  • T43p LCD "dead" problem

Well, the LCD on this 5 or so year old laptop (Type 2668 RU3) finally gave up the ghost. It's been getting dimmer over the last year or so. Yesterday it was flickering a bit and today it's dark. I can see the image if I hold a bright light next to the screen (and I can use an external display, though the only one I have around the house is pretty low resolution and it's driving me nuts). I expect the backlight is shot (though maybe it's the inverter board?). In and case, a new part doesn't seem to be available fom Lenovo / IBM directly. I see a few suppliers out there seem to carry replacement LCDs for not all that much. (I've replaced the fan inside the laptop a few times and replaced the motherboard on an old R31, so I'm not all that intimidated by replacing the LCD on this one, though I'd rather not do it in the dead of winter with a ton of static in the air). A couple of questions though: first, how do I tell whether my existing screen is XGA or SXGA+? (I and make the icons really really tiny on the screen, or I used to be able to when I could see it); second, is it more likely that it's the backlight or the inverter that's shot and how might I be able to figure it out?; third, are any of these available replacement screens likely to be a good deal (i.e. are they likely to work ok?).
    Thanks,
    Bill

Your current screen is 14" SXGA+, and chances are that it needs a new backlight, inverter doesn't really have much to do with the problem that you're describing.
Make sure that you get a proper LCD with a FRU number, and not some type of "compatible" garbage from feebay, since you might blow the board using an improper LCD.

  • Season 3 E1 Walking Dead Problems

I preordered the Walking Dead Season 3 on Apple TV. I just went on to it to watch and there's nothing there. The premier was at 9 and it's not 12:30 with nothing happening. I've checked on multiple Apple TV's and it's not working. Any suggestions would be great.
    Thanks.

I always had to wait until Monday for the episode to download. I dont know if it will be available at 12:01 or not, I never stayed up to see with the last season. I hope it gets sent early but I wouldnt count on it.

Have you tried to restart the OEM Database Console service?I have tried to restart both the listener and the EM Console, but no any changes made.
Why do you repost? It is not the same problem. It is the first time to post.
When you are using a wrong hostname or ipaddress or a wrong port number. It is a perfect guess. May be a IP or hostname problem. I am configuring DataGuard on 2 PC. I installed a DB10g on PC A and want to configure a physical standby database on the PC B. Unfortunately, Both hostnames of PC A and PC B are same(both are "localhost.localdomain". Then I change a new hostname for the PC A(the primary database is on it), and the listener cannot connect to the EM console.
Why didn't you rediscover the listener. How to rediscover it.
Or do you think you will ever get valid respoinses when you keep posting a lot of non-informative junk boiling down to 'Help it doesn't work, and I can't be bothered to investigate the problem, and you need to torture me to get information out of me'?sorry.
Is it possible to correct the problem?
    Thank you

  • Ge31591 skype phone is dead problem

I just recently purchased this phone and only used it for a day or two. We went on vacation and as a safety precaution i unplugged all electronics in my house. The cradle charger of my new ge31591 was unplugged too. The handset doesn't have a off switch so i just let it sit in the cradle. It must have run out of power eventually. Now we are back in town and i plugged the charger back in. Now the problem: the handset doesn't turn back on. Since it doesn't have power button i just keep charging it but it just doesn't come alive. What can i do? I already checked if the battery pack is plugged in properly.

Hi, I have the same problem. I've tried two new sets of rechargeable batteries but they will not take the charge although the charge light is on. When I put non-chargeable batteries in the phone works but can't get the pin number when I press the base unit call button. If you get a solution please let me know.

  • Ps CC plug-in: Nik/Google HDR Efex Pro 2 - Deadly Problem

I know this is the Photoshop forum, but Google has no user forum for the Nik Software Photoshop-plug-in products Google recently acquired.
Nik's HDR Efex Pro 2 is a great piece of software, but as of today, it crashes on load, then brings Photoshop CC (v. 14.1.1 x64 on Mac OS X 10.8.4) to its knees as well.  :-(
I visited the Nik support page, and did everything it suggested, including disabling any GPU processing, via altering the HDR Efex Pro 2 .cgf file. - No joy.
I am basically stuck with a GREAT little $100 piece of software that no longer works. Any ideas?
    Thanks

    SOLVED.
I sent a support email to Nik Software/Google, and they sent me a link to the new "Nik Collection" which I downloaded and am now using for FREE (no additional charge over what I paid Nik a few months ago) -- this includes the Photoshop plugin, HDR Efex Pro 2, that stopped working. All works perfectly now. Thanks, Google.

