Display adjustment/Calibration

I am using my 32 inch HD TV as the monitor for my Mac mini. I am not sure if I am adjusting the colours correctly. Are their gadgets available to calibrate my display.
Or
Is it a must that I should have a proper computer monitor before adjusting my pictures with Aperture.

Hi
I could really need some help here.
Is there any third party software I can install on my Win XP PRO that makes it possible to:
1.
Either view the current setting (backlight value) when pushing the Plus or Minus buttons on right side of the monitor.
2.
Or view the current setting (backlight value) by starting a separate program manually that display that value.

  • Additional fields to be displayed in calibration order

    Hi Experts,
Following fields are required to be displayed for Calibration Order ---
    1) Completion Date (mandatory) - Somewhere in header
    2) Person Responsible (Mandatory) -Somewhere in header
    3) Department (Mandatory) - Somewhere in header
    4) Frequency - Somewhere in header
    5) Due Date - Somewhere in header
Is there any setting in img where i can make these fields also visible and set them as mandatory.
    Looking for a quick response.
    Thanks in advance
    regards,
    Abhi

    Thanks Bala,
But i don't want to do any unnecessary customization.
So the 2nd option seems to be better...
Completion date i can see under the Planning Tab but its not mandatory. My ques is 1) is it the same field am looking for? 2)  If yes then how to make it mandatory?
For Person Responsible i can see a field at the Order - header but again it is not mandatory. How to make it mandatory? or else as suggested by you if i go for PDP how to use it? and do i need to have Hr integrated to see the values under Person Responsible?
Same applies for Department -- how to use the parner function. and there is no separate field to display it. so whre will it be displayed. Do i need to customize it?
Frequency - No doubt i cn see it in the report, but is there any way  i can display it at the header? I guess the only way is the customization?
    Thanks

  • Display Adjustment Utility or Gray Bar test pattern, where is it?

I am trying to adjust the focus and screen voltage on an older CRT iMac. The Service manual references a "Display Adjustment Utility" in OS 9. I am not an OS9 person so I don't know how to find it. I tried help in OS9 but could not find it. What I'm looking for is a gray bar test pattern to adjust the screen voltage (make the display lighter).
    Thanks,

Just an update... I found the utility at the following site:

  • GT72 - Dragon Gaming Centre "Instant Play" & Display Colour Calibration issue

    Hi guys,
Very much enjoying my GT72, but I've noticed a strange error that I can't seem to find the solution to either on this forum or elsewhere.
Basically the computer boots up to an incorrect colour calibration setting (really blue) which I have tried to set properly with the default windows "Calibrate Display Colour" tool. It seems to stick after doing that, but rebooting reverts it to the previous default.
I've also noticed that when pressing Fn+F4 for the Instant Play, it seems to change color display settings; if it was on the default really blue setting it'd change to my calibration, and vice versa.
I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to prevent Instant Play changing calibration settings and having my calibration stick between reboots?
    Thanks in advance!

yeah.... with so much different angle and good quality, they are truly good photo shooting pieces!

  • Display preferences/calibration

20 inch i mac (alum). Went to display preferences and went to calibrate a profile(expert mode). I could not get the sliders to hide the apple at all. Seemed the sliders were all out of sync, one slider was off the page and moving it back to hide the apple did not help? It says move sliders so the apple blends (not seen) in background. Well it would not work or do it( could not blend the apple? why is that? Now it seems they are all off. Except the imac one which is good and left as is. Seems RGB is off etc. Is there a way to get those back?

    Thanks for your reply!
I found and tried SuperCal and got a very nice result, with one problem: SuperCal does not allow a wide enough range of color temperature adjustment. The least blue result I could get was still too blue.
After extensive experimentation I got somewhat better results with the Apple tool, by carefully choosing values and then setting the color temperature to about 6200 K instead of D65. Whites and dark colors are now fine. The midrange is still too blue, but much less so. At this point I can live with it.
It still seems bizarre to me that the default values are out of the range of the Apple tool, though. This is only one of a few signs I've found that these machines were rushed out the door...

  • Apple Studio Display 21inch - calibration fails

G'day all, I've reviewed the topics on this display and none seem to fit my problem. Further, I'm convinced that it's not a display problem but an OS Tiger 10.4.11 problem but I reckon that this is the forum that will be best suited to answer.
In essence, the problem is that a get an overly white screen with very bold colours - as if the contrast and brightness is on steroids and I cannot get past the first page of the ColorSync Assistant. This condition occurred as a result of allowing a service technician to use my Mac to set up a satellite modem - you'd hope that technicians would be more responsible . . . . .
Anyhow, as I said, I'm convinced that the problem has more to do with OS 10.4.11 than the display as this works perfectly with another user. Specifically, the technician was logged in as PowerMacUser (isn't that original?) and that is the user which gets a problem display. If I log in as another user (i.e. PowerCenterUser - yes! there's one of these on the network) then the screen is normal and I can calibrate the display. So ColorSynch and the Studio Display are working.
But when I log in again as PowerMacUser nothing has changed. I did make sure that the color profiles in the Computer/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Display were the same as those used for PowerCenterUser even though they are global, but that didn't make any difference. And I have tried to find out where user-specific data is used to modify display profiles but without success.
I have a suspicion that it may have something to do with a file named <boot> but I won't pursue this unless I have a prod to so do.

