Disney's Winnie the Pooh Preschool

Hi all. Not sure if this is the place to discuss problems with the Classic environment or not but here goes.
I just picked up an old product - a brand new Winnie the Pooh KidzMouse. It came with the Winnie the Pooh Preschool software from 1999. I thought it would run on my iMac 400 running OS X 10.4.6 under the Classic environment.
The software installs fine and puts me into a folder where there is an icon titled "Play Pooh Preeschool". When I try to open this icon it opens up Quicktime in OS X with a black window. This icon is actually an alias to a file named "PoohP.Mac". A Get Info on this file tells me it is a MacPaint Image File instead of a Classic Application. Under Version: it says, "8.0r178, Copyright 1985-2000 Macromedia, Inc. Director 8 Shockwave Studio.
Any ideas on how I get this game to actually launch?

Here's an update to my unhelpful comment.
I recently upgraded everything and now I'm running a dual 1Ghz G4 with 1.5 GB RAM. By coincidence my youngest lad asked to play the game in question today and I experienced your problem of being unable to open the program. I also kept getting Quicktime automatically trying to open the file when I clicked on the .mac labelled icon. The solution mentioned above is oddly complicated. It may work but why not, when you delete the old file ending, just tack on .app? Saves mucking around with script editors. With .app it opens. The game was played for an hour an we didn't experiance any crashes.
OS 9 is notorious for not handling RAM the way it should. With your 256 you can expect anything more complicated than Simpletext or the Calculator to crash. I was also told that if I expect to be running a lot of Classic programs it would be a good idea to partition your HD and have one section for OS 9. Not sure why... but that's what I've done and with my Giga and a half of RAM I've yet to crash and I usually run several graphics programs plus mail and browser at once on this thing.
Buy some RAM and forget copying the disk to your drive.

  • IBooks missing free Winnie-the-Pooh on iPod touch 4G iOS 4.2.1

First app I download on the new iPod touch 4G using iOS 4.2.1 was iBooks. App is fine but it doesn’t appear to include the free Winnie-the-Pooh. I have the same app on my iPhone with Winnie but that uses a different host machine, a different account, a different iTunes with different Apple ID so I don’t think that’s a factor in the missing book. I can manually download other books from the iBookstore but the colourful Winnie is missing. Tried deleting several times but each new load is missing Winnie. Any ideas?

Are you using the iBooks application but also did not receive the free book? If so, then I’m not alone and it may not be anything we can correct.
Several times deleted on the iPod and iTunes; repurchased and synced several times from iTunes. Same result. I just finished doing a complete Restore of the iPod software but the result is the same. Did another purchase through the App Store on the iPod instead of iTunes on the computer. Still missing Winnie.

  • Missing free version of 'Winnie-the-pooh' in ibook

I cannot find any free version of 'Winnie-the-pooh' from ibook after I upgrade the itune (now Ver.10) and iOS (now ver. 4.3.2).
Can I still find a copy of the book?
    Your kindest advice, please!

Your profile doesn't say where you are, but http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4059 says :
The availability of the complimentary book varies from country to country or region. If you misplaced your complimentary copy of "Winnie-the-Pooh," you may be able to redownload it for free from the iBookstore if the book is currently available in your country or region
If it's not on your bookshelf in iBooks, and you've tried searching for it via the Store button in the top left corner of iBooks and can't find it, then it may not be available in your country.

  • HT5953 How can an ibook selection be deleted so it no longer shows up?  I would like Winnie the Pooh gone.

How can I remove an iBook.  I want Winnie the Pooh gone.  Further, if I bought it, shouldn't I be able to toss it in the trash?

I'm beginning to notice that my disk space is getting limited on my external drive that Time Machine uses to do its backups. Is it possible to go into TimeMachine and delete individual items i.e., a movie etc. in order to regain disk space? If it does a back up of each movie or TV show, and at some point I no longer want/need them so I delete them, they are still on my TimeMachine Backup. I would like to also delete it from the Backup. Is that possible?

It's probably not a good idea to change anything in the TM file system. The data are not actually stored as files but for the first time. After that they are stored as "deltas" or changes. When TM restores a file, it uses the original and all the bits and pieces to recreate the most recent file. Disturbing the TM structure is dangerous.
TM will automatically start deleting old files when it gets full, so don't be concerned with filespace.
If any old files are on TM that you don't want it to delete, simply restore them, let TM back them up again, and TM will eventually delete the old original copies, leaving your new ones.
If you have a continual problem with the TM disk getting full, then you need a larger disk.