  • Mysterious Macbook 1,1 -- working, then dead...then working again...???

I've got an extremely weird case on my hands. This is version 1,1 of the white Macbook (2006, I believe).
    Backstory/experiences so far:
I've been using Macs since 1990, and this is the first one I bought used. Might have been a mistake.
Everything was fine for a few months, until one day the computer was nonresponsive. No chime, no lights, nothing. The charge light on the magnetic power cable would light up and change from orange/green on a full charge, but that was it. Other than that, the computer behaved as if the battery had simply been removed.
Every time I walked by the laptop after that, I'd try the power button, just to see if it would turn on. A day or two later, it did. The little Macbook ran like nothing had ever been wrong.
A week later, something similar happened. This time, I heard the disk spin up, saw the power light come on, but never got to a chime. Later, an Apple Genius-bar-person would tell me that this means the initial system check failed. After turning it on, it acted like I had put it into hibernate. The only way to turn it off was to force-shutdown or let the battery die.
I sent it in to AppleCare, and they responded by telling me there was significant liquid damage which voided my warranty, and that I needed a new motherboard. Dead computer.
That was a year ago. I simply switched to using my desktop Mac, until...
A few weeks ago, I saw an ad for someone who fixes liquid spill apple laptops. He told me that often, the small power nodes (/chips?) on the motherboard short out, even though the board itself is fine. He replaced these, I paid him happily, and two days ago I had my little Macbook back.
I was able to use it like nothing had ever happened. About a week later, after a few hours of use in the morning, I powered the Macbook down and left the house. Three hours later, I tried to power it up again. Nothing. Totally unresponsive; back to paperweight mode. The battery lights on the battery case were active when it was plugged into AC, I should note.
I went back to my tried-and-true method of pressing the power button every time I walked by the Macbook. Six hours later, it worked again, suddenly powering up as if nothing had happened.
That was two weeks ago. Since then, it's often gone into paperweight mode, but it always comes back between 15 and 45 minutes later. Most recently, it's been turning on about 10 minutes after I hit the power key. It's hilarious...I try to turn it on, fail, yell and swear, and leave the room. 15 minutes later I hear a chime, and see that the little Macbook is booting up without help from any physical beings. I'm starting to believe in ghosts, guys...
I'm writing this on the Macbook in question, totally confused and completely afraid that it might never boot up again after I shut it down this time. Then again, it failed to start half an hour ago...but now, obviously, it's working fine.
Does anyone have an idea of just what the heck might be causing this? A loose wire inside? Evil spirits? Apple help in the store has been rather unhelpful (they didn't do much beyond chastising me for using an outside computer guy to replace the power chips...which worked great, by the way -- it eliminated the permanent-hibernation problem that killed the computer in 2007), and Apple on the phone have told me they deal mostly with software problems.
    A few more facts/Summary:
-I'm no computer expert, but the official Apple party line I've heard so far is that "it's corrosion/tertiary effects from a liquid spill." That doesn't sound likely to me. If it's a corroded wire or component, why has the Powerbook NEVER died while it was being used? It won't start when it doesn't feel like it, sure, but it's never died while I was using it.
-There seem to have been 2 problems, the first of which is fixed now...
    1. no startup chime followed by permanent hibernation. Replacing the power(chips? Nodes?) on the motherboard seemed to fix this "fail to finish booting" problem. This is NOT a problem anymore.
    2. The "play dead" problem, where hitting the i/o key won't do anything for a while, and then suddenly works. Sometimes the Macbook boots when I'm pushing the button, sometimes it ghost-boots while I'm in the other room. I have no idea what fixes the "play dead" problem, it just seems to go away after a few hours.
-The computer has never died while it was running. It's always after a perfectly normal (seeming) shutdown that it simply refuses to start back up again.
-I Don't fully trust the battery. The battery pretends to be full, but according to the little orange light on the AC power cable, is ALWAYS charging (even when the green LEDs on the bottom of the battery indicate "full"). The computer has not been able to boot on battery power alone (i.e. with the AC cable unplugged) in at least a week. I have it plugged in any time I boot successfully.
-The Apple-store guy (who seemed to know what he was talking about, but also seemed to hate me) checked the serial number on the Macbook, and confirmed that it's pretty much been a defective unit from the start. Since 2006, EVERY YEAR has seen a new logic board. That's 4 logic boards this computer has gone through, not to mention a new optical drive the first year, and several other major repairs. I had no idea that was the state of affairs when I bought it...frankly I'm amazed that Apple kept fixing this unit instead of confiscating it to figure out what is really causing all of these component failures.
I know this is a lot of information, but I'm trying to present the facts as I know them...I just have no idea which facts will be important, so you get all of them. Any help would be appreciated. I've tried googling around, but I'm not even sure what to search for. On an even sadder note, I spent 2 hours looking at non-Apple PCs last week (all I can afford if this one dies), and I really don't want to have to go down that road. Not after 20 years of faithful Apple/Macintosh usage.
Thanks in advance, and my apologies for the long post.

