle 11G R2).
    Questions:
    - Is is a feasable solution? Can I upgrade ASM instance to Oracle 11G R2 to take advantage of new features? Will the ASM upgrade scenario is compatible with the Oracle Database Instance running Oracle 10G? Any possible issues that I should be aware or concerns?
Is it possible to have ASM running in Oracle 11G R2 and service the need of Oracle database instance running in 10G?
Please advice or where I can obtained information on the matter. Also possibly if someone has done it on Windows 2008 SP2 (not Windows 2008R2).
    Thanks in advance

Thanks so I can upgrade the ASM Home instance and leave the Oracle Databases home on Oracle 10.2.0.4.
I agree with you not just 100%, actually 120%. Fortunately, the vendor is finally understanding by pressure provided by DBAs and Application Teams that they are very behind the curve. It is working and by summer we should have an oracle 11G compatible product.
The same thought went when I was told of their compatability database level.

  • Problems using SQL Server 2014 upgrade advisor on a windows 2008 sp2 server

I got sql server 2014 upgrade advisor up and running on a windows 2012 vm and every thing works fine, but I am having trouble installing it locally for a SSRS Box. The SSRS box is running windows 2008 sp2 enterprise edition, but when I try
and run the SQLUA.msi install nothing happens.
    anyone else experience this issue?

    Hi jesse,
    Welcome to the forum :-)
Can you please clarify your issue in more details. I did not understand what you are doing. What do you mean by "installing it locally for a SSRS Box". Do you mean that you are trying a simple installation which do not work, and raise an error?
If so then (1) we dont need the extra information about "why you need the SQL Server" :-) we just need to help you install it regardless the SSRS. (2) We do need the full error log and the error message that you get.
By the way, The SQLUA.msi is just a small utilities named "Upgrade Advisor"
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms144256.aspx
Do you want to install the SQL Server itself?
What is your current SQL Server on the local windows 2008 server?

    Hi Viet,
Based on your description, the issue seems to be caused by that you associate a folder path with a drive letter
by using the SUBST command. Would you please open a command prompt and type
SUBST command, then check if there has substituted drive letters.
    For more details of
Subst command, please refer to following TechNet article.

If any update, please feel free to let us know.
    Hope this helps.

    Hello,
I've been working on this a simillar case since a month!!
I don't want you to wate your time!
AD2008 Standard is not supported.....this is it!!
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/nac/appliance/support_guide/agntsprt.html#wp103186
Cisco said it is not tested for 2008 standard, but beleive me, with this TAC case opened for a month, and no answer from the development team till now! You better try 2008 Enterprise.
I tried AD2008 Enterprise R2, and it works like magic!
    Hope this will help.

  • Oracle 10205 on Windows 2008 SP2 certified?

I was able to install 10205 on Windows 2008 R2 using their special instructions, but can't seem to find Oracle statement that it can be installed on Windows 2008 SP1/SP2?

    Hi,
Yes. The 10.2.0.5 patchset is not specific to a Windows version (it's a general rule for the patches/patchsets under Windows). The only distinction is 32 bits / 64 bits in this case.
There was a particularity for the base release to be used for Windows 2008 but you noticed it.
    Best regards

  • Is there any command for Windows 2008 that is similar to Get-GPOReport for Windows 2008R2?

I'm trying to export the GPO into an xml file for a network that we only have 2008 servers for, but I have tried the Get-GPOReport in power shell on another network, and I'm trying to obtain the same information. Is there a similar command? Thanks

    Hi baskervi,
Based on my knowledge, the Windows Powershell command-line can be running on Windows Server 2008 R2. However, please note:
The command-line can be running on Windows Server 2008 R2 on a domain controller.
The command-line can be running on Windows Server 2008 R2 on a member server that has the GPMC installed.
You must use the import-module grouppolicy command to import the Group Policy module before you use the Group Policy cmdlets.
For more information, please refer to the following articles:
Group Policy Cmdlets in Windows PowerShell
Dude, where’s my GPO? Using PowerShell to find all of your Group Policy links.
In addition, it would be helpful if you could help to collect the following information:
What did you mean by another network?
Did you got any error message when you run GPOReport in powershell on Windows Server 2008 R2?

