DISM / SFC

dism / sfc do not work.
sfc returns the following, Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation. (stops at 2%)
dism returns Error 0x800f081f.
Any info and when may be resolved.

Additionally, not using the /source and /limitaccess switches will allow Windows to use Windows Update as a repair source, which would work in the scenario where you have corruption related to payload that isn't in the installation media (install.wim).
You can still use the install.wim file as your repair source (network share, flashdrive, etc...), but it would need to be continually updated with the same updates that your PCs have by using the DISM command.  Just adding this info, since I'm not
sure which scenario is more applicable to your environment.

  • Maverick runs slow.. the following solution work for me

Launch Terminal and enter the following command:
    sudo nano /etc/auto_master
Enter an admin password when requested, then find the line that says “/net -hosts ….” looking something like this:
    /net -hosts -nobrowse,hidefromfinder,nosuid
Use the arrow keys to navigate to the front of that string, and then place a # (pound sign) in front of the / to signify that it has been commented out, it should now look something like this:
    #/net -hosts -nobrowse,hidefromfinder,nosuid
The modified /etc/auto_master file should now look like this, the #/net has been highlighted:
Now hit Control+O to save the file, then Control+X to exit out of the nano text editor and return back to the command line.
Now you must flush the automount cache, so type the following command string:
    sudo automount -vc
Now you should be good to go, so exit out of Terminal and try to access any Open, Save, or Export dialog box window again. The slowness should be gone completely, and you’ll be back to speedy file interactions through the dialog windows as expected.
This bug has been encountered and reported enough that we can assume a solution from Apple is likely to be due in a future OS X Mavericks update, be it 10.9.1 or otherwise. If you do use this automount workaround, remember to remove the # from the /net entry in auto_mount if and when an official bug fix arrives from Apple.

    Thank you.
I am not going to try again with 10049.
I tried using the Install.esd from RecoveryImage folder and it busted my Win10TP partition claiming I did not have enough space to finish. I had 13 GB available at the time, and I had less than that when I did the same thing on 10041before they released
    the ISO.
In the process, I had to remove the dual boot Win10TP partition, recreate a new partition, clean install 10041with the ISO , then upgraded back to 10049.
I had enough  excitement for a while.
One last comment I would like to make......
MS has been warning us about using the beta version and said something like it is only for testing by computer well-versed users.
However, I would like to submit that for every
computer well-versed user, there are 10  who are just "regular" users. Just read the threads in these forums and you have the proof. Most of them do the straight upgrade via WU. Some wouldn't know where to find the ISO or the Install.esd.
We have this Dism /SFC issue since build 9841. SFC in particular is commonly used by all users, more so by "regular" users. Sfc is their basic, and sometimes the only, app to fix things.
MS should have it fixed by now ..... for majority of Win 10 TP users. No excuse they sit on their hands.

  • Sfc and Dism in Windows Tecnical Previews

I am looking for people to either agree or disagree my findings ...............
    1. From build 9841 to 9860:
Sfc /scannow will ALWAYs report " find corrupt files but unable to repair ".
Dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth will report "operation successful", but doing sfc right away will get "find corrupt files but unable to repair " message again.
So, either sfc is giving false negatives or Dism is not doing the job.
    1. Build 9879 :
Sfc still reports corrupt files but unable to repair, and Dism does not work at all.

We've all reported this via the Feedback App, I'm sure.
I just set up a brand spanking new VMware 11 VM with the Win 10 TP (not Enterprise).
At the very first appearance of the desktop I ran sfc /scannow.
Edit:  New screen grab with DISM failure showing too.
Now, I understand that these are pre-release builds, and we should expect some problems, but it strikes me that this is just sloppy / shoddy work by Microsoft.  Who's running the show and deems this kind of thing to pass muster and be sent
    out to the world?
Details matter.  Quality matters.  Engineering is a discipline.
But apparently not at Microsoft.  :(
Make no mistake - this is not just fluff.  We're expected to rely on the updating processes to deliver new versions of the pre-release software to us.  How is that possible to manage properly if the system doesn't even think it's sound?
I run a software engineering company myself.  If someone here released this kind of stuff - even for alpha testing - had customers report it, and failed to correct it or respond with a good reason why in the next two releases I'd consider
disciplinary action.  It is NOT acceptable.