Important plot point here. I missed it on my first read through...

That computer is dead. You were ripped off. No other explanation for it.

It is a moot point. Once it gets wet, all bets are off and no reputable repair person will touch it.

I'm sure he doesn't hate you. He just hates seeing unhappy customers that he can't help.

Well, you also know that the previous owner poured liquid in it. What else did they do to it before that wasn't so noticeable?
Just buy a new Mac. Get an official refurbished one even. That will still be better than the piece of junk you were sold before.

  • HP Pavilion G4 1003-TX Graphic Card Problem

Hello... I have HP pavilion G4 1003TX laptop which cureently having graphic card problem. Technician at my place said that's caused by the solder connection on my Radeon graphic card.  He said it can be repaired, but the same problem will happen again soon unless i replaced my graphic card with new one.
In my laptop, i have Radeon and Intel graphic card which i can switch freely. My question is, if i change from my Radeon to my Intel graphic card, is my graphic card problem solved? Is my laptop still will not last long unless i buy new graphic card?
Please help me if you know the answer. Thanks
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

So my laptop will not start after i turned it on. The technician said it because some solder connection on the graphic card so it need to be resoldered. He warn me that the same problem will happen again soon since it's sign that my VGA card will dead. After he resoldered, my laptop can work normally for 3 months. Now, after 3 months, my laptop  can't start again just like before. The technician said it because of solder connection of my VGA card again.
So, since my laptop has Intel and Radeon VGA card that i can switch, is switching my VGA card form Radeon to Intel will solve my Radeon VGA card dead problem? Will my laptop can work normally if i switch my VGA card to Intel?

  • FCP Export Issue - Clip is skipping

Hey all, small, but deadly problem:
I have a 3 minute short I'm attempting to export from FCP. The original is in 24P (from a canon xh-a1) and I'm using Quicktime Conversion to export it. The problem is that the beginning of the clip (after the short title) is skipping a few times, much like an old record player that repeats a few notes over.
It only does it for the first 20 seconds or so, out of the 3 minutes, so I'm not sure what's going on. It plays perfectly in the time line, but 3 different exports (two .movs and a mpeg4 at different sizes) all produced the same error in the same spots. I tried moving the clip around up a track on the time line, which had the effect of changing when and how often it skipped, but again only in the same general time frame. I'm at a complete loss as to why it would have a problem in the first place, let alone this section.
    Any thoughts?
(Btw, I'm using FCP 5.1.2 and I would use Compressor, but I'm experiencing that "cannot connect to source" error AGAIN, so I'm just going to wait a little bit to get that sorted)

First, I'd fix compressor. Search is your friend:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=1163396#1163396
Then, export a quicktime movie (not using quicktime conversion), leave it as Current Settings..., then load that movie into compressor and apply your compression preset of choice.

  • IMac G5 education without optical drive, what can I do?

