How can I not have sufficient privileges? but when I drag the firefox program to the applications folder I always get this message from the firefox program. "you don't have sufficient privileges to open firefox" What is going wrong to prevent me from updating my firefox?

    See:
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > General : Accessibility : [ ] "Warn me when web sites try to redirect or reload the page"
The setting in "Tools > Options > Advanced > General" is meant as an accessibility feature, as you can see by the label of that section, so that people with disabilities or people who use screen readers do not get confused and is not meant as a safety protection to stop redirecting.

  • When I try to download the update to iTunes, I get an error message "Verify that you have sufficient privileges to stat system services",

When I try to download theupdate to iTunes, it goes through all the steps until the final one, then I get an error message "Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services", then the download stops. Any ideas on how to rectify this?

    Hello Skeandhu,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with updating iTunes.  You may want try downloading the latest iTunes update directly from the Apple site.  When you are installing it, be sure you are logged in as an administrator:
    iTunes - Download

If you continue to see the same error, I recommend the steps in the following article:

It won't let me upgrade to newest version of Firefox...it's telling me I don't have sufficient privileges for some of the items. Why?

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop

  • HT1923 i couldn't open itunes so it suggested i uninstall and reinstall. when i go to reinstall a message comes up that i don't have sufficient privileges to start system services.

i found that i couldn't open itunes on my home computer so the website suggested i uninstall and reinstall the program. i uninstalled it then tried to reinstall and an error box comes up that says to verify i have sufficient privileges to start system services. I'm not sure what this means or how to fix it so i can finish the installation process.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • Can't upgrade Firefox--don't have "sufficient privileges"

    Hi all,
I'm trying to upgrade Firefox on my PowerBook G4 running 10.4.7 from 1.0.6 to 1.5.4... I download the .dmg, open it up, drag the Firefox icon to my Applications folder.
I get a pop up asking me if I want to replace the existing file. I say yes, replace.
Then I get the following message:
"The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items."
This is particularly bizarre since I have permission to administer my computer.
I've already tried "Repair Permissions"--no change.
Does anyone have any idea what might be going wrong?
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Did you have Firefox running at the time you tried to replace it? That could easily prevent you from updating, as it may not permit you to overwrite or replace files that are in use. If that was the case, quit Firefox, then try replacing it with the new version.
Or, try renaming Firefox to Firefox 1.5.4 and putting it in your Applications folder. Then on your next reboot, you can move the old one to the Trash, drag it's icon off the Dock, and drag the icon for the new version to the Dock.

  • Why won't Firefox 6 transfer to app folder, says I don't have sufficient privileges for some of the items?

I've tried to download the most current Firefox and it downloaded but I can't save it to my apps or use it due to this error message:
"The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items." Not sure what to do now?

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac.

  • Newly downloaded version icon won't drag into Applications folder because I "don't have sufficient privileges" - what does that mean & how do I fix it?!

I opened a new window in Firefox, which was still open from last night. I saw the notice:
    URGENT!
Your version of Firefox is no longer protected against online attacks.
Get the upgrade - it’s fast and free!
So, I clicked on the download which ran fine. At step 3, drag the Firefox icon to the Applications icon, a pop up said I didn't have sufficient privileges to do that.
What does this mean and how do I fix it?! Thank you,

  • When I try to put Firefox in my applications folder a message says I don't have sufficient "privileges" to do certain things.

I have a MacBook operation system 10.5.8. I have been using Safari and wanted to upgrade to the Firefox 6 version. I do have an older version of Firefox in my applications folder which I agreed to "replace" when queried. But when I tried to put the version 6 to replace the older version, that's when I get the message about not having sufficient privileges to do that. Please help. Thanks.

It is better to download a new copy of the Firefox program from:
    http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean reinstall.
Install the new version that you have downloaded.

  • I get an error message when i am downloading Itunes. It's the Apple mobile Device. It fails to start because i don't have sufficient privileges. What does that mean?

What do i have to do to get sufficent privileges?

Why does the title says "I get an error message when downloading Itunes" when you clearly do not?  The issue has nothing to do with downloading but rather installing of iTunes which is a seperate step.
Maybe if a search is performed for the real issue then a resolution will be found.

I'm trying to import an audio CD into iTunes, but I keep getting a message saying, "Error occurred while converting the file . . . You do not have the privilege to make changes." I've tried selecting all the different encoders, WAV, MP3 and AAC, and still nothing works.  I would appreciate the help.