Honestly this is something MS should check into. There should be an easier way for users to implement this command rather then a complete dictionary to fix broken windows files. This is a Microsoft windows problem. I know for myself I had to use this command
quite often because I installed something windows did not like. Because of that window files became unusable. It would make practical sense for Microsoft to incorporate a feature that runs these commands in administration tools.
    Run
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-image/ScanHealth
if that runs an error then run
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup
    then run
    dism /online /cleanup-image /retorehealth

Edit: Microsoft has to make a serious decision. During setup, Metro, or desktop. Installing items in desktop mode is creating errors in Metro or windows store items. In future upgrades consider the flavors of OS, implement a users
choice. Desktop, Metro, or classic. Face the facts if you follow Linux method of desktop, and the install process. There is no confusion between desktops and we have a choice. This makes common sense. I like the feature of gnome or Ubunto it gives
the user a choice and a better picture for Microsoft. Lets face it, Bill Gates choose to hand over his business to people. This gave Bill Gates time to help other people that need help. How about Microsoft do the same and give people the choice between
desktops during install. Follow Bill Gates important roll in his life now. Bring some fairness and happiness to people that like Microsoft and what to help users get what they want and the best support they need. Doing this allows Microsoft the glory
to help people feel good about themselves. Sure MS can live in a dictatorship roll and continue to bully users to use the product, there is a consequence to this. Good young developers are working on a better OS and this is going to happen. It is better
to help people then to fight people.

  • 2012 R2 Essentials Windows Update error 80072EE2 and Dism errors 0x800f0906 and 0x800f081f

Since 11/2014 our R2 Essentials server on ESXI has been unable to run Windows Update, returning error 80072EE2. I ran the Windows Update troubleshooter which claimed it fixed something, but Windows Update returned the exact same error again. There are no
proxies or Internet access problems. I have ensured no firewall is blocking Windows Update URLs. So I tried the
sfc /scannow command which reports a file that cannot be repaired:
    2015-01-12 20:56:41, Info CSI 00000801 [SR] Cannot repair member file [l:36{18}]"Amd64\CNBJ2530.DPB" of prncacla.inf, Version = 6.3.9600.16384, pA = PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_AMD64 (9), Culture neutral, VersionScope = 1 nonSxS, PublicKeyToken = {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35}, Type = [l:24{12}]"driverUpdate", TypeName neutral, PublicKey neutral in the store, hash mismatch
For this error others suggested running dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth which on my server tells me "The component store is repairable." So next I run
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth which instantly returns the same result that it is repairable. Next I run
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth thinking this will fix it, but it returns this error: "Error 0x800f0906 source files could not be downloaded".
Articles suggest I use a different source, so I mount the R2 Essentials DVD used to install this server to drive letter Z: and use this command:
    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:Z:\sources\sxs /LimitAccess
This results in the error "Error 0x800f081f source files could not be found" and so I copy the sources\sxs folder locally to C: and re-run the last command pointing to this new location. I get the same error.
I have run chkdsk and I have tried rebooting between each of the above commands, which did not work. I have run all these commands as Administrator.
Does anyone know what I do next? I see references to these errors with several users attempting to install .NET framework but those solutions do not apply to my situation.
As a next step I considered uninstalling the last successfully installed Windows update (KB3011780) on this machine in case it broke something. Thoughts?

    Hi,
Please refer to following KB and reset Windows Update components, then check if can help you to solve this issue.
How do I reset Windows Update components?
In addition, did you check relevant log files (such as: DISM.log, CBS.log or others) whether find more clues?
If any update, please feel free to let me know.
    Hope this helps.
    Best regards,
    Justin Gu