I've just bought on ebay an iMac G5 1,6 Ghz (without isight) with the motherboard dead. It is very easy to open.
What was my surprise to see that there was no optical drive...In fact, it could receive one : the slot is there, the IDE cable too, the sloat-loading hole too, but...it is impossible to introduce any CD or DVD because there is a plastic and metallic band all around that makes it impossible....
As I didn't understand, I made a research on the web anf found out the answer....Incerdible! I didn't know that Apple had made an iMac G5 model for education, without optical drive : from outside, impossible to distinguish it, but when you try to introduce a CD or DVD in the slot, you can't!
So the only solution is to buy an external firewire drive?
I tried to see if it was possible to put out the metallic band to free the access for one CD, but it seems impossible! The metallic piece is riveted, or something like that....
    Does anyone has tried something?
Thanks, I apologize if my english is not very good

I've just bought on ebay an iMac G5 1,6 Ghz (without isight) with the motherboard dead.
I assume you managed to fix that "motherboard dead" problem, since there would be no point in installing an optical drive in a Mac that does not work.
If you can't get the slot open because it is intentionally closed, maybe you can get an external optical drive and stick something else into that internal space. For example, will it fit a 2.5-inch (laptop size) IDE hard drive for additional internal storage? Or you can get an IDE-to-compact-flash adapter card and give your iMac a solid state flash drive (like MacBook Air); CF cards are getting pretty cheap, even at the 16GB size, and you can get even larger ones for a higher price. Maybe you can even boot from it.
    Just some ideas...

  • Can i communicate by the USB port, if my application is set up to communicate with the serial RS232 port???

Hi to all labview users... Please help me with my deadly problem. Last Deadline is on monday next week!.
I got a complete program now, written and tested OK. It communicates with a slave to control a motor. I've set up the program to communicate with the slave by the VISA RS232 Serial Port commuication.  and all works fine...
Now the problem is.. that The communication should have been by the USB port instead. So what I have done now, is that i used a USB to RS232 converter.  So that the USB Plug is plugged to the PC, and the RS232 end to my SLAVE,
When I send a command to my SLAVE,  the SLAVE seems to understand it and it executes the command. But I must read some data at the port after sending my command to the SLAVE, coz, this command ask the SLAVE to start streaming data to me.
All communication to me from the Slave  crashes so that i get ( sometimes if I get data ) wrong unknown data i cant understand.
So the big question is: Can i use USB communication although my Application is set up with serial communication if I use a USB to RS232 converter???  ( the Driver for the USB - SERIAL conv. is installed well.)
    Baudrate :115200.. parity : none,  Data bits: 8, stop bit : 1.

    Hi ZamZam,
Thanks for your detalied description of the problem. However I think the problem is how your USB-RS232 converter is converting the incoming serial command to the USB port. All Labview can see is a "normal" serial port. Do you have some information on the converter? You might also want to contact them to see if they are aware of this issue.

  • HT2674 error code 0000

My machine started freezing and loading very slowly.  I replaced the hard drive.  Then it started this brief freeze and coding as if rebooting would begin, but then it would freeze.  If I turned the laptop off then back on it would reboot and run for about an hour, then repeat the process.  Thought the new drive was a dud and replaced it with a different brand.  Instantly the process started again (didn't even get Snow Leopard updated enough for Lion this time).  Thinking my baby is having a mother board issue instead of hard drive.  Is this the correct thought or do I have a simplier, less deadly problem?

    gryphon410, welcome to the forum,
what you are experiencing doesn't sound good
Is your hard drive visible in BIOS? Press F1 at start and navigate to Startup > Boot to see if the hard drive is listed. BIOS simulator can be found here.
You should certainly try reseating the drive, it may have vibrated loose during transport, might help. Otherwise putting the drive in an external caddy attached to another system may help you get your files. Depending on the condition of the drive it is sometimes easier to get the files using a Linux cd, (e.g. Knoppix), rather than using windows. Instructions on how to remove / replace your hard drive can be found here.
You may also, after getting your files off, like to try Hitachi Drive Fitness Test to check the integrity of the drive. Even if you don't have an Hitachi drive it will tell youwhether or not it is good or bad.
Hope this helps, and I wish you luck

  • To send or not to send? Whine...