This is an update. I'm a bit impatient so I got up at 02:30 and did some more research.
I found that the file boot.efi was still in my trash (OldUsers . .System>Library>CoreServicesboot.efi) and followed BDAqua's excellent advice in regard to this (see http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11661635&#11661635).
Thus I verified both discs in the PowerMac,did a Safe boot - which failed to correct the colour problem. I then reinstalled Mac OS 10.4 - which failed to correct the colour problem and I'm now in the process of bringing this up to OS 10.4.11.
The only approach that I can think of now is to create a new user since users other than PowerMacUser (see previous post) do not experience the colour problem.
Any, more creative, ideas would be welcome.

  • PLEASE HELP!!!  iMac display adjusting???

Hi....i have what is probably a silly question. I have a new 21.5in. iMac. i just had it in for some work(new ram) and of course all my settings are defaulted back to factory settings. My question is....how do i get my applications(safari,iTunes, etc) to display in full screen??? i know it can be done because that is how i had it before it crashed. But i'll be damned if i can figure out how to change it back to how i like it.
    Your help would be appreciated!
    thanks

They're not doing anything. Another guy here on the boards has all but been in contact with the iMac engineering group and was basically told that it was "within specification." In engineering speak that means roughly, "you are S-O-L." They're not fixing it until at least the next revision.

  • Pismo Power cuts away when display adjusted

Hi all, I dig these forums, and am here because I'm stuck. I have a PB Pismo, and it works great...except when I physically move the display, open or closing it, or moving it forward or back...then the power goes dead. Very annoying. I can't figure this out...why would the computer lose its power simply when moving the display? I'm pretty good at tinkering but this baffles me. Please help. David
    G3 Pismo   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I forgot to add...there is a crack behind the display on the right handside. I've checked the connections from the display into the computer itself, and all the connections are solid. If I just touch the display, and move it two inches forward or two inches back, the power goes out. Other than that the PB works fine. So could this mean that it's the monitor itself? Any suggestions?

  • Display Color Calibration?

I didn't post this in the displays or macbook pro forums, because it seems more like a software driven thing (i'm on a macbook pro). Altough it has to do with the photoshop connection to the output and viewing in preview & firefox.
In my photoshop settings i have selected color-lcd color settings. But when i open it in preview or firefox it appears desaturated. I tried different settings but couldn't find the perfect solution.
What's the best solution to sync this properly within os-x and photoshop (and/ or other tools), which color settings to choose from all the list so it appears correct everywhere?
    thanks

are you sure those are profiles you created?
anyway, the location of a profile can be found by going into system prefs -> display -> color and keeping the mouse over a profile. after a few seconds the path to the profile is displayed. but if the application doesn't let you delete it, you might not wanna screw with that, I don't know
edit: I just saw that personally created profiles reside in ~/Library/ while all other profiles are in some system folder (/System or /Library). If your profiles are really in your personal folder (so ~/Library) then I guess(!) you can delete them

  • Adjusting/ calibrating brightness level on Macbook Pro

This might seem to be a dumb question, but is there a way to calibrate or reference the brightness level on a Macbook Pro screen. I've always guessed it in the past, by moving the slider up and down until it sort of, "Looks right", but is there a more accurate way of doing this?
I have always edited on my Macbooks and I use the videoscopes.

There are calibration devices and software but they are intended for print, graphics and photos.
If color fidelity is an issue, you should be using a calibrated external video monitor and an MXO to interface to it. The computer's monitor cannot be used as a true representation of what your finished product will look like. FCP also drops the resolution of your media to reserve resources for realtime playback.

  • Apple display calibration tool messes everything up?

So I recently had my display clamshell replaced on my mbpr 15" for the bright mura spots that I had. I noticed when I got it back that I must've gotten a samsung display because everything was just a tinge too yellow. I prefer it to the cool bluish whites of the LG display I had before though. I wanted to try the screen calibration tool to try and calibrate the white balance though. When you do this, you also have to calibrate the gamma though. For some reason, the tool ALWAYS messes up the gamma correction, I'm not sure how. The native gamma of the display is 2.2, exactly what it should be. For some reason, when I go through and do all of those apple logo tests where you're supposed to make the logo disappear into the background, it winds up calculating that the native gamma of the display is somewhere around 1.5 to 1.7, which is utterly wrong. I would say no big deal, because I can just tick the checkbox that says "use native gamma of display" and presumably it'd leave the gamma alone, right? So I check the box, and on a graphic I have (zoomed to 100% or actual size) the colors even out at 2.2, which means the display is calibrated to gamma 2.2. So I proceed to adjust the white balance to what I want, just a titch cooler than the native white balance. Then I click continue, and on the very last screen of the calibration tool, it changes the gamma to 2.6. EVERY TIME. Without fail, even if I slide the gamma slider all the way to 1.0 when I reach the last screen it makes it 2.6. How? I have zero ideas. But it's driving me NUTS. All I want to do is adjust the white balance, I don't even want to touch the gamma, but for some reason I can't do that without raising my gamma to 2.6. Anybody? Please, this is going to make me insane.