    Hello
Windows 8.1 Pro 32-Bit Media Center ASUS P5G41T-M LE Ram 4GB

  • DISM gives Error 11

I have been running MS systems since you needed to 5-1/4' floppies to boot them. I know the difference between 32-bit and 64-bit systems. This one has me a bit frazzled.
When I run Dism.exe, I consistently get the following error:
Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
    Version: 6.3.9600.17031
    Error: 11
You cannot service a running 64-bit operating system with a 32-bit version of DISM.
Please use the version of DISM that corresponds to your computer's architecture.
The DISM log file can be found at C:\WINDOWS\Logs\DISM\dism.log
It's obvious that the command that's loading is the 32-bit version. I scanned the hard drive and found several versions of DISM.exe. Each time I get the same error, regardless of which DISM.exe I execute. Each time I was in an "elevated" cmd environment.
I even tried going into Powershell and running it. Same problem. I have checked the path, just to be sure. sysWOW64 appears before system32 in the path variable.  I have tried running dism.exe from each individual location on the drive, just to make sure
the "local" command is/was being executed. Same error.
The reason for this is that sfc /scannow found some corrupted files it could not repair. I wanted to run the DISM command, then rerun the sfc command.
Where can I find the 64-bit version of dism.exe? It should be on the hard drive somewhere or at least you would think so.
I also tried running Powershell and the Repair-WindowsImage -Online -RestoreHealth.  It failed with a similar error.
Outside of these commands, I will likely have to restore Windows 8.1 and start over.
What prompted all this was the laptop started doing some flaky things. For example, when you try to open a cmd environment, the system would just stall and restart explorer.exe after a few minutes. This happened repeatedly. I was finally able to get a cmd
environment to open from the directory where the command is located. After that, it worked flawlessly. Similar things were happening trying to run other commands/features. This all started after installation of one of the MS security patches.
At this point, wiping the system and starting with a clean slate may be the best option.
Oh - system running Windows 8.1, latest patches. HP Laptop 750GB HD, 6GB RAM, i3 processor.

Okay... don't take this wrong, but "I didn't fall off the truck yesterday"!  I will admit that I had not tried the solution you suggested, but I do know how to open a command environment, etc. I tried your suggestion and that's when I got
the message below - "Access denied".
I think I have found the root cause of this problem:
I started perusing the system in general. I checked everything from A to Z. Then, it hit me when I got an error message "Access Denied..." message.
I checked my access to the system and found that my account (not the System Administrator account) had been changed from an Administrator to a Standard User. That's easy enough to fix. WRONG! I logged in as the Administrator and found that I could no longer
change an account from a Standard to an Administrator role. How this happened, I do not know. I have not gotten any viruses or malware - I check every week with Norton, then Malwarebytes. I know some things can get by one product, but there is a slim chance
that it would get by two products. But, I digress...
I checked the Administrator access to the suspect folders. The Administrator account has NO access to the Windows folder. I have full access to the "C" drive, but ZERO access almost all the subsequent folders. Yes, I can list folder contents, etc.
But, I cannot change anything. For example, the c:\windows folder is set to Read Only. Just for grins, I tried to change it... wouldn't allow it.
I did find that the only account that has FULL access to everything is the TrustedInstaller account. Sounds suspicious...
Okay, while still logged in as Administrator, I went to Control Panel>User Accounts>Manage Another Account and tried to change my "usual" account from a Standard User to an Administrator User. It won't let me, as the Administrator Role/User
is greyed out. Mind you, this is from the Administrator account to another user.
I found several instances of this on the internet. I have tried the "fixes" I found, but thus far it has been a "no go." I am beginning to think the only way out of this is a system refresh, i.e., backup all my files and re-install the
    OS.
I am going to give this one final shot from a "clean boot" with network access. If that doesn't work, I am looking at a backup and reload.
    Any ideas/suggestions will apprecisted.

  • H8-1520t: sfc /scannow reported file corruption in Windows 8.1

My computer (h8-1520t) computer had had file corruption error reported by sfc /scannow.
The corruption was rather common corruption as discovered elsewhere on the internet.  The corruption pertained to prncacla.inf and it was repaired only by using DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth.  The corruption occured while the computer was doing automatic maintenance which locked up my system.  After forcing a shutdown and rebooting, I immediately ran sfc /scannow and that's when the corruption was first detected.
Now sfc /scannow finds no corruption and automatic maintence runs to completion.
Since this is a rather common corruption error and there's no explanation as to what causes the problem, should I send my computer, which it's still under warranty, back to HP ---or--- did I corrected the corruption properly ? ? ?
On additional question: What on earth causes that common corruption to occur anyway.
Also: UEFI diagnostics extensively run and the extensive testing revealed no problems with system board, hard drive, memory, processor (i7-3770), graphics card memory (Radeon HD 8570).
If I should be concerned about my computer being a dud and lemon, I'd like to know... Or, did I fix the corruption correctly?
    Thanks,