    Looking for some advice...
Firstly how do I know what week my mac is? I think it's quite early as I got it the 2nd week they came into the MAC shop....
I'm awaiting my new battery ( old one is warped and dead) - problems with UPS/apple so should finally get it today! ( 7 days later)
    Now this whine....
I do have a quiet high pitched noise which does stop when I load photo booth, however it doesn't really bother me ( not sure I would have noticed it if I wasn't looking for it)
My MBP has always been stupidly hot ( esp left hand corner) now should i send it in to get it sorted or not? Is it likely to affect the heat.. or also if the motherboard is defective are other things likely to go wrong if I don't get it changed?
Am a bit of a novice with MACs as this is my first one... will I lose any info if I send it in?
Also is it bad to use your MBP without the battery in situ? I've resorted to this after waiting for my new battery ( old one now very swollen and warped and smells a little electrical... worried me)
    Thanks in advance!
    Em

You can tell your week # by the serial number: W8608xxxx The "08" is the week number (week 8)
I had the whine also. It wasn't loud but every once in a while it would get on my nerves. It would also get hot. I didn't like the idea of sending it in because I didn't want the hassle and also didn't want to lose it while it's in repair. I did send it in though and got it back in a few days. I'm not sure about UK repair time. They replaced my MLB and the whine is totally gone and it also runs supprisingley cooler. It was worth it to send it in. You will be happier with it.
Just backup your data befor you send it in just in case. I didn't lose anything when I sent it in but you never know.
I usually don't get an extended warranty for anything myself but, I did get Applecare for this laptop. Laptops get bounced around a lot.

  • Satellite 5100 - Question about dead pixels. Is it really dead pixel problem?

    Hi,
I've got Satellite 5100-603. There have been some dead pixels on display. I don't know is it really dead pixel problem or not because the black area seems to be behind the screen. When i move left and right sides, the black area moves left and right sides too (as if the black area is behind the screen pixels)! And i can tell that all pixels are working OK when i look from the right and left sides of the display (because the pixels that seems to be dead, changes at different looking angles).
Are there really dead pixels or is it some other problem?
Is there anything that i can do about it?
For info, i am using my laptop for 2,5 years and there is no warranty of course...
    Thanks for any help..

    Hi
to answer your question I will try to make a simple description the layout of the TFT display.
I'll go from the front to the back.
In the front is a tough plexi-glass like layer to protect the screen from harm and the user from glass in case the TFT should break. It is also prepared in a way that will soften the reflections from behind (that does not go for the newer SuperBright screens).
Behind that is the 2 layers (at least 1 of glass, probably both) that hold the actual matrix of the pixels.
Behind theese 2 are a very complex set of layers that take care of the backlight. It consists of various numbers of films that should spread the light from the singel FL-tube evenly across the complete screen. Not a easy task if you ask me!
Sometimes, physical stress or dirt can make 'blotches' appear on the screen and they are in fact either dirt on the backmost layer or marks on the same. If there is dirt or marks on it, that will 'shadow' the light that comes out from it and show dark spots on the screen. They are quite different from defective pixels.
The defective pixels do not change with the angle of view for example.
I think you cannot do anything about this except changing screen. The construction is very complex and sensetive.

  • Pls help. MacBook Pro is dead. What could be the problem?

My macbook pro just suddenly won't turn on, won't charge and will not let me do anything on it. I bought it Sept 2010 and I never had any problems since.
When i plug the charger there is an orange light blinking, you wont even notice it so much. The battery life indicator on the side is not working too.
Here are the things I tried with another macbook pro:
Changed charger (my charger is working)
Changed the battery (my battery is fine) and put it back.
I saw online instructions but it seems my Mac still is totally DEAD:
    1. Holding down power button for 10secs
    2. Reset SMC http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
    3. And Safe Boot and Fsck etc.. http://www.macworld.com/article/2018853/when-good-macs-go-bad-steps-to-take-when -your-mac-wont-start-up.html
I'm hesitating to try the dvd cause it might just get stuck inside since my Mac doesnt really respond to any.
And I could just go to the Apple Store and save time and effort but it's not that easy where I live in and I would like to have my Mac's life back asap.
    Any help is appreciated!

    Zap the PRAM.