  • Lost Winnie the Pooh on sync

Upgraded my 8GB iPod Touch (bought it on August 2008 - so no idea whether its 2G or 3G)
Downloaded iBooks from App store via iPod ...it downloaded Winnie the Pooh as well...Later browsed through the iBook store and got some free books on the shelf. All well till here.
Later transferred some PDFs to iTunes from my Macbook...They got placd under Books in iTunes. Now conncected the iPod for sync and they did well too, except got a message 'Winnie the Pooh cannot be downloaded as it was purchased on iPod'...hence it didnt sync and I lost the book on iPod...Rest of the books and PDFs showed up on the shelf..
Also note that I am on same login id on my iPod store and on iTunes store..Do I need to download/purchase the book again via iTunes on my Macbook?

I think its a problem with the Indian App Store. It happened to me too, also the popup which asks for Sign-in for sync, keeps coming back no matter how many times you enter the password. It still asks you whether you want to "Continue" or "Don't Sync".
Its frustrating with partial implementation across the App Store (i.e. Podcasts directory is incomplete on iTunes.app on the device, etc.)

  • Redownload 'Winnie The Pooh'

Winnie The Pooh (book) comes pre-loaded on the iPad, but it's saved in some special folder within the iPad and isn't visible in the iTunes Media/books folder (on my Mac). So I deleted it from my iPad, then downloaded it again (for free) from the store. It now is saved on my computer as well as my iPad. Just in case they ever stop offering this for free, at least I have a copy I can get to should this iPad die.

This is not an answer but a comment.
This is the dirty little secret. There is no iBooks technical support. iBooks only works through iPad. I have had a similar problem "redownloading" a purchased book. I receive "unknown error has occurred" message with any number. No one at Apple knows (or care) how to solve this problem. iBooks is a subset of iTunes but no one is authorized to solve these problems.
Try asking for a refund of a purchased book that you no longer have access to because of this problem and you will be told "I am not authorized to do that."
I see this being reported in this forum, but I see no answsers or solutions yet. Let me know if you solve the redownload problem.

  • I-Books missing "Winnie-the-Pooh"...

    Hi Folks,
So I downloaded the I-Books application today but was surprised that it didn't come with a copy of "Winnie-the-Pooh". I heard that this book was supposed to come with the application.
Anyways, I did a search on Books and found that the only copy of "Winnie-the-Pooh" is going for $10.
Can someone clarify this for me. And if "Winnie-the-Pooh" is still a free download can you provide me with the link.
    Thanks a bunch.

Hi I need some help with Winni-the-Pooh too...
I've found the book in the purchased items, when I click on the "get book" it looks like the download is starting but then a message appears "You've already purchased this but it hasn't been downloaded. To download it, go to the Purchases and tap Redownload." Now... I go to the Purchases, and there's no Redownload button available for this book, only the "get book" which loops back to the same error message.
I deleted the iBook apps and reinstalled, also tried to get it directly from the store again, no luck, same error message...
    Thank you for any help.

  • Winnie the Pooh

The free "Winnie the Pooh" iBook that came with the iPad does not sync to my iTunes Library when I do my back up; even when I "Transfer Purchases". Has anyone else noticed this?
I downloaded another free iBook, "The Time Machine" and it was synced to my iTunes Library without a problem.
    Thanks,
    Marcus

Apparently it by design doesn't transfer. If you lose it, you can download again for free from the iBookstore. From the iPad FAQ:
"If you misplace your complimentary copy of "Winnie-the-Pooh," you can download it for free from the iBookstore. If the complimentary book that came with iBooks is not available from the iBookstore, delete the iBooks app from your iPad, then redownload iBooks to receive a new copy of the complimentary book."

  • Missing Winnie-the-Pooh in iBooks on iPod touch 4G iOS 4.2.1

Just received a new iPod touch (for my wife) and first app I downloaded was iBooks. Unfortunately, the free Winnie-the-Pooh book does not appear on the bookshelf. I have tried several times with same result. I have downloaded the iBooks app from iTunes on my Powerbook and from the App Store on the iPod touch. Still missing. I have iBooks working well on my iPhone.
When I first connected the iPod touch to the computer, I was using my Apple ID; I created a new Apple ID for my wife’s use; after deauthorizing and authoring the computer in iTunes, I did a restore of the iPod touch software in case the change of Apple IDs was the problem but saw the same results.
I should add the iBookstore works fine and I am able to purchase other books. Only other thing I can think of is to trash and reinstall iTunes itself but hope to avoid that. Any suggestions welcome!