  • DISM restorehealth error 14098

We have a windows server 2012 box that is hosted remotely. I've been trying to install a security patch and the windows update component appears to be corrupted. The error code i'm getting is 80073712. It will download the updates but fails to install them.
Installing manually with msu file doesn't work either. So far the steps i've taken are
run the microsoft fix it tools. It says that it fixed the problems, but then it just fails again.
Rename/delete the SoftwareDistribution folder in the windows folder
Use the Dism command to try and repair it- dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth This cause an error 14098. The component store has been corrupted
Used the equivalent command in powershell
I downloaded a server 2012 iso directly from microsoft and mounted it to try and use the /source switch to repair using the iso. Now I haven't really seen a lot of good examples of what the syntax should be for this. This is the command i was trying to
    use:
    DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth /source:wim:D:\sources\install.wim:2
2 is the index number for server standard, which is what we are running. I get the same result, error 14098
Now i also tried this in powershell with this command:
Repair-WindowsImage -Online -RestoreHealth -Source:Wim:D\Sources\install.com:2. I get an error stating the component store is corrupted.
So i'm not sure where to go from this point. I don't even know if i have the syntax right for it to use the install disk as the source file. Any help is appreciated. If there is some other method i haven't thought about maybe

    Hi BradSwink1,
Could you try to use elevated command prompt to run sfc /scannow and dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth, most times the corrupt files may cause the

  • SFC and System Restore errors on Surface Pro 3 running Win 8.1

Yesterday evening, my boss sent me an email complaining about problems mapping network drives (Server 2008r2) and connecting to the office LAN after setting up offline files. He tried troubleshooting to no avail. I suggested SFC.exe and/or a systems

  • How to include a KB Update into a WIM in order to point to the WIM when using DISM (details inside)?

Hi, I was told in another of the forums that my issue
is best suited for the TechNet audience.  Previously, I posted it here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-system/how-to-include-a-kb-update-into-a-wim-in-order-to/e7015076-b4a9-4862-a73b-6c58b4c82461?tm=1409598696763
I've been struggling to fix a corrupted file.
Context:  I feel that something is not right with the computer, so I started poking around.
I used "sfc /scannow" from an elevated command prompt and the result was:
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log <var style="border:0px;margin:0px;padding:0px;vertical-align:top;-webkit-font-smoothing:antialiased;">%WinDir%</var>\Logs\CBS\CBS.log.
I looked in the log.  This message appears 4 times:
    Cannot repair member file [l:36{18}]"Amd64\CNBJ2530.DPB" of prncacla.inf, Version = 6.3.9600.16384, pA = PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_AMD64 (9), Culture neutral, VersionScope = 1 nonSxS, PublicKeyToken = {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35}, Type = [l:24{12}]"driverUpdate",
TypeName neutral, PublicKey neutral in the store, hash mismatch
There is also the following message:
This component was referenced by [l:186{93}]"Microsoft-Windows-Printer-Drivers-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.3.9600.16384.INF_prncacla"
I'm not positive what to do next, but I have been led to believe the problem is that Flash files in version 6.3.9600.16407 are corrupted, that I need to find which KB updates Flash to this version, download the file, add it to a new WIM, and point
to it when using DISM.  I'm not positive this is correct, but it was suggested.
I downloaded the KB update: kb2889543, but I do not know how to add it to a new WIM or what the repercussions of doing so will be (e.g. Will I lose everything and have to restore my documents, etc from my external drive by doing this?).
So, the question is: How can I include a KB Update into a WIM and tell me what the result will be when once I do and point to it when using DISM?
Secondarily, if this is a bad way to move forward with the issue, would some kind soul offer sage advise on how to move forward with resolving the original issue?