Can anyone confirm this on their MacBook?

  • Please help.  Photoshop isn't displaying colors correctly after new monitor/calibration

When I open JPEGS or RAW images in photoshop they have a dull, flat color to them.  This is happening after recently buying a NEW PA271W wide-gamut display and calibrating it using Spectraview 2.  It doesn't matter whether I have the Working Space in PS set to Adobe RGB or sRGB under color settings... The only way I can make my image look normal is to go under settings and ASSIGN PROFILE to Adobe RGB.  It looks fine then.  I could live with that, except the bigger problem is that I begin my editing process in RAW, where the colors are also looking flat.  The best I can tell, there is no way to assign a profile at this stage... and I don't even know if that would help.
I've been working in photoshop many years and I do know that RAW images have a 'flatter' appearance to being with, but this is something completely different.  For example, when I slide photoshop onto my other monitor next to it (I have multiple monitors) - the color reverts to the normal color I want .  And if I then slide photoshop back onto my new NEC monitor, the normal color actually stays intact for about two seconds, then reverts back to the dull color.  So I am unable to begin my work process in RAW since the colors are wrong.  Also, I know that my new monitor is capbable of displaying my images in their proper colors because when I use any of several different image viewers I have - irfanview, etc. - everything is fine.  It's only in photoshop.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks, Chance.  Oh, and I have CS5 and I'm using Windows 7.

What you're describing sounds like your display profile is incorrect.
Don't mess with the working space, don't assign profiles -- just fix the display profile.

  • Calibrating MacBook Pro w/ i1 Pro. Which LED display technology is it?

Hi all, I'm trying to calibrate for photography my MacBook Pro 6,2 with a high-res matt screen using the i1 Display Pro calibrator.
The i1 software is asking me whether the technology used is CCFL (Cold-Cathode Fluorescent), Wide-Gamut CCFL, White LED or RGB LED.
From other threads, I'm pretty sure it's LED backlighting technology as the screen lights up immediately at start-up, unlike CCFL which apparently starts dimmer before brightening. So I've calibrated it twice entering once 'RGB LED' and once 'White LED' to see the difference. The 'RGB LED' calibration makes the greys look slightly cyan, and the 'White LED' makes the greys look pretty neutral, if not slightly red, but I'm still unsure which technology is used.
It would be very helpful is someone knew the answer and could help me out. Many thanks!!

Open a terminal window and enter the following:
    ioreg -lw0 | grep IODisplayEDID | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6
So on my 21.5 inch iMac I get this:
    Pandora:~ frank$ ioreg -lw0 | grep IODisplayEDID | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6
    LM215WF3-SLA1
    Color LCD

Google the model number and you'll get the manufacturers data sheet (as well as tons of other info).  For this iMac part of the spec sheet is:

  • Calibrating the Display System in Windows 7

I'm in the process of upgrading my Lightroom machine from Vista 64 Ultiplate to Windows 7 64 Ultimate.
In the course of researching with my Spider2Pro calibrator will work (ans: yes, and supported, in spite
of what their website says) I stumbled across this:
    http://www.pusztaiphoto.com/articles/colormgmt/win7/default.aspx
It's worth a scan if you do display system calibration on Windows 7.

    I don't know Win 7.
But in my Win XP Prof SP3 the profiles genereated by my Eye-One calibrator are saved in the following folder:
    C"\WINDOWS\System32\spool\DRIVERS\color
There must be a corresponding folder in Win7.

  • Color display issues in Fireworks

I have been having problems with how colors are displaying in Fireworks CS4.  Some colors appear to be extremely desaturated and was
hed out, yet when exported or viewed in another application, they appear vivid and vibrant.
Similarly, some jpeg files, when opened in Fireworks, appear overly saturated and vibrant as compared to the original.
This is a new issue which seemed to develop spontaneously in the past month or so (it used to work fine).  I have tried to find some
way of adjusting the color display or calibrating the program, but have come up empty handed.  This is becoming a big problem for m
e since I rely heavily on Fireworks for creating website layouts.  A color palate that looks perfect in Fireworks then looks garish
and terrible in the other adobe programs or in my safari browser.
The only changes I have made to my system are to install any mac or adobe updates that come through.
Can you suggest anything which might be causing this problem and how I might resolve it?