The recent release of iBooks 1.2.1 has corrected the problem of the missing Dutton edition of Winnie-the-Pooh. It may have been there with the previous install of iBooks but it would never display in the bookshelf. After updating iBooks to 1.2.1, the Dutton version (the one included with iBooks) suddenly appeared on the bookshelf. So it was a software glitch after all and not a fix Apple chose to document explicitly in the update.

  • No Winnie the Pooh or PDF support for iBooks

I have an iPod touch 64GB 3rd generation model.
Installed the iBooks app. No Winnie the Pooh and no PDF tab.
    What gives?

I did exactly as you said, and I see the "Books" section in iTunes with my PDFs, but the iBooks app does not have a PDF tab.
I verified the "Books" tab in iTunes and I have the following:
    [X] Sync Books
    (*) Selected books
    Books:
    [X] (assorted PDF titles)
It is notable that the Device section for the iPod in iTunes does show the Books category with my PDFs; I just can't find them in the iPod itself.
    Thanks for your help,
    -dZ.

  • What happened to the free Winnie the Pooh in iBooks?

I no longer have Winnie the Pooh on my iPad.  I didn't delete it, but it's no longer there.  A search of the store gives zero results for Winnie the Pooh.  What happened?  Did Apple just yank it all of a sudden?

Open iTunes. Click iTunes Store in the Store section on the left. From the tabs at the top, click Books. Then in the list of choices on the right, click Purchased (New).
When it comes up it will show tabs for your purchases. In the Books tab, it should show Winnie-the-Pooh if you downloaded it. (It shows up for me.) At the upper right, click Not in My Library and you should be able to download it.

  • Does the iBooks app for iPad still come with the free Winnie the Pooh ebook?

Go into the iBook store, search for Winnie the pooh and download it.
    It is free.

  • Can't play Disney Pirates of the Caribbean game.

Since installing Firefox 4, when we try to play Disney Pirates of the Caribbean game, Firefox says "Firefox prevented installing of the Panda 3D extension." We click allow and follow the directions. We follow alll the prompts, but it keeps sending us through the same loop that says it will install when we restart. Firefox shows the extension as installed and enabled, but each time we try to play it prompts us to install. Any help?

I managed to fix this by manually installing the Panda 3D extension.
Go to [[www.panda3d.org]] and download the latest end user runtime extension:
After downloading, run the installation program.
Now Disney Pirates of the Caribbean should work as expected.
Tested on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit with Firefox 4.01.

After going through the set up I am getting the green light on the airport extreme, but it will not connect to the internet.
    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
I have my internet either cable coming out of the modem and plugged into AP Extreme. If I plug the cable directly into the back of the iMac I can access the internet that way with no issies.
Is that cable connected to a broadband modem? If so, when switching what device is connected to that, you should power down that modem for several minutes, then power it back up. Without this process, some modems will refuse to connect to a different device.
I had to configure my Network preferences, and turned on the Airport2 (for some reason when I try to turn on Airport it will not turn on.
There are ways to reset all that, but first let's try to get things to work.
Any ideas why?). So I get an error code that pops up stating that I do not have a good IP address. The address for the router is 10.0.1.1 and the IPv4 address is showing 10.0.1.2.
The IP address of what? (Where do you see that?)
The error box that pops up states: 10.0.1.1 in use by 90:84:0d:d3:7a:5b.
The value starting with "90" is a "MAC address" (not to be confused with "Mac", i.e. "Macintosh"). That address is in a range assigned to Apple. Apple calls a MAC address assigned to a WiFi interface an "AirPort ID". You can identify the AirPort ID of an AirPort Extreme either from the value embossed on the case or in AirPort Utility. You can identify the AirPort ID of a Mac either in the Network panel of System Preferences (select the AirPort connection item, then click on the Advanced button) or in System Profiler (Apple menu -> About This Mac, More Info, Contents -> Network, Active Services -> AirPort, Ethernet: MAC Address).
Where do you see that message? What is running at the time?