    Hi TTQSTTQS,
As you mentioned in the answers forum, when run  the command DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth,  we received the error message “The source files could not be downloaded. Use the "source" option to specify the
location of the files that are required to restore the feature”.
When run the command Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:c:\test\mount\windows /LimitAccess, we met the same error message.
I think there are some mistakes in the source setting, so we meet the same error messages.
As I mentioned in the last reply, we need a mounted image as a repair source, and then use this path.
We need to configure a Windows repair source. Please refer to the following article.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh825020.aspx
Please refer to the following steps to set the source image.
    1. Assign Drive Letters to Partitions by Windows PE.
    2. Capture Partition Images using DISM
For more information, please refer to the following article.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh825072.aspx
    Then, we could try the command Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:c:\test\mount\windows /LimitAccess.

  • "SFC /VERIFYFILE" doesn't work. Is it a BUG?

    Hello to all.
    Original topic: hxxp://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-performance/sfc-verifyfile-doesnt-work-is-it-a-bug/17542cd5-1eee-4cb1-948c-d9ff68267e3a
I found that SFC /VERIFYFILE doesn't work on my machine.
I can't know if it doesn't work on each Windows 8/8.1 machine.
I saw this when I was trying to verify a well-known file prone to corruption (it is at least an year that this keeps to corrupt itself):
    CNBJ2530.DPB.
That file becomes corrupt for unknown reasons, from time to time.
Usually you can find Windows corrupt files through SFC /SCANNOW, wait for about
half hour and check the CBS.LOG.
Given that the corrupt file is always THAT, I decided to try SFC /VERIFYFILE (few months ago), to save time.
To my surprise, it didn't work:
    sfc /verifyfile=C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_prncacla.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.3.9600.17415_none_95dd5540d57f8c01\Amd64\cnbj2530.dpb
Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.
(Italian: Protezione risorse di Windows: impossibile eseguire l'operazione richiesta.)
Yes, I used an elevated command prompt.
Yes, I've tried with double quotes... And single quotes, too.
The questions are: Doesn't it work just for me? Or Doesn't it work for everybody?
Thanks in advance for any replies and/or
    confirmations.
Operating System: Windows 8.1 x64 update
    1.
    - I changed the Windows font size from Control Panel\Appearance and Personalisation\Display, change the size of all items, larger (150%).
    - I changed the setting NX=AlwaysOn
    (DEP always on), by:
    bcdedit /set {current} nx
    AlwaysOn
    - I modified the default rules of the
firewall (I exported the standard criteria
and saved in a file), created my
own rules, blocked all outgoing connections
    (except those I created with
    my rules).

    Hi xiolee,
    Apologize for the late reply.
I think SFC command have its own usage (mostly it should be good to fix the files that needed to boot Windows), and not for all the repair of the component store files. Those files are considered repairable using DISM command, which is told in the blog below:
Fixing component store corruption in Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012
    For SFC command, please check:
Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files
    System File Checker
    For Winsxs folder, see:
    WinSxS
I run the command and receive the same error,
    Best regards

  • Issues with Windows 8.1 - ran SFC / SCANNOW

    Hello -
I am having issues with my Windows 8.1 PC. Audio Services are not running and Control Panel / Window Update takes a long time to come up, if it does even). I tried all the normal items (Safe mode etc) but not resolution.
I did the sfc / scannow and it came back with "Cannot repair member file " among other things.
Any suggestions? My system restore points are too recent to go back to where it was ok.

Got this error when I ran DISM:

  • Error 193, running DISM in Windows after images is applied

    Hi
I have an issue with dism on a new image I have applied to multiple computers. I had planed to run a dism command in a script, but no matter what dism command I try to run I get
Error 193. It is on Windows 7 Professional x64 bit.
In C:\Windows\Logs\Dism\dism.log I get an error saying:
DismHostLib: Failed to create dismhost.exe servicing process.
Any ideas on what is causing this failure?

    Hi,
This article may helpful to you:
    http://www.advancedpctweaker.com/exe-errors/DismHost.exe.html
By the way, did this issue only occur when you run the script? Could you use DISM within command?
Try to run SFC /Scannow also:

    Hope that helps.