  • Installing Oracle 10g on Windows 2008 SP2 64bits

    Hello,
I downloaded this version: 10204_vista_w2k8_x64_production_db. The setup starts fine, I set the location for the Oracle Home directory to (C: \oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1), click next, the setup continue and then stop with the following message: "the name Oracle home directory is invalid. Oracle home directory can not exceed 128 characters ....>> (translate from french)
    Other info:
    - I set the local administrator account on the machine
    - I downloaded twice the archive (I thought it was corrupt)
    - This install was within a VMWare VM, I tried on a physical W2K8 server and same message popup
    - The latest Windows update are installed on the server
    - I searched on Google but people who have encountered this problem had indeed spaces or invalid characters in the path.
    I really don't what I did wrong.
    Thank you for your help.

The setup starts fine, I set the location for the Oracle Home directory to (C: \oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1), Create this directory manually, and try using the browse button on the installer in order to select this directly.

  • How to get Systemstate Backup size using PowerShell command in Windows 2008 R2

    Hi,
We using WBSummary command to get completed backup status.
I need to find how much data is backed up  using powerShell command .
Is there any way to get the details , i can see the GUI but no in command.
    Please advise
    Regards Gopi K

    Hi,
You mentioned that you can see the system state backup size in the GUI. Does the backup size mean the amount of date transferred?
It seems that there is no such a PowerShell to get Systemstate Backup size. You may need to you need a PowerShell scripts to do this work.

  • SQL Server Reporting Services won't start - SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 on Windows 2008 SP2

All has been fine for some time, this server runs SQL and SSRS.
Recently reporting service says it starts, then stops.  No changes of which I am aware.
This is in the application log:
Service cannot be started. System.Exception: Default appdomain failed to initialize.
       at Microsoft.ReportingServices.Library.ServiceAppDomainController.Start()
       at Microsoft.ReportingServices.Library.ReportService.OnStart(String[] args)
       at System.ServiceProcess.ServiceBase.ServiceQueuedMainCallback(Object state)
I've tried changing the account to a domain admin, just to see - but it doesn't help.
    Thoughts?  Help?

    Hi BlakeDuffey,
Generally, we may see the error messge "Default appdomain failed to initialize" in the application log when try to start Reporting Services if the RSreportserver.config file has been modified unexpectedly. At this time, I suggest that you back up your
current RSreportserver.config file, and then check the config file referring to the following article:
    RSReportServer Configuration File
Note: The RSReportServer.config is located in the <drive>:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS10_50.MSSQLSERVER\Reporting Services\ReportServer folder.
If you cannot find the exceptions in the RSreportserver.config file, please post the config file so that we can help you to check it.
Meanwhile, please also check the Reporting Services Log file to see if there are any error messages related to the issue. If there are, please post the error messges as well. The Reporting Services Log file is located in the <drive>:\Program Files\Microsoft
    SQL Server\MSRS10_50.MSSQLSERVER\Reporting Services\LogFiles folder.
    Hope this helps.

  • Windows Server 2008 SP2 stops responding as multiple services timeout

There is another thread open under the "General" section. I was asked to post it here. I have left the other thread open because I believe this is not just applicable to the Remote Desktop Services Role. (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winservergen/thread/94b0d7f7-6a26-4795-8c1f-ffee1ac309aa/)
    Hey everyone,
I have now seen this issue happen on multiple Windows Server 2008 Terminal server setups. The services that time out are not exactly the same across all the servers, but a number of them are the same on all of them.
Here are the lists of services that timed out on one of these servers, along with the time it happened.
80237AM - A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the AudioEndpointBuilder service.
80307AM - A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the BITS service.
80237AM - A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the CertPropSvc service.
80407AM - A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the CryptSvc service.
80437AM - A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the Netman service.
80507AM - A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the NlaSvc service.
80537AM - A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the RasMan service.

Doing some research, I cam across this KB article (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/972596/), but not sure if it applies to this situation. I have seen
other people post about this issue, but haven't come across anything that states the cause and resolution.
Has anyone else faced this or is facing it at the moment?
Any tips or suggestions would be great!
    Thanks a lot!

There is another thread open under the "General" section. I was asked to post it here. I have left the other thread open because I believe this is not just applicable to the Remote Desktop Services Role.
